If you’re in a relationship and every time you want to buy something for yourself, even something really frivolous, you feel like you can’t do it because of how your partner will react if they find out…why? Like, what is that? There’s so much “tee hee I’ll have to hide this parcel from them” or “omg I’ll be in trouble if I buy ANOTHER pair of shoes” and like unless you’re being financially irresponsible to the point where you won’t be able to contribute your half to a shared expense and you’re leaving the other person with an unfair difference to make up or something, why do they give a shit how you spend your money?

hi. sound off. who’s not dead
my extended break from all socmed, while beneficial in manners regarding self motivation and productivity re: hobbies… has the unexpected consequence of being a bit lonely LOL
tumblr is a place where posts live forever and you can find people dedicated to the nichest shit. and i’m tired of trying to find people who share the niches on things i enjoy in random discord servers
…which is to say i’ll maybe be posting again. i’ve been really fixated on 3d animation and trying to find people who share that interest who are just hobbyists is haaaaaard. but expect some of those to be popping up :}
cuz i just want an outlet to share my funny little ocs as it’s always been

Randomly remembered the half-reason i call my oc-verse by the name it has while laying in bed. One-half of the reason i still knew, but I had forgotten what had truly, really cemented it jointly until now
(it was a song from my favourite band I haven't listened to in a while.)
(the song fit so well at the time, still does, that i needed to hold onto it for the main protagonists forever, by partially naming their story in reference.)
Does this explanation make any sense? Does anyone know why I'm tearing up remembering this. Aahh
#(I'm emotional because I've been feeling bad about it all lately. enjoying things I make I mean—art or ocs or frivilous things.)#(So remembering that song and when it came out. That I couldn't see them in person. But i held onto it my own way. As something I loved)#(Something I still do love a lot... Parts of me saying no—you don't hate it. No. I'll help you remember more. I'm a little misty about it.)#The song is just The Killers - Run For Cover. I couldn't see them in person all those years ago—family went without me.#All my new oc rework with Zin and Hunter and Caia were like a year old or so.#It's a little silly. But the character Zin's derived from was a lightning mage so I stuck to it—I like monhun's zinogre for what its worth#So there's recurring theme and imagery. Thunder's not lightning but the sound and the feeling after the flash the flame and strike.#There's that meaningful thought—the story is the aftermath of a big tragedy. It matches what I like in monsters and other chars.#And at that time—my favourite band I missed out on puts out a really good song I download everywhere and it goes like:#He motioned me to the sky/ I heard heaven and thunder cry/ Run for cover/ Run while you can baby don't look back/ You gotta run for cover#And it goes on of course. The rest of the song's still really good. There's more that fits but point is; More evocative imagery.#So there. Why my bundle of OCs—Zinadia Hunter and Caia's story—is called Thunder 20XX. minus the 20XX. That's tongue-in-cheek#About some day I'll manage to make something tangeable or broadly shareable with them. I guarentee this century!#Thunder... oh my darling Thunder. Eight years man. More than that if I really want to count pre-rework INTO the complete original work. but#I like that it's definably 8. I like that I remembered I've always loved them a lot. Always been my thing to lean on even by name...#I need to get to sleep. Ive gotten a little more emotional over one song than I'd rather regularly be. Give it a listen maybe? Goodnight#Armour clanking#I need an oc tag#What have you gathered to report to your progenitors?🎶Are your excuses any better than your senator's🎶He held a conference#and his wife was standing by his side🎶He did her dirty but no-one died🎶#I saw Sonny Liston on the street last-night black-fisted and strong singing🎶Redemption song🎶#He motioned me to the sky🎶I heard heaven and thunder cry🎶RUN FOR COVER#What are you waiting for—a kiss or an apology?🎶You think by now you'd have an A in toxicology🎶#It's hard to pack the car when all you do is shame us🎶Even harder when the dirtbag's famous🎶#I saw my mother on the street last night all pretty and strong singin🎶The road is long🎶#I said 'Mama I know you tried!'🎶But she fell on her knees and cried🎶RUN FOR COVER#Just run for cover - you've got nothin left to lose...

I love how I watched Justice is Blind, saw the sheer height that the person Takuma kicked over reached in comparison to everyone else (implying that mbr jumped when everyone else got pulled), went "Is that Kenta "Born-to-be-a-Showman" Kamiya?" and it was.

