I always find it hilarious when more recent adaptations of Sherlock Holmes makes Holmes the dreamy heartthrob/attractive one (not that he’s not a total catch) because my dudes, Watson is right there. He is literally like a Victorian wet dream, he is everything that classic Victorian period would find appealing- adventurous, fought for his country, learned, has groomed facial hair (legit that was like the equivalent of being 6’ tall today), polite. He’s got just enough “melancholy” (depression) and rakishness (gambling) to still be a gentleman but like a bad boy gentleman. A real Romantic (both romance how we think of it today and like Romanticism) archetype. If anyone is the heartthrob here, it is Watson.

🕵️‍♂️🕰️💎🌟
🕵🏻‍♂️ First adaptation/version that got you into Sherlock Holmes media?
My first was the Sherlock Holmes adaptation from Warner Bros. If I remember correctly, it was in mid-late 2015, and I decided to watch it because I was a huge MCU fan, and my favourite actor was Robert Downey Jr. But that did not make me want to watch or read any more Sherlockiana.
Then, I watched BBC Sherlock in 2016 because my mom showed it to me. I think this adaptation is probably what started the ride. Even tho it was very slow at first, if I never watched BBC Sherlock, I wouldn't be where I am now.
🕰 When did you first start listening to S&C?
I don't remember exactly the date, but I'm sure it was mid-late January 2024.
💎 Favourite moment?
Uhhh, now this is a hard question. This podcast has a lot of great moments, and it is hard to choose. But I think I will give it to the moment in the very first episode where we learn that in this adaptation, Sherlock is canonicaly neurodivergent. As an neurodivergent person myself, it made me really happy.
🌟 Favourite main character?
My mother, John Watson. (But I love them all very much!)

Felt inspired by the cool fan projects & interaction going on in the s&c fandom, so I figured an ask game was in order.
Feel free to send me one of these emojis & I'll respond to the question matched up with it. I encourage you to reblog and do the same :)

I wanna add that the reason why I even brought this up is because I think it would be cool to have one specific tag just for people who are looking specifically for any "victorian era/original era Johnlock". (And also because of what I said in the original post.)
Right now, it just kinda feels all over the place. Everyone is using a bit different variation, and you then have to follow a lot of tags to not miss anything. Or tag your posts with a lot of tags.
Of course, this isn't a big issue. It's okay. But you know. Still wanted to share my thought/idea.
The struggle of not knowing how to tag "Holmes/Watson" content if it's not specifically the BBC version of the ship.
Like, yeah, the ship name in general is Johnlock. I guess. But also most people don't call them by their first names if they do not talk about the modern adaptations. So calling those "Johnlock" feels kinda weird (?)
But there isn't really a popular ship name made from their surnames. I have seen Watsolmes, which I think is a good ship name, but people barely use it.
So I just end up using "[adaptation] Johnlock", "Johnlock" and "Watson/Holmes" ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌
How do we feel about Watsolmes, guys???

Hello, Sherlock Holmes adaptation writer. I have trapped you in this room. It is fully furnished and comfortable. On the table, you will notice a copy of A Scandal in Bohemia by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, of which redistribution is perfectly legal, as the work is in the public domain. You will notice it is rather thin. You have 24 hours to read the approximately 8,550 words in this story. To exit this room, all you must do is summarize the plot of the story without referring to Irene Adler as a seductress or implying she is attracted to Sherlock Holmes. Good luck.

Recently I started watching Приключения Шерлока Холмса и доктора Ватсона. So far, I have only seen episode one. But I love it already. I can't wait to see their friendship develop and all that!
I also can't wait to see how they adapted some of the stories I already know and which ones they are. As there are only eleven episodes.
I was surprised when they decided to make their first case together to be The Adventure of the Speckled Band. I read this story years ago in my literature class and really liked it. I have also already seen it in Granada Holmes. It made me happy to see it adapted in this version of Sherlock Holmes as well.
Hopefully, it won't take me too long to finish this adaptation. But as I know myself, that might happen.

Just learned about the existence of this poem written by Vincent Starrett in 1942. I'm always so happy when I can learn more about the Sherlockian fandom and discover more of Sherlockiana.

MYCROFT INTERLUDE - an imagined conversation between Holmes and Mycroft in 1888, after the events of the Greek Interpreter, when Watson and Mycroft meet for the first time. I was thinking about the 1885 Labouchere Amendment and Mycroft being protective of his younger brother.

Here's the thing. Watson is a known unreliable narrator. He talks about Holmes being "emotionless" in reference to his lack of attraction to women. This was written at a time when disinterest in "romance" was implicitly disinterest in the opposite sex, thus often used as code for being gay. His alleged lack of feeling in general is frequently shown to be obviously untrue in any other context. He laughs so loud on a regular basis he's clearly a kind person who wants to help people even if he sometimes comes across as blunt he gets excited about his interests etc etc etc. Conclusion? Well...
