zuko cuddles 🫶🏻
It had been a long day for everyone. Azula finding you all at the air temple and forcing you to evacuate. Once you had set up camp, you wandered off to go find something to eat while the others did some variant of a chore.
You cooked, laughed together and everything was good for a while. Then you realized as you were setting up your tent that there wasn't enough room for everybody. Katara decided to share with Toph and Suki decided she didn't want to be stuck with Aang and her boyfriend all night so she joined them too. That left you and Zuko with the last tent because everybody else was weary of him and Sokka had already closed off his tent.
Aang pulled you aside and asked, "Are you sure you're okay with this?"
"Yeah," You said, "There's no reason to not use our third tent and I don't want you or the girls to feel crowded."
Then, everybody had settled in, saying their goodnights and sweet dreams and it was just you and Zuko, alone.
Nervously, you smiled at him and asked if he'd like to help you set up the tent. He of course said yes and rushed forward trying to help. It only took a few minutes to realize that the former prince had no idea how to make a tent and you let him sit down as you built it.
"Sorry.." He murmured and you threw a soft smile at him over you shoulder.
"it's okay. I work best by myself anyway." You lifted up the tent door and motioned for him to go in.
You made your bed and then helped him make his gingerly and then curled up, trying to fall asleep. Like always, your luck was against your will. The fire had already been put out and a cold breeze was setting in. Your body heat quickly succumbed to the cold and small shivers racked you.
Looking behind you, you noticed two things. One was that Zuko was already looking at you with those intense gold eyes and two was that he was shivering as well. Well, you'd already been caught so you just rolled over to your side completely and gave him a shaky smile.
"Hey." You offered.
"Hey." He replied.
"You cold?" You asked.
"A little. You?" He supplied.
"Yeah." You said and then there was silence. You tried to think of something to say but most of it was nonsense. Luckily, he spoke.
"We could maybe light the fire again?"
You shook your head, "Aang gets nervous with it lit when we're asleep, Katara too."
"Oh..." He got that cute, thinking face on and pondered the options for a second. With a shaky voice, he said, "Well, I could try to warm you up a little.. you know, with my fire bending?"
Your teeth chattered as you giggled, "Yeah, I assumed... Sure, if you're okay with it?"
He nodded and you scooted your sleeping bag closer until you were a breath away. He gave you an awkward smile and let his hands become warm. Tentatively, he slipped them under your sleeping bag and rubbed them up your bare arms. Immediately, warmth filled your body and you subconsciously scooted closer with a sigh.
it was hard to tell in the dark but you thought you saw a blush on his cheeks. Slowly he moved his hands to your shoulder blades and then on your neck and sides. It was hard to tell when it happened but at some point between him warming up your biceps and your back, you gotten so close, your breath could be felt on his neck.
It made him nervous. Not only because of the times in the past he'd tried to kill you and how forgiving you were being but because with you this close, he could see all your beauty magnified. Your eyelashes trembled on closed eyes, lips stuttered and nose twitched. You were ethereal in the dim blue light of the moon shinning through holes in the tent. It was almost too much for him.
Then he noticed your breath had evened out. it was slower and smoother. You had fallen asleep practically in his arms. Just as he was about to retreat his hands, yours wrapped around his neck and settled on the nape. You were so close, so soft and gentle even In your sleep. Your fingers brushed the short hair as you let out small snores and held him so his chest was to yours.
The thing that really took his breath away was when your legs wove in-between his and your toes kissed his calves. Zuko might have died and gone to heaven. The prettiest person he'd ever met was curled up in his arms and sighing hot wisps of air over him.
Then you mumbled his name gently and squirmed a little, your nose tucked up in his collar bones and he felt himself swoon. How ever would he be able to face you tomorrow?

Zuko x reader - the right side
Tumblr media
Hi! I just recently discovered your blog and I’ve been loving your writing so much! I would like to request a part two to your Zuko x Reader - The Right Side. It’s so well done and I’m curious to see what happens after Zuko and the reader reconnect :) - Anon💜
Part two:
He slowly stood up and stepped out from the group, he looked at you, and you stared at him intently. It made him shiver the way you looked at him.
Your gaze was so full of fury, hatred, sadness, betrayal.
So many things Zuko thought he would never see in your eyes again, he never thought it would ever be directed at him.
“Why are you here?” You spat.
“I’m here to help, I swear. I want to teach Aang Fire bending.” He said
You scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest as you carried on gazing at him.
Zuko gulped a little as he dared to take a small step forward, and then another.
He kept going until you kicked your leg out, sending a line of fire directly in his path which he barely managed to dodge.
“(Y/N) don’t!” Aang rushed out.
You turned to Aang, frowning heavily but you lowered your hands and took a few steps towards the avatar.
You were furious with Zuko, and they all knew it.
“Go calm down.” Katara whispered.
“Come on, I’ll come with you.” Toph said.
She led you a way from everyone and Zuko watched in sadness as you left.
“She hates me…” he mumbled.
“She doesn’t hate you, she just needs time, that’s all.” Katara smiled.
“Yeah, (Y/N) can’t hate anyone, trust me!” Aang beamed.
Zuko looked over at them then turned to Sokka who gave a small shrug.
“I’ll be honest, she could hate you. You nearly killed her, betrayed her and just left her. She’s pretty mad man.”
“Sokka!” Katara hissed.
“No, no. I need to hear the truth.” Zuko said softly.
Zuko left, and for the rest of the night no one saw him, or you or Toph.
The earth bender came back before you, saying that you decided to head back to your room last night and she decided to go to bed, but she hadn’t heard from you since then.
Everything went to hell pretty quickly, from the killer Zuko hired showing up, and Azula appearing out of nowhere you guys had to fight for your lives to get out.
And you decided to sit up with Aang away from the fire Prince.
“Just talk to him.” Aang spoke softly.
“Not a chance.”
“(Y/N) he’s really trying. He feels bad for what he did and he wants to apologise, the first step to moving forward is to forgive.”
“I love you Aang, but you’re to oblivious to how to world works. It’s all good and well to pretend everything can be fixed with a simply apology but it can’t.”
Aang sighed, turning to look at you.
“You’re right, it can’t. But it’s a start, right? It will be great to be able to take some of that weight from your shoulders and throw it away. No one says you have to talk to him after that, you just have to hear him out.”
“I’m sorry Aang, but no.”
Even as you guys landed, he tried to keep convincing you to talk to Zuko, but you weren’t having it.
Sokka and Toph had asked asked you to just listen to what Zuko had to say, though Toph’s only reason was so she didn’t have to hear him complaining about it anymore.
Katara came over and sat next to you on the rock you had perched yourself on.
“If you’re here to tell me to forgive Zuko don’t bother.”
“I’m not.”
You turned to her slightly shocked.
“I understand why you’re angry, why you don’t want to talk to him or forgive him. You don’t have to do anything you’re not comfortable with.”
“Thanks Katara.” You smiled.
She nodded and left, and you carried on looking out over the horizon.
Someone else sat next to you and immediately you stood up and started to walk away.
“Please! I’ll do anything! Just let me explain!” He begged.
“You want me to listen to you? Fine. I challenge you to an Agni kai.” You snapped.
“No!” Aang yelled.
The trio rushed over, trying to stop what was about to happen.
“If that’s what you want then okay. I accept.” Zuko nodded.
No one could stop this, they knew the rules, they couldn’t stop it, they couldn’t help either of you, they just had to watch it play out.
And they knew there was only so many outcomes.
Either you hurt Zuko bad enough for him to feel your pain, or you would be so blinded but your anger for him you would try your best to kill him.
You and Zuko stood opposite each other, and you stripped yourself of Iroh’s cloak before handing it to Katara to look after.
“Please go easy.” She whispered.
Saying nothing, you stepped back in front of Zuko, and he just stared at you.
You threw the first attack, pushing your hands forward to create a massive surge of flames straight at the Prince.
He easily deflected your attack, and carried on standing there, so you attacked again.
Kicking your leg in the air you sent attack after attack after attack.
All of which he deflected.
“Fight me you coward!” You yelled.
“No.”
You yelled and ran over to him, attempting to punch him but he dodged it, and so you tried to knock his legs from under him, but he dodged that as well.
“Fight me!”
“No! I won’t hurt you!” He yelled.
Zuko breathed heavily as he dodged your attacks.
Usually you were so well coordinated, you thought your attacks out carefully that you were able to knock him down easily.
But this time you were so blinded by your emotions that you were just attacking blindly, you were messy and desperate.
“Why won’t you fight me!?”
“Because I refuse to hurt you!”
Zuko grabbed your arm as you lunged at him, spinning you around so you were behind him and let go.
You stumbled a few steps and turned around.
