Old Style [16/52]

Old Style [16/52] by Lightbringer Via Flickr: All things Analog - 16/52 I love technology, but there are some things that need to be analog, old style: a good watch, a reliable fountain pen... I don't go anywhere without my watch, it's now a part of me. You can see it's been worn: it has some scratches on the rim, the strap isn't the original one. But it works great, and the most important part, the glass, is in its perfect state. This is my only watch, and will be until it breaks! However, I might consider updating it for a good mechanical watch: they just have that something... they don't run out of batteries!

Stirling Old Bridge by Lightbringer Via Flickr: The present Stirling Old Bridge was built in the 1400s or 1500s, replacing a succession of timber bridges. Undoubtedly the best-known of these was one that stood nearby in the 1290s, when Sir William Wallace and Sir Andrew Moray defeated Edward I’s forces at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. The bridge also played a part in the Jacobite Rising of 1745, when an arch was removed to forestall Bonnie Prince Charlie’s forces as they marched south. The bridge today remains one of the best medieval masonry arch bridges in Scotland. www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/stirlin...

Scott Monument [13/52] by Lightbringer Via Flickr: 13/52 - Symmetry Scott Monument is the the largest monument to a writer anywhere in the world. Sir Walter Scott (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, poet and historian. Many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, Old Mortality, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor. Although primarily remembered for his extensive literary works and his political engagement, Scott was an advocate, judge and legal administrator by profession, and throughout his career combined his writing and editing work with his daily occupation as Clerk of Session and Sheriff-Depute of Selkirkshire. A prominent member of the Tory establishment in Edinburgh, Scott was an active member of the Highland Society and served a long term as President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (1820–32).

Fortunate misfortune by Lightbringer Via Flickr: 4/52 - Minimalist So, the other night Edinburgh University Photography Society hosted a Product Photography Workshop. We had a bunch of objects and we started experimenting. This is nowhere near a product photo. In fact, I got this image while trying to get an annoying glare out of this plastic toy. Having immediately discarded it as useless, I didn't realize how funny it looks. The "intended photo" was something close to this: flic.kr/p/Ea7N88

Titanites giganteus (Ammonite) by Lightbringer Via Flickr: Dorset, England, 150 million years old. Ammonites belong to the same group of molluscs as squid, octopus, cuttlefish and nautilus. There are many different species, all with characteristic coiled shells. The biggest ammonite is 2 metres wide. Ammonites were a very diverse group until they became extinct 65 million years ago, along with many other animal groups including the dinosaurs. The similar-looking nautilus survived the extinction, perhaps because it lives in deeper water than ammonites did. www.nms.ac.uk/national-museum-of-scotland/
