this one liberal dude on twitter made the (correct) take that parents have overwhelming power over their kids and very often abuse it and restrict children's rights and he was ratio'd by conservatives, communists and liberals alike who made comments like "my kids will have rights when they pay the bills" to "aw are you upset mom and dad didn't you get you a lega set for christmas". way to prove his point lol! any criticism of the power dynamics adults and particularly parents have over kids and how it is often used to abuse kids or refuse to let them exist as themselves is drowned in mockery and the idea that parents have absolute authority over children and that any less than that is actually spoiling them.
i said it before: people only care about Children as an ideal. as property. as something that is Innocent and deserving protection From Evil Traffickers but also something Dumb that barely deserves the status of human with autonomy. and its fucking wild how even the staunchest communists think of this as normal, and how people refuse to understand that this dynamic is how kids are emotionally, physically and sexually abused, as well as robbed of their voices and too scared/ashamed to talk about it.

Try, and talk, and argue, but at the end you believe what you wanna believe. No one’s forcing you, there’s no truth, you just do because you want to. Because you need to. Because you do.
It doesn’t matter how much you think you are in the right, they think the same as well, and yet it seems you are the only one who suffers the consequences. You are the only one who has to sleep every night knowing what it means to be respected, but not really accepted. You are free to be your own person, but the choice that brings you some joy will never be good in the eyes of them. You are wrong, but it’s your right to be wrong.
So you cry silently at you pillow, you can’t complain. You are free, after all, to live your life. But do you remember when i got yelled for getting less then 90% on a test? Do you remember when i put on my favorite dress and you thought I didn’t care enough to look good to see you? Or all the times I wasn’t feminine enough, happy enough, mentally well enough, getting the grades you wanted me to get? You don’t tell me any of that anymore, sometimes you even tell me the opposite. Relax, you can’t know everything, be everything, do everything to please others. But how do you undue years of craving a perfection i can never have? How do i become my own person after constantly being denied that very right?
How do i feel less unloved? How do i feel enough?
But again, I cry. Because nothing is wrong, but it doesn’t hurt any less as if the weight was still there. And yet you squint your eyes, focus on what does work...

I agree, one-hundred percent. I’ve actually waited a while to answer this while i compile evidence and i think i finally have enough….here we go!
First off, and this is the main thing I’m going to talk about: athena experiences EXTREME hyperempathy, to the degree it’s debilitating (at least as a child)
We can even see this in a milder form in some scenes, for example:
Because of her issues with being essentially an emotional sponge, metis cykes dedicated her research to helping her daughter live an easier life. I don’t have screencaps for this but i do remember it being mentioned in turnabout for tomorrow
Metis even made special headphones for her daughter. They heavily resemble noise-cancelling headphones or ear defenders, though these are specifically for blocking out emotions, but tangentially that includes sound, I guess:
….however, some dialogue hints that she might have some sound sensitivities too:
She also has a special interest in the shipshape aquarium show (and psychology, i assume. Though that’s really just a given at this point):
There are other smaller things such as volume control issues (akin to apollo’s), stimming, etc that I didn’t mention, but yeah. Athena’s autistic, and i would say it’s pretty much canon at this point
