Look, I KNOW that SJM writing how Elain looks awful in black, like it leeched the colour from her, is meant to signify that she doesn't belong in the Night Court, but like, imagine it's ACTUALLY foreshadowing that Lucien is going to die in Elucien's book, and so Elain will start wearing black dresses, which leech any life and vibrancy away from her (the opposite of Day Court dresses, I'm guessing), because she would be in mourning. Wow, now THAT would be great foreshadowing!
(And a great villlain origin arc, if you ask me - If SJM had the right creativity at the right time, maybe we could have had a plot twist that Meave from ToG was actually once from Prythian and she was known as Elain).

I've seen Elriels claiming that Lucien is jealous of Jurian when he says that Jurian and Vassa are at each others throats 'sharply', but like IMAGINE how uncomfortable it must be for him to be listening in on Jurian and Vassa flirting CONSTANTLY, not to mention that, AGAIN, he's thirdwheeling, just like with Tamlin and Feyre, and we both know how the last friendship he had with his two friends ended up like because they got involved romantically and then broke up.

It's fine, Gwynriels can have the next book as long as we Eluciens get the last book of the series - not only because Elucien is the best couple but also because the day that its going to come out on will be the one that stes me free from ACOTAR and SJM. Hurray!

For me it's the fact that BOTH Elain and Lucien were about to get married before Graysen broke off their engagement and abandoned her and Jesminda got murdered that gets me so in my feels, because both Elain and Lucien have been in love before, and both times it didn't work out.
Some may say that it was their fate to never have met Graysen and Jesminda, to never have fallen in love with them because Elain and Lucien were meant to be together from the start, but I adore the fact that we will FINALLY have two characters who KNOW what a healthy and unhealthy relationship is like, and just have them fall in love all over again, and this time they BOTH live.

The fact that there are people who TRULY believe that Feysand AREN'T going to become High King and Queen in the end is WILD to me.
SJM is making Rhys claim that he doesn't wish to be king BECAUSE she is going to make him king, and because he doesn't 'wish it', other characters are going to see Feysand as noble and kind and good because they 'sacrificed their happiness for the good of Prythian', which is the biggest lie EVER, but there is just no way that she's going to let any other pair become THAT MUCH MORE POWERFUL THAN FEYSAND.
Even though other characters would fit the High King and Queen much more than Feysand - Lucien would make a GREAT High king, and for some reason I always saw him, a Fae, being a High King and Vassa, a human, becoming his High Queen and uniting the faeces and humans through either their friendship or marriage (yes, I do ship Elucien, but it's too much of a 'happily ever after' ending if BOTH Elain and Lucien become High King and Queen, plus I feel like both Jassa and Elucien would be aware of their responsibilities andnot minding it cause they're besties).
It's just too bad that SJM is in love with Rhysand and is a shit writer.

Sarah J Mass just being the GREATEST Author ever
SJM: Makes Feyre interact with Helion about thrice in ACOWAR
Also SJM: Makes them besties who 'missed each other' in ACOSF, which is like barely two years after ACOWAR
SJM: Redeems Tamlin by making him save Rhysand at end of ACOWAR and by having him tell Feyre to 'be happy'
Also SJM: Continues to make Tamlin the punching bag of Rhys and Feyre, and even gets Nesta involved with it
SJM: Makes Elain and Lucien interact at the end of ACOWAR
Also SJM: Makes Elain avoid Lucien out of nowhere in ACOFAS and ACOSF (what was the point in her speaking to him if the whole plan was to have her NOT speak to him in the first place?)
SJM: Makes Cassian have a rant about having a 'sex only' relationship with Nesta
Also SJM: Makes Cassian mention Nesta ONLY if it concerns her large breasts or her ass, or the great sex that they have.
Bonus -
SJM: Writes how Vassa spoke normally to Feyre at the end of ACOWAR to end her curse and how she demanded help
Also SJM: "I had not forgotten her plea to me after the last battle with Hybern" Feyre Archeron said in ACOFAS

