Fictober23 day 31: "It's not your fault."
(Original fiction. Continuation from the events of day 30)
Sarah had been talking to that grave for hours. It was a lot of life updates she wanted to talk about. Unlike most who talk to graves, she knows where the messages are sent. Her dad does hear what she says. Even if she can never see his spirit in the heavens.
"Ok, guess it's time to go. I have one last place to visit, but I'll update you later Dad."
I always hate this next part. Ironic...it’s just memories. Memories that taught me to hate in the first place.
"Let's go, Aki."
The redhead just followed her. Ready to give support on the next leg of the journey. First they visited the town. It's changed again. Now it's more like a rustic town on the fringes of England. She could smile at this visit.
A place that grew and evolved. Despite the horrors of the past.
She continued to walk until she found the hill where her house used to be located. For some reason, no one changed anything with it. A lot of the burnt wood has been stolen over the years. Plants have overgrown the area, but this was the place where she used to live those peaceful days.
Sarah just sits a box down in the middle of the foundation and walks away.
"Are you sure you're ok?" Aki just looks at her with those big puppy eyes.
Sarah sighs. "I'm fine. There are only really good memories of this place. I promise you that."
It was the next place that was harder. It was an abandoned complex. Some people believe it's left over from one of the old wars. Sarah knows better. It's where hunters took whatever wasn't human to them. The place where others like her went through hell.
Where she went through hell. The kind of hell that teaches a pure soul how to hate, how to hurt, and how to kill.
She just sinks into the snow to watch the building as the memories play in her head. Aki already has an arm wrapped around her. “There has got to be something wrong with me to keep wanting to come back here.”
“You're still the strongest person I know."
Sarah just looked at Aki almost terrified. "How is this strong? I come back here every time we visit this country to torture myself on what made me this. I wasn't capable to fight or be mad at anyone before this place. Hate is a poison but it was that hate that made me survive. It's how I lived to meet you."
I have changed again since then. If I lose what it's like to hate or be mad. Then I'm going to lose what keeps what I care about safe.
"Pain wasn't what made you. Love made you who you are." Aki just pressed her forehead to the Nephilim. "You love so much that it killed you inside when it was taken. You broke out your human side because you loved life so much you just didn't want to lose it."
Sarah just closed her eyes and took in her partner's presence. "You tell that to your angelic brethren next time they evaluate how much danger my existence put things in."
I was conceived out of love. That same love is why people die. Why I'm constantly told I should even be alive?
"It's not your fault. Not all of them up there think that. You should have been something to be celebrated. I know I do. Every day since I first met you." Aki just looks at her with those eyes. The eyes that only gave love and adoration.
Sarah just finally smiles. The memories of the past can't find her with this woman by her side. "Who am I to argue with you when you make that face."
Once again she shatters any doubt I’ve ever had. No wonder I fell in love with her.

Fictober23 Day 30: "Are you with me?"
(Original fiction)
Sarah just stood there at the entrance to the grove. She tries her best to visit this place as much as she can nowadays. There was always such a guilt about it when she was younger. Like it was her fault that her father was buried here.
That or that she should have died with him that day.
She knows the facts. Her mother went insane as punishment for creating an unauthorized half-breed. In that insanity, she attacked the town she was staying in with her dad. He was killed and she entered a real hell after that.
Memories like that always replay when she comes close to this location. It's been over one hundred years, but it's still the same place where her old sleepy little village used to be located. The grove with his grave was something she kept protected when she heard he was buried.
It's just a visit. No need to freak out. It's the past. I've overcome it.
Sarah could feel the hand of her partner resting on her shoulder. Aki was there when she first came to this grove, and she has been here on every visit since.
“Are you with me?”
Aki just looked into her eyes with admiration. It was just something how she could get lost in those eyes. "Always. I told you before, you don't have to do it alone anymore."
She has no idea how great it is to hear that. Especially in a place that brings back more of the bad memories than the good ones.
The grove was exactly as she left it. Her father's favorite violets grew all over. There in the center was his grave. Right next to it was a smaller broken tombstone. It's her grave. Back then, people thought she died with her father. It has just always been there now. A testament to how she agreed to keep living for as long as she can.
“Hey, daddy. I’m here to see you again.”