You were heaving for air, hands on your knees as your eyes locked with his.
“Why not? You already have, May as well finish the job right?” You sneered.
“N..no.. no that’s not what I want…”
You scoffed, rolling your eyes as you turned around and started to walk away.
“Fine.”
Zuko sighed with relief, as did everyone else.
The battle was over, Zuko never once threw an attack, and you had finally called it off as you started to walk away.
In a split second, you spun around, kicking your leg up in the air, you sent a rope of fire at Zuko.
He barely managed to dodge it thanks to everyone calling his name, and he fell to the floor.
Running over, you took a deep breath and stared down at him as you stood above him.
Slowly you raised your hand towards the sky, crackling sounding at the tips of your fingers, and blue lightening started to build up.
“(Y/N) NO!” Sokka yelled.
“DONT!” Aang and Katara begged.
Toph tried to put up a wall between you and the Prince but she couldn’t, you were stood right over him, and she couldn’t put the earth between you both.
Zuko looked between you and the lightening in pure horror.
For you to do this it meant that you were sound of mind, you knew what you were doing, and you knew exactly what it was you were about to do as well.
As you stared at Zuko, you could register the fear in his eyes, the fear and regret.
The same thing you felt on that night he had attacked you, the pure fear running through your veins.
You had promised yourself you would never hurt anyone, you swore to yourself that you would protect people and keep them safe.
“If you want to do this… then that’s okay…” Zuko whispered.
You pointed your other hand at him, the charge was nearly finished.
Zuko gave you a sad and broken smile.
“Tell uncle I’m sorry…”
He closed his eyes and something in your snapped.
There was a loud crash, and everyone slowly opened their eyes to see what horror waited before them.
The trees in front of you had been blow down, a small fire in the centre where the blast was aimed.
You had fallen to your knees over Zuko.
He was still pinned below you, your knees rested on the dirt and you had your head cast down.
Zuko flinched when he felt something fall on his face, and he opened his eyes when he felt it again.
His eyes gazed up at yours, watching as the tears slowly slipped free as you stared at him in pure horror.
His heart pounded in his chest, his breathing was ragged and he was shaking.
Your tears fell on his face as you slowly fell to the side, resting your hands in your knees as you bowed your head down to hide your face.
“I’m.. I’m a monster…” you chocked out.
You swore you’d never hurt anyone, you’d protect people and keep them safe.
And out of pure, unresolved emotion you nearly killed Zuko.
You nearly killed a person.
A person you once trusted with your very life, a person who you had grown up with and whom you loved with your whole heart.
And he nearly died by your very hand.
Slowly Zuko sat up, turned to look behind him at what was left of the trees before he turned to you.
He reached out and hesitated, then finally reached out fully, placing his hand on your head before he quickly pulled you into him.
You wrapped your arms around Zuko, all the hatred and anger you felt was gone, you were scared, upset, ashamed.
Your fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt as you cried into his shoulder.
He held you tightly against his chest, burying his face into your neck as he let a few tears slip free.
Aang and Katara ushered Sokka and Toph away, leaving the pair of you alone.
The worst of it was over now, whatever happened now was up to whatever you and Zuko decided to do about what had happened on that night

Zuko x reader - the right side
Tumblr media
Looking at the fire nation Prince, then back at the group on the other side of you, your heart raced in your chest.
“Zuko you can’t hurt them.” You said softly.
“Move out of the way (Y/N).” He snapped.
You shook your head as you turned to fully face him, holding your arms out in order to try block his view on any of them.
They slowly backed away, leaving you and Zuko alone so they could try and get away.
“(Y/N) move!” Zuko yelled.
“No! This isn’t what you’re supposed to do Zuko! You can’t kill the avatar!” You yelled.
“I have to restore my honour! For my father! My nation!”
You shook your head as you lowered your arms, slowly walking over to him you placed your hand on the side of your face.
Just the tiniest bit Zuko leant into your touch, but he quickly snapped out of it and backed away.
“What about me?”
“You’re not of noble blood, you’re not important. Just another cog in the machine, and you’re in. My. Way!”
Zuko raised his arm, and you barely managed to deflect the fire he shot at you.
You were stunned, hurt, upset, angry.
“Zuko stop!”
“You’re a traitor to the fire nation!” He yelled.
Again he fire attack after attack after attack, and you couldn’t keep up, because one of them hit you in the chest, sending you flying backwards in to a tree.
You gasped, screaming in pain as you tried to pat out the fire on your clothes.
You gasped for air, trying to get up. But you couldn’t. You’d just fall back down.
“Nephew we must-“
Iroh stopped talking as he looked at you, then Zuko.
“What have you done?!” He hissed.
Iroh rushed over to you, placing his hands on your shoulder to stop you from moving, he looked at your wounds, then back at Zuko who fell to his knees.
“I don’t.. I didn’t… uncle I didn’t…”
Zuko could only stare in horror, watching as his uncle picked you up.
There was only one person who could save you, and he had no idea which way that you went.
He couldn’t tell Zuko though, he had to get Zuko out of here as well.
“Go back to the ship! I’ll… deal with this…”
“Uncle tell me… please don’t say…”
“Go!” Iroh yelled.
Zuko jumped, quickly nodding his head as he ran the other direction back to the ship and straight to his room where he quickly removed his armour.
He was replying that moment again and again and again in his mind, it was playing in slow motion. In a split second his rage got the best of him, he’s killed you.
Iroh rushed you into the forest, your breathing was ragged, and you were in and out of consciousness.
“I..Iroh.. I.. I..”
“Shush, don’t talk okay? You’ll be fine, just a few more moments.”
Iroh kept running with you in his arms, tears in his eyes.
Through his blurry vision he could see the faint flying bison, and he could see the group quickly getting ready to leave.
“Avatar!” He yelled, “wait! Help!”
They all stopped, and it was Aang that jumped back down, meeting Iroh halfway.
“Please.” Iroh begged.
“Katara! Katara we have to help her!” Aang yelled.
Katara rushed over and took a quick look at your wounds.
“Lay her down.”
Iroh did, taking of his cloak to put under your head, and he took a step back to let her work while everyone stood around watching.
“You must take her with you, please?”
“What? Why?!” Sokka huffed.
“My nephew mustn’t know, he needs time to learn, to control his temper, she won’t be safe so long as she keeps protecting you, she’s been made an enemy of the nation.”
Sokka and Aang shared a look, and finally they both nodded.
Iroh knelt down, brushing some hair from your face.
“Do not hate Zuko for this…” he whispered.
With that Iroh quickly rushed away.
Katara had healed your wounds as much as she could, and with some help she managed to get you on Appa and they quickly flew away.
Aang felt responsible, if they hadn’t have ran like you told them before Zuko found them you wouldn’t be on the brink of death.
Sokka and Katara felt the same thing as well.
They flew to a village and asked for someone to take them in while you healed, but as the weeks passed and you didn’t show any signs of getting better, they weren’t sure what else they could do.
“We can’t stay here, Aangs running out of time.” Sokka said.
“But we can’t leave her here either.” Katara sighed.
“You’re right, do you think it’s safe to keep travelling with her?” Aang asked.
“No, Zuko is closing in on us, but we can’t leave her here either.”
They spent the whole night debating it, and finally they decided it would be best to bring you with them until they could find a safe place and someone who can look after you.
After a few more nights of flying and searching, they set up camp, and while they were sitting around the fire they heard you shuffling about.
“Hey careful.” Sokka rushed.
He sat next to you, helping your weak form sit up, and you looked around afraid.
“It’s okay, you’re safe. Are you hungry?” Aang smiled.
He offered you some food that you inhaled, and you downed them water that Katara gave you.
“I..iroh… I… where’s…?”
You furrowed your brows as you tried to get your words out, but they would only come out as hoarse whispers.
“He asked us to take you with us, to keep you safe.” Katara said softly.
You just nodded sadly and looked down at you hands, and you noticed the blue clothes you were wearing and furrowed your brows even more.
“Sorry, yours were burned, Sokka and I pulled together what we had to spare so your shirt might be a bit big. But I changed you.” Katara smiled.
You nodded again, and she grabbed a bag and came over, pulling out some clothes and a cloak.
She set them in your lap, and let you bury your fingers into the fabric, slowly unfolding it to see the burned fabric.
“When we find a town or city that sells the right colours I can fix it for you.”
Looking at them, you slowly shook your head and took the clock instead, bringing it up to your chest as you held it.
“Do you want to keep wearing what you have on?” Sokka asked.
You gave a small nod.
“That’s cool! Katara can fix the size right?”
“Of course!”
You looked at them and they all smiled, but you didn’t smile back.
