I love that they aren't following JTTW as well because it gives more creative freedom to those who want to write things and it gives more creative freedom to make aus/fandom tidbits.

Also by not specifically saying what is canon and what's not it gives a good air of mystery.

Something to tell fans.

LMK is not gonna follow JTTW to a script.

If it did then the show would be rated 18+ instead.

It’s a cartoon directed for kids and considering China’s very STRICT cartoon censorship which BANNED bloody, vulgar and violent cartoons from being aired, meaning you need to take creative liberties in order to sustain the cartoon you’re making.

Especially since LMK is being broadcasted in CHINA first. (Since it is a sort of adaptation/fanfiction of the original legend)

I’ve seen people get SO mad at Macaque’s inaccuracy and shit, but what about, Wukong, Sha Wujing, Zhu Bajie, Tang Sanzang, Ao Lie, Red Son, DBK, Princess Iron Fan and a bunch of different villains that aren’t completely accurate to the original?

Wukong was a murderer.

Sha Wujing ate Tripitaka’s last Nine Lives yet is still friendly with them.

Zhu Bajie was more than a flirt, he was straight up a pervert.

Tang Sanzang was a pathetic human whose only character development was him not falling off his horse every 3 seconds and a pathetic human who always got kidnapped that at this point the a fly could kidnap him.

Ao Lie was…not really a very impactful character since he doesn’t do much in the story?

Red Son was an adult when he met Wukong, not a child and he kidnapped Tripitaka so that he and DBK would eat him.

I don’t know if OSP is right, but apparently DBK and Iron Fan are divorced. And PIF was a more redeemable character.

DBK loves Red Son to the point he always remembered when his birthday was.

LBD wasn’t powerful as shit and she sure as hell didn’t have a henchman.

And The Camel Ridge Trio weren’t even sworn brothers with Wukong, the only one accurate was DBK. Macaque also wasn’t a sworn brother, that was a theory made by someone else years after the book was published.

And with the Camel Ridge Trio, Azure wasn’t the leader, it was Peng.

Obviously the show’s inaccurate to the original, what the hell did you expect with Macaque?!

This art was actually supposed to be an AU but I never got around to it *sobs*

I'll explain int now bc I don't think I'll be able to any other time since I've forgotten most of it haha. I'm also writing this to send to a dear friend haha.

So the scene went like this:

It was based off the original book of JTTW, however, the Macaque incident played out quite differently.

Wukong and Macaque knew each other since their conception, both residing on Mount Huaguo until Monkey King went on his first pilgrimage for immortality. Wukong left Macaque in charge of the monkeys and Macaque decided to use his power of deception to look after the citizens of the mountain as Wukong, tricking them into thinking he had never left and it was actually the Six Eared Macaque that had left the mountain.

However, the pilgrimage took longer than Macaque once anticipated as the nine year journey from Huaguo to the Cave of the Tilted Moon and Three Stars was not told to Macaque, only that the King had to go on a journey and he would be back later. After a while his powers started to fade and become less potent, meaning that his facade was starting to shatter and the monkeys were becoming suspicious until one day it fell entirely and the citizens of the mountain started to panic for their King as he had not come back yet.

This led to the monkeys being captured by the Monstrous King of Havoc and in return, made Macaque angry upon the King's return as he was blatently lied to. However, as they were old friends he promised refuge within the mountain and while Wukong dealt with the wars, the shit he inevitably started and finished and the thought of his own mortality, Macaque stayed back to tend to the monkeys and make sure the mountain was safe.

However, they both fought and fell apart when Wukong was trapped in the mountain. Macaque promised to try and get him out but for Wukong that wasn't enough and Macaque realises that Wukong wasn't a good friend after all. He left him to rot because he was sick of him, however, as the years passed he started to miss the joint rule they had over the mountain, as well as the poachers and demons attacking the monkey population he questions if it was a good idea to leave him there.

When Monkey King comes back to Mount Huaguo after his banishment he is relieved yet ashamed of leaving him, deciding to hide in the shadows and watch as the Monkey King blew off steam and protected the mountain once more - for once, he believed his best friend was back. However, that wasn't to last as Pigsy and the White Horse Dragon came to get him back.

This is when Macaque finds out about the Monk's pilgrimage and starts to make a plan to get him to stay on the mountain permanently, believing that it was the best option for the Monkey King, himself and his subjects.

