ZS vs LU dynamic

(This is not a ship post btw I’m just using the initials to simplify.)

I was thinking about the East Blue 5 dynamic and how the Oda went about Luffy and Usopp’s friendship and Zoro and Sanji’s rivalry. It’s clear from of their designs they were always meant to be a duo.

Zoro and Sanji on the surface level are complete opposites. Sanji is interested in woman and his takes care of his appearance while Zoro is more interested in goals and isn’t the most hygienic guy around. If you look deeper you’ll realize they are two sides of the same coin. I think because of their similarities they clash more.

ZS are both the main care takers of the crew, they both have this cool guy persona but are softies on the inside, both are very sacrificial, and had a violent upbringing with a lot of isolation which lead to them maturing faster and becoming stronger than other people their age. I can go on and on but you get the gist of it. It’s not a coincidence they share essentially share the same role. I do love the hc of first mate Zoro but I think Zoro and Sanji being refer to as the wings is more accurate. Zoro and Sanji are equals. They understand each other on a deeper level because their mindset is similar.

I think the true opposites are Luffy and Usopp. On the surface they are very similar with their more childish nature and same interest in bugs but their way of thinking is the exact opposite.

Luffy doesn’t think at all. He just does things. Luffy is famous for rarely using thought bubbles and is extremely confident in his abilities. He believes he can get anything done if he put his mind to it. He doesn’t let his fears hold him back.

Usopp all the other hand is an overthinker and has very little self confidence. He’s also a more realistic person and his fears prevent him from reaching his true potential.

Despite the differences I think Luffy and Usopp are in very similar positions. Luffy might be the captain of the Strawhat pirates but Usopp has more influence on the grand fleet over all. Also the two of them are the only two characters that are deified. Ofc Luffy is on a bigger scale but the two have alot of influence over the people they meet. It’s not a coincidence that Usopp keeps getting the same bounties as Luffy.

I think it’s a genius spin on things to have the two rivals be two people who have similar mindset compared to the two opposites be best friends.

I just saw a take on zosan that was awful enough I had to block the person. They labelled their post "hot takes" and it annoyed me enough that I felt like hating on it from afar in a vague way would be less destructive than writing an entire essay in this person's comments section.

If you like treating Sanji like a babygirl - just say so. Nothing wrong with that. Don't act like uke-ifying him is accurate to his canon characterization though. If you don't like Zoro as a character, just SAY THAT. Don't act like your shitty understanding of him as a character should be common sense. Their premise was that zosan would work best as a non sexual relationship - sure I'm fine with that. Sounds like an interesting premise. Why tho?

The reasons were stupid.

1. Apparently bc Zoro is too much of a neanderthal and BC he doesn't shower frequently Sanji would never touch him blah blah (Sanji smokes ten million cigarettes a day, I assure you he doesn't smell good) y'all should stop treating him like a babygirl bc bleh Zoro stinky and likes drinking and where did that whole he's Nami's gay best friend thing come from, he isn't that, he doesn't deserve it. Okay??? First of all - last I checked babygirl didn't require certain qualifications - so fuck off? I've concluded that Zoro is the only babygirl and you can foam at the mouth all you want, I'm not changing my mind. Second of all, did you forget that NAMI can drink people under the table too?? Zoro does canonically have a very friendship/sibling-like dynamic with Nami. They argue and fight, but they care about each other. If there is anyone who would make sense as a headcanon of one of Nami's close friends? Zoro would be a candidate. Usopp I would argue would be a better option, but Zoro also makes sense. Third of all, Sanji spends all day cooking (often cooking SEAFOOD) in a three piece suit and then smoking like a chimney. He may shower more frequently than Zoro but I assure you he doesn't smell like a rose garden either. You also can't be a cook if you shy away from a little elbow grease and sweat. Getting dirty for your craft is something he understands. He also has atrocious fashion sense when it comes to clothes that are not suits and he's a lil crazy in the same way all the strawhats are but he hides it well. Sanji is a ridiculous man and I like him that way. Stop it.

2. Sanji isn't some fainting flower, and it annoys me that this person was trying to paint him that way as if it's a forgone conclusion. Their argument was that he screams at bugs, and they were using it as an argument on why Sanji is apparently a babygirl who could never top anyone (why in the world does sex position even play a factor here??). They also pinpointed that Sanji wears suits and swoons at women as a reason why he's likely not gonna top anyone and is gonna remain a virgin. Admittedly I stopped reading at that point bc I made the executive decision to block the person for my own peace of mind, so I perhaps misunderstood (I barely understood the argument in the first place) but I still don't see how any of these factors have anything to do with sex position, or a sexual relationship not working with zosan. I'm all for asexual zosan. But y'all need to stop treating Sanji like some frail twink. That man is badass. He has a strong enough kick to kill a man, his leg catches on fire, he can fucking fly, he gives as good as he gets when it comes to his interactions with Zoro, he survived years and years of abuse from his family and came out a kindhearted person with principles. He is strong af. Again. STOP. IT.

