Sunday Snippet
The stonework along the walls and supporting columns was mortared with fragments of earth that had formed at the dawn of the universe. This space had stood so much longer than the castle that was hastily constructed atop it centuries before. And it would stand long after the last remnants of the world above crumbled to ruin.
The focal point in the cavernous room was a massive and menacing gateway -- an arch made of stone, carved and inlaid with symbols even more ancient than Hades himself. It sat on a platform with three wide steps leading up to it, two iron braziers standing guard on either side. A monument of gothic perfection, it was a most fitting entrance to Hades’ domain: the Underworld.

“You really care about her, don’t you?”
Hades fiddled with the top of the bottle, swirling its contents. “More than I should.” He took a huge swig, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. His eyes turned cold, hard. “Go on then,” he sneered. “Tell me what a fool I am.”
“It’s not foolish to feel things.”
Hades begged to differ. At that moment, he’d have much preferred numbness to the pain that lanced through his chest.
When his heart had not beat, it had not been capable of being broken.

But, when a fiery, vibrant mortal wanders into his domain, he becomes so captivated by her that he realizes even the lord of the dead might find something worth living for.
Cora is tough but not cold. She is kind but also fiery. She is outspoken and independent but never cruel. When she meets Hades, she is mortal and has not yet achieved the power she is capable of wielding. She will one day become a goddess who is both giver of life and queen of death -- a beautiful contradiction.

Playlist - Tether Me (Galleaux)
BUCKLE UP, FRIENDS. WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT SEX (sort of).
Alright, full disclosure -- this song inspires me because the first time I heard it was during a *VERY* pivotal moment in the TV show Lucifer.

DANG.
Okay, back to my WIP. No shocker here -- this song is my forever inspo for when my characters **F I N A L L Y** hook up.
What I love about this song (besides the atmospheric/ethereal backdrop and pounding bass/drums) is the idea that in this big, sweeping moment, this person you trust is your anchor.
Pull me back out of my body,
I'm tied to my limbs,
They're spinning me out of control.
Tether me.
What is super important to me whenever I'm writing an intimate scene (and in my WIP there are...several) is trust and connection. Loss of control is scary and being intimate with someone often means you're at your most vulnerable to this loss. This song is about letting the other know you've got them, that you'll be their grounding.
I think this really fits my two main characters as they learn to accept this vulnerability and trust that the other is there to support them through it.
PLUS...the song is just sexy.

As if in demonstration, he dropped to the floor before her, head bowed in supplication. He wrapped his large hands around the backs of her thighs, breath warm, rough and ragged against her skin. When his gaze lifted back to hers, his eyes were half-hooded and darkened with desire.
"But I would gladly spend my eternity here."
