are these chiefs in order? is hamish ii Stoick's grandfather?
i always thought that hamish i were the oldest known chiefs, with the father to the left of hamish i being hamish ii as an older man with his own son and so on. but stoick's father is to the right of hamish, so shouldn't that make hamish ii stoick's grandad?
but then y would the treasure be so mysterious? stoick met his grandfather - also wouldn't he just be called "stoick's grandfather" or "hiccup's great-grandfather" rather than hamish ii??

Jack using the wind to speak to non-believers would be so insanely creepy- because imagine, you're alone, you're walking and the hairs on the back of your neck and prickling, because you've just heard something- was it the leaves, behind you? The sound of something else? Trash, an animal? So then you're left wondering, "Is something there?" and yet, when you look back, there's not even a shadow to watch.
Then, suddenly the wind picks up, and maybe it makes you chilly, and so you're holding your arms, and then it gets stronger, but then you have a problem, because you don't know which way to face, and where is it coming from?
There is wind whipping everywhere, things are flying violently, nearly because all in a moment, it's searching for just the right crack, the right slip, the right noise to carry, and they're all in different places, because one vowel could take many noises, depending on the tone, which has to be inconsistant, because there's virtually no way to work speaking over the wind into an art, because the world is always subject to change and unless you want to carry around a whole host of tools, you have to find your sounds, figure out your do-re-mis as you go, so there's not even a full word coming from any one direction, and sounds die, so of course, so if you want to be heard now, the wind has to be stronger than ever, so you're trying to speak, but the person you're speaking to is much too focused on trying to make it out alive to listen.
And maybe Jack's trying say something, to be funny, but it won't carry because talking over the wind is inherently wild and it takes a lot of control.
But also, imagine you're a musician, and when it is calm, and you're at peace with yourself, and you're doing very well, sometimes it feels like your instrument is talking to you. ...And almost, almost it sounds like someone else is singing along, too, like you've got a partner playing to the same tune, with the same notes, and you're not just singing for yourself- it's a voice you can almost make out, but not quite, and some words are missing, and you can't always hear it over those pesky sharps, but it's there, nearly gentle and sometimes not, so it's feels like all the world -the woods, plants, leaves, birds, the spaces betweeen trashcans and through the air under and around the seats in the concert hall, maybe it's even the carried voices of other people, words and phrases selectively carrried- it's all singing and dancing around and sombre and joyful and feeling with you.
And then, when you're putting your instrument away, when you're pressing your bow back into it's case and making sure your reed is sound and you're carefully resting the lid of your piano, you feel better- you're looking around, thinking to yourself, nearly imagining you actually, quite literally had a partner to sing and play with, a partner to dance to your melody, and that it hadn't just been you and the magic of your music that had been stringing your heart along.
You think of fairies and witches and other forest-y, musical, planted creatures, unseeing, unknowingly mussing the solid imprint of a footprint in the dust, dirt or something else that someone nearly there had left by your side.
Also to consider- when you've got a gloved hand knuckle-deep in a shelf of ice way up north, with nothing a pickaxe in hand, a rope and parka to your name and it's just gotten dangerous- when you're alone, more than you've ever been in your life, and it sounds like the wind is screaming and it's stoming and snowling like you've never seen before and you've just heard something almost like a yelll echoing throughout the canyons, all drowned snow-white, and it's frustrated, echoing and devastating, almost reflecting the complete and utter terror broiling in your gut, the feel of frozen flesh thick around your bones and the hope you feel dying, running cold and sharp down your spine, like a weight heavy in your gut, fading by your feet like the ice numbing all sensation there-

the thing is, content creators can keep all their things to themselves- the point of posting for many (tho not all) people is to find other people with like minds so please comment under your favorite author/artist's work unless you want to loose them

