There could be all kinds of reasons why it was diminished in the writer's room, but it was an opportunity lost and some important characterization left out that explains so much about Gillian's caution, and her sheer gutsiness and the hard work she put into getting up and keeping going. Not that the show was ever much for continuity!

(This is why I had a bit about the two of them always walking down to to the office car park together, as they're usually the last two to leave. She didn't ask him to. He just does. And sometimes after bad cases, or when danger has come too close to them, he'll take the long way home and follow her all the way to her house just to see for himself that it's all clear. For his own peace of mind as much as hers. She can defend herself but she shouldn't have to do it alone. She's been attacked in her own home before. So she lets him. I think Lie To Me moved on a bit fast from the fact that Gillian was assaulted by a copycat rapist and would-be murderer and only avoided a more horrible fate because Cal and Reynolds got there in time

didn't even have to be a big storyline, just a quick mention to recall that it happened and that she's still dealing with it

her saying she hates walking anywhere alone at night, Cal walking her to her car when they leave the office late, her mentioning that she takes self defence classes to rebuild her confidence, especially once she's living alone, her mentioning that she's just come back from a deposition for the trial, that's all just stuff that can be added in a quick passing line but would have added a lot

The Selbstbestimmungsgesetz (self-identify law) allows trans and intersex people to change their name and gender in the civil registry much more easily than before by submitting a self-disclosure form. This will be possible starting on the 1. November 2024 while the self-disclosure forms can be submitted as early as 1. August 2024 because of the 3 month waiting period in the law. After a name and gender change the person will be barred from changing it again for one year. People of ages 14-17 will need the approval of a legal guardian to change their gender and name while for children under 14 the legal guardians can submit a form for the change.

I wrote a thing!

Internal Affairs (2.3K, T) Two lives collide like a slow chemical reaction. This is actually the intro for a whole how-they-met saga, starting from the Pentagon and moving through the Doyle affair and Gillian's involvement in the cover-up. But I honestly don't think I will ever have time to work on it, so I am setting it free!
