Oslob, Cebu is known worldwide because of the whale shark watching activity that the place offers. Swimming with the whale shark was our family’s plan when we drove to this Southern part of the province. However, when we got there, we decided to drop the plan since we don’t think our 4-year-old daughter will enjoy it.

We aimlessly cruised through the winding roads until I decided to check online the best places to see in Oslob. Cancua-Ay Private Beach Resort is included among the top recommendations so we set went there instead.

We were so excited. Right after we parked our car, we hurried down the 200 something steps that lead down the cliff, so eager to see what’s on the end. It ended on the beach where nipa cottages were located.

Ghaad, we’re disappointed! The place was overrated. We were faced with a classic situation of expectation versus reality. The place was way way way way way way different from the photos we saw online. It’s not at all pretty, or maybe pretty is subjective, eh? So maybe we let you see the photos we took then and decide for yourself.

But anyhoo, just to set your expectations properly and not get surprised and disappointed like us, we think it is very important to let you know that:

The beauty of the place shows only during high tide, and that only happens in the morning. After lunch, expect bare rocky, uneven shores. Our bad, we visited it when the tide was low. So take note, if you want to get the perfect, Instagram-worth photos like those you see online, leave Cebu City the earliest possible time.

There’s nothing much to do in the area. The rocky shore was full of sharps rocks making it difficult to enjoy a stroll. Swimming is also not a very good idea as the waves can be unforgiving, you might end up splattered across the boulders that abound the place.

Staying overnight is not a very smart decision. Go back to number 2 for the reason.

Do not bring your kids, your grandparents, your old parents, or someone who is physically challenged to Cancua-Ay Private Beach Resort because, oh we already said it THERE ARE 200 SOMETHING STEPS THAT EVERYONE HAS TO ENDURE JUST TO GET TO THE BEACH.

There is no good food in the area so bring your own baon. They do not charge a corkage fee so that’s fine.

If you still want to insist on going to Cancua-Ay Private Beach Resort to see it for yourself, then let us help you in finding your disappointment.

HOW TO GET TO CANCUA-AY PRIVATE BEACH FROM CEBU

Address: Brgy. Tan-awan, Cangcuay, Oslob, Southern Cebu

1.) Go to Cebu South Bus Terminal (along N. Bacalso National Road) then ride a bus bound for Bato via Oslob. 3-4 hours₱150 – ₱200 per way 2.) Ask the bus conductor to drop you off at Cancua-Ay Beach Resort. It’s just beside Seafari resort.3.) Find that stairs leading down the beach. You will pass by a big house with a not-so-friendly old man that will ask where you’re heading. Just tell him you are a visitor and brings no bad luck. Lol.

We see from other sites that Cancua-Ay Private Beach Resort is also accessible from Dumaguete via Sibulan Port through Lilo-An Port in Santander, Cebu from where you can hail a bus going to Oslob. Travel time is only an hour. Cool!

On our end, we simply drove to the area using our own vehicle. We used Waze (you can also use Google Maps) and simply searched for “Tan-awan Cangcuay Beach- Modern Villa De Luxe, Oslob, Cebu”.

Take note that parking space is limited to at least 8 vehicles.

CANCUA-AY PRIVATE BEACH RESORT FEES AND RATES

Day Tour (10AM to 5PM): ₱150 per adult / ₱50 per kid

Overnight Tour (5PM onwards): ₱300 per adult / ₱100 per kid (Let me remind you again that staying overnight is not a smart idea. Your choice. Bring a tent.)

If there is one good thing about Cancua-Ay Private Beach Resort it is the fact that cottages are FREE for paying guests BUT on a first-come, first-serve basis.

From a visitor’s point of view, if you really want to stay overnight, then it is better to stay in Seafari Resort. It has an infinity pool that overlooks the vast ocean. Also, you can simply walk the shore and reach Cancua-Ay Private Beach Resort if you’re checked-in at Seafari. You can book here.

Also, there are a lot more activities you better do than sit your ass out all day in this resort waiting for the tide to go up.

Luk Yuen offers Cantonese dining that was effectively translated to Filipino genuine experience. It started as a traditional noodle house offering congee, noodles, and dim sum. Their focus on quality, freshness, consistency and affordability made them a local favorite, and now, Luk Yuen is a full-service Chinese restaurant.

