Reading the line “Why would you want to see my face?” reminded me why I love Snape centric fics.
It’s along the lines of ‘loving the unlovable’ or the feeling of never being good enough to be someone’s first or even second choice. Snape exists in a world where everyone around him calls him ugly even as a child. (I’m not surprised he goes the whole be the villain they say you are route. In a sort of no one likes you anyway might as well give them something that makes it feel like a choice way.)
Reading about Snape being loved like truly valued and wanted heals the small foster child in me.

Snape get’s a lot of flack for his treatment of Neville Longbottom (as he should) but no one ever realizes that Dumbledore told Snape Snape figured out, that the prophecy could have been referring to Neville as well.
So every time Snape see’s Neville it’s an extra slap in the face. Yes Neville’s parents are practically vegetables but they are alive. Lily could still be alive.
