Finally watched the awesome @soskasisters remake of Rabid. I really enjoyed it. For one, the gore and make-up effects were great. I love how well the characters were written and played I really found myself invested in the outcome. It was definitely a well orchestrated tragedy. Was great to see the main character Rose feel empowered but that only made it twice as sad to see what she had to go through. So I finally got around to watching the straight to home video Doom Annihalation. I'd been meaning to catch it since it came out but couldn't find it streaming anywhere, and didn't want to buy it, as I thought it was going to be a lame duck. It's actually pretty fun. The effects are limited by the budget, but there were enough creatures to make it blast. I loved all the nods to the games in this and believe me there were actually a quite a bit. It had some good gore and it actually made me jump twice, which doesn't often happen. So it shouldn't be a big surprise I was really excited for Lovecraft County to premier. I'm a big fan of Jordan Peele's work and the show is based around Lovecraft mythos which I've been a longtime fanboy for. An ex soldier returns home and follows a trail of bread crumbs to track down his missing father. The show is a mix of Lovecraftian horror and racial tension set during the Jim Crow era. The effects are great so far and the tension/suspense is palpable. The charecters are written very well. I definitely feel like I'm coming along on their journey. I really appreciate the historical elements so far. The first episode brought up sundown town's. So I went and researched it. I understood what it was from the show but I wanted to learn further. So apparently from the late 1800s to about 1965, town's to become exclusively white imposed a sundown rule where if any black folks were still in town after dark they would be punished anywhere from arrest, beatings, labor to death. Watched Blade the Iron Cross the other day and I thought it was actually decent. I liked it better than the last three Puppetmaster flicks which it continues from. I've always really liked Blade so it was cool to see him get a solo movie even if it was likely only to make the movie cheeper. This film pits a psychic a police detective and Blade against some more Nazi bastards..... including a supremely disturbed scientist who wants to screw with Toulon's formula to make controllable zombies to unleash on their enemies. The puppet action was minimal but what they showed was cool. I dug the really strange seeming love interest between Blade and the psychic lady.....hey puppets need love too.
