Tom took one final drag of his cigar and took it out. I looked up at him, studying his features. I wish I could believe anything he said. It was silent, his arm around me as we sat there.
When he hugged me, it didn't feel like him. It felt like a complete stranger hugging me. I didn't know how to feel about it. I just felt.. nothing. I used to feel safe in his arms. like it was home. Now, I just feel nothing.
"I love you." I whispered underneath my breath.
He hesitated for a moment. Then spoke up.
"I love you too."