No, I'm constantly thinking about this- Hiccup is a completely different character. They also change his hobbies and unwravel his character arc from the first movie- he literally 'found himself' twice- which, of course, he got older, but it doesn't make as much sense from a viewer's standpoint because usually the reason someone chooses to watch a movie is to continue the story and bear witness to the feeling of a character they've grown attached to.
The reason many characters over different mediums don't face any major design changes and stick to a common color theme is because characters are concepts and when you change the base concept they quite literally become a different character.
Most people recognize things through shapes, colors and experience attachment to different character's personalities- However, of course, it's a time skip, part of the point should be to say 'this is a different character- they've grown and aged.' but, the dangerous thing about that is if you change the characters' personalities too much, you run the risk of having viewers processing the second design of the character as a completely different person- and usually this causes a lot of issues, especially if you take into account that a lot of people actually haven't seen the shows.
Part of the reasons time passing and character design changes work for other mediums is that the viewers are able to experience how the changes happened and through watching the characters evolve, viewers are then able to accept the character design changes and personality alterations and see how the changes made to certain characters might actually feel like a natural continuation of said character.
The jump from first movie to second movie Hiccup should mostly have been covered by Race to the Edge, even despite the fact that there is also a vast Hiccup model change from the RoB/DoB shows. However, RTTE didn't come out until AFTER the second movie. We can process and experience that now, but for people who didn't back then and for people who fall under the category of 'casual movie goer' (which is a number that probably, frankly, encompases a population that is much larger than the HTTYD fandom) it's got to be jarring.
I know it was jarring for me, and I feel that it might almost ward people away from investing themselves the franchise, because the last thing you ever want to do is split your audience in this way, because in doing this (rehashing the plot, changing the model and his personality so drastically), you pit HTTYD 1 and HTTYD 2 Hiccup against each other. It forces people to consider 'which Hiccup did I like better? Which story was my favorite?' which is bad because they're supposed to be the same person and HTTYD 2 is an extension of his story, not a movie that was supposed to rival it- which is ironically where a lot of other sequels fail, too. Then the focus is not on how great the story was itself and how much someone might want to experience it more but on the competition between the first two movies and how one was better than the other.
This is also why, in my opinion, reiterating the same 'finding yourself' plot isn't necessarily a good thing- of course, a journey where someone has to continuously rediscover who they are sounds like a good premise (and it is), but again, since Hiccup was changed up so much, it doesn't feel like we're following the same character and we know the franchise isn't a conglomeration of different main characters' experiences either, because Hiccup (adventurer) and Hiccup (inventor) are the same person.
The thing about plot is that, usually, in order to keep viewers interested, most authors choose to raise the stakes- the escalation is exactly what keep people hooked. Serialized shows did this all the time- each episode was an opportunity for a character to learn more and to build on their experiences, and we see this in part in RoB/DoB.
A plot where a character re-experiences themselves needs to be properly paced and in order to contextualize the growth and changes present within a character, each escalation and arc needs to make sense.
The first movie was amazing- and it had a stunning conclusion and feels like it reaches the peak of it's climb.
The Toothless superpowers fight feels like it came out of nowhere- unlike the solution that Hiccup comes up with in the first movie.
Like I've said, half the joy of watching Hiccup is watching his process because he is at heart, at least in the first movie, an inventor. Toothless' tail, what he's learned about the dragons- every single bit of it was useful and contributed to the conclusion we got in the first movie.
We see HTTYD2 Hiccup use his trinkets but that step-by-step, beautifully crafted framework has been switched for something centering around action and tellanovella drama, which, again, isn't inherently bad, but there was no proper leadup and the changing of most of the characters involved stifles its impact.
TLDR; Httyd 2 Hiccup has a completely different face shape, hair color, hair texture and outfit (the last one comes as a must, though). It detracts from the story imo and it has less of an impact because he both feels and looks like a completely separate person.
And this is why I say that Httyd2 set the precedent for Httyd3- one of the issues a lot of people have with the third movie is that it supposedly takes a huge leap away from the messaging of the previous two, backtracking over characters' character arcs and completely messing with the lore, but what I think is important to realize when discussing the third movie in this context is that Httyd2 did the exact same thing to a very similar effect and escalated the plot to a degree that set a standard for the rest of the series (not necessarily a good thing) that I believe made HTTYD3 impossible to be anything other than it was- and I believe most people don't pick up on this because it just didn't get as much bad PR as pre the third release.
Is no one gonna talk about this dramatic shift between httyd 1 hiccup and httyd 2 hiccup!?

I know he is older in the second movie but that's a whole new character model