In fact, it took months for you to finally smile at them, at it was after Toph joined them that you smiled.
Katara fixed the size of your water nation clothes, but kept your fire nation ones as well just in case, and you kept Iroh’s cloak close by just in case you needed it.
You healed, and you started to train again, working out with Aang or Sokka, and practicing your fire bending alongside Toph or Katara while they practiced theirs.
You quickly fell into a smooth rhythm with them all, and it felt right. You were on the right side of history, though you were still picking up the pieces of what had happened.
One morning when Aang woke up, he saw you stood off in the distance, practicing some moves he had never seen before.
“What’s she doing?” Katara whispered as she sat up.
“I don’t know, she wakes up before us, so I think she’s been doing this every morning.”
The pair of them watched carefully and they stared in shock as lighting shot itself from you fingers and into a nearby cliff side, sending some rocks tumbling down.
They didn’t approach you, but as you came back over they watched you.
“You can lightening bend?” Aang asked.
“I’ve only just learned it, Iroh was teaching me when Zuko was away.”
They heard the sadness in your voice, and they didn’t press the matter any further.
Somehow every fight that they had with Zuko you weren’t there for it, and when it came to them going to the fire nation you stood there and shook your head.
“You have to come!” Toph huffed.
“I… I’m sorry.. but I’ll be a liability, everyone will know what I look like there. I’ll find somewhere to stay while I wait.”
“What about an air temple?” Aang asked.
“Huh?”
“Well it’ll take a few hours out of the journey but we can drop you off there, and then come back for you!” He beamed.
You agreed, it was the best option you guys had at this point. With the fire nation pinning the earth kingdom, Azula on your tail, there wasn’t anywhere else that you could go now.
So they help you buy as much stuff as you can, and finally they dropped you off with the promise they’d be back.
It was peaceful in the empty temple, away from all the people, away from the war.
You focused on yourself, making yourself stronger, healing what was broken and training day and night.
You practiced everything, hand to hand, sword, fire, lightening, breathing techniques to keep yourself warm.
You were meditating when the gang returned to the air temple, this time with a few more people, but you didn’t notice straight away, you stayed there for another hour before you finally opened your eyes.
“There’s more.” You noted.
Sokka laughed and he introduced everyone, and you happily got along with them.
That night, you went to sleep, and while you were asleep you weren’t aware of the guest that had approached, but hearing some hushed whispers outside room you were sleeping in made you wake up.
“Sokka? Aang? Katara? Toph?” You asked.
“We Uhm… we have to tell you something…” Katara mumbled.
“Oh?”
They shall sat down in front of you, taking note of the fire nation cloak clutched tightly in your hands.
“Someone came here last night…” Sokka mumbled.
“Who?”
They shared a look.
“Who came here?”
“Zuko.” Toph replied, “Zuko came here but he doesn’t know that you’re here.”
Your whole world froze, their voices drowned out and all you could hear was the pounding of your heart. Was it fear? Worry? Confusion? You couldn’t tell.
Zuko was here.
He didn’t know you were here, but he was here. They seemed okay with it, so had he changed?
No.
He made it clear he wasn’t going to change.
“Get out…” you whispered.
“(Y/N) let us explain..” Katara whispered.
“Out!”
They nodded and left, and you got up and started pacing.
You paced until your legs ached, thought until you could think anymore, screamed and yelled and threw things, scorching the walls of you temporary home.
All those emotions you had been holding on to for ages, since you woke up you let them coming spilling out.
Finally, you stopped, you looked down at your fire nation clothes, then the water nation ones and tossed them one.
Donned in blue, you left and made your way out to the ledge where you knew everyone would be, and they all went quiet as you approached.
Zuko didn’t notice the silence at first, but when he did he looked around, and followed the gazes of the others.
When his eyes locked with yours, he shot up, bow falling from his hands, shattering as it hit the floor.
“(Y/N)…”

Companions Don't Take Sick Days!
Tenth Doctor x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 1046
Warnings: none.
Note: [Y/N] = Your Name
A soft humming awoke me from my deep sleep – the comforting sound of the Tardis was a daily occurrence for me now and I couldn’t help but want to snuggle back into bed. The past few days had been hectic; the Doctor had whisked me all around the universe, bouncing between times, and saving worlds. I loved being by his side but sometimes it felt as though he had endless amounts of energy and I, being human, felt as though I’d missed out on a few (hundred) cups of caffeine with the way I was feeling.
“Ergh,” I grumbled aloud, pushing myself groggily out of the warm comforter. The room I stayed in was lit by a soft, warm glow, pulsing along the walls. Squinting, I stumbled toward the door, eyes still adjusting to the lack of light around me. With a push, I opened the door of my room and poked my head out into the main control area. The Doctor was sitting by the console, staring intensely at it with a furrowed brow. His eyes darted back and forth, as though reading something at high speed, and I noticed his leg bouncing with energy. Whatever was making him look like that I wasn’t ready to face and quickly began to withdraw back into my ro-
“Y/N!”
I groaned. Caught.
“Yes Doctor?” I said, voice scratchier than I expected.
He came bounding over to me, trench coat swishing behind him like a majestic bat.
“Dear me, you look terrible,” he said, gently grabbing my face with his hands and looking me over. “You feeling alright?”
I batted his hands away, embarrassed. “We’ve been going nonstop, I think I’m allowed to look a little worse for wear,” I shot back, crossing my arms. “Besides, I’m up now. What’s on the roster for today?”
The Doctor looked at me sternly, his brown eyes drilling into my soul. I hated it when he looked at me like this – it felt as though he could read my mind.
“I can,” he said cheekily, and I felt my entire body heat. “Just kidding – I think I the psychic link bracelets effects are finally wearing off.”
He raised his arm up and jingled the small silver bracelet on his wrist. I groaned, feeling the matching bracelet heavy on my arm. I’d forgotten about those. Alien tech really was something. They’d proven useful in our last adventure, but I was so tired I’d forgotten to remove mine. I hurriedly pulled mine off just in case it broadcasted anything else out to him.
“However, I do not need one of those to see that you are obviously looking really terrible,” said the Doctor, gently placing a hand on my shoulder. “Why don’t you go back and lay down?”
I shook his hand off my shoulder, ignoring the pulsing in the back of my head. “Now Doctor, I don’t think that will be necessary. I saw you looking – peeved, at the console so why don’t you tell me what’s going on?”
The Doctor crossed his arms, looked over his shoulder at the control room, and back at me.
“No.”
I blinked. “Sorry, what?”
He sighed. “You are not doing anything today. You are taking a sick day.”
“Companions don’t take sick days!” I exclaimed. “This is ridiculous. I’m not even sick.”
The Doctor rolled his eyes. Whipping out his sonic screwdriver, he rapidly scanned me.
“Elevated temperature, increased mucous secretions, and a high white blood cell count. Pardon me, Y/N, but I think that would indicate that you are, in fact, ill,” he said, smiling triumphantly. “I’m putting you back to bed.”
Before I could argue, the Doctor scooped me up his arms and strode back into my room. My heart rate spiked and the dizziness I was feeling earlier increased tenfold. What a cunning man.
“That’s better, isn’t it,” the Doctor said cheerfully as he fluffed my pillows and tucked me tightly into bed. “The color is coming back to your cheeks already.”
I turned away from him – the flush in my cheeks was due to something else.
“I suppose,” I mumbled. “But Doctor, what if you need help?”
The Doctor grinned. “I do have other friends in the Universe, you know. Lots of people owe me a favor or two. Though, I have to admit, you are my favorite.”
He winked at me. “Now then, what else can I do to help you feel better? Ah yes.”
With a flurry, he ran out of my room. I heard dishes clanging, the Tardis beeping, and some other odd noises echoing about before he came striding back in, balancing a tray of food in one hand and a cold compress in the other.
“There we are,” he said, carefully placing the tray on my lap and laying the cold compress on my forehead. As much as I wanted to hate his fussing, I found it to be extremely charming (and the cold compress felt quite nice).
I stared at the tray of soup and bread with some confusion. “You were only gone for a few minutes; where did you get this? I know you can’t cook.”
The Doctor chuckled. “I did a quick stop by your hometown – I know what you like! Give me some credit, Y/N.”
I smiled. The Doctor was incredibly thoughtful and he listened more than I thought he did. “I’m being spoiled today, it seems,” I said.
He grinned. “Right then - open up now, Y/N!” he said, picking up some soup and holding the spoon towards me expectantly.
Immediately, my entire body burned with embarrassment. “W-wait a second I can feed myself!”
I went to grab the spoon, but the Doctor smoothly grabbed my wrist and laid it back down on the sheets. His warm hand enveloped mine and it felt as though time and space stood still.