Fictober23 Day 29: "That's all? Easy."
(Fandom Invader Zim. Zes age 10-11)
Zes just calmly approached her friend for one simple thing she needed to do. This was a dangerous endeavor. One small step out of line, and she could get herself killed. She was asking Gaz for a favor. Sure she could count the thing she has to do as something possibly dangerous.
What's more dangerous than asking favors from a girl who practically made hell her go-to place to take a walk?
Here I thought the empire was dangerous. They never met Gaz.
“Hey, Gaz. Could you distract your brother from something if I asked?”
Gaz just looked up from her game. “That’s all. Easy. What’s in it for me?”
"Here I thought we were such good friends." Zes deadpans. However, it would probably be a good idea to tell her anyway what's happening.
She sighs. "An Irken voot..eh basically it's a ship. A ship from the Irken empire is en route to this planet."
It's probably nothing. Most likely it's some random patrol that got lost. We could just kill the pilot and go home. However, something about this makes me uneasy. Like...it's familiar.
Gaz finally looks up from her game. “Dib’s gonna find out eventually. Alien crap is his forte.”
"Gaz, that just makes it funnier that he hasn't figured out that I'm not human," Zes smirked a bit. Her human disguise passes her as human enough for most people. The so-called paranormal investigator was included.
Look, I would have said something but the idea of being viviceted by an 11-year-old human doesn't appeal to me.
Gaz just giggled. "Yeah, and he's gonna flip his shit if he ever does. Who cares at this point? Game night still on?"
"Yeah, that isn't a problem." This was how their friendship went. Hopefully, this whole thing with the empire just blows over.

Fictober23 Day 28: "I may not get another chance to say this."
(Original fiction)
Alyssa sighed as the actual police officer opened the door to her office. They split up for what they just looked at for the investigation. Her office wasn’t proven to be the safest place they could have gone to after all of that. Though that’s the only place they could go to.
It's been a reoccurring problem when it comes to jobs. Mostly everything that Sovereign sends to me.
Max kept trying to keep an ear out by the door, while Alyssa was checking the windows. No one was sleeping tonight. Not like it wasn't something the two of them weren't accustomed to. Despite what the legends say, becoming a vampire doesn't change sleeping habits.
“I may not get another chance to say this.”
Alyssa just glared at him before throwing an eraser at his head. "You are a fool. Pick your last words on your own time."
"I know that. There are just some things people need to say." He rubbed his head where he got hit, but still kept his voice down.
It's a cliche that I want no part of it.
She just continued to look at the windows. "If you believe the worst then you make it happen yourself. No one is dying tonight. Once the sun comes out we can head to sanctuary to wait out the rest of it."
"You're the one who got turned into a vampire. Isn't being in the sun a big deal?" Max just looked confused. He only recently got transferred to the supernatural division of the force. She couldn't exactly fault him on things she's still learning herself.
Alyssa sighed. “No, I am told I will be sensitive to the sun for this first year. So yes, we can still go with the plan without anyone burning.”
He was losing excuses that came to his head. "Can't you just let me say what I want to say?"
“No, if you want to say something to me then say it outside of the danger.” She is very adamant on this. It would be a different story if the man was bleeding out in front of her.
Max just pouted. "You're no fun with this."
Ah, so it’s to recreate something he’s seen in a movie. Still pointless, but somewhat understandable now.

