Uh. Dude. Some witches DO worship Satan. Witchcraft is NOT a religion. You're terribly misinformed if you think it is. It is PART of the Wiccan religion, but is not a religion in and of itself. You can be a witch and follow any religion or none at all. The only prerequisite to calling yourself a witch is practicing witchcraft!
Sincerely, A non-wiccan witch who thinks Lucifer is the shit.
Witches still don’t worship Satan, not even in Delaware
My very first Tumblr blog for Terribly True concerns a meme I came across from Creepy Pasta. Let me start by saying this. I LOVE CREEPYPASTA. It’s fun. It’s just fun. There’s no reason to take anything you find on there seriously, but it’s not for that. That’s not what a pasta is. It’s just for fun.
So, why am I blast this meme apart? Well, for shits and giggles, but also because I was purely amazed by the sheer volumes of people sharing it who fervently believe it’s true. Here’s the meme in question:
Tumblr media
Let’s just look at this really closely for a minute and ask a few questions.
1)How do we know this is in Delaware? This could be anywhere.
2)How do we know when it was built? The architecture is all wrong for the supposed time it was built. It looks almost medieval.
3)Assuming it’s abandoned, why is everything in relatively good repair despite sitting empty for most of a century?
4)If the place is covered in Satanic symbols, why can’t we see a single one in the photo?
5)WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE STILL THINK WITCHES WORSHIP SATAN!?!?!
6)Do people go missing in the woods in Delaware?
Fact checking is hard as shit, and could take all day. That’s why I started this blog. I’m gonna do all that leg work for ya. So I went to Google and typed in “abandoned village in Delaware built by witches”. The first thing that pops up is Shadowlands Haunted Places Index - Delaware (which is pretty effing cool, BTW. Check it out here: http://www.theshadowlands.net/places/delaware.htm)
There are a couple little things about witches and witchcraft, but nothing much to speak of. Very generic stuff involving an creepy old house with an unsubstantiated witchcraft lynching and a spooky looking tree. I used Chrome’s find tool to look for the words “witch”, “village”, “disappear”, “town”, etc., etc. etc. Nothing. Ok, lets try an abandonned places site. Shadowlands is, after all, about hauntings, not abandoned villages or witches. Over to Ghosttowns.com.
Ghosttowns.com lists 7 abandoned towns in Delaware. Of those, 2 are former stops on a defunct railroad line, at least 1 isn’t actually abandoned, 1 got town down except for the cemetery and is now a trailer park, 1 got mostly washed away by a hurricane, and 2 are possibly the same place. None of them were built by witches in the woods.
So the place in the meme probably isn’t in Delaware. Where is it? Back to Google, again with my original (and totally ingenious) search, “abandoned village in Delaware built by witches”, this time I hit the “images” tab. The very first image is this.

Tada! My goodness, that looks familiar (and this story is reeking of bullshit). A name and a place. Pioneer Village, Salem 1630 in Salem, Massachusetts. They even have a website full of non-bullshit, non-grainy black and white photos. Like this family out for a stroll before their certain demise:

And these school children who are about to go missing:

In the above picture, we can even see from the power lines and modern houses in the background, that it’s not even out in the woods. It’s in a park in town.
So, not only is it not in Delaware, it’s not abandoned. This also explains entirely why the architecture is out of period. I looked through a lot of pictures of this place and I didn’t find a single Satanic symbol. In the interest of science, I have to be honest, I didn’t go there and search under floorboards or use blacklights at midnight while holding a shitty tape recorder and paying some wannabe “psychic” with cheap gin, but I do have a gut feeling that there aren’t any.
That brings me to my last bit, and honestly, the biggest one. This one’s the reason I actually gave a flying buffalo biscuit about this in the first place:
What the fuck do Satanic symbols have to do with witches anyway?!?!?! In this day and age why, why, why do people actually think that pagans worship Satan. Let me explain this to everyone:
Paganism, in allll its many forms, has been around a lot longer than Christianity, and has a completely different set of deities. They have functional pantheons of their own deities. They don’t believe in Satan. Satan is a Christian concept. So basically, accusing witches of worshiping Satan is like accusing Jews of worshiping Vishnu. It just makes no fucking sense. I won’t get into a blog about what pagans do or don’t believe or practice, or why people have been town to be afraid of them (which is also bullshit), but there’s the apex of it. Witches do not and never have worshiped Satan, ergo Satanic symbols are not indications of witches, but more likely of high school kids with spray paint. Witches do, however, weight the same as ducks, as evidenced here:

As for the disappearances, Delaware has a pretty low crime rate overall, aside from that one kind of rape-y city. I found nothing to indicate any place in Delaware where anyone goes missing regularly. Salem doesn’t have a significant number of missing persons either.
Salem does, however, have more completely fucking terrifying true tales to share than just about any other place in this country. There has been so much blood, murder, insanity, persecution, execution, and diabolic shenanigans in that place it makes my head spin. Please, go check out Salem. Put it on your bucket list, and please, take me with you (to Salem, not your grave. You go die on your own time).

Trump threatens to block Mexican immigrants from sending money to their families if Mexico doesn’t pay for the wall
In a two-page memo provided to the Washington Post, Donald Trump has finally elaborated on how he would make Mexico pay for the border wall even if the nation refuses. He’d present two options: “Make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion” or he’ll halt remittances sent back home by Mexican immigrants living in the U.S. (an estimated $24 billion). Is that even legal?

Quote
At 19, I read a sentence that re-terraformed my head: “The level of matter in the universe has been constant since the Big Bang.” In all the aeons we have lost nothing, we have gained nothing - not a speck, not a grain, not a breath. The universe is simply a sealed, twisting kaleidoscope that has reordered itself a trillion trillion trillion times over. Each baby, then, is a unique collision - a cocktail, a remix - of all that has come before: made from molecules of Napoleon and stardust and comets and whale tooth; colloidal mercury and Cleopatra’s breath: and with the same darkness that is between the stars between, and inside, our own atoms. When you know this, you suddenly see the crowded top deck of the bus, in the rain, as a miracle: this collection of people is by way of a starburst constellation. Families are bright, irregular-shaped nebulae. Finding a person you love is like galaxies colliding. We are all peculiar, unrepeatable, perambulating micro-universes - we have never been before and we will never be again. Oh God, the sheer exuberant, unlikely face of our existences. The honour of being alive. They will never be able to make you again. Don’t you dare waste a second of it thinking something better will happen when it ends. Don’t you dare.
