My mom wants everything to go back to the way things were. When it was “peaceful”. She cannot comprehend that this shit did not start on October 7th nor that Palestinians didn’t start it. Even if I say “Was the Warsaw uprising an unjustified terror attack, then?” and she’ll say “No it was defensive” and then try to get her to make the teeny tiny jump, she cannot do it. It is so frustrating because yes, we both want an end to the violence. The difference is she, like too much of the rest of the world, would condemn Palestinians to go back to dying quietly. Can I tell you what? I am so done with the Greek myths fad. I’m so bored of all of them. The “adaptations” are primarily “enemies to lovers, Hades and Persephone uwu”. The Classically-set retellings are poorly paced fragments and read like the dustiest, crustiest 19th-century translation for all they’re meant to be “feminist” or “queer”. None of them are weird. None of them examine the structures at play within ancient/classical literature and how this relates to current events or reinterpretations of themes. I don’t want to read how “actually, these sources are super feminist” - they’re not, but that doesn’t mean women aren’t important. “Queerness was fine!” - in certain circumstances, which you have failed to interpret and just gone with what queer acceptance means in 2024. I’m so bored, y’all?
