The Skyscraper
They were standing on the top of the skyscraper looking down on the city and enjoying the clouds that passed by still high above them. There was silence between them and you could hear the light whistling of the wind. While he was standing there savoring the feeling of nearly being able to touch the sky, she was lost in her thoughts. Remembering the past year she felt grateful for the path she had walked and for the new experiences she had made, even when some things didn’t go like she wanted. She was grateful for the woman she had become.
“You changed me!” she declared suddenly, breaking the silence. He looked at her, “No, I did not!” he exclaimed. She looked at him questioning eyes and he continued, “You were the one to change yourself. You yourself. You saw the possibilities you have. The many directions you could go. It was you who chose. If you wouldn’t want to change, no one would have the least chance to change you. And while I was simply accompanied you on your way, leaving to you the choice of change or not, deep down long ago your heart already longed for it, screamed for that change. That kind of change that would bring you to the real you.”
And while he looked up to a cloud he said, “I did nothing. The you right now is your work, your creation. You chose the direction and you chose your actions. You decided to listen to your souls calling complying with its continuous desire for change. Allowing yourself to find on the way who you truly are.” He looked her in the eyes while she listened attentively “I did nothing. You did it all. Your life is your responsibility and no one can ever decide or change it for you.”
And with a smile he told her “You changed yourself.”
