Angry
Concerned
Citizen.
Under the guise of activism
they picket rage
miscommunicate demands
create the chaos the system requires
to convince us we need it.
The
Focused
Thinking
Citizen,
the one who not only protests
but the one who listens.
The one who not only gets offended
but the one who really feels.
The one who looks at all sides
knowing it sometimes means overlooking their own.
The one who waits decades after death to be acknowledged
knowing it is our way to reject our history before we learn from it.
We need them more than ever.
Most importantly,
we need to convince them of that.

While a cigarette smoulders between slender fingers
I drive by too fast for a small town street
But in that moment I remember

There are two people who come to the table with me every morning.
The little girl, never certain of her worth, ashamed for the space she takes up in the universe (though she can never quite give a reason)
And the woman, who fights every day to make sure you never feel that way. The one who sees how hard you try…how hard you hope.
Considering they live within me, my only hope, is one of these mornings, we can have a meeting of the minds. There are never really any winners in the war that’s waged within.

Black Sheep Resists Surrender
We are bred to be assimilated.
Trained from birth to make use
of ten percent of our brain.
We are bred to chase the dollar
to the point that some
will take from another.
We are bred to own.
To seek contractual castles
that permit us to hoard the sky.
Our herds are growing in number
yet our shepherds are content
to place the strain upon our backs.
We are bred to spend.
Supporting secret tribes
that only covet power.
We are bred to birth
Quality bloodlines
stamped with a government seal of approval.
We are bred to kill
For the heard is only as strong as its weakest
and we must march despite the pain.
Our heard has found its injured
still the shepherds demand we march
rather than simply putting us out of our misery.
We are bred to march
To stay strong
To complete the food chain
We are bred as sustenance
So that the ruling class
May not know suffering.
I was born to know suffering
I was born to overcome
I was born to stop the march
Heal the wounded
Help those in need
and steer them clear from the slaughter.