[ffxivwrite2023] prompt 8: shed
The hair in the comb was bleached-white.
D’zinhla shook her head, a sharp motion that continued down her spine to end with a lash of her tail. Some stray hairs dislodged by the action floated in the low-light sunbeam in her Crystarium quarters, and she peered at them with intense scrutiny, reaching out to try to catch one. After a few false starts, she had one in hand, fur from her tail that gleamed that awful, unnatural white as those she’d captured in the comb.
She sighed, flicking her tail close and taking hold of it to examine more closely. It had more color now than it did some time ago, yet it was shot through with those silvery colorless strands that seemed intent on reflecting any light shone upon them. At least they no longer outnumbered the hair that did have color. That color was still not right, but she was reluctantly concluding that her original sand-and-stone light brown hair color would not return.
Or her original skin tone. Her skin was also too-pale, notably shades lighter than she was accustomed to. And when she looked back into the mirror, the eyes that looked back at her were watered-down, no longer the spring green of new leaves. Perhaps there were peridots in this weak color, but when her mother had compared her eyes to that gemstone in her youth, it was a much more vibrant shade.
At least it was better than the too-bright white.
Wicked white. A common oath here on the First, even now with night returned and the light wardens ended. D’zinhla couldn’t fully understand the years spent in terror as sin-eaters stalked the land, the feelings held within Norvrandt’s survivors as they lost kith and kin to the voracious beings. Nor could she say that she understood the feelings of those who had survived an attack only to be infected by that stasis of aether, the gradual stilling of their being in uncanny contrast to the sudden transformation into monstrosity that awaited them. She had not lived those years of fear. She couldn’t understand what those victims had felt.
What she knew was the burn of concentrated light aether blazing inside her from the heat of a campfire, to a furnace, to a white-hot sun, the oppressive brilliance that had seared away the very pigment from her body. It had burned over the course of what was perhaps a week or two, from beginning to end. Time had been difficult enough to keep with all that had happened, let alone with the delineations of days rendered meaningless by the lack of night. At any rate, she had lived in the presence of this horror for far less time than anyone else in Norvrandt, and she couldn’t claim to understand the feelings that had spawned that curse, but wicked white had been an apt description of the colorlessness that had become her.
She examined her face in the mirror. She did look better with color in her eyebrows and eyelashes, so it was nice to see that had reappeared. If, again, not as dark as it had once been.
Of course the light aether itself was long since gone, her soul no longer shattered and coming apart at the seams (and she paused a moment on that and the tangle of emotions it awakened). It would have been nice if her appearance had been restored at the same time. She hadn’t missed the looks that others gave her, the sometimes startled expressions, when she’d been whitely colorless. She’d taken to wearing the wide-brimmed hat of her bardic attire wherever she went, or putting on a hooded cloak, just to try to make it less immediately noticeable – or at least allow her to hide a bit further from the looks. And from the sunlight; a cruel irony that a Seeker of the Sun had found herself too sensitive to the rays of Azeyma’s symbol.
Which reminded her, she’d best cover up today, and she fell back into thought as she selected some clothes from her wardrobe.
It’d led to a certain poetic point of gossip, her friends of the Crystarium reported to her, that the Warrior of Darkness was awash in the echoes of the light she’d ended, that the darkness was stolen from her very self when she returned it to the First. Inaccurate, and her “darkness” was very much still present (and possessed of her own selfhood, and opinions), but her bardic nature could see the appeal of the story.
They will be telling those stories for years to come, remarked that opinionated darkness. It’d be nice if they could get some aspects of it right. All we can do is leave the records we can, and hope that those who come after have no overriding agenda. D’zinhla flicked her tail in a gesture of welcome alongside her philosophical words, as she fastened the buttons on her shirt.
You sound resigned to the eventual epic to be made of your deeds.
Resigned, yes, but gods do I hope that it won’t be too egregious. She couldn’t help the weary smile. People will say what they say, and write what they write, and however loudly I protest might even make it worse. But I would really rather my part not be so elevated.
Warrior of Light, Warrior of Darkness, either way I don’t see much hope of that. Her shadow’s voice was scornful.
She agreed wordlessly, huffing a small sigh as she finished buckling her boots. Still. I can hope.
You’ve no shortage of that, for certain.
And I don’t intend for that to change. Now. She stood before the mirror, eying her attire. Think this will work for an expedition into the Empty? To unknown concentrations of Light and anomalous aetherial fluctuations?
I think your guess is as good as mine as to how suitable it is for all that, but at least you’ll cut a striking figure. She felt a flush in her cheeks. Good enough, then, she tried to think lightly, feeling a subtle ripple of amusement in return. Uncertain why the casual compliment had so unbalanced her, she decided to put it out of mind, and focus on the new mission ahead.

