OH MY WORD THIS IS GREAT

No actually thank you for thinking this through because the AOS/TOS Kirk differences always made sense to me - obviously his childhood and general life experiences were drastically altered by the timeline shift. But I couldn’t wrap my head about Spock’s subtle changes and this makes a hell of a lot of sense. Also pointing out the more militaristic Starfleet - hadn’t twigged that one, but again, much sense made.

Ok so I wrote this last night about how I like how AOS handles Kirk and how I think the differences in his character both make sense and comment on how we as a culture remember Captain Kirk. Now let’s do Spock

Wow, this episode is almost like a date and look at all the almost hand touches.

I am, of course, only joking for the most part though messing up Klingon plans seems like an ideal K/S date.

Hmm... hang on... That can't be deliberate. *squints* Nah... I've been spending too much time in this fandom, I'm imagining Kirk trying to hold Spock's hand... Though that totally had the same energy as when someone pretends to yawn and put their arms around a shoulder only it failed so you have to cover up.

Re: Serene’s relationship with Golden, I paid less attention to that (because I was kind of convinced she was going to end up in a poly thing with the boys XD). So now I realllly want to go back and reread the Golden scenes so I can see what was up with her hating him as a kid and whatnot (iirc). But basically, all this, yes, are you me?

I accidentally managed to fall for In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan more than I usually fall for books (as in I read it in one evening then spent today reading all of the available fanfic), so I decided to make one of those "what I love about this book" posts. Enjoy? (Also warning for spoilers)

First of all, surprise queers!!! I had no idea that would be the case from the summary and it turned out to be great bisexual rep? And a same-sex relationship as endgame? And other queer minor characters? I love this

Elliot. I love this obnoxious disaster child who grows up to be just as much of a disaster who cannot communicate (but he recognises when he's hurting others and makes an effort to be better). I have so much love for this ranting and annoying nerd who changes the world through diplomacy. It's a nice change for a protagonist

Wings. Do I need to say more? I have a soft spot for winged characters, please don't judge me

And I love Luke so much, he keeps trying and keeps being a good friend who goes along with Elliot's stupid schemes even when he thinks Elliot hates him. His bond with Serene is amazing. I also really like his arc about accepting himself as a half-harpy

Also, I fucking called it on Luke liking Elliot this whole time. So glad they finally managed to communicate

Something something love as a choice and how the other person has to choose you back for it to work... Many thoughts

I love how this book comments on the fucked-upness of the "magical land" as a trope with all the wars, glorification of violence, child soldiers and the idea of "inheretly evil sentient species" (which I hate with a passion). Elliot the pacifist? Who eventually grows used to weapons and death? While being aware of how fucked up it is? I'm here for it

Golden is amazing for rejecting Serene's bad love letters that are basically just bragging. I still don't know what I feel about the elves (I know the point is to subvert gender norms to show how ridiculus they are, but it kind of goes further than in both our society and the borderlands. And Serene sometimes seems so clueless about it? Just glad it was commented on that neither way is good). I'm also proud of Serene's character development, go gender equality and defying societal gender roles!

I have many more thoughts, but this is getting pretty long so I'm ending this with my firm opinion that there should be more hugs. The group hug after Serene and Luke return from the war is amazing and I need more of them holding onto each other, just the plain relief that they are together and alive and okay. I might need to write a fic

In Dream a Little Dream of Me, while Dean's fighting his dream doppleganger, he admits that all the pressure John put on him to take care of Sam wasn't fair. I think that's the first time he does in the show.

In 12.22, while Mary's dreaming, he tells her that it wasn't fair that he had to be mother and father to Sam.

and it got me thinking...

On some level, Dean probably resents Sam for having played a role in the loss of his childhood. This is a pretty normal thing for people who have gone through parentification like Dean has, but I bet he doesn't know that. I bet he feels awful about it, like it somehow makes him wrong and lesser. He probably tries to compartmentalize it away and cover it up by smothering it with love for Sam but... that doesn't get rid of it. Not really.

Does he ever say anything like that in the show?

can you talk about being intersex and cis? how do you know if you're cis or trans when you're intersex? i promise this isn't meant to be rude i'm just a little confused as to how gender works when you're intersex. thank you so much.

I’m cis because I’m afab and still identify as a woman. If I was afab and identified any other way, I’d be trans. I’m intersex because my body itself has a mixed bag of secondary sex characteristics and hormones.

The label “intersex” itself isn’t a gender identity as much as it’s a way for people with mixed or ambiguous sex characteristics to define that experience. There are cis men and women who are intersex, trans people of every kind as well. I’m sure there are intersex people who just identify as intersex entirely but most intersex people I’ve met still identify as male, female, or nonbinary. Because your body doesn’t determine your gender identity.

Also, the opposite of intersex is perisex. You can be cis or trans, while being intersex or perisex. If you’re not intersex, you are perisex.

sam dies in s8 and is brought back in mary’s place in s12 is just.

it really is like you thought you died closing the gates of hell but your brother gets you into the impala. (he looks 10 years older, but it’s only been 3) and the night feels like a black hole as you drive. the seats don’t look the same. when you get back to the house everyone hugs you. they mention a mark of cain and the Darkness and there are people who you don’t know the names of so you just keep quiet. you don’t know what they mean by anything but you already have enough to research so you don’t look into it. you don’t learn for months that cas used to be human.

and then you start getting these visions and you think they’re from God.
