After all the trouble Baby caused a few months ago, it was assured that his defeat and destruction of the black star dragon balls should have returned things back to normal. But it only got worse, far scarier than anything you imagined.

Goku always made you believe that no matter how dangerous a situation looked, you could trust him to keep things under control and everyone safe at all costs. He's proved that time and time again, even going so far as to push his body to its limits in such a short period of time to obtain a new power, one strong enough to do away with the threat of Baby. The Earth was doomed on all accounts, but Goku still managed to save everyone with Piccolo's help. You would have never thought of such heroism becoming the catalyst for the next big threat to your world.

It wasn't a secret Goku had been acting strangely since taking care of Baby. But, like Gohan, you just assumed it was because of the impact Piccolo's sacrifice left still so fresh in all of your hearts. Goku wasn't one to let himself be kept down by such things and yet he had become so broody and secretive lately, resigning himself to train with Uub and Pan. When asked if this temperament of his was because of Piccolo, he would open up enough about it to say he misses his old friend very casually and as wholesome as expected of him. Even so, that still didn't exactly improve his unusual mood swings and you were starting to believe it had nothing to do with Piccolo at all.

You hoped that taking him away from fighting for a bit would help him feel better from his unspoken troubles, so you gathered Goten, Gohan and his family as well for a casual dinner party outside. Pan quickly spread the word to Trunks who showed up too with his family. You were confident that surrounding Goku with some fresh air, good food and his family would do him some good, and he was starting to seem like his old self again, evident by the perk in his long tail and relaxed smile.

It was more fun than you could wish for and it seemed everyone could have used a little break like this. Time just flew by without a care and you were all out until the sun went away letting the moon and stars fill the sky, each of you expressing how thankful you were to witness the beauty of the Earth despite its history of perils. It just made the view all the more worth it.

You took hold of Goku's arm and linked your fingers with his, leaning into his shoulder for comfort and staring out into the twinkling sky feeling completely at ease for once. You can feel him affectionately squeeze your hand in return and his eyes track up to the scenery above as well. Even flying out into space couldn't compare to a sight like this. His eyes caught the full moon with a cozy smile, tail rustling in the grass behind him. It really has been too long since he sat with nature and appreciated it for what it was. Longer still since he would neglect the circumstances of looking upon the moon with his tail, having lived without it for so long to recall the danger of it. His bright eyes fell into a trancelike state, unable to turn away from the glow of the moon.

You didn't notice immediately, feeling the slight jerk of his body and suddenly his hand squeezing yours tighter and tighter getting your attention. It was then you looked up at Goku to see how his eyes had changed to a pale red and involuntary jerks sent you into a panic. Those who could sense ki quickly picked up on the rising power in his body and broke away from the serene view to rush to Goku's aid. You, however, were trapped in his grasp and panicking trying to pry your hand free only for the grip to increase. Gohan tried to snap his father out of it by blocking his gaze from the moon and shaking him while calling out to him where Goten tried to help you free your hand from his grip.

Goku's muscles further expanded and spasmed, and you let out a painful yelp feeling the pressure on your hand compress into your bones, inevitably crushing your hand in his own and prompting Goten from trying to pull your hand free to prying at Goku's fingers to release you. Trunks quickly joined to help and carefully pulled on your wrist while Goten worked. To no avail, Vegeta then steps up in an attempt to sever Goku's tail with a bladed ki wave only for the energy to bounce off the appendage when a golden light outline Goku's body, hardening him against physical impacts. Then with no hesitation at all, The Saiyan Prince struck his fist across Goku's head with all his might in an attempt to knock him out. Another futile effort.

You let out another cry feeling your bones snap under his grip, Pan appearing at your side to help you and intervene with Goku's transformation as well but Gohan makes her stand down as Goku's power had exceeded beyond anything they could handle at this moment. His eyes were then consumed with red, his face stretching out to accommodate a wider, sharper maw and a beastly roar was unleashed expelling a force of his increased power and thrusting everyone around back. Including you, finally freed from his grasp. His form was engulfed by the golden light and he appeared as the expanding silhouette of a Great Ape. But then it changed red, ebbing his size to that of his super saiyan 4 form.

It was the last thing you saw before you blacked out from being blown back. Perhaps for the best, you would not be able to bear the sight of what he had become: A vicious beast of power and destruction who looked among the faces of his family and friends calling for a shred of reason from him, and he did not recognize a soul. Not a cry heeded. Goku's glowing red eyes narrowed as a frightening growl vibrated past his elongated fangs and energy formed in his hands.