LUK YUEN BRANCHES

They have 5 branches – Greenhills, SM Megamall, Cash & Carry (Makati), Alabang Town Center (ATC), and Glorietta 2. We have been to 3 of their branches (SM Megamall, ATC, and Glorietta) and all of them offer a casual ambience. We frequent the ATC branch, even if the place smells old, because of its accessibility from our home.

Luk Yuen ATC is more like a hole in the wall. It’s just beside the supermarket so the place is usually packed with diners who just finished doing their grocery.

LUK YUEN MENU – OUR ORDERS

We recently ate in their SM Megamall branch and as usual, we were not disappointed. We spent ₱1,225 on this set:

Luk Yuen Noodle House is our most favorite Chinese restaurant. They offer great quality of various Chinese food options for affordable prices. We frequent their ATC branch. Today, we dined at their SM Megamall branch and as usual, we were not disappointed. We spent P1,225 for this set: Buchi – P110 Yang Chow Rice – P250 Hakaw Dumplings – P195 Beef with Broccoli – P360 Hot and Sour Soup – P110 Mango Sago – P120 Stuffed Eggplant – P110 JimBry loved the Hot and Sour soap while I super enjoyed their Hakaw Dumplings stuffed with chunky shrimps! Their Stuffed Eggplant is also one for the book!

We also like their Chicken Feet with Chili for its right amount of spice, sweetness, and flavor. Their Peppercorn Spareribs were fried until golden brown. It’s crunchy on the outside but juicy on the inside. Its kick of spice is notable. Their Yang Chow Fried Rice is also a must-try. And oh! Do not forget their congee and noodles in your order list!

SERVICE & STAFF

For all of the branches we dined at, we can say that their crews are friendly and attentive. Service was fast and professional. Although we hope that they can be more proactive in offering house tea.

Luk Yuen truly has delicious and affordable Chinese food options that you will enjoy. Prices are reasonable; they also have ample servings that can be shared with other diners you are with. Definitely, this is a must-try restaurant if you want great dim sum food.

Just 10-15 minutes away from central Tagaytay, this place called Kabbalah that proudly sits in the middle of lush vegetation in Silang will definitely provide the rest and relaxation you badly need. “Kabbalah” is a school of thought of Judaism which discipline empowers humans to improve lives, discover purpose, and achieve the lasting fulfilment we are meant to receive. Kabbalah Place is just the perfect zone where mortals can achieve inner peace and contentment. Its idyllic setting provides you with the backdrop you need to rest and relax.

Idly sitting amidst lush vegetation of around 4000-square-meter land in Silang, Kabbalah Place offers leisure and relaxation like no others. This property is just 5-10 minutes away from the busy Tagaytay City proper. It offers a unique replica of the Taal Lake that glows beautifully in crimson red against the darkness of the night.

All guests can use the Taal Replica Pool for free, roam around the beautiful property, and did I say you can also enjoy petting and feeding the animals in their mini-zoo? A swimming pool with orange eels is also available! Yay!

Others:

Jacuzzi and sauna are also available inside the property where guests could enjoy exclusively. Rate is ₱600 per person for one-hour use of sauna and Jacuzzi and one-hour of massage.

You can rate the whole place for ₱29,000. It can accommodate 30 persons.

Kabbalah Place currently offers a 20% discount per unit and a 25% discount if renting the whole place. See computation below:

1 chalet at ₱4,500 less 20% = 3600/night (good for 5 persons)

1 family house at ₱6,500 less 20% = ₱5200/night (good for 7 persons)

Whole place package rate at ₱29,000 less 25% = ₱21,750/night (good for 30 persons)

Good deal, yeah?!

IMPORTANT:

There are no eateries or restaurants available in Kabbalah Place and although they provide free breakfast to their guests, make sure that your lunch and dinner are covered. Bring your own baon. There are Chateau Hestia European Cuisine, Bawai Vietnamese Restaurant, and Asiong Caviteno Restaurant nearby that you might want to try. (Balitaan ninyo kami kung masarap ha?)

Kabbalah Place is not yet searchable by Waze or Google map so just type in Bioplus-Crador, Corp. Silang – they are in the same location.
