What’s cuter than a baby Grookey? How about a baby Grookey discovering snow? Baby Lucy is doing great and growing very quickly! While she’s still a mama’s girl, she’s been much more adventurous and curious recently. Many of our Pokemon have been enjoying the snowy winter weather, and she’s no different! If you stop by our newly renovated Rillaboom Rondezvous exhibit, you may be lucky enough to spot her and her siblings playing in the snow!
We apologize for the lack of updates, a lot of our Pokemon were moved off site for major construction, but they’re back and absolutely loving their new habitats!!!

One of our keepers captured a precious moment between Gracie and her baby Jubilee! Blisseys carry their eggs in their pouches, which hatch if they’re fertilized. Just like Kangashkhans, babies stay in their mother’s pouch until mom feels comfortable letting her baby go off and explore. Here, Gracie is helping Jubilee learn about the world while also getting some time to play with her baby! We feel honored to be able to see such sweet scenes from our Pokemon here every day❤️

Going to the doctor is a lot more fun when you get treats!
Tumblr media
A visit to the vet is stressful for any Pokémon, so we train them with positive reinforcement to make it much easier for the keepers, veterinary staff, and of course the Pokémon. First, we get them comfortable with the keepers inspecting sensitive areas like their teeth, belly, paws for any visible issues like sores and scrapes. Then, once they’re comfortable with being transported to the on-site veterinary office, they’re able to have normal check-ups!
Lovebird is a bit of a regular at the vets’, so she’s a pro at check-ups! She came to us with a severely injured wing, meaning that she couldn’t be returned to the wild. Due to her inability to fly, she would be incredibly vulnerable to predators and unable to find her own food. However, here at the Wyndon Zoo, she gets regular check-ups from our world class veterinary staff as well as lots of yummy mealworms and berries for being such a brave little Swoobat!

Flambe is really living up to his name; he clearly likes his meat well done!
Tumblr media
Yesterday, guests were lucky enough to watch a carcass feed! This is a great form of enrichment for large, hunting carnivores like Flambe. It stimulates their hunting instincts without the chaos that comes with such large live prey by using a zipline system to make a carcass move like the prey they’d normally hunt. In the wild, Charizards lay among the dessert rocks and jump out (and usually up!) at their prey with a firey attack! However, Flambe is shiny. As pretty as he is, he sticks out like a sore thumb. In the wild, he wouldn’t be able to hunt, but at the zoo, he’s able to hunt for his meals regularly! He came to us as a tiny Charmander, and needless to say, he’s thrived! Hopefully you can catch a carcass feed on your next visit!

Turi is beating the heat by going for a nice, cool swim! Did you know that in the wild Beartics can swim up to almost 19 miles in one day?
Since the areas Beartics live in are chilly year-round, we need to make sure Turi doesn’t overheat during the summer. Of course, her favorite is her pool, but she also has a snow dispenser and regularly gets enrichment items like fish popsicles! And like all of our Pokémon, she has a climate controlled off-exhibit area she can go if she doesn’t feel like hanging around guests.

Wonderful news, everyone!
Tumblr media
We are happy to reveal our new member of the Rillaboom troop to the public! This lovely little girl is Lucy, Tempo’s new baby, and is now able to be seen at our Rillaboom Rendezvous exhibit. You’ll most likely spot her snuggled up next to mom, but she’s starting to explore her exhibit and mingle with her siblings!
Rillabooms were originally found all over Galar’s forests, but are now unfortunately extinct in the wild. By working with other zoos and sanctuaries, we’ve been able to establish a healthy population. Every healthy baby born is always great news for this species, and little Lucy is our most recent! We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this sweet baby girl’s adventures.

Our Chatot, Pesquet, is very curious about his berries! In the wild, Chatots feed on a wide variety of fruits, so we make sure to vary their diet and keep it interesting for them with all sorts of different berries.

Welcome to the Wyndon Zoo, a state of the art facility for Pokémon care, research, and education located in the heart of Galar! This account seeks to educate about how we take care of and help both wild and captive Pokémon. We’ll also post some cute photos and updates of the Pokémon in our care. Feel free to ask any questions that pop up, or even ask about your favorites here at the zoo. We hope you enjoy our feed!

(Admin note: Please note a few things. I am a student, while I do want to work in this field and do a lot of research to make this account somewhat informative, please do not take what I say as absolute fact! This account is based on AZA-accredited zoos and their care standards, but even that group has a wide variety of practices. This is also talking about fictional animals and so a fairly substantial amount of creative liberty is needed. I also am balancing a lot of stuff with school, extracurriculars, personal art, work, and am just one person, so please be patient! I do hope you all enjoy this account :) )