3. None of those reasons for why they wouldn't have sex make sense to me because they operate under an assumption that Sanji would find Zoro gross so obvi they wouldn't have sex. The person fundamentally misunderstood that most people who like zosan aren't there bc they want smut, they're there because Zoro and Sanji are equal and opposites and they understand each other in a very fundamental way from the moment they met. Yes, their relationship is antagonistic, but in the way that Brogy and Dorry are set up in that one episode. If you understand that, then you get that when it comes to rivals, when it comes to their competition and their interactions with each other, Sanji wouldn't give a shit about avoiding getting his hands dirty. That is not the type of person he is. Zoro is his one exception in that sense. He has etiquette and acts like a refined gentleman, and then Zoro issues a challenge and Sanji is there, IMMEDIATELY ready and willing to throw down. He swoons over women, Zoro says anything and IMMEDIATELY Sanji's attention is all on Zoro. I have to wonder if this person even fucking watched the show before deciding to pass a bunch of unfounded judgements.

If Judge caught Reiju defending Sanji, Judge would’ve told her to stand down and she would have no choice. She did the best she could in their horrible situation.

I hate when people draw Sanji shorter. Such a pet peeve of mine. It’s funny bc idc when they make Zoro the shorter one in the Zosan dynamic but with Sanji it irks me. I think it’s bc the intention behind it.

With Sanji we all know why. It’s bc he’s the bottom so he has to be 4 inches shorter than Zoro. It doesn’t look right. Sanji’s fighting style is being the leg guy. I showed my friend who don’t watch OP a picture of Sanji and she were like “he’s long as hell 💀” Making him shorter just ruins the appeal of his design. And for what? To show how small and frail Sanji is compared to Zoro?

I’ve seen people draw Zoro as the shorter one it looks better and more balanced. They keep Zoro buff and some even exaggerate more. Also it would make sense if Sanji becomes taller. His father is 9ft. OP mfs don’t stop growing. I can see a future Sanji just towering over Zoro. It would be hilarious. Zoro would probably get bulkier just to keep up with Sanji’s height advantage.

Bro why am I seeing people say Sanji is bullying Zoro 😭

Sanji isn’t a bully. Those two always been harsh with each other. They both hold each other to a high standard. I understand the concerned about Zoro’s insecurities about being a burden but Zoro wasn’t performing his best. Sanji is seeing Zoro do something very ooc. Sure Zoro is the type to pick unnecessary fights but to drag it out during a life or death situation? Sanji was rightfully pissed off. If the roles were reversed and Sanji was dragging out a fight Zoro would react the same way.

So I need yall to stop babying Zoro and turning this into a ZS bad. I am seeing takes that Zoro and Sanji despise each other and have 0 understand for each other. If you felt Sanji was harsh that’s fine but he wasn’t in the wrong. Plus it’s just fueling stupid discourse.

My take away is I’m going use this as fuel for Zosan angst. Neither of them had been acting right. If y’all thought burden was to cruel for Zoro you wouldn’t be able to handle the fact in Japan Sanji said it in a more arrogant tone. He sounded more like his brothers. Sanji’s germa plot point is still going on.

Also I saw a theory that Zoro is still injured from Wano but is hiding it. I believe in the more meta explanation that Oda had to sideline Zoro until the climax but that’s another cool parallel to Sabaody. I fuck with it and hope it the case.

I think what could happen is post Egghead Sanji confronts to tell Zoro off. He can tell something is off with Zoro but Zoro would just tell Sanji to fuck off. They would get into a serious fight and start Elbaf with tension. Maybe during Elbaf Sanji goes full Germa and Zoro fights him and talks/beat him out of it.

This way that promise during Wano of Zoro having to kill Sanji if he loses his mind can finally come full circle. Also I think having a genuine Zoro vs Sanji fight would be heat.

RUNNING THROUGH MY MIND

I’ve been seeing people all over the fandom getting mad at Zosan fans for making the Tashigi and Reiju picture about Zosan. I really don’t think it’s that deep.

It’s valid to be annoyed ofc but I’ve seen people try to twist it into some misogynistic thing when it’s absolutely not. There is a connection between the two. Vinsmoke x swordsman. It’s not that deep. I’ve seen people say Zosan fans who do this are women haters which is a reach. Like some of them are but maybe go after the ones who are making hate post about Hiyori and not the ones who are just making fan art of Sanji and Reiju bonding over their love for swordsmen.

Anyways Tashigi x Reiji real I hope they interact in canon. (Maybe has a a gay moment in the final war)
