I think people are confused...because, um...saying I, as a biracial Black woman, am uncomfortable with white white Anne Rice fans until I get to hear or read how they address the fucked up framing of the shit she wrote in her stories is not censorship lol. On the one hand, it's so weird to me that every article like this I see leaves out Rupert Grint, since, to quote the BBC (emphasis mine):

I think that she’s extremely talented, and I mean, clearly, her works are genius. “But yeah, I think also you can have huge respect for someone and still disagree with things like that.” On why he decided to weigh in, he added: “Sometimes silence is even louder. I felt like I had to because I think it was important to. I mean, I don’t want to talk about all that… “Generally, I’m not an authority on the subject. Just out of kindness, and just respecting people. I think it’s a valuable group that I think needs standing up for.”

On the other hand, I'm sure Grint appreciates flying under the radar and not being dragged into the perpetual news cycle blender of JK Rowling's bullshit.

This is fascinating for two reasons.

1. They haven’t actually apologised for anything. She’s pre-emptively rejecting an apology that they have no intention of giving.

2. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are extremely well-liked. A lot of people are more attached to them in their roles as they are to the actual characters in the books.

so apparently in the earliest drafts of phantom menace, lucas had anakin at 12 years old, but eventually knocked it down to 9, because anakin leaving his mom at 12 "is not nearly as traumatic" as it would be at 9. this separation really is a foundational trauma for the tragic character, and he needed to make it hit as hard as possible, so he found the sweet spot of bad timing for qui-gon to find anakin. it makes me think of AUs where he is both older and younger and able to handle separation and transition better, both help avoid the problem of his psychological misfit with the jedi. his age of discovery is a vital part of all the things that had to right (for sidious) and wrong (for the jedi) for darth vader to happen, like the deck was intentionally stacked against anakin's happiness from the beginning on purpose for dramatic reasons. lucas's design of the backstory for such an established villain was really an archaeology of trauma that led to such a disaster, scraping away layers of the adult psyche to see the damaged child inside. many didn't like that the movie was about a whiny kid, but it's fascinating to me that lucas wanted vader to be understood as having that child weeping inside.

All of Obi-Wan's incredibly dangerous adventures did... sort of happen? Bandomeer happened! But Qui-Gon was supervising for most of it. Melida/Daan happened! But it didn't last quite as long as the creche says it did, and Obi-Wan got to keep his lightsaber, and Qui-Gon did in fact come back after Tahl was stabilized.
