Ok so that newest ZR episode (season 10 mission 23)…. Spoilers below the cut
As always, I remain unsettled about much I truly enjoy Ernie. Same plant, different cutting for sure but there’s no way that voice and face don’t give 5 flashbacks every once in a while
Amelia’s anger about canton 5 continues to be delightful to me and I really hope she sends 5 after slava and Brent like her own personal attack dog when this is all said and done
But mostly, mostly it was the after mission email that got me. Oh Sara my sweet girl, that drawing 😭 I can’t imagine how hard it was for Sam to say goodbye AGAIN (s2s let Sam hang out with his kid!) but the image of daddy and magic 5, if that wasn’t a gift to 5am shippers then I don’t know what is

I think my hatred for Balduran is so funny. I love betrayal stories and I love come-uppance for the betrayal, but usually I'm just as quick to forgive the character.
Simon or Evan in Zombies Run both hurt, came out of nowhere and were instantly forgiven as soon as they came back to save me.
Lawrence in The Walk? My top 1 anime betrayal so far because even while he was monologuing, I thought "no way, this can't be true. He's too stupid for this to be a ploy but it has to be." Hell, he even shot one of my companions dead in front of me and I was still like "No, no, this can't be."
But I think Balduran is my favourite even on top of that. I thought the chances of him betraying me are 50:50 from the VERY start, and I think that's what makes it so great. Every turn it took, I was like "okay this changes my opinion slightly" just for there to be a scene in the opposite direction after that.
And don't get me wrong, I knew 100% that I was gonna have to physically fight and kill him over the hammer. I knew that. But I thought his reasoning would be "I'm trying to save the world and you're endangering that, so I'll have to eliminate that threat" - and NOT "Oh if you don't do 100% what I say, I WILL END THE WORLD MYSELF OUT OF SPITE".
Top 10 anime betrayals meme, even though I knew the betrayal was inevitable.
(And before you feel attacked: I'm completely fine with it if you liked Balduran. In my playthrough, he was an absolute narcisistic manipulator literally every chance he got, only to then claim that he's doing it for me. That was my experience. Your mileage may vary.)

Ok so we have our newest episode of season 10! Season 10, episode 4 - and I have some thoughts. Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t run it yet
Ok so first off, valmont can fuck all the way off. I really enjoyed the idea that every time he asks 5 (legs? Legs? He’s gonna call us legs? No thank you) to go on a run she tells him to go to hell
And Sam, love of our fictional lives, that opening message had me crying actual tears (not new for zombies run but always impressive)
This mission also had me actually rooting for the return of moonchild. There was one specific moment I was really hoping she’d come back and I’m really bummed she didn’t. I think my 5 would be too
Last thought for now, that the only person who is allowed to eventually strangle valmont with their own hands other than 5 is Amelia. I know that kind of physical violence isn’t her style but she deserves a chance. Listening to valmont talk about her was nauseating

