If Ace had met Sabo when he was alive, I don't think it would've been as easy as it was with Luffy.
First, Ace is a very resentful person. Before Sabo even got to explain himself, Ace would have told him to go away and that they didn't need him.
He wouldn't have been open for a conversation just between him and Sabo. And even after explaining, he must have gotten even severe self worth issues.
I mean, his brother/best friend forgot about him in less than a second and just appeared when he made the biggest mess in the grand line.
Sabo has nightmares about Ace just leaving him, or just stop calling him brother anymore.

Ace and Luffy really were meant to be by each other, I mean Luffy constantly gives words of afformation and Ace need them all the time. I picture:
Ace: I'll go away for a few hours, stay here
Luffy: I wanna go with you, I wanna go on an adventure too
Ace: Why? I just need to be alone, you don't need me to go on an adventure by youself.
Luffy: An adventure is not an adventure if you're not there Ace, let's be alone together
Luffy may not even undertand what he is saying, but it brings Ace just the reasurance he so desperately needs.

And I think these would be Ace, Nami and Zoro.
When Ace spoke, he made sure to agree with him. A habit he picked as a kid.

I hope you've listened to "Tu falta de querer" by Mon bc it's important for this headcanon.
If Ace had found out about Sabo before Sabo remembered anything, I think he wouldn't say anything, or try to aproach.
Bc he has self worth issues and just being forgotten like that really got to him. Like in the song "How did you stop loving me?"
He remembered every detail about sabo, but he had forgotten absolutely everything about him.
But he would not be able to stop loving him.
"I still love you, and I think that even more than yesterday"
He would dream about meeting again, sharing that damned cup of sake and returning to the old times, but at the same time he wanted to beat him up, to scream in his face how could he do that to him.
"Come, and tell me the truth. Have mercy"

I think it took Ace quite some time to change his mentality from PROTECT LUFFY, NOTHING WILL EVEN TOUCH HIM, to: Let Luffy fight.
Bc when he lost Sabo I know that kid was blaming himself on not being able to protect him, and he would have wanted to protect Luffy all the same, but that was not a good thing.
Just when he realised he would leave Luffy alone was when he let him fight properly.

I think Ace does this thing where he flirts non stop with everyone and/or hooks up with them, but never actually engages in a relationship.
And he has a massive amount of ppl in love with him, but he refuses to believe they will wait for him or love him for who he is, so he just keeps with his flirt and hook up thing.