And so he impersonates the Monkey King.

And knocks out a monk.

Then the fight begins where they take each other to the Monk, then Guanyin, then the Underworld and finally the Buddha themself. When Macaque's identity is revealed the fight breaks out and yet Monkey King doesn't kill him immediately, more questioning him why he did what he did.

"Why did you do that? You could have jeopardised my one chance at freedom!"

"I wanted you to come home! Is that so selfish?!"

"What...?"

As they fight Wukong goes to throw his staff at the other to subdue him, wanting to pin him to a tree yet not kill him - it is his best friend after all.

However, in a great move from Tripitaka (as always, how the fuck did this Monk survive the years before without the demons?) he mumbles the migraine spell to try and stop the fighting, throwing Wukong's sight off and instead of getting him in the shoulder or above, he hits Macaque straight through the eye, killing him instantly.

And that is the first and only time Wukong has sobbed over someone's death - the gang of JTTW had to beg him to leave the body so they could continue their time on the pilgrimage. He was there for two whole days and nights, hoping that his best friend would wake up.

He never did.

(Before everyone complains I know that this isn't very canon to JTTW but I believe that their fight carried all the way back to the Monk instead of just happening with the Buddha bc the Buddha is one with the universe and probably watched with popcorn.)

Anyways, that's the explanation. Have fun with that.

Spicynoodles Tangled AU - The Parents + Fic Link

I'm back with more of this! It's so good the snow cancelled college and I was able to finish these! Mihou/Macaque took the most time because I drew him from a different perspective than I normally do but I think it turned out nice.

All of these guys are over a thousand years old, so they've seen a lot of stuff.

LEM is Lotus Eared Macaques which is what Mihou/Macaque and MK are in case you forgot.

They aren't related, I'm working on MK's parents (or some little doodles of the kiddos) next. Or a Red Son redesign, I don't like the outfit I put him in much.

Pigsy and Tang run the Ugly Duckling as I said before and Sandy is the guy with unicorns only it's cats instead. I'm not drawing Sandy. I can't draw muscles like that.

Maybe I'll draw Ao Lie and Mei's parents, but probably further down the line since Ao Lie looks pretty much the same except when he needs to fight.

I'm gonna be slower on art because of college and needing to get a job to pay for that college soon. So this is probably the last big art update for a while.

But there's a fanfic now! That will be faster than art probably.

The line between DBK and Iron Fan about newborn Red came from this art by @py-dreamer, so thanks for that!

You don't understand how rabid I am for this AU

As someone who is a large fan of Rapunzel in any capacity, it's making me want to draw RS in the original Barbie Rapunzel dress (yes the big poofy purple one) but also this AU is just so cool and it has possessed me out of my art block.

Who knew a fire Rapunzel was all I needed to get me out of my slump 🙏

Spicynoodles Tangled AU

*very loosely Tangled based and also has some Barbie Rapunzel movie traits for dragon bestie purposes*

Red Son = Rapunzel

Lady Bone Demon = Mother Gothel

MK = Flynn Ryder

Mei = Pascal

In case you didn't see the note, Red does have both hands, I was just too lazy to draw the other one \ (ツ) /.

@py-dreamer for the idea of having Red Son in the Rapunzel role, it made the whole thing work a lot better.

MK and Red Son are both 18, MK is only a few months older, and Mei is 15.

I've had some fun ideas in the like month I spent working on these. It has gradually drifted further and further from the Tangled story, and then I looked up info on Flynn and turns out he's a lost prince from a destroyed kingdom so I unintentionally made MK more like him anyway.

MK isn't a lost prince tho, he's just got the from a group of people who had their kingdom destroyed. He's still MK under the Flynn like personality, so he's gonna be the one to offer to braid Red's hair.

I plan to make designs for some of the other characters, like Iron Fan and DBK obviously, but also Bai He, Pigsy, Tang and whoever I decide to have be Maximus and the guard captain(probably Ao Lie and Wukong/Macaque tbh). I said it gets less Tangled based as it goes on.

I plan on having Bai He in a similar role to Cassandra from the Tangled series, but without the jealousy because she realizes that LBD is a shitty parent who only cares about power and she's living her best life with her monkey dads.

I also kinda wanna have Ironbull and LBD have an epic fight while MK takes his new boyfriend to therapy.

Overall this is a very fun AU to draw for.