“Y/N, please let me take care of you,” he said softly. I looked into his soft brown eyes, my pulse fluttering. We were so close we could have-
“Yes, sorry,” I murmured, tearing my eyes away from his and allowed the Doctor to care for me. He was so gentle, his touch left fire on my skin, but I did my best to ignore it. He was the loneliest man in the universe, and he wanted to keep it that way…but some days, it seemed to me, he’d rather be anything else.

Author’s Note: I’m sick as a dog right now and was watching some Doctor Who to pass the time – decided I might as well write a classic sickfic with some nice fluff. Somehow, though, I managed to make it sad at the very end. Sorry : D

SUPERACHE - CONAN GRAY WRITING CHALLENGE MASTERLIST
----------------------------
I felt like I was ready to throw up as I walked into the console room.
"Ahh, you're awake," the Doctor said once he spotted me. "I swear, you lot sleep for ages."
"8 hours is recommended," I muttered, trying to ignore the weight in my stomach. I forced a chuckle. "I don't usually get that much."
"I'll have to fix that," he grinned at me. I grinned back at him. "You're upset."
I hummed, eyebrows furrowing.
"I can see it," he explained. "We've been traveling together for a while now. You think I can't tell?"
Another chuckle was forced out.
"(Y/n)... what's wrong?"
I let out a sigh and looked down. I heard the Doctor walking over to me. I didn't look at him until I saw the tips of his shoes. He had his eyebrows drawn up as he frowned at me.
"Talk to me."
I took a deep breath. "I... I think I should go home."
"For a visit," he asked. A smile started breaking out. "That's fine. You've just gotta ask."
He walked to the console.
"I'll take us there right now and you can have a nice visit-"
"I meant forever," I cut him off. He looked up from the controls. "I... I wanna go home."
He stared at me for a moment before furrowing his eyebrows and looking down. He was trying to avoid showing any kind of extreme reaction. I had been with him long enough to know that.
"Why," he asked after a few moments of silence.
I bit my tongue.
"(Y/n)?"
"I... I'm scared," I said. I felt pathetic saying it out loud, but it was true. "I can't do this anymore. I need to stop running. I need to feel safe."
"I can keep you safe."
"I can keep myself safe on Earth," I replied. "But here... I can't do this anymore, Doctor. I'm sorry, but I can't."
"But the adventures," he stepped toward me again. "The planets and the history and the amazing sights-"
"Don't outweigh my fear," I stopped him. "I walk out of those doors and my heart drops. I... I can't commit to helping and being with you if I can barely handle being outside of the TARDIS."
He didn't speak. He just looked at me.
"I'm sorry-"
I was cut off by him reaching over and flipping a switch. I jumped to grab the console.
"What are you doing?!"
"I'm reminding you why you decided to go with me," the Doctor said, pointing at me. "I... I can't let you leave."
"Doctor, no!"
"Here."
The TARDIS landed harshly.
"Come on."
"No."
"It's a planet where there are cliffs made of pure crystal. The sun catches it just right and creates this gorgeous-"
"Doctor, stop," I said as he tried to grab my arm.
"You're right," he nodded, stepping back. "I have a much better idea."
"You aren't listening to me-"
I latched onto the console again. I closed my eyes as the TARDIS landed. The Doctor was ignoring me. He was so focused on this that he was ignoring what I was actually saying.
"Planet that is basically one giant garden. Beautiful flowers from every corner of the universe; all of them sitting here to make sure none of them go extinct."
He grabbed my arm, pulling me out of the TARDIS. I hissed a little. It hurt. He had never hurt me before.
He started pointing at plants as he dragged me away from the TARDIS. He was moving quickly. He was barely keeping himself from just running. He was trying to make sure that there was a considerable distance between me and my only ride home.
"This one genuinely smells like a campfire, which isn't great, but you can understand why it looks like flames."
"Doctor-"
"This one produces almost four times the oxygen as the average tree on Earth."
"Doctor-"
"This one is actually edible-"
"Doctor, stop!"
I finally managed to pull my arm away from his and stopped running. He stared back at me with wide eyes. I felt my heart breaking all over again.
It was silent. Tense. For the first time, he was the thing that scared me. And he knew that.
"I... I wanna go home, Doctor," I said as tears filled my eyes. "I've been thinking about this for weeks. I know what I want. No more running, no more convincing. I want to go home. Please. Let me go home."
He blinked a few times before looking around. It was like he was suddenly realizing what he had done today. I looked down, blinking away the tears.
"I... I'm sorry," he muttered. "(Y/n). I'm so, so sorry."
I stepped back when he reached for me. He froze and stepped back again.
"I'll take you home now," he promised. "I... I'm sorry."
I just nodded.
It was silent on the trip home. The only noise was the engine as we landed. I stood up and walked toward the door.
"I'm sorry," he said softly. "I... I just wanted to get you to stay. I thought if I convinced you, then I wouldn't have to be alone."
I stopped with my hand on the door. I walked back over to him. He was looking down as I pulled him into a tight hug. He slowly hugged me back.
"I'm sorry," he repeated.
"I'm not leaving because I'm angry or because I hate you," I mumbled before stepping back. "I'm leaving because this world isn't meant for me. But I know that it's perfect for you. You are always going to be that man running around with his police box that saves everyone he can. And I have had an amazing time traveling with you. I'm not trying to make you lonely, but we are on two different worlds... figuratively."
"I know," he nodded. I closed my eyes as he pressed a kiss to my forehead.
I stepped back, walking backward toward the door. "Goodbye, Doctor. And thank you... for everything."
"You're welcome," he grinned. "And goodbye, (Y/n).
As the TARDIS door closed behind me, I felt a pressure roll off my back. As much as I knew I would miss the Doctor, I knew this was for the best.
For a moment, just for a moment, I was able to feel safe.
Even if that meant that the Doctor and I no longer saw eye-to-eye.

Halloween Special
Tenth Doctor x Reader
Prompt: For a Halloween fest, you chose the Doctor as your costume! He’s not impressed.
Lowkey inspired by the fact I decided to throw together a last-minute 10th Doctor costume. And Happy Halloweekend!
Word Count: 687
Warnings: none.
Note: [Y/N] = Your Name
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Come on, let’s go [Y/N]! This festival is one for the ages. I really think you’ll enjoy it!”
I heard the Doctor calling me as I got ready for the Halloween festival in my room. He’d been raving about it for quite a while, and we finally had time between adventuring to head over and check it out. The Doctor told me that most humans would dress up, which led me to a brilliant idea.
I quickly put the finishing touches on my costume as I called back, “Coming!”
“There you are! Why so slow today -”
The Doctor stopped short when he saw me. His eyebrow, which seemed to be eternally raised, somehow went even higher on his forehead.
“Do you like my costume?” I exclaimed, grinning from ear to ear, giving him a little spin to show it off.
I had snagged the costume items over the course of a couple weeks as we travelled, sneaking them past the Doctor as we went about our adventures. I found the blue suit jacket and pants as we ran through the streets of modern-day London last week. The brown trench coat I managed to grab on a completely alien planet (who would have guessed alien fashion would work so well for me?). The white shirt and red tie were quickly purchased while sneaking around twentieth century Victorian England. And, to finish the look, a delivery of red converse right to the Tardis door (not even sure how I managed that) while we were hanging out in a futuristic Manhattan. I had even managed to make a little sonic screwdriver replica using a tiny flash light and some craft materials.
“I, um, what…” the Doctor stuttered.
“You said this festival was full of costumes! And what better costume than a time traveling alien?” I laughed, grinning.
The Doctor frowned, looking a mix of utter bemusement and concern. “Is that really…do I wear this outfit too much?” he gestured to himself weakly, his clothing almost identical to mine. “Good lord my fashion sense must be dying if you can copy me so exactly.”
I rolled my eyes good-naturedly and walked over to him. “You’re a drama king. Just because you cycle through two or three outfits every couple of seasons doesn’t mean you’ve lost your fashion sense. Just means you’re old and like what you like.”
The Doctor let out a snort as I linked arms with him. “Did I ever tell you that you are my favorite companion?”
“I bet you say that to every companion.”
“Mm, no I’ve had a couple of not-so-great companions. Like the ones who dress up as me.”
“Hold on, now, which is it?! Make up your mind!”
The Doctor laughed. “Kidding! Kidding. So then, now that you are ‘me’, what are your plans?”
“I need to choose a companion I think,” I said. “And perhaps also start making my hair stick up everywhere.”
I pushed my hair up to mimic him and he laughed out loud. “You look ridiculous.”
“I am simply your mirror, Doctor!” I exclaimed. “Oh! I almost forgot. Look…”
I whipped out my little sonic screwdriver and turned it on. “Haha! I’m the Doctor!”