Fictober23 day 27: "I don't know if they will accept this."
(Original fiction.)
“I don’t know if they will accept this.”
Alyssa just looked up from her papers to what Emmers was saying. Since she started working together with the young parasite, she's been showing up at her office more and more. Which, the detective didn't mind. She pays the girl for her work like a regular employee.
She's smart like her sister and doesn't run away. Even if I make it difficult. So why the change?
She sighs. "All I'm asking you is to contact your mother."
"Oh, I remember her as Emily. Very strict and traditional. A sick child wasn't in her schedule." Emmers just gave a smile that was a little off-putting.
Alex did say something along those lines. At least it was true. I won't deny what she remembers. Nor will I downplay what that woman did. However, the death of two children is something that changes things.
Alyssa’s eyes narrowed. “You once told me the one in charge of your collective memory is mostly Emily. Even before that, I would still tell you the same thing. It’s your choice if you wish to speak with her or not.”
"Oh, do you speak with her?" Emmers asked. This was the first conversation they both had without it being related to some part of work.
Do I say the woman cooked a mean sandwich to make things sound better?
Alyssa just sighed. “I was the one who told her of Alex’s death. I was also the one who told her to not shoot me when she tried to avenge her two daughters.”
"Oh, she really tried. Impressive. Still, that just proves a point. I am more of a parasite now. As much as the conversation would be thrilling, I would love to avoid getting shot." Emmers still said all of this with the biggest grin. Her parasitic tongue just went in the air for dramatic effect.
That is valid. Even after becoming a vampire, I do not recommend getting shot.
The detective just looks at her. "If you decide to talk to her as you are, as Emmers, then I will go with you. I would never suggest this without intending to do that. You do work at my office now after all."
She takes care of her partners. Plus she did promise Alex. This isn't quite the Emily her old partner was looking for, but she is what survived.

Fictober23 day 26: "Honstly why would I care?"
(Fandom: Invader Zim. Including the Gaz from @chaos-trio12 and her hybrid alt.)
“So you figured it out.”
Vaz just looks into the mirror with a glare. "No shit I figured it out. It doesn't take a genius to tell what you see when it comes to the hell mirror. Your part me after all. Dumbass."
She returned to the hell mirror to figure something out. That bad ending she saw that day kept bugging her ever since. The more she thought of it. The more she knew what she had to do. Even if the worst happened, Vaz knows she wouldn’t just ever leave her friends in hell.
I think I finally get what Zes was saying with her alt. We share a past...that's it. I guess this is our alt after all. Fuck, she looks like shit.
Ves just folded her arms from the other side of the mirror. With how they sometimes ended up in the chat, they just expected their lucky versions to figure out who they were. They just finally got lucky for once and it was the Gaz side that was first to contact them.
"Yeah well, you found us. Want a medal? You have a point somewhere?" Ves just looked on with their pink eyes. Even now Vaz can tell the sturring of two souls in there. It was a slight relief for her to see that for some reason.
Dam Zes, guess you really are way too stubborn to disappear.
Vaz just narrowed her eyes. “Come home. You know what I’m talking about.”
"Honestly, why would I care? That's your home. That's where you get a planet, a dad, and a brother. That's the thing, nothing just goes away by just going to the place where it didn't go wrong. You and Zes are the lucky ones. Go and live your lives and we'll just go and do what we can for this shit excuse of a body."
Vaz sighed. "You're just a ball of sunshine."
"Says the executive goth using a mirror in a literal hell." The hybrid looks on while it looks like the Pak on them glowed a bit.
Wow, she could have said fashionable executive goth. Man, someone's bitter in hell now. Harsh.