The engagement of Runner Five headcanons ( spoilers for season 4,5 and 6)
Right, so I’ve hinted in the past that Sam has been considering a very important question for Five since just after season 3. Well, during season 4 and 5 Sam was....occupied.
He first had the whole ‘I’m going to marry this woman’ moment when Five did something really stupid but thoughtful.
She instigated a water fight to entertain and cheer up the kids of Abel during a heatwave one day, but as a result she got absolutely soaked, and got a lecture about the limited amount of water Abel actually had.
She also got a terrible cold after that was so bad that she was bedridden for two days and when Sam first saw her stuffed up in bed that first morning, sneezing and sniffling, he immediately thought ‘yep, she’s the one”
This scared him because it was early in their relationship, and he hadn’t even told her he loved her yet so he pushed it down in panic.
But then he began to think about it more seriously after the Abel University graduation ceremony.
He kind of had to be half talked into actually acting on it further by Maxine when she got wind of the situation, then he began talking seriously.
Obviously though a lot of time in season 4 was spent preparing for the newest addition to Abel.
It was only when he helped Five hold baby Sara after the whole zombie bite immunity situation for the first time and the way Five looked down at Sara as she did that he realised that he certainly made the right decision in thinking about it. Even if he wasn’t sure he wanted to marry Five (he was) the way she handled Sara was enough to convince him.
The meetings with Maxine became more frequent as they planned out his original plan.
Paula and Jody went on a almost impossible secret mission: ‘ring picking’ with Sam on cams and coms. Somehow not everyone had ransacked the rings in the jewellery store they ended up in that was swarming with Zombies and Paula picked up a ring which Sam knew was was the one. Jody swore it hadn’t been on a Zombs finger though.
Sam initially wanted to propose sooner but then Sigrid captured Abel and they had to go on the run.
So he resolved to do it as soon as they took back Abel, Sam could wait. He wanted it to be perfect.
But that took a while. And a scare of Runner Five getting captured, pretending to be on the ministry’s side, found out to be betraying the ministry, bitten by an actual zombie and thought to have gone grey for a few minutes. Oh and struggling with what would be later known as Moonchild syndrome (yep as of writing this I’ve just got to that part in ZRS6 where the thing going on with Five actually gets a name)
As I mentioned in a recent fic I wrote, with the New Canton Runner Five aka Five’s dad, long dead by now, and knowing Five would have wanted him to ask, Sam had to resort to asking Peter for her hand in marriage, as Simon was the closest thing she had to an older brother before his betrayal, she still saw him as such even after that point and she was had grown close to Peter as a result too. That hadn’t changed about their relationship.
Asking Peter went down swimmingly, really it went surprisingly well, but Peter did kind of ask why the heck he was asking him and why did he have to ask, joking that ‘I’m honoured Sam but it’s not the Victorian era Sam you don’t have to ask....no wait actually beat me in a duel first then you can marry her. But of course you can bloody marry her!’
Five was extremely oblivious to all of this proposal business by the way.
Although Moonchild did pick up on it and question and hint about it to her, she never actually got those hints.
Sam had the ring with him when he was captured by the ministry. But dropped it as he was being dragged across the training ground on the way to the place where he was tortured by Ian and later rescued by Five.
Funnily enough, Five picked up the ring. But Paula smartly threw her off by saying it was Maxine’s gifted by Paula it upon Sara’s birth and Maxine had given it to Paula for good luck on this mission.
So she handed it back to Paula, none the wiser. And Paula got it back to Sam when he began to panic that he had lost the ring.
Sam proposed at the raising of the ‘flag’ of victory/liberation. Sam made sure he was behind Five and facing everyone and Five was turned with her back to everyone else as Five actually doesn’t like to be the focus of attention, and tends to panic if she’s suddenly put on the spot in front of a large audience but EVERYONE witnessed it without Five realising at first.
Five’s reaction to the whole thing was nodding her head vigorously whilst fighting back tears of shock and happiness. Before flinging her arms around Sam and actually crying and muttering that she couldn’t believe anyone would want to spend the rest of their life with her.
Although she had a minor panic attack after answering when everyone began cheering and she realised everyone and not just her close knit friends were watching them.
Sam had to usher everyone away from her and calm her down, which he was very good at. She was fine, just a bit too overwhelmed.
Everyone was excited about it and happy for them.
They were in the comms shack, Sam had his arm wrapped around Five and Five huddled into him as they talked with the rest of the Noah base collective as they all excitedly talked about the wedding as Tom ran in with the message from Janine.
When they got into their bunk room, and tidied it up to make it suitable to sleep in, they had a talk about some of the preparations and when they were going to actually do it.
Five and Sam didn’t decide on anything really that night though.
Except that, after a fairly big discussion they decided that Jamie was going to have to officiate. ....if they can get him out of the Minister’s hands.
And that they’d have to beg Jack, Eugene, Zoe and Phil not to broadcast the news when they tell them.
....but that could be easier said than done and could wait until the morning. For the moment, Five’s just happy she can finally build a future of her own with Sam.

yeah so I promptly ended the last mission on the second to last story clip when Sam BRUTALLY DIES LIKE A DOG, and I DID NOT LIKE THAT
anybody have any comforting words or other Alternate Universe Missions I could play to get the horrible taste of my-favorite-character-betrayed-me-then-died out of my mouth? I've played all of the AUs I can find that still have ZR characters in them, I think, but I know I haven't run all the seasons' side missions...