The Doctor let out the biggest snort, doubling over in laughter as I swung my flashlight around, pretending to scan various items in the Tardis.
“St-stop that’s ridiculous,” he said between gasps. “What on earth even is that?”
“My sonic screwdriver, obviously! See?” I clicked the flashlight, making it flash on and off. “Created by my own hand, might I add.”
“A work of art, [Y/N]!” he exclaimed.
After the Doctor collected himself, he straightened up and grinned. “Well then, since you are all ready now, I suppose we should be off, Doctor,” he winked at me.
“Allons-y!” I yelled, pointing my sonic screwdriver toward the Tardis doors and marching forward.
I heard the Doctor groan. “I’m never taking you to another Halloween festival again.”
I turned to him and smirked. “Come along, my little companion, let’s go on an adventure!”
Shaking his head, amused, the Doctor took my hand. “I’d follow you anywhere, Doctor.”
Happy Halloween!

Snap
Tenth Doctor x Reader; Eleventh Doctor x Reader; 14th Doctor x Reader (David Tennant Version)
Prompt: inspired by the song Snap by Rosa Linn. The Reader deals with the aftermath of being the Doctor’s companion and unrequited love. Also, with the announcement of David Tennant’s return, I had to include his “14th” Doctor in this as well!
Word Count: 5490
Warnings: brief mention of depression (nothing in detail)
Note: [Y/N] = Your Name; [D/N] = Dog’s Name. I apologize in advance about the Dalek section as I am not overly familiar with their history and am basing them/their lore off of the couple of episodes I’ve watched.
It's 4 AM
I can't turn my head off
Wishin' these memories would fade
They never do
I rolled over in bed, restless, unable to sleep. Visions of space, a smiling man, and a blue police box swirled in my head. It felt like a dream, one that was just out of reach, and yet so raw and real at the same time. It had been six months to the day that the Doctor, a time travelling alien from Galifrey, had left. Six months since he decided I’d never see him again. Six months.
The darkness outside reminded me of my own smallness in the universe. As a human, I was one of the most delicate species across the cosmos – and yet the Doctor somehow made me feel bigger than life. When I was with him, I was whole. We’d traveled all over the universe – from dangerous planets to places more beautiful than I could describe. The Tardis became my home. The Doctor became my life.
Flashback
“[Y/N]! Come this way,” the Doctor’s chipper voice rose over the crowd of people around us. I looked up from the tapestry I was admiring and locked eyes with the Doctor. He sported his brown trench coat and modern looking suit, standing out like a sore thumb amongst the busy medieval market. I smiled and made my way to him. He took my hand, the warmth spreading from my fingers right to my heart.
“I’d like to show you something,” he said, gently leading me through the throng of shoppers.
“Is it a famous historical figure?” I asked, jokingly.
“We already met one of those today! I can’t go around having you meet every important figure and confusing the history books,” the Doctor chuckled, looking over at me.
“Honestly, at this point I think we’ve done enough time travel to confuse every history book in the world,” I responded, only half-kidding.
The Doctor shrugged, laughing. His eyes crinkled and I smiled up at him fondly. How I loved him.
“Anyway, [Y/N], I wanted to show you this,” the Doctor helped me climb up a small embankment and pulled me to his side. I was so close to him I could hear his twin hearts beating in tandem.
“Oh my – Doctor this is beautiful!”
Before me was a huge field of wildflowers, surrounding the giant castle overlooking the kingdom. Flowers long gone in my day stood bright and tall in the morning sun. Pink, yellow, and blue hues rippled across the fields as the breeze blew so slightly. The castle, a massive and elegant building, stood solemnly in the distance. It was like a fairytale.
“Isn’t it just lovely?” the Doctor said.
“It looks like a storybook come to life!” I exclaimed. Though I had seen many incredible sights with the Doctor – from other planets to history-changing events, little things like this always made me pause in awe and admiration. The Doctor figured this out and now, every place or time we stopped in, he made a point of pausing with me to admire these views with me.
“A storybook with a beautiful princess,” said the Doctor, giving my shoulder a small squeeze. I blushed, looking away and trying to calm the nerves in my chest. I had to remind myself that no, he was not a human man, but an alien who was extremely old – romance was forbidden. Even then, I couldn’t stop the thundering in my chest.
End Flashback
Turns out people lied
They said, "Just snap your fingers"
As if it was really that easy for me to get over you
I just need time
            Click. Click. Click.
I sat, absentmindedly typing away on my laptop. It was quiet in my office today. Most people were working from home, which left me with plenty of in-office tea. Though I enjoyed working at home too, that sometimes seemed to make my mind wander far too much, so I volunteered to come in more often than my colleagues. The job itself was fairly easy – a simple data entry job that consisted of me filling out spreadsheets and attending a meeting here and there.
            Mundane.
            Boring.
            Normal.
I stopped typing for a moment, staring off into the distance. It had been a year since I’d seen the Doctor. My wonderful, incredible Doctor. It’s funny – even though I knew it was a year for me, for the Doctor, he could jump into any part of my life and it would seem like just a second. Time was so confusing now. Was a year really so long?
I went back to typing, hardly noticing what I was doing. I had gotten this job a couple months ago after my parents begged me to try to do something with my life. After the Doctor had dropped me off, I spiraled into a depression. I felt nothing and everything at the same time. It was paralyzing. I wallowed for months, unsure of how to continue. I’d just been traveling through space and time, for goodness’ sake! However, as life began to move on without me, I realized that I couldn’t sit in my flat all day with nothing to show for it. My friends carefully pulled me back out into the wider world again, treating me gently and acting like I’d just experienced the worst break up of my life. In fact, they had met the Doctor a few times. To allay suspicion, he introduced himself as my boyfriend (though that made my heart race just thinking about it) and now that he was no longer coming around, they assumed (rightly so) that we’d broken up. Pretty accurate, I suppose.
“You’ll be able to get over this hump,” said one of my friends on a particularly difficult night for me. “Life is full of mysteries and heartbreak, but I know you - you’re strong. And you have us.”
I was forever grateful to my friends for sticking by my side. It must have been odd – the Doctor had dropped me off during a time that was just a couple of months after he’d shown up in my life, so my friends probably thought I had fallen in too deep with a guy I’d known for a short time, even though to me, I’d known him for years. I smiled wryly. What a mess this was.
“Hey [Y/N]! Did you want to join us after work today for dinner?” one of my coworkers called from across the office, pulling me out of my reverie. “Boss said she’d pay!”
I thought about it for a moment. It had been months since I’d gone out, much less socialized with a large group of people. I suppose I was feeling brave today. I smiled at him. “Sure, why not.”
Trying to re-learn how to live a ‘normal’ human life was hard, but I was trying. Though I missed the Doctor more than life, I knew that my time as his companion was over. One step at a time.
Snapping one, two
Where are you?
You're still in my heart
            Flashback
“You look incredible, [Y/N]! I think you’ll definitely fit in,” the Doctor said, nodding in approval. I looked down at the huge, puffy dress, wondering if the Doctor needed his eyes checked. A large, powdered wig perched atop my head like some massive vulture. The Tardis hummed in approval, and I felt even more ridiculous. If the Tardis approved, then I knew I looked positively ludicrous.
“Doctor, I know that this period of time involved this type of – fashion, but you don’t need to lie to me,” I grumbled, trying to keep the wig from toppling to the ground. “You can just tell me I look like an overstuffed cupcake.”
The Doctor laughed. “You’re too much! I’m being serious – I think you look perfect.”
I rolled my eyes. “While I appreciate you, I also refuse to believe you.”
The Doctor chuckled and walked over to me, poking my nose and smiling. “You always look perfect, sweetheart.”
“Stop buttering me up and let’s get a move on,” I said, crossly.
“As you wish,” he said, bowing and holding out his hand as we started towards the Tardis’s exit.
I took his hand, trying to balance the wig and giant dress, while also attempting to be graceful. We managed to get outside – the Tardis had parked in an alleyway in 18th century Paris. I saw ladies in very similar attire as me walking about in the main road, their giant wigs seemingly glued to their heads. I envied how smoothly they walked across the cobblestone streets.
“See, [Y/N]? You look like a French elite,” said the Doctor. “Told you that you look perfect.”
“Well they look lovely, but I – whoa!”
The heel of my shoe caught on a loose area of the cobblestone alley and I went tumbling. The wig, dress, and the many layers of undergarments went flying. The Doctor, caught off guard, came tumbling down next to me. We both hit the ground with a resounding oof.
Panting, I laid there a moment. The wind had been knocked out of me.
            “D-Doctor are you o-okay?” I gasped.