Fictober23 day 25: "Do I look like I knew that?"
(Fandom Invader Zim. Zes age 12..almost 13. Early days of the blog @explosions-and-chill )
Gaz and Zes just deadpanned as they say what the boys got into this time. It wasn't even a cryptid this time. For some reason, their two idiots just lead a bear to the campsite. Zes can see them huddling against each other screaming comically.
This is the same Irken who wrecked part of Irk on a miscommunication.
Gaz sighed. “You wanna get this or should I?”
Not like the boys would question how Zes could handle a bear. Even while still being Zes the human. She was still a friend of Gaz. That comes with some assumed perks.
“Alright, guess it is my turn.”
She aimed one of her special bombs right at the bear's mouth as it was roaring at the idiot duo. Despite what everyone thinks she always uses some form of math before throwing an explosive. All to time it so that each explosion goes off when she wants it to.
The boys stopped screaming when the bear’s head exploded.
Is it bad that there is a part of me that's extremely satisfied when that happens?
Dib just looked at her confused. “What the hell was that?”
"What you never saw a bear before? Oh, look, a future bear skin blanket." Zes just shrugs. Though she looked behind her when Dib just pointed in fear.
Sure enough, there was another bear. Zes didn't even flinch when this one roared at her. She was about to do something about it when Gaz just smacked it with her baseball bat. The bear ran off whimpering.
“How did you know your mojo worked on bears?” She knows Gaz can take care of herself. Her friend hangs out with demons after all.
Gaz just glared. "Do I look like I knew that? I guessed. I'm sicking off this camping shit."
Fair enough. Maybe I can post this on my blog.

Fictober23 day 24: "Is it over? Is it really over?"
(original fiction)
“It’s over? Is it really over?”
Sarah just sighed as Aki was sulking by the fridge. All she could do was pat her mate on the back. This happens every time, but she’ll still do the same routine to help her. A small comforting gesture. “Yeah, it’s ok.”
Aki just had tears as she gestured to the mouse trap. Sure enough, the trap she put down caught a mouse. That means once again she finds her girlfriend lamenting over a dead mouse.
“It was so small. How could you.” She just dramaticly states. Sarah knows she doesn’t mean it when she says all of this. Though at this point she’s just wondering if they should just get a pet snake to avoid the dramatics.
It’s kinda cute when she does this though.
Sarah just put her arm around Aki's shoulder. "Aki, love, the light of my existence. I told you about the trap yesterday remember? We agreed to it since the mice ate your snacks."
"Oh, that's right. I'm good now." She bounces back to all smiles. Sarah just chuckled fondly as she went to dispose of the dead mouse.
Just another day that was so ridiculous. Though the half-breed wouldn't trade it for anything.

Fictober23 day 23: "No, you won't understand, ever."
(Fandom invader zim. Ves things when she returned to earth.)
For once the group that was watching them didn’t have their weapons out. It was just a group of humans. It hadn’t been long since Ves had returned to Earth. It took a moment to get used to how much it changed.
It was harsh, but at least there wasn’t the usual trouble that seemed to spread in space.
She sighed. “Explain again what you’re trying to do?”
One of the groups stepped forward. Looked like a woman that V recognized from her father's lab. It made sense considering how everyone on this planet seemed to always look up to membrane labs to save the world.
I have a feeling I know where this is going, and I hate it.
"Gazoline, you are the heir to your father's legacy. Even with that technology on you, the people will understand." She was trying to be gentle.
It still didn’t change that they were asking a teenager to be a symbol for the world. The same world that called them a traitor for having a Pak attached to her.
Her eyes narrowed. "Let's ignore the fact you're still asking me to fix this shit show and I'm 14. What happened to the traitor to humanity?"
I kinda wish you were awake right now Zes. Though...with how this is. Rest more, I got this.
The woman flinched at Ves’s words. “We understand you might not have had a choice in that. I read your father’s report. With time, we could even figure out how to remove it.”
"No, you won't understand, ever." Ves finally pulled her hands out of her pockets. Part of the group gasped at how her fingers mutated a bit. Even without anyone's input, she knows. By now her body has become way too dependent on the Pak. The Pain was a good indicator that going back will never be an option.
The woman tried to reach out but pulled back. "Your right, I don't. Can you answer me then? Your father described that it was another mind within that device on your back. Are they giving you trouble?"
Ah, someone from Dad's lab who isn't a sheep. No wonder she's doing something important.
I can answer for myself...only if you're ok with it.
When did you wake up?
Just now..you were getting tense. I thought there was a fight for a second.
The Pak glowed as their posture changed with the switch. This was still very new to them. “I can speak for myself. Gaz..is my friend. We never asked for any of this to happen to us, but she doesn't want me to vanish. So I am here...I will protect her. Believe that is you don't believe anything else.”
Most everyone tensed at the fact it just seemed someone else was talking. The woman just calmed everyone down for a second before speaking again.
"I see now. You're both just kids. I suggest to get yourself to one of the bunkers. I can try to calm down at least the group we got if you need more help."
Ves just sighed. "No shit Sherlock. We were just leaving."

