I have not done any coding in 24 hours. Need ro find some motivation to keep going. I know I need to just hard at the moment.
On the plus side freeCodeCamp is really good but still have a lot more to get through. Just need to keep telling myself:
I can.
I must.
I will!

I started again using using freeCodeCamp and honestly, I should have started here. Its basically like a free version of Code Academy, which I loved!
Starting from the beginning again seems really depressing but at least this time I know there is an end on sight with a much more structured pathway. I also set up my Github account so I plan to get working on some projects as soon as I am able to.
Later on I’ll be doing a piece about my experiences (as limited as they are) with the various code learning applications I’ve used.

I bought this book on a recommendation. Still not finished it but it is a very good book. Need to find it again and go through it.
You can get it here on Amazon.

Done?
I did it! I finally managed to finish the Javascript tutorial from SoloLearn, and man I have never felt so dumb in my life.
It was all going fine. I mean I was losing my enthusiasm for it, but I was getting the modules done and it was starting to make some sense.
The last section through before the quiz about the updated version was a struggle beyond a struggle. It like they were speaking a foreign language. Luckily I was not alone. Reading the comments section, I could see years of frustrated, budding, wannabe programmers had also felt this pain.
Yet I did not give up. With sheer luck and complete guesswork, I managed to pass and get my certificate.
This experience was a sobering one, so I’m off to freeCodeCamp! I’m going to spend the rest of the week going over the program languages I’ve learnt and make sure I at least understand the main concepts. Then next week I’ll start some projects and hopefully pick up another language.

Okay, I still need to finish the Javascript course on SoloLearn but I wanted to share something Box told me about. Traversy Media is a  great resource and has explained so much and made is me rethink some of my options. Also signed up to Free Code Camp as another resource for when I finish Javascript.
I still have a tonne to learn before I start with any projects but I feel like I’m getting there slowly. I just hope I can keep this determination up.

Next step
I did it! I managed to pass the CSS fundamentals tutorial today and got my little certificate which I immediately downloaded.
Feeling very proud of myself and some of this programming stuff is starting to make sense on a more basic level. The comments in each lesson left by users in SoloLearn are also very helpful.
Next step is Javascript which I started today and already it’s making more sense than HTML and CSS but I think that's just because I’m understanding a lot more. Going to see how quickly I can master this before I start looking at possibly doing some project work.

The Front End
After much research, countless sleepless nights, watching an endless amount of YouTube videos and looking at various websites I started my journey to becoming a Front End Developer. That is to say my most successful journey to website development. Let me explain.
I previously started with Codeacademy many months before, on a free trial, which lapsed and then I found very restrictive with what I could learn.
However, I must give credit to them for putting me on the right path as they got me thinking about what exactly I wanted to do with all the coding languages wanted to learn.
So with the help of YouTube and other websites, I stumbled upon SoloLearn. I found that this was the best way for me to learn the fundamentals at least and had all the languages I had heard about. Best of all it was completely FREE and had what seemed like a very involved community willing to help beginners out with lots of hints and tips built right into the learning objectives.
After 2 hours approximately I had completed the HTML fundamentals course which included HTML5 in a lot more detail then I had studied in Code Academy. They even give you a little certificate which was nice.
Earlier on today I spoke with JC who has stopped coding now and said I should speak with our friend Box about what I needed to be learning.
My conversation with Box (who works in the industry) was the most helpful thing I had done. It highlighted how much I still had to learn and what I should be focusing on and gave me soo many useful tips and websites and resources to use. So I owe him a lot!
I’ll be updating my progress on here as I go along to help me stay accountable and keep persisting and maybe help someone else who needs it in the future. So, for now, the latest part of the journey has begun and I’m starting with CSS. One language at a time.