I heard some grumbling and movement next to me. “Don’t worry, I’m good, it’s all okay,” he grunted. “I think your dress broke most of my fall, in fact.”
“Oh so now I’m just a pillow for when you fall over?”
            “A very nice pillow, yes.”
I laughed, though it came out more as a pained grunt. Pretty sure I landed on my tailbone – that would be sore for a couple days for sure.
“Can you help your pillow up, please? I think I’ll change – era accurate fashion be damned for this trip,” I mumbled.
The Doctor jumped lightly to his feet. Surprising considering how far he’d fallen just moments ago. He held his hand out to me.
“Come on there, let’s get you changed up and then we can explore,” he said cheerily. “And I promise to never make you wear anything quite so… cupcake-like again.” He winked and I groaned.
“You never cease to amaze me,” I said, grabbing his hand and getting on my feet. The wig lay forgotten on the cobblestone street. “It’s like you know exactly how to make me feel better and worse at the same time!”
He smiled, kissing my forehead. “It’s the power of the Doctor!”
I smiled back at him. “A special power indeed.”
End Flashback
Snapping three, four
Don't need you here anymore
Get out of my heart
'Cause I might snap
It was a cold winter day. I was wrapped up like a little present against the cold. My puffy jacket, hat, and scarf were working overtime. My dog, a little corgi, shuffled ahead of me. I held on to her leash, keeping my hands shoved deep in my pockets. My parents had gotten her for me about two years ago, right after my first-year anniversary at my job. I was so excited – she was just the spark of joy I needed.
“Come on, [D/N]! I know you love the snow, but it’s freezing out here,” I said as she stopped to sniff another light post. “Let’s get ourselves home and warm, shall we?”
[D/N] looked up at me and wagged her tail. Though it was cold outside, my heart warmed me fully just looking at her little face.
“Ok, fine, you can sniff a little longer,” I laughed, giving her a little more lead of the leash.
[D/N] started to dig intensely in the snow, her face almost completely covered. I shook my head in amusement. Dogs were so silly sometimes.
“Right, I’m sure there’s something really interesting in there, but I think you should probably stop digging on public land,” I said, giving her leash a little tug.
Suddenly, [D/N] popped out of the snow, a book in her mouth.
“What’s that you have there?” I said, kneeling down and carefully taking it from her. She wagged her tail and smiled at me, proud of her find.
I looked at the cover. The Angel’s Kiss was embossed on the front.
“Huh, The Angel’s Kiss, eh? Looks like one of those weird romance novels,” I joked to [D/N]. “I suppose we can put it on that bench over there. Hopefully someone can find it again.”
“Excuse me! Excuse me I think you might have my book…”
A cheerful voice suddenly rang out in the quiet winter air. I turned around to see a very tall man walking up the path. His hair was brushed over to one side of his face and his bowtie was slightly askew.
“Oh, this romance novel is yours?” I asked, holding it up and fully facing him.
I noticed him do a double take, his face clouding over for a second, before the serene smile returned. “Ha, it’s no romance novel, but yes, it is mine. Well, kind of, I suppose,” said the stranger, reaching out for the book hurriedly. “But I can take it off your hands now.”
I was startled by his sudden reach and the book fell back into the snow. “Oh, what’s the rush? Perhaps it is a spicy romance novel,” I said, half-joking. The man looked at me again for a long moment, before saying quietly, “No it isn’t,” as he leaned down and picked the book up from the snow.
“Thank you very much,” he said, and quickly turned away back up the path.
As I watched him walk away my brow furrowed. He seemed so familiar to me. Though I didn’t remember ever seeing him before, there was something about him… I couldn’t quite put a finger on it.
I looked down at [D/N]. She sat patiently, looking at me. “Well, I suppose my imagination can get out of hand sometimes, can’t it?” I said. “Come on, little one, let’s go.”
As I turned away, back towards my flat, I heard a woman’s voice cry out “Doctor! Where have you been?”
The Doctor? No, surely not here, not now…
I whirled around. The man I’d just been speaking to was standing with two others now, a little farther down the path. A woman with red hair and a brown-haired man. The woman was tugging at the book I’d just handed back to him. Perhaps I’d misheard, maybe it was a mistake…
“Doctor, what’s wrong? It looks like you’ve just seen a ghost,” said the woman.
No, I hadn’t misheard. The familiarity, the odd comfort – it was the Doctor. Indeed, it wasn’t my Doctor, at least not as knew him, but it was still the Doctor. A rush of emotions hit me. I felt anger, sadness, pain, and hope all at the same time. Had he forgotten me? He didn’t seem to recognize me at all. And he had two new companions? When he’d left me, he swore he’d never take another person with him again – what was this hypocrisy? Was I not good enough?
I felt my legs begin to move without me. I wanted to sprint to him, to demand answers, to figure out what was going on. Why did he look so different? Why did he act like he didn’t know me – was this another one of his kind? No, he said there were no Time Lords left. My brain was spinning. Four years. Four years. And he chose to show up now. Right as I was starting to feel whole again.
“Doc –“ I began, but then, as though on cue, a massive gust of wind suddenly stirred up, causing the snow to dance into the sky and obscure my vision. I covered my eyes and quickly grabbed onto [D/N] to ensure she didn’t get lost in the gust.
The snow settled and there was no sign of the three figures. Still holding [D/N], I ran over to where they had been, hoping against hope I’d see one of them or the Tardis hidden amongst the bushes. Nothing. I blinked back tears, feeling an overwhelming sense of sadness and heaviness descend on my chest. I’d always wanted to see the Doctor again, but this felt wrong. He had new companions. He didn’t acknowledge me. He even looked completely different. The bubbling of emotions in my chest suddenly ripped through and I wailed in anguish. This feeling felt as fresh as the day he left me.
I'm writing a song
Said, "This is the last one"
How many last songs are left?
I'm losing count
Flashback
I was shaking with fear. The Doctor stood in front of me, his arms spread to protect me. I could see his body quivering just a bit, but his voice held steady as he tried to reason with the Daleks in front of us.
“You don’t want to do this,” he said. “She is innocent – “
“Exterminate.” Said the robotic voices, ignoring him.
“D-Doctor please, you need to g-go and save the others,” I whispered. “I can’t move and there are others who need you right now – please.”
“Don’t speak, [Y/N],” he commanded. I could hear the fire in his voice. “I will protect you.”
The Daleks had their blasters pointed at us, slowly closing in. I felt sick. This was all my fault. I had accompanied the Doctor on this mission to rescue some space travelers who had been captured by the Daleks. The Doctor tried to make me stay in the Tardis, but I insisted. Instead, all I’d done was gotten hurt and now the Doctor couldn’t continue with the rescue mission. I tried to stand but hissed in pain. A large gash on my leg prevented me from being able to move comfortably.
“Don’t move, [Y/N], I don’t need you to be more hurt than you already are,” said the Doctor, his voice stern. Almost angry, I thought.
I looked around wildly, wondering if somehow, I could help distract these beasts. We were pressed up against a wall, cornered. I felt the wall behind me. It was smooth metal. Hardly anything – wait! My hand hit a large bolt. It felt loose. I carefully began to untwist it, hoping to not draw attention to myself as the Doctor continued to speak to the Daleks.
Buy me a few more seconds, Doctor, I thought.
Bingo! The bolt came off in my hand. Summoning all my courage and strength, I chucked it hard at the Dalek closest to me. It hit the dome of the robotic and it short-circuited. The other Daleks were momentarily distracted, so I grabbed the Doctor’s hand and pushed myself to move as quickly as I could despite the searing pain in my leg.
“[Y/N]!” the Doctor yelped, surprised. “You’re brilliant.”
“I try to be,” I panted, concentrating on not falling as we made our escape. The Doctor grabbed me by the waist and half-dragged, half-carried me through the Dalek ship.
“Listen to me, [Y/N], I am going to get you back to the Tardis. Do you understand?” he said as we made our way back to the Time Lord’s ship. I nodded, weakly. On a normal day I’d protest, but with my leg and the mess I’d already caused, I accepted his judgement quickly.
We made it back to the Tardis in one piece. The Doctor quickly got me inside and sat me down against a wall. He then typed something into the ship’s main interface.
“Protective force field,” he said, without looking up.
After he was done, he quickly came over to me. He gently grabbed my chin, raising my eyes to meet his. “Listen to me, [Y/N],” he began, his voice the most serious I’d ever heard. “You need to stay here, you need to stay safe, and you will not leave the Tardis. Do you understand me?”             I nodded; eyes wide. The Doctor was rarely this serious.
            “Good.”
And with that, he left me there. The Tardis hummed nervously, and I did my best to patch my leg up as best I could. I hated sitting around while he was in danger, but I knew in this case I’d be nothing more than in the way.