Fictober23 day 22: "Who takes care of you?"
(Fandom Invader zim. Zes age 10)
Even though the Resisty had fixed the little miscommunication they had when they picked Zes up, she was still being escorted back by gunpoint. At least Lard Nar seemed like he didn't approve of the arrangement. Some things would always be intense.
The child would not apologize for burning part of their cargo bay when she first tried to get out. Though that was expected.
The universe won't change regarding a certain species. What else is new?
Nar just tried to smile. "I feel like I should apologize more for all of this. I may lead them but..well it's hard to see things differently."
"I know that already. I wouldn't have lived this long if I didn't." She just shrugged while stating a fact. Vortains are justified a bit. She doesn't like her species either.
Nar just paused as they got to his ship. “I just have one question. Who takes care of you?”
Oh no, that is not my story to tell. Well, he is the first Vortain to ask. I’ll give him that.
"If it wasn't for Zim, I doubt you would be thinking about that right now. I know the armed guards aren't." She points to their escorts. Who are doing poorly at hiding the fact their guns were aimed at her.
Zes sighed. “I manage. It’s all anyone can do. Not like Irkens are allowed to be kids. Even if they want to.”
That did shame some of the guards as they got into the ship. At least that got them something to think about. Nar looked like he was about to pat her, but held back.
The Resisty was so disappointing. Never meet your heroes as they say. At least Nar seemed reasonable.
"I bet if I talked it over you could just live at HQ. I even heard of some colony of Irkens living on their own we can find."
Zes just deadpaned. “Just drive me back. Earth is a good enough hiding spot as is. At least it was. If those guys fucked it up I will have words.”

Fictober23 day 21: "Just in case this doesn't work."
(fandom invader zim. Zam belongs to @esthyradler )
Zam just sat there in Zim's base for one of his son's planning sessions. These have been happening a lot more since they found out it was the Miyuki they both knew at the school. Mostly it was the plans that wouldn't result in either of them getting killed.
They did settle on any plan he came up with.
“Just in case this doesn’t work.”
Zim just stared at his dad. “No, Zim refuses to turn weapons off when she goes in for the attack.”
It was worth a try. I still like my plan to get drinks and see how it goes.
“Well, there is the fact she hasn’t gone back to Irk yet. She could have when she survived your blob, but she didn’t.” Well, he knows the reason she didn’t go back to being tallest again was due to the fact she was trying to find him.
Trying to find him out of extreme anger. It is a meaningful gesture considering it’s Miyuki.
"Dad, she cannot be trusted." Zim didn't even realize what he just said.
Zam’s eyes just went wide. Completely forgetting the topic they were on. “Did...did you just call me dad?”
This is the greatest day of my life. Right next to all the other things Zim has done. You know what, if Miyuki kills me tomorrow then fine. I've lived great after hearing that.
"YOU DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING! IT'S NOTHING! FORGET EVERYTHING!" Zim just got flustered.
Zam just quickly pulled his son into a big hug. It's just one of those moments where being overwhelmed by emotion was a good thing.

