I don't know how to art, but if I could, I would do a crossover of Zutara and Sky High (2005). Because growing up, my family didn't have Nickolodeon, only Disney. So Warren x Layla was my Zutara.

The opposites attract, the enemies to (almost) lovers, the missed opportunity, the overt chemistry that the endgame couple could not compare to. They are the same font to me.

(Tell me that ain't Zuko protecting Katara)
Tumblr media
How come both Disney and Nick fumbled such a wonderful pairing?

The antis have acquired a new gotcha
Tumblr media
They have set out to crucify people for shipping live action Zutara because of how "pedophillic" it is. Our argument of "Katara and Aang have the same age gap as her and Zuko" is now null.
We're cooked, fellas. Hang up your swords, they got us.

I wholly believe that the ending we got was an alternate ending. The way all the domino pieces were set up did not point to the conclusion we got. The theme of balance, Tui and La, fire and ice, push and pull would work out so tremendously well if Zutara was endgame, if the union of Fire Nation and Water Tribe was canon. The storyline of Guru Pathik and the chakra quest would be resolved.
It feels like that's what they were building up to: the way Katara and Aang never addressed their kiss during Black Sun, the way she seemingly rejected him on Ember Island, the way they butted head when Katara wished to seek revenge and then again when Aang refused to resort to murder, the way there was more tension and intimacy between Katara and Zuko than ever. It feels like that's the logical path the story was taking, that Kataang wasn't meant to be, that that was exactly what's been holding Aang back: his attachments and self-restraints.
Instead of a chance rock jab to the back to unlock his chakra, Aang could have meditated in his armadillo rock ball and finally, finally, let go of Katara fully. That would resolve that forgotten thread and make Aang's reclaiming of his Avatar state and final beat down of Ozai all the more satisfying and gratifying. Because he has let go, he is beyond the scared little boy still clinging to his friends and his crush for support, he is The Avatar. And the energy bending scene would be so much more impactful, because he himself had chosen to let go of his attachments and gain control of his Avatar State, not a random deus-ex-machina rock. He did that, he chose to grow up and become the Avatar the world needed, not pure luck, him.
The whole epilogue sequence after the war felt easily replacable. They could switch out the Maiko scene for a Zutara one to signify the union of nations, to symbolize a new beginning, one of forgiveness, of reparations, of restoration after the devastation of the 100 year war. And the Kataang forced moment like "after all the teasing and the back and forth and the uncertaintly, this is it, this is the endgame couple, we all clear?", it could have easily been Aang coming to terms with his Avatar status, having grown so much from the beginning of the journey to embracr his role as the guardian of the world, looking off into the future with hope and determination, with his friends by his side, not a lover, not a reward he'd won for all his troubles, not a self-insert romance victory for the boys.
But alas, debate within the writer's room had Kataang triumphing over the logical and thematically satisfying ending so... that's what we got.
I never understood why the Avatar Extras said "Kataang wins!" at the end if Kataang was always meant to be the "obvious endgame" and Zutara supposedly "wasn't even a contender". I thought it was a joke making fun of the fandom, but now that I have learned that Zutara was pushed by many of the ATLA writers (despite Bryke denying it was even considered for years), I think it was referring to the ship war that was going on in the writer's room.
"Kataang wins!" was originally a line that came from the script notes written by Bryke for the final episode, Elizabeth Welch directly references Zutara in her script notes for The Southern Raiders, John O'Bryan said that he supported Zutara but "lost that fight", and M. Night Shyamalan said that Bryke hadn't decided on who Katara should end up with even as Book 3 was being produced.
This would also help to explain why Guru Pathik said Aang needed to let go of Katara which was happening at the same time Zuko and Katara were bonding. Zuko was supposed to join at the end of Book 2 but after they decided against that, they totally dropped that arc of Aang needing to key go of Katara in Book 3 with no explanation.
The writing in this part of ATLA was always so strange to me. It seemed like it was being pulled around in different directions. If it was because the writers were having an argument over how the story should play out then the strange writing choices make so much more sense now.

I'd imagine after they interrogated the man they thought was Yon Rah, Katara wouldn't have the time nor the energy to explain the logistics of bloodbending to Zuko. She was still too angry and upset. So that whole time after, Zuko would have been confused and scared as hell. Like, no one ever told that boy something such as bloodbending existed, how was he supposed to figure out. He probably thought Katara picked up witchcraft somewhere along the way or something 💀💀💀

extremely important me that u all remember that a significant portion of zuko’s story can be summarised by people vocalising that a certain location is impossible to break into, which is immediately followed by zuko breaking into said location.

Some sweet tenderness. Astarion deserves a full-body hug and Halsin deserves to give it to him.

Do we know what happens if you drink spawn blood? Like we all know drinking from a vampire lord turns you into their spawn, but have we ever talked about if someone bites spawn!Astarion?
I may or may not be writing something that includes bloodplay and blood feeding and I'm curious. What if his lover(s) drink his blood? Are they gonna go into anaphylactic shock or...?

Series of Drawings of Astarion and Halsin to create a full scene. I didn’t anticipate fully redrawing the first one but I did.
Quote is from a book of a play in the Arcane Tower. It feels relevant for general Astarion romance.
