i really enjoy headcanon of billy being younger than he looks. it’s not just his looks at this point, it’s his attitude that blossomed because everyone treated him older, like an adult…so he acts like it too. only in some moments is when others can tell that billy is young. when they let him be himself and when they treat him his age.

Billy always put on a brave face for his kids because he wants them be brave themselves. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t cry in front of them. He cries when he is happy and he tells them that, he cries when he gets sad and he tell them that. Billy wants them to be open about his emotions with him.
But its not like that when their grandfathers comes to visit for the first time. He thinks that because he hasn’t seen his father in a good while it may be different. And it is. But Billy is consumed by the fear of doing anything wrong. He is so consumed by that he couldn’t understand how quick it went. He found himself closing the door and exhaustions taking over him completely. His kids surround him confused at why their daddy is on the floor. And its when the youngest starts crying that brings Billy back. Its only then he realizes has been crying this whole time. He pulls his kids into his arms and holds them. His oldest is kissing his head and telling him that “everything is going to be okay, dad,” “don’t be scared, everything is okay” like he does to them when they are crying or scared.

"you've changed..." steve felt stupid saying that. it got a chuckle out of billy.
"parenthood changes you, who would have guessed." there is this sly grin on his face but his eyes were soft. steve noticed how soft they had gone he could barely recognize them. "i used to always have cigarettes in my car. now i have diapers, wipes, and snuggles."
he laughs and steve tries to laugh as well. with this billy puts the white light blanket over his shoulder and leaned on his knees to reach down to the baby and softly touched him. the baby didn't budge that's how gentle billy was.
"they change you. for the better...at least for me." steve just watches. a part of him couldn't comprehend seeing billy hargrove like. but the other part of him squeezed his heart.
billy has the life he wanted. it may have been unplanned, an accident still- billy didn't pack his bags and leave. max told them billy has a good job as a mechanic at a well-established car company. he had a house, even if billy said it was small (they have a beach in their backyard). he has kids.
"your kids-" billy looks at him, "they-they're great kids, hargrove." billy smiles at him, but it's a smile steve was sure wasn't directed at him. billy is smiling at the thought of his kids.
"they are."
steve wonders if you can have a midlife crisis at the age of 25.

Billy was on the pay phone, feeling grumpy as ever with Steve on the other line. “I thought you were going to come to Hawkins.”
“I told you El asked me to stay so I stayed,” Billy repeats, the colorful lights and walls are starting to get on his nerves. “It’s not like I don’t want to see you.” Fuck, why did he say that? Billy closes his eyes rubbing his temples.
“Sure feels like it.” Steve grumbles from the other line. Billy chews on his bottom lip.
“El is having a hard time, okay? She needs me.” He grumbles, he leans against the wall opposite of the pay phone.
“Max misses you, she doesn’t say it but I can tell.” Steve says after a moment of quietness. “I don’t get why you left…Neil is gone.” Billy doesn’t get why Steve doesn’t understand. Hawkins barely means anything to Billy and when he got the chance to go back to California…
“Steve, I don’t want to talk about it again…” he mutters quietly.
“I miss you.” Steve confesses and Billy holds the phone closer to his ear. He wants to say it back he really does but its stuck in his throat.
“You’re coming to my graduation right?” Billy asks because Steve could have come to California too and he didn’t. So he doesn’t get it why Steve is so upset.
“Of course I will.” Billy smiles at the answer; he really couldn’t wait for graduation to be finally done with school and that would mean he could get a full time job. He could get his own place and maybe with time Steve could move in too. He turns to look at the skate ring seeing a crowd on it and from it El is hurrying away looking rather upset.
“Shit!” Billy mutters, “look, Steve, I gotta go. I love you.” He hangs up before Steve can reply and he goes after El.

Harringrove for Turkey
Hello everyone! This fandom has come together multiple times before to help raise money for various worthy causes. I am hoping we can do so once again to raise money for Turkey.
Here are three causes specifically pointed out by @prettyboybillyhargrove who is from Turkey and can vouch that these charities are legit:
Disaster Tents Donations
Search and Rescue Association
Isbank of Turkey (I'm so sorry, I used Google translate for this because the site is in Turkish)
The White Helmets (This charity is also supporting the Syrian aid response)
Similar to Harringrove for Ukraine, I am not setting time limits on anyone. I know I am super busy right now, but still want to help. So if you, creators, think you'll have time in the next few months- maybe consider joining and negotiating with your donor about a timeframe!

“The kids aren’t at my mother’s or at Joyce’s place.” Nancy says in a matter of fact. “Their at home.” This makes Steve frown.
“You guys hired a nanny?” Steve asks.
Jonathan shakes his head finishing the food in his mouth. Nancy continues to answer Steve’s question.
“No, we already had him hired. The pool guy” This makes Steve set down his fork.
“The guy who cleans your pools?” Nancy takes a drink so Jonathan answers.
“Look he’s good at his jobs and the kids.” Jonathan sighs rubbing his forehead. “Sometimes we’ll pay him extra to stay with the kids and we pay him extra to teach them how to swim.”
Steve blinks.
“He’s knows how to talk to kids.” Nancy adds.
“Rather stranger because he talks to them like little soldiers.”
“I think his father is veteran.”
“Did he ever tell you that?”
“No-“
“You can’t just make assumptions-“
“He’s so precise with his cleaning and you said it yourself the way he speaks to the kids.”
“You guys hired him to teach the kids how to swim?” Steve interrupts staring at them with big eyes and the couple eyes turn sympathetic.
“Look Steve, we know you said you wanted do it.”
“But you never seem to have the time for it.” Nancy ends Jonathan sentence and the man nods his head. “It was time for them to learn.”
Steve looks down at his plate, unfinished yet he still feels like he isn’t going to be able to finish it. “Fuck I hate my job.” He finally says breaking the silence. The couple lets out a breath and they smile at Steve.
“I keep telling you about the opening at my firm,” Nancy points out and Steve has to hold himself back from cringing.
“Yeah, I know, I know.”
Jonathan glances at his wife before back at Steve. “You should meet him.”
“Your pool guy slash swim teacher slash nanny?”
Nancy snorts taking a sip from her wine.
“Yeah, he’s a nice guy I’m sure he’s nice enough to let you spend time with the kids when he’s there…?” Jonathan has a reassuring smile then looks at his wife. Nancy looks at her husband with furrowed brows before shaking her head.
“Of course, of course! I’m sure he wouldn’t mind that.” She’s smiling now, a bit more painfully.
Steve’s shoulders sagged, “Sure I can do that.” He looks down at his food again before reaching for his own glass of wine. “Whats his name anyways?”
“Billy Hargrove.”
