Grad school is lying to you. You can indulge fixations on obscure topics on your own time. You can sit in a library color-coding notes on articles printed from JSTOR for free. You can argue with dead philosophers in essay format whenever you like. Academia is a state of mind.

Dear Diary,
Why does a best friend breakup ache this painfully for this long?
I can get over a partner in a few months, I've done it a few times already. But I'm still mourning for my best friends from every point in my life, whom I've not talked to in years. They were my sun, my moon, my everything for years until one day they just weren't anymore. How are years just not enough? Am I ever gonna get over them or am I gonna long for what we were for the rest of my life?
Is this why I can't find someone new anymore? I've reached my limit, and until I get over some of them, I just can't have any more? Am I going to be alone for the rest of my life? Will all my friendships remain superficial forever?

people need to understand that once you go through your worst time alone, you really don’t care who stays in your life anymore.

Dear Diary,
Why is it so easy to imitate someone else than be who you really are?
Why is it so easy to get influenced by others than to figure yourself out?
Why is it so easy to want to look like others than actually liking your own looks?
There has to be a reason for this; I must be missing something.
I'm so deep in it that I can't look from a bird's eye view anymore. I'm so deep in it that I'm scared there is no saving me anymore.

Dear Diary,
I'm tired of simply feeling. Cause i give it my all no matter what it is, even for things or people that don't matter. Every single thing, I give it my all. How am I not empty still? Why do I still want to feel even more? I feel the tiredness, and the depressive shit, yet I can't stop wanting more, feeling more, giving even more. Even when I have nothing more to give.

Dear Diary,
Why does it feel so heartwarming to think about your teenage years in which you were cripplingly insecure, had utmost self-hatred, and could not stand living. Yet, you were young, reckless, and unstoppable. Is that the feeling I crave again? Or is it the fact that I'm in the same place now in my 20s, and need to know that it can change again?

I know it is my father's first time on this Earth, too. And I know He had it worse when he was little.
But I was little too.

“One day, whether you are 14, 28 or 65, you will stumble upon someone who will start a fire in you that cannot die. However, the saddest, most awful truth you will ever come to find - is they are not always with whom we spend our lives.”
— Beau Taplin, Hunting Season