Fictober23 day 20: "This better be good."
(Fandom Invader zim. Zes age 8)
Miyuki sighed as she saw the amount of power being drained at this new place they had since coming to Earth. This planet was safe enough that she wouldn't have to keep vigilant all the time. There were still problems with the girl.
She still had no idea how to do anything with Zes besides keeping everything available. Emotional things were still very hard for the former tallest.
It was so much easier when I was a smeetling with Zam. Still have zero idea why she reminds me of him. However, since she does make me think of that idiot...she probably with the same problems.
She just went down to the basement to find the child in front of many monitors. Zes seemed to but using what looked like a human joystick to control something.
“This better be good.”
It's a tone that she knows to normally have authority. Even though it never works with Zes. From what she could see it looks like a star map and she's controlling things on it.
Zes didn’t even look up. “It is, and before you ask it’s not anything dangerous.”
Miyuki's eyes narrowed. The screens look to have symbols of Irken voots. The one the girl is controlling is just dogging from anything that comes at it. Seems whoever is inside it was the one firing the weapons.
"And yet you hijacked something from the empire. You are being careless." Miyuki sighed but still didn't stop Zes from whatever she was doing.
If I stop her now it could backfire. It doesn’t make logical sense to throw away a hiding place now that we’ve found it.
Zes huffed. She was taking what she was doing seriously. "You're the one who told me that anything Zim-related is my problem. I'm dealing with it. Back off."
Miyuki stopped as that was making her somewhat guilty. Those words were something she said the first time Zes snuck off to an Irken area. Something about helping Zim. She doubted who she was looking for was even there, and said all of that.
A series of regretful words since to her it just seemed the smeet was just looking to run off to die.
"So...he's in the voot you're controlling."
If this is her purpose now that she is out of the empire then so be it. I’ll just make sure Zes survives it.
"Welcome to Operation Impending Doom 2. I'm not the one using the weapons..oh well." She sounded a bit off when describing all of this.
The Irken Zes described was more like an energetic Zam. “Very well. I’ll take care of the electric bill then.”
She was so close to reminding Zes what this could mean afterward. It's a harsh reality this universe has. Though she hopes Zim survives. If for nothing else, so that her little apprentice can keep herself going longer.
Perhaps they should find a new term to use so the humans won’t look hard at them living together.

Fictober23 day 19: "What if we're wrong?"
( Orginal fiction)
“What if we’re wrong?”
Alyssa's eyes narrowed at the actual police detective. The man has been doubting a lot since starting this case with her. Max was at least being civil at this point. Hard to believe that the man was once so adamant that she was the one of committed this murder.
She just finished her coffee before addressing him. "Then we look again and find a new answer."
No one is right all the time. Though it’s one of the reasons I’m good at what I do. You don’t stop until the answer is clear in front of you.
"I didn't expect that answer from you. You're always so confident in your answers...even if it can be harsh." Max was trying to move past how he was with her.
Alyssa just looked him in the eyes. "Because I make sure I leave nothing to doubt. Though the difference in how the police work, I don't dismiss anything. Even if it's harsh."
I don’t see the point of trying to be kind about my words when some answers don’t call for it.
"Probably would have saved a lot of trouble if you just joined the force." He was trying to joke to calm his nerves. Maybe with a hint of guilt. His anger at Alyssa made this entire case harder and even made her life harder.
A haste to report on his bias.
The private detective just sighed. “I work better where I am now. All responsibility is on me for anything I do in my office. I rather not run from that with a fancy badge.”
I also don’t see calling my foster father my boss.
"I'm sorry..still think you can be an ass sometimes." Max just sheepishly smiled. For the first time since this mess started, he apologized.
Alyssa just shrugged. "Accepted. Everyone to what they think of others. I do not intend to change how I am just to make things more comfortable. At least you admit you were wrong. Unlike others in the station."
It's a start. It's what they needed if they were going to keep working together. Not quite friends, but partners. At least now she could at least trust him to have her back when she needed it.