It felt like ages, sitting in an empty Tardis, anxiously hoping the Doctor was going to come back to me in one piece. My mind started to race. What if the Doctor came back injured? I’d never treated him for any wounds before – would I know how to? What if…he didn’t come back? I’d only operated the Tardis a handful of times and wasn’t sure if I’d be able to escape. I pushed that dark thought out of my mind. He was the Doctor! Of course, he’d come back.
            “Run!”
I jumped as the Tardis doors swung open and the Doctor plus four spacemen came tumbling inside. The Doctor was furiously scrambling to the controls, shouting commands, and telling everyone to hold on. The chaos outside the Tardis swiftly disappeared as the ship started to whirl and we were off.
The breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding was let out. The four spacemen huddled together, looking forlorn. I remembered the Doctor saying there had been eight.
“[Y/N], are you ok?” the Doctor was by my side, arm wrapped around my shoulders. “I’m so sorry you got hurt like this and I had to leave you. So sorry.”
He looked at my leg, which was still seeping blood from under the bandage I hastily wrapped around it. I smiled wryly at him. “Just a scratch.”
He shook his head and did not smile. I saw him gently touch my leg, though at this point the adrenaline that had been coursing through my veins was beginning to wane. The Tardis was getting darker and I felt my head start to fall to the side,
“[Y/N]? Hey! Stay awake, [Y/N]! Stay with me. Please, stay with me!”
I could hear the Doctor’s panicked voice but could not muster the strength to open my eyes again. I fell into a cloud of darkness, the world fading away.
***
I woke with a start. Disoriented, I looked around the room I was in, vision blurry. My mouth felt so dry, and my head was pounding.
“[Y/N]? [Y/N]! You’re awake, good god, you’re awake,” the Doctor’s voice burst through the haziness and once again he was by my side. “Sit up slowly now, you’ve been asleep for a while.”
“Sleep? What?” I mumbled, still trying to get my bearings. “Where am I? What’s going on?”
“We’re in the Tardis,” he said. “Your body has been recovering from that wound on your leg.”
I blinked a couple of times to get the Doctor into focus. His eyes were lined with worry and his hair was more tousled than usual. He looked haggard.
“You look terrible,” I murmured. The Doctor shook his head, giving me a weak smile as he handed me a glass of water.
“Happy to see you too,” he said quietly.
As I drank the water, the Doctor studied me intensely. His gaze burned my skin and I shifted uncomfortably under this scrutiny.
“Doctor?” I began with uncertainty. “What’s wrong?”
The Doctor looked away, running a hand through his hair. He seemed to be steeling his nerves. Was he going to berate me for how I caused a massive problem on the Dalek ship?
Suddenly he snapped his head back to me and smiled widely. “Nothing, nothing at all, [Y/N]. Just glad you’re feeling better. Your leg wound should be all healed up after I cleaned and treated it. Since we’re parked near your flat, I figured you could get some rest in your own room once you finish your water.”
Confused, I stared at him. Just moments ago he was incredibly somber and now he was acting as though nothing was wrong. I continued to sip my water, brow furrowed as I studied the Doctor. There was something up with him, but I decided not to press it for now.
About a half hour later, the Doctor asked me if I could stand. I did so, carefully, noticing that my leg didn’t pain me any longer, but I still favored it. I was definitely sore.
“So, how does the leg feel?” asked the Doctor. “Up to take a little walk?”
I groaned as I stretched. “Fine, a little walk. After I get some things from my flat I want you to take me to the nicest alien spa there is in the universe.”
The Doctor made a noncommittal noise and simply turned his back to me. “Come on, [Y/N], let’s go.”
He guided me out of the Tardis. We walked a short way to the entrance of my flat. The Doctor got us in using his sonic screwdriver as I’d left my keys in the kitchen. As we entered the flat, I could tell there was some energy in the air that I could not quite put my finger on. There was something the Doctor wasn’t telling me.
“Doctor,” I said, suddenly turning around and staring at him straight in the eye. “What are we doing? What’s going on?”
The Doctor avoided my gaze. “Can we please sit down in the living room to talk, [Y/N]?”
I frowned but obliged. As we sat down together, his hand resting gently on my knee, the Doctor looked me straight in the eyes and said, “[Y/N] you need to stay here now. This last trip I almost lost you, and I can’t lose another person.”
The words seemed to echo in the empty flat, bouncing off the walls and assaulting my ears.
“Sorry, did you say stay here? As in, you’ll leave and not come back for me?” I asked, trying to understand what he was telling me.
The Doctor looked down. I felt his hand squeeze my knee slightly.
“Yes. I promised myself that if one of my companions ever got hurt, or was close to getting terribly injured, I would never, ever, lead them to danger again,” he said. “And you, [Y/N], are the most important person in my life. Seeing you almost – seeing you pass out in my eyes I just – “
The Doctor’s voice hitched. Instinctively, you reached out to comfort him, but he stopped your hand, gently lowering it back down away from him. “I refuse to be the reason you get hurt. I do not deserve to have a companion. You will be my last, [Y/N]. I hope you know how special you are to me”
“N-no, don’t say this. You haven’t even asked me if this is what I want,” I choked out, tears welling in my eyes. “When we first met you said that we’d go everywhere together. You can’t just throw me away like trash.”
The Doctor shook his head vehemently. “You are a treasure, [Y/N]. A treasure worth protecting. A treasure worth keeping far away to protect.”
“Doctor no, I’m not delicate, I can help you – “
The Doctor stood up suddenly. He didn’t look at me in the eyes as he said, “Goodbye, [Y/N]. Please stay safe. And don’t wait for me.”
I grabbed for his hand, but he brushed it aside as he marched out toward the door of my flat.
“Stop! Doctor! DOCTOR!” I shouted, going after him. He paused for a moment in the entrance of my flat, and I hoped against hope he would stop. He turned to face me, a pained expression on his face. His mouth formed the words:
            “I love you.”
And he was gone.
Since June twenty-second
My heart's been on fire
I've been spending my nights in the rain-
Tryna put it out
“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday, dear [Y/N], happy birthday to you!”
I smiled, surrounded by my friends and family as they sang to me. My birthday hat sat askew atop my head and a modest cake sat in front of me, the birthday candles glowing.
“Go on, blow them out and make a wish,” said my mum.
I thought for a moment, then blew out the candles. Ten years older. How time flies.
“Well are you going to tell us what you wished for?” one of my friends asked, grinning.
Chuckling, I said what I repeated every year, “But then it wouldn’t be a real wish, would it?” My wish was silly – childish even, but I wished to see the Doctor one more time every year. At this point, it was a tradition I had to keep. The only soul who knew was [D/N] because she never judged.
My friends and family shared the evening together, laughing, joking, and enjoying each other’s company. I endured the usual teasing of ‘when are you going to get a man? You can’t just work forever!’ and my mum and dad joking (with a hint of truth) about how [D/N] would be their only grand-pup. I was used to it by now and it didn’t bother me anymore. Yes, I threw myself into my career. It paid off as I was doing quite well for myself. Unfortunately, my job didn’t really give me a lot of time for dates, but I did try. It just seemed I was very unlucky in the dating scene. Nothing ever worked out. They all simply didn’t fill a void that seemed to constantly be in my heart.
“You know, [Y/N], I have a new coworker who is super cute. I bet you guys would get along,” said one of my friends, whipping out her phone and showing me a picture. “Look he’s just your type!”
I laughed. “Oh come on, you know I don’t have time right now! Besides, [D/N] and I are doing just fine, the two of us. She’s my best partner!”
As the party started to wind down and people began to leave, I gave let everyone give one last pat to [D/N] on their way out. Her little tail still wagged furiously, though not as energetically when she was a pup. The grey around her muzzle was beginning to show more prominently, and I made sure to give her extra attention on days like today.
“Hey girl, don’t think I forgot about your birthday treat,” I said once we were alone. I went the pantry and pulled out a little cake-shaped dog treat. [D/N] snagged it happily and curled up in dog bed, happy to gnaw on the treat.
            I smiled.
“I’ll be right back,” I said to her. “Enjoy!”
After tossing a few more things in my trash can, I tied up the full trash bag and I headed out of my flat. It was quiet outside. Peaceful. The summer bugs sang an evening song as I walked towards the trash receptacles in back of the complex. Street lamps illuminated my path. A man passed by me, his face obscured by the darkness.
            “Good evening,” said the man.
“Evening,” I said back, without much thought.
            “Headed anywhere special?” he asked.
Annoyed, I responded, “Yes, the trash. Isn’t that obvious from the trash bag in my hand?”
The man laughed. “You never change, [Y/N].”
