this did not fully register the first time i read it because i didn't know those weirdos well enough but the way that paul literally walks directly from the front door of the school to the room lucy's in, throws the door open, and then goes like 'oh it's the english woman, i know who that is and am definitely just now recognizing her and wasn't already thinking of her or explicitly seeking her out..... well i guess i might as well ask her now that i'm here....' to himself like what possible other intention could he have had for being there 😭. that was a man with a plan. that was a man on a mission.