Is it just me who hates the theory that Eris is ALSO Helion's biological child? Because not only does it make Eris becoming the next High Lord of Autumn stupid, it also reinforces the idea that Eris is ONLY a decent male BECAUSE his 'biological father' is one, and that children can't grow up to be better than their evil biological parents.
It's probably why I hate the theory that Gwyn is related to Eris as well (his great grandaughter or something) because it will undermine her overall achievements with the Blood Rite and her becoming a Valkyrie - when people meet her, they won't talk about her personal achievements, but about her being a princess of Autumn, and this just annoys me, because it reinforces the idea that people can ONLY be relevant to the story if they are somehow related to royalty. It WOULD be cool though to have a character that for ONCE throws their royal parentage away and chooses not be a part of that life and to continue onto the path that they made for themselves, and not one that was given.
Plus, we have this whole Beron-LoA-Helion royal parentage trope with Lucien already, and it would be very repetitive.
Which is why I love Jurian, because he's just this normal guy whose only royal connection is to Vassa, and that's ONLY because he may have some feelings for her.

Do we actually know whether Lucien was close to his mother? Because I can imagine Beron hiding him away from LoA as punishment for her affair.

"the most compelling love stories are the ones that are irrational, that don't make any sense, that defy every expectation and status quo. In fact, they're the only ones that get told because no one cares about a relationship with no passion, that follows all the rules. That's boring and there's no reason to get invested in the story of two people making completely rational choices 24/7."
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT
the tea is so hot, thank you 🍵👑💅
also you can see that it's smth grrm supports. there are so many love stories that are irrational but also realistic and that's why so often tragic. rhaegar and lyanna, basically all of egg's kids, aegon the conqueror and rhaenys, jaehaerys and alysanne, etc. all of them when against the world's against the rules, against the status quo. some won, some not, yet they risked it all the same bc it was worth it for them and the narrative does support it. what kind of bullshit this story and even world building itself it would be if everyone was all abt "fAmIlY, dUtY, hOnOr" 24/7??? humans don't work like that lmao, and no one wants some dumb "jaehaerys ii rlx mf celia Tully 💀" bullshit. even naerys and aemon who did not risk it all and bowed to damn status quo FAILED in the end. it doesn't matter if they made this sacrifice for the sake of others, chose to be "not selfish" (using the rhetoric of this deranged fandom). they suffered and died and saw no happiness whatsoever in the end anyway, so why the fuck we as readers should nod and say that everyone must've done this?
fandom septas and cultists can go cry me a river, i will watch them sacrificing their own happiness bc somehow fighting for love = selfishness (or being a wh*re 💀💀💀) before making such bullshit claims first.
p.s.: stan house "we die for love" targaryen amen 👑
A FUCKING MEN 👏👏👏
God this, so much this!! GRRM lives for drama, excitement, passion, tragedy, deep emotion and most importantly, people who don't play by the rules. Our key five are the key five for a number of reasons, but a big one is they don't stick to the rules. They break them, they ignore them, they rewrite them all together. And this can be seen so clearly in the way he writes romantic relationships.
I was gonna bring up Aegon and Rhaenys cause it's the first example, but maybe one of the more subtle ones. The relationship doesn't immediately cause any huge problems, but it's still not the done thing:
By tradition, he was expected to wed only his older sister, Visenya; the inclusion of Rhaenys as a second wife was unusual, though not without precedent. It was said by some that Aegon wed Visenya out of duty and Rhaenys out of desire.
And theirs is the love story people care about. And Rhaenys' death causes such a Jon-Snow-like reaction from Aegon it's almost painful to read about. Desire, passion, tragedy. It's all there.
Rhaegar and Lyanna are obvious. The love story that almost defines ASOIAF, that set so many events in action. Tragic, passionate, risking it all. Lyanna is proven right by the narrative too, as Robert as a husband is so exactly what she described and Cersei's arranged marriage is so fucking awful, no wonder Lyanna ran away. Such a wealth of examples like them, Barristan gives a great run down in ADWD:
Prince Rhaegar loved his Lady Lyanna, and thousands died for it. Daemon Blackfyre loved the first Daenerys, and rose in rebellion when denied her. Bittersteel and Bloodraven both loved Shiera Seastar, and the Seven Kingdoms bled. The Prince of Dragonflies loved Jenny of Oldstones so much he cast aside a crown, and Westeros paid the bride price in corpses. All three of the sons of the fifth Aegon had wed for love, in defiance of their father’s wishes. And because that unlikely monarch had himself followed his heart when he chose his queen, he allowed his sons to have their way, making bitter enemies where he might have had fast friends. Treason and turmoil followed, as night follows day, ending at Summerhall in sorcery, fire, and grief.
It's sad, but the focus is all on these love stories. They loved, and there were consequences. But damn it, they loved, and they followed their hearts, they lived and died without the regret of 'what if'. And ain't that just beautiful? For an in-series example, I look to Robb and Jeyne. It was not a smart decision, we are hit over the head with that time and time again. And there was something of honour in it. But you can't deny they had passion. And Robb's other option, another arranged marriage- I would take Jeyne over that any day. Jeyne loved him so much she fights for the crown he gave her after his death. He still lingers. It's sad, but they loved too. I do think Robb said it best. In fact, he may have just summed up one of the key points of the entire series:
"Love's not always wise, I've learned. It can lead us to great folly, but we follow our hearts . . . wherever they take us. Don't we, Mother?"
And it isn't always sad either! Jaehaerys and Alysanne, the 'good' king and queen, were just as defiant and wilful as they're predecessors and successors.
But like many such arrangements through the ages, their plan was soon undone, for they grievously underestimated the will and determination of Alysanne Targaryen herself, and her young king, Jaehaerys. [...] Like his sister, Jaehaerys did not waste time with reproaches, recriminations, or appeals. Instead he acted.
And Aemon and Naerys, ugh my favourite tragic beloveds. I do choose to believe that they had a relationship behind Aegon's back, and if they did they also defied the rules. But even if they didn't, as you say playing by them got them nowhere. It got Aemon killed. It made Naerys miserable and she died too. They are not praised for doing their duty, either, them doing the expected thing is framed as sad, that's literally the whole point. Not following their hearts was fucking sad, it made their story a tragedy, Aegon is remembered as, to put it lightly, the worst and Aemon and Naerys got nothing out of doing their duty but pain. We are not supposed to applaud that, we're supposed to wish it had gone differently.
I will stan House "we die for love" Targaryen all day every day because, damn they really are the most iconic house for a reason. This reason.