            “Sorry, do I know y –”
My breath caught in my throat and the trash bag dropped from my hands. The man stood under a street light, revealing his face to me.
“Doctor!” I exclaimed. I wanted to run to him, but I felt cemented to the spot. I was shocked. It was my Doctor, not the version I’d seen so many years ago. He looked almost identical to what I remembered, except that he was sporting a different color suit and looked a touch older.
“I – you, what are you doing here?” I fumbled over my words, not knowing what to say or how to feel.
“I need you, [Y/N]. One last adventure for us to share,” he said. “I’ll understand if you say ‘no’, of course, but I –”
I didn’t let the Doctor finish. I sprinted to him and wrapped my arms tightly around him. His familiar scent and warm embrace filling the empty space in my heart.
I heard him laugh, the wonderful sound giving me life. “I’ll take this as a yes.”
The familiar sound of the Tardis filled my ears and the Doctor, my Doctor, pulled me to his side once again.
            “Allons-y!”
So I'm snapping one, two
Where are you?
You're still in my heart

Tenth Doctor x Reader
Note: this is my first fanfiction in a long while so I am rusty! Please bear with me. I hope you enjoy this small snippet of Ten and the reader enjoying some very 'domestic' time in the Tardis
______________________________________________________________
“[Y/N] are you quite sure that it said to mix it counter clockwise four times and then clockwise sixty-eight times?”
“Doctor would I steer you wrong?”
            There was a lengthy pause.
            “Yes.”
You snorted. “Thanks Doctor – I’m happy to know you trust me enough on dangerous adventures but not in the kitchen.”
The Doctor grinned at you, his face covered in flour and hair in disarray (well, more than it usually was). He was currently attempting to stir an incredibly thick batter that you two were in the midst of preparing. Cooking utensils, ingredients, and splatters of foodstuffs covered the Tardis’s kitchen. To be quite honest, it looked as though a small bomb had detonated.
“Listen [Y/N], of course I trust you, I’m just not sure why we need to stir this batter sixty eight times,” he chortled. “I’ve been lots of places and in lots of times – never have I found a recipe with such a ridiculous piece of advice.”
You tried to not roll your eyes as you scanned the alien cookbook again. Though the Tardis was able to translate the strange runes, you often wondered if she made a mistake here and then. As though hearing your thoughts, the Tardis rumbled grumpily.
“Sorry, sorry,” you mutter, trying to find your spot on the page again. “Aha! Here it is Doctor.”
Triumphantly, you hold up the book and show the Doctor the specific instruction where it stated to stir it clockwise sixty-eight times. The Doctor paused his stirring for a moment to squint at the page, one stray hair strand falling into his eyes that he absentmindedly brushed up, adding to the flour painting on his face.
            “That is ridiculous.”
            “I didn’t write it!”
The Doctor huffed and he went back to stirring. “If these aren’t the most delicious cupcakes of all time, [Y/N], I will personally toss you out of the Tardis and into space.”
You gasp in feigned indignation. “You would do that to little old me?!”
The Doctor winked, a cheeky grin flashing across his face. “I’d do a lot for little old you.”
The gentle flirt made your heart flutter for a moment, but you quickly got a hold of yourself. He was nothing more than your friend – right?
Ignoring the burning on your cheeks, you hurriedly stuck your head back into the recipe book, hoping he didn’t notice the flush in your face.
“Ah well, after my arms fall off from stirring, at least tell me what the next step is and I can probably do it with my feet,” the Doctor said, turning his attention back to the batter.
“Keep your nasty feet away from our dish!”
            “Touché.”
An hour and ten ingredients later, the Doctor and you stood side by side, staring into the bowl filled with what looked to be a vanilla batter with little sparks and stars emanating from it. Each star exploded into a rainbow as they rose from the thickened batter. It was quite beautiful though also … confusing?
“Doctor, is this – right?” you asked slowly. “I’ve never seen this type of…” you motioned to the stars helplessly.
Even the Doctor looked a bit confused, his nose scrunched and brow furrowed. He’d put his glasses on to better help him discern whatever it was you two had made.
“To be honest, I have no idea. Might as well bake it?” he said, gesturing to the waiting oven.
Carefully, you took turns pouring the batter into little cupcake tins and placed them into the oven. You wondered if the little stars would bake or if the cupcakes would come out with fireworks on top. How was one supposed to eat them if they were exploding?!
“That was an adventure,” the Doctor sighed, leaning on the kitchen table. “I think I’m more exhausted after that than when we ran from those yellow alien creatures.”
“Doctor those creatures were trying to kill us,” you exclaimed.
“Still easier to run from that than make these wild cupcakes!”
You laughed, gently punching the Doctor in the arm affectionately. “You’re too much, you know that?”
“And yet here you are still.”
“I’m trapped in time and space!”
            “But you’re with me!”
“…I suppose that is a bonus.”
Again, your cheeks burned and you had to turn away, busying yourself with cleaning up the kitchen. You heard the Doctor chuckle again behind you, and his warm presence joined your side as you both worked on getting the cooking area back to working order.
About thirty minutes later, the kitchen was sparkling and the alien cupcakes sat cooling on a wire rack. Once again, you found yourself staring at these odd confections.
“Hm,” said the Doctor, hand on his chin. “They look lovely, though I’m not sure I want to eat them now.”
            You grimaced. “Agreed.”
The baking had turned your little vanilla cupcakes with stars into literal black holes. Each cupcake was a swirling mass of tiny stars being pulled into a tornado-like hole. Either the recipe was very messed up or you’d just ripped a hole in space.
“Show me this cookbook again?” said the Doctor.
Nodding slowly, you handed him the book. You kept staring at the strange creations in front of you, not sure if they would grow larger and encompass the Tardis or if they’d stay small and just be …decorations? The last thing you wanted was to eat one and lose your insides to a miniature black hole.
            “[Y/N]!”
The Doctor’s voice made you snap out of your reverie.
“What? What’s wrong?” you gasped, turning towards him.
The Doctor was staring at the first page of the cookbook, one hand in his hair, the other holding the book up in horror. “This isn’t a recipe book! It’s an alchemy book! We’ve made magical little rips in space!”
You blinked once. Twice. Three times. Alchemy book? Didn’t the alien who sold it to you say it was a recipe book?!
“I – well what does that mean?” you exclaimed, now side-eying the ‘cupcakes’ with renewed suspicion.
“It means,” began the Doctor, snapping the book shut with one hand. “That the entire universe as we know it is going to collapse in about…two minutes?”
The blood drained from your face. The universe? Collapsing? All because of some stupid cupcakes?!
The Doctor noticed the horror on your face and gently put a hand on your shoulder. His face was grim, his brown eyes furrowed. “I’m sorry, [Y/N], but this is the end…”
You felt tears welling up in your eyes. This was it? All your adventures with the Doctor over because you couldn’t tell the difference between an alchemy book and a recipe book? All your friends and family on Earth about to pay the price because of your own stupidity? How could this have happened. You wished you could take it all back.
“Doctor I have so many things I want to tell you. I’m so so-“
Then you noticed the Doctor begin to grin. His lip was twitching, his eyes were twinkling..and you saw red.
            “DOCTOR THAT ISN’T FUNNY!”
The Doctor burst out laughing, snorting even, as he doubled over and slapped his knees.
“Y-You should have seen the look on your face!” the Doctor howled, pointing at you with tears streaming down his face. “I’m sorry [Y/N] but it was the perfect opportunity!”
You didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The relief of knowing you weren’t going to be the reason the universe split in two was lovely, but your ‘friend’ was about to be thrown head first out of the Tardis.
“Doctor! If it is a recipe book, then at least tell me what these are?!” you screeched, gesturing violently to the still swirling cupcakes on the table.
The Doctor straightened up, still wiping tears from his eyes. His brilliant smile was enough to melt your heart, and you couldn’t stay mad at him for long.
“Th-they are actually alchemic items,” he gasped, shoulders still spasming from his raucous laughter. “I think something was lost in translation when you picked up the book. Thankfully, these are harmless. Basically, science experiments for children.”
While the explanation was heartening, you suddenly felt extremely defeated. An entire afternoon of hard work with no cupcakes to show for it? And just a dozen science experiments that young aliens would perform at school.
“What’s wrong, [Y/N]? Disappointed with our successful experiment?” the Doctor asked, noticing your slouched shoulders.
            “I really wanted a cupcake.”
The Doctor chuckled, gently grabbing you by the shoulders and planting a kiss on your forehead. “Good thing for you, I’m a Time Lord. What era of cupcake do you want?”
“Any – just get me away from this disaster.”
The Doctor smiled and guided you back to the main control area of the Tardis. “Anything for you, sweetheart.”
