ok so can i talk about mystic messenger for a bit? i see a lot of posts about this but i still wanna express my opinion.

spoiler warning kinda??? I'm not sure if I'll really spoil anything important

getting a bad ending is a result of the mc being toxic. she's being toxic because she's letting the characters continue doing their bad habits (707 caring more about work than his well-being, jumin being super possessive, jeahee putting up with jumin's bullshit etc.) and even encourages them (when she says she's fine with yoosung calling her rika). I've had people complain to me about getting bad endings and I don't think they understand that it's THEIR fault. what the characters do is directly connected to what choices the mc made. you can't complain about getting jumin's bad end for like the fifth time (not that I've heard someone complain about his second bad ending, which I'll talk about in a bit) when you continue letting him being overly possessive. you can't complain about getting yoosung's bad end when you always let him compare you to and call you rika.

I've also seen people romanticize these bad endings which is not ok (ofc this is just a game but some people take things too far). jumin's second bad ending is not just sexual it's also hella messed up when you think about it. you have absolutely no freedom, you can't leave the penthouse, you can't talk to other people, you're basically just a doll. i personally wouldn't wanna live like that.

v's bad ending is also absolutely disgusting. he is basically taking pictures of you while you're doing inappropriate stuff. it's not disgusting because of what he does but because the mc pushed him into this. she let this happen. we are the reason the characters are like this in their bad endings. in some of them she even dies (I'm not gonna say in which ones in case y'all wanna find out by playing) and that's not the character's fault. it's - you guessed it - the mc's fault.

these people are very vulnerable, you come into their lifes at a time where they're all kind of lost and still dealing with rika's death. that's why you have such a big effect on them and you can either choose to help them or completely destroy them. that's why i love the game so much. when you're playing it for the first time it looks like a cute otome game, but when you look deeper you find out that's it's so much darker and messed up. that's probably why mystic messenger is considered to be the most popular otome game of all time.