@pscentral event 17: vibrance ↳ POLYAMORY COLOURS: Jon/Daenerys/Arya/Aegon
On the Seventh day of the Seventh month of the year 307 AC, House Targaryen united with House Stark in a double wedding between Queen Daenerys to Jon Stark and Prince Aegon to Arya Stark. That these were love matches is not in doubt. But rumors of a deeper love extending between the four of them can be disregarded as nothing more than rumor.

Not trying to be rude, but to me, it's very discouraging when trying to read about a new couple and a new series and other people are all hyping up the previous main couple, in the NEW couples book. Like, I LOVE Jude and Cardan, but hyping them up in another couples series dehypes the other couple, which is Oak and Suren.

Preach! Almost 90% of the fans are simply reading this book for Jude and Cardan, but this book is about them, it's about Suren and Oak! They have the potential to become greater than Jurdan, and I think its very biased when people say that Jude could beat Suren. Jude may have her swords, but Suren has MAGIC.
suren, my girl, you better fix this mess before jude comes at you. you will have 0% chances at survival.

I feel like people who compare Joffrey and Aegon ii are COMPLETELY missing the point and are just biased towards rhaenyra because of dany, and they WISH that Aegon was like Joffrey so that they could have a GOOD reason to hate on him and preach how badass rhaenyra is or something.
Joffrey never desired anyone sexually, whilst Aegon did. Joffrey never cared for his mother's approval, and Aegon did. Joffrey was cruel outwardly, whilst Aegon simply jested and made jokes without cruelty in private. Joffrey desired to be king, whilst Aegon tried to run away from being a king.
And the whole 'Aegon will make a terrible king' thing doesn't really make sense to me, because if you've read the fire and blood book, then you are COMPLETELY aware that both Aegon and Rhaenyra were terrible rulers, even though their lives were different.
For one, Aegon was never named as his father's heir, so there was really no reason that he would WANT to be a good king and study to be a good king. Its why he spends his time whoring and drinking, because its what he enjoys and since he isn't going to be a king, why should he act like one?
Rhaenyra, on the other hand, learned that she was her father's heir, and yet she did nothing to learn how politics works (otherwise, she wouldn't have had bastard children) and just sulked about how her own action have bitten her in the ass. She had at least 16 years on Aegon AND she is the heir, and yet she never bothered to learn about politics and such. Why? Because, like Criston Cole said, she's a spoiled princess who only does something when it benefits her.