Recent renovations in Shadowsong Estate, the FFXIV in-game and in-character home of my Warrior of Light, D’zinhla, and her partner, Airraim. A library/study with conservatory windows, and an experimental use of space and way of displaying tier 3 metal fish tanks that turned out nicer than I hoped. Excited for new furnishing items and new aquarium fish in patch 6.3!

It’s a ridiculously pretty day so I decided to go buy a bao bun and a pear and go sit in the park with my book which sounds like such a pleasant experience in theory but now I’m sitting in the park with my silly little blanket and my silly little hat on and my silly little lunch feeling more violently embarrassed than any other person has felt in the history of humankind but I refuse to leave because I am here to have a nice motherfucking time so help me god

Things of Note at @neil-gaiman ‘s NJPAC talk:
1. Do you people understand that he switches into accents when he reads? Do you people know he does a perfect Michael Sheen impression? did you know it’s also hot
2. He used to cold call publishers/mags to see if they’d publish his work. He’d lie when asked what other magazines he wrote for; they’d think he was more legitimate and would, therefore, be more likely to take him on themselves. “You couldn’t get away with that now” thanks to Google. Also, back then, “we had telephones and we used them,” but today’s publishers would not easily recover if you unexpectedly called them on the phone.
3. It was a personal point of pride for Neil to write for each of the magazines he’d claimed to have written for. He said “I didn’t lie. I was chronologically challenged.”
4. Neil made a deliberate effort to not be boxed in by publishers. He’d interviewed many authors who were unhappily boxed and did everything he could to avoid it, including declining big contracts from prestigious publishers (notably after American Gods). This is why he can write what he likes now. Comics writing spoiled him in this regard, as publishers mistook the medium for a genre, and therefore didn’t care what he wrote (so he wrote all the genres he wanted to in Sandman).
5. He hates Thomas Hardy thanks to being introduced to him in school. Regarding being forced to read Tess of the D’urbervilles, he said “I wouldn’t do that to a dog”. He hopes students, who might have liked him if they found him on their own, don’t encounter his work in school and hate him for it.
6. “The evil characters (you write) don’t possess you, you try to find the little bit of you in them….the little bit of you that is gloriously evil.”
7. “I touched the magic and passed it along” this was a line from Watching from the Shadows that especially moved me.
8. Terry was increasingly upset as the bidding on Good Omens increased (eventually reaching 150,000 - can’t remember if he said $ or £). For his part, when the book finally sold, Neil put on Iggy Pop’s Success and danced.
9. Anansi Boys should be out on Prime by the end of 2024!
10. Described Sandalphon as someone you want to “hit with a large oar”. (The woman next to me, who was extremely stingy with her applause, hooted like an owl at this and clapped til the last).
11. Pronounces Amazon as “Ama-zin” and Los Angeles as “Los Angelese”. This isn’t noteworthy, but I liked it enough to write it down.
12. “Being on a beach in bare feet” was the line that led Neil to realize David Tennant would be perfect for Crowley.
13. He is pictured on the ALA’s poster holding Wind in the Willows because, as a child, “it messed up my head.” He said he is “in love” with a chapter in the middle called The Piper at the Gates of Dawn where the characters meet Pan. It’s often left out of printings, which makes him sad because it is “strange, beautiful, luminous”.
14. TOATEOTL was originally planned to go to Broadway. Then, Covid. They did a “world tour” instead. Now that it’s wrapped, talks about Broadway are happening. He says all of adaptations of his work, this is his favorite.
15. “Disney’s Aladdin plays four times a day in Hell”
16. His favorite question of the night was “WHY did you think of the Other Mother?” He was tickled by the word choice of “why”
17. Asked the library in Sussex “What have you got in the way of really good horror for four year olds?” Obviously none existed so he wrote Coraline.
18. Talked about going viral for being in a falafel, seemed to marvel at the progression of the meme’s meaning.
19. “Tumblr is its own madness”
20. “Stephen King has fabulous stories about meeting fans in toilets, including being passed a book under the stall”
21. Read “The Day the Saucers Came” which I misheard initially as Sauces. Saucers is definitely better.
22. “You want to see me doing Dickens?” I laughed inappropriately at this. I was the only one.
23. I don’t want to say what pieces he read because I want you to buy tickets to his events. But it was very nice to be read to by Neil Gaiman.
It’s very worth it to go. I flew out from San Diego for this and would do it again in a heartbeat!