“You’re late.” Your fellow Ensign, Thrawn—also known on occasion as Mitth’raw’nuru’odo—seems to have no clear emotion in his voice as you slip into the room. He may very well be a bit annoyed at you, no thanks to you arriving a good thirty minutes after your intended time, and without a single comm in advance, no less. Quite unlike your usual self, unfortunately, no thanks to the unwelcome surprise you had to deal with on your way over. Another unwelcome surprise, at least for today, is this: because of the new rulebook that now runs this…establishment a bit more than the actual top brass does, it’s looking rather likely that this is about to become a major infraction upon your permanent record, if not also a deciding factor against you where all of your future promotions might be concerned. Especially if Thrawn takes it upon himself to rat you out, according to your own local slang. In any case, you’re going to feel just as disappointed as he must be as he’s about to look back at you, if not also somewhat brought down about the possibility of a destroyed relationship. Even if he doesn’t take the moment available to express this—or, for that matter, whether or not he bothers to alert those back home about your ‘adventures’—you would still feel the sting of separation regardless, as he always managed to have this effect on you no matter what. At least, that’s the general thought in your head before he turns his blood-red eyes upon you, and not three seconds later, narrows them in what you can only hope is a look of concern. “And for good reason, I see…the other cadets are acting out again.” As if to shield yourself a second time, your left hand moves instinctively to the bruise beneath your right eye, the most recent ‘lesson’ that Cadet Karvo, a somewhat richer student, decided to teach you on the ways of the Empire. He hasn’t exactly appreciated that a newcomer from the Outer Rim could so much as get admitted to this elite academy, let alone get two commendations by their instructors in almost as many months…so, naturally, he saw fit to remind you of your place somewhere below his own. Somewhere between an assistant and a servant, maybe, though judging by the words he used, he would have loved to see you brought a lot lower. But you, though…perhaps you’re beginning to wonder if your place was always meant to be at this Chiss’ side all along. “That’s the second time this month, isn’t it, Ensign?” This feeling grows just a little as he leaves the safety of his desk to stand before you, the distance between the two of you now curiously shortened. You had originally planned to come here for the first of many study sessions, not just for recalling the general knowledge needed to enter the Imperial Navy, but also to help Thrawn himself practice his Basic. Now that he’s meeting you on your level in three short strides or less, however…preparing for exams now seems to be the least of your worries. “You’re feeling vulnerable and afraid…among other things, to be sure. I can tell from the fluctuations in your pulse and oxygen intake.” There goes his Chiss way of knowing what you yourself don’t always want to acknowledge, possibly even to the point of seeing right through all of your behavioral defenses. How strange that he could always manage to get under your skin, though without wishing to for a great deal of the time you had together. “Yes…er, I mean…” In fact, if you weren’t slowly descending into a state of incoherence, you might just go so far into believing that you found something just a little bit, well…intimidating about this Thrawn. He was well ahead of you in height by at least twelve inches, better gifted in strength and speed, and—in the slang of your hometown—had a mind like a durasteel trap. Hell, by rights, he should have pummeled you at least once in Basic Combat 101, and stolen a few hearts in the process without half trying! “…I don’t know when—or if—they’re gonna be back. Do…do you think they might try again?"

Honestly anytime, but I do find myself reading them in the wee hours of the morning.

Plot: You are a soloist for the Grand Coruscant Ballet. What happens when you get pushed into the principal ballerina’s role suddenly and catch the eyes of a certain Grand Admiral?

Chapter I: The Opportunity of a Lifetime Pt. I

5 days. We have 5 days to add the finishing touches to our production. 5 days until Empire Day. This will be the biggest show of the year with the most important people in the galaxy attending. The Emperor will be here, you thought bitterly. A shiver of apprehension went down your spine at the thought.

*in rehearsal*

“Let’s make those steps more consistent, shall we? Lena, you are meant to be gliding like a fairy down the aisle, not staggering like a Noghri!” The shrill voice of Miss Hillswine, your ballet master, rang out. Lena looked like she might burst in to tears from her embarrassment.

You felt for the younger girl. Lena was trying her best with the steps, the problem was she would get caught up in her anxiety. When she looked in your direction, you exchanged an empathetic look with your fellow ballerina and her face brightened just a bit. She would get the hang of it. Luckily, she was in the ensemble, so she could sort of blend in with the other dancers a bit. That should calm her nerves a bit, you thought internally.

Rehearsal went on for another three hours, the monotony of practicing the steps started baring down on you. You just had one more solo to rehearse and then it would be break-time. The dramatic symphony of the violin began to play, shaking you out of your thoughts. Miss Hillswine is observing from the wings of the stage, her steely Bonegnawer eyes shining with scrutiny. Here it goes…Three chassées down the aisle, toes pointed, leading into a pirouette, and one arabesque later, you have concluded your solo.

Before you have a chance to right yourself from your final pose, Miss Hillswine is already within inches of you. “Y/N”. “Yes Mistress”, your calm voice responds. “That was…” For a moment the worry lines creased in her forehead and her eyes narrowed. You managed to keep a serene expression, but anxiety trickled through in your mind. What could be wrong? “Mist”- “Exquisite.” she cut you off without the crack of a smile. So she was searching for what words she wanted to use. Mistress is obviously not used to complimenting her students.

She actually looked annoyed, but she always has a stern espression. You internally sighed with relief, but your face gave way to surprise. This was the nicest you’ve ever seen her, not that she had ever been too nasty towards you. It was the ensemble dancers that experienced her wrath. “Th-thank you, Mistress” the stuttered reply barreled out. She waved her hand dismissively and gave a light scoff, “Now no need for pleasantries Y/N. I want to see that consistency every rehearsal and especially for our Empire Day debut. No excuses. You may go. All ensemble and soloists dismissed for now! We will reconvene in an hour. Do. Not. Be. Late. Miss Anya will you come here please?” Her reply turned into a screech towards the end. There it was, back to business as usual. You curtsied and turned to exit the stage when Anya passes by and gives you her signature saccharine smile “Wonderful job Y/N! Never give up hope for a better role though.” Her confidence unwavering as she walks onto the stage. You roll your eyes and keep walking, finally making it to your dressing room.