Ranking my versions of my Five based off of her levels of unhinge-ness.
Read more below just because there could be some stuff considered spoilers?
1: NL!Callista Glover. “The Red Soldier” (my own personal AU) This bitch crazy and traumatized. Lived in Red Scorpion Base and was basically a test subject and didn’t meet Team Abel until S9. Do not turn your back on her ever. She will kill with no remorse. Feels everything and nothing all at the same time. Girly is in her Reputation Era and doesn’t plan on getting out of it any time soon.
2. ZR!Callista Glover. “Runner 5” (main series) She isn’t in her Reputation Era just yet but she’s close. Her mind is literally breaking and she’s been traumatized ten times over and her marriage fell apart in front of her eyes. Like girl needs therapy, meds, a vacation, the whole works. She’s approximately two seconds away from snapping and killing everyone.
3: Ista-Glow. “Rookie” (Dystopia Rising) She is a mercenary. What would you expect? Also major parental issues. Has died before and in Dystopia Lore coming back is a horribly kind breaking thing so def has baggage from that.
4. Evangeline Freeman. “Walker” (The Walk) Has mental health issues at the beginning but isn’t really unhinged at the beginning of her story. Slowly becomes more unhinged as the story goes on. Will definitely need therapy.
5. Callista ‘Cal’ Glover. “Rider” (Dragon Flight) This version of Callista is 14. Do you know how unhinged 14-year-olds are? I don’t think I need to say any more.
6. Glass Woman “Five” (Endless Sea add-on story) Poor girl loses her memory and has black glass armor. Doesn’t talk to the aliens on the planet she resides on much and doesn’t let them ever see her in the forest where she lives. If unhinged because she is very casual about breaking and entering into the literal castle of the alien royalty and bossing the king and queen around and getting them to do what she wants. Isn’t super high on the list just because she doesn’t ask for much or anything drastic.
7. Callista Elizabeth ‘Eliza’ Glover. “Apprentice Five” (Abel’s Buccaneers). Literally became Dr. Samuel’s apprentice because her sister abandoned her on the streets of a place she’d never been in because she flew off the rails after her fiancé died. Fell in love with Dr. Samuel because he gave her the tiniest bit of affection. Girly needs therapy. Not unhinged as the others but as some issues she needs to work on.
8. Callista Glover. “Specialist Five” (Venus Rising). Goes on a mission while dying so she can spend more time with her secret bf. When secret bf does she blames the Captain for not doing anything and plots to kill her even while running for her life. Ends up doing so after the last mission of the series. Ironically becomes the last one surviving when she is dying of a terminal disease. Although that last part doesn’t make her unhinged. Everything else though…
9. Callie Morse. “Stoker Five” (Mystery at 4000 Fathoms). Slightly unhinged due to grief. Literally loses it when she can’t find her locket with her late husband’s picture in the beginning. But she does start the healing process at the end of the new adventure.
10. Celeste. “Bellhop” (Hotel Hijinks). Not really unhinged, but does whatever unhinged stuff she’s told to do, like getting into a dumbwaiter to spy on others. This is especially unhinged for Celeste because she’s hard of hearing/mostly deaf so she’d have to peak through and read lips.
11. Quinn (Rule Britannia series). Not really unhinged, although we could say she’s crazy for dealing with so much bullshit for as long as she has. But for the most part is very level headed and isn’t completely murderous.
12. Detective Glover. “Runner 13” (The 13th Runner). The most level headed of them all. Has a brain cells and actually uses them. No inning was unless we consider how the story could end which can go which her going to most unhinged or remaining least unhinged. But during the mission she is not unhinged and is super prepared. Is a bit of a workaholic though.

**********Spoilers for Zombies Run Season 5********
I ran today for the first time in a while. Been struggling with a lot of health issues recently, had the worst migraine of my life not too long ago, took a bit to recover from that and then we've been dealing with heat index of 107-110 nearly every day for the past few weeks. So running has been hard because h e a t. But I got a gym membership and despite not having run on a treadmill in over five years I figured I'd give it a go!
So I loaded up the next episode, Stay Alive, and when I started I was just trying to focus on running but uh. The MOMENT I heard Sam's voice I legit covered my mouth with my hands and teared up. I looked and it's been two months for me to get here from the episode where Five get's taken. It's been two months since I heard his voice and it's been a r o u g h two months for me. So Yeah not only has Zombies, Run! made me cry out in public and in forests/fields, but I can add the gym to that list. Because that ending. I had just slowed down to a walk when everything was happening with the zom and trying to get away from it and then I *heard* it and I immediately *knew* that I'd been bitten and just. The pure panic in Sam's voice, and then that ending clip was awful I was just tearing up so bad and sprinting for my life trying to get through as if that effected anything and I just. The adrenaline was so much, hearing Sam's haunted scream and begging me that "he couldn't go through this" or see it and then the roar of the? Zombie???? Me??? at the end was just. Awful. That five second beat of silence after before a very dull "mission completed" and no preview for the next episode was HEARTBREAKING. I couldn't run another one tonight because of reasons and fuck me I'm going to be out there tomorrow running aren't I. Because respectfully, WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! DID I JUST DIE????????
