ZERO WASTE AIR TRAVEL: WHAT TO BRING ✈️✈️✈️
Tumblr media
✈️ SILVERWARE
If you fly overseas, you’re likely to have two meals on the plane. For many airlines, that means 2 plastic spoons, 2 plastic forks, 2 plastic knives, disposable napkins, possibly sugar or salt and plastic sleeves. Airport security really will let you through with actual silverware. You can bring an extra mismatched fork and spoon, so that if they do take it from you it's not something you'll miss. Wipe them off between meals or use one for each meal.
✈️ LIQUID CONTAINERS If you bring a full water bottle or coffee mug, they’ll ask you to chug whatever is in it or throw it out, so make sure it's empty. You can bring a water bottle and an insulated travel cup and fill both with water before the flight. This way, you can reduce your need of water from the bottles, or not need it all. Ask for your coffee or tea in your own cup.
✈️ FOOD IN REUSABLE CONTAINERS If you can avoid the airline food, do so. Everything comes overly packaged and wrapped in plastic and foil. Traveling for only a week or so, you can try pack a meal (or two) and try to avoid the unnecessary waste.
✈️ BLANKET/EYE MASK Some airlines will also provide you with plastic bags containing small pillows and blankets. You should bring an extra sweater or a heavy scarf to bundle up because planes can be pretty cold. Bring a blanket scarf and an eye mask to feel warmer and you don't have to worry about who used it before, if it was destined for the trash, if the polyester would be washed and release microplastics into the water systems. -------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! Went back to @thekindbowl_sg pho some pho and sipped bubble tea, #zerowastestyle. Brought and use my own glass straw, although they do provide bamboo straws. I now bring my own cutlery, including straw, everywhere I go. Just to avoid the need to throw away another one time use disposables whatever. Enjoying a good meal and drink doesn't have to create and add more waste to the planet. This delicious meal was totally waste free, and cruelty-free. No meat. Everything is in my tummy. Served in reusables. Burp. . . #myzerowastejourney #meatlessmoday #wellnesswednesday . . (at The Kind Bowl) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEHcZSkHk_0/?igshid=1ad8adf8886hp

17 Creative Ways to Reuse Cardboard Boxes (Part 1)
Tumblr media
📦 Re-Gifting A handwritten thank-you card will never go unappreciated. So what could be better than using the original gift box to craft your message? Cardboard "postcards" can be sent as is; no envelope needed. 📦 Dinner Circles Whip up a set of these delightful napkin rings with a cardboard tube from a roll of plastic wrap or foil. About one-quarter yard of your favorite fabric will be more than enough for eight rings; use fabric glue or double-sided tape to secure the cloth to the inside of each cardboard coil. 📦 Contain Your Excitement Here's a natural idea: Dress up a simple cardboard box with a few embellishments, then line it with a plastic bag poked with a few drainage holes. You are now ready to move a plant into a pretty new home. 📦 Child's Play Help little ones hone their fine motor skills with this clever shape-sorter toy. Fluted dowel pins make it easy to guide the colorful shapes into place. 📦 Stylish Storage Making this trio of storage totes is simpler than you might think. Gold screw bolts and spray adhesive hold the fabric covers in place, and an old belt finds new purpose as a carrying strap. 📦 Cat Scratch Fever Save your furniture—and impress your favorite feline—with this scratching pad made from corrugated cardboard boxes. The painted outer rim is optional. -------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

THE BEST REUSABLE COFFEE CUPS FOR YOUR TAKE-AWAY COFFEE
Tumblr media
The combination of form, functionality and eco-friendliness makes these cups worth holding on to. Recycling has become a hot-button issue for many Australians. Between the exposés on recycled goods ending up in landfill and the hard truths around the unsustainable volume of waste we generate, the general consensus is that separating your rubbish is no longer enough: we need to cut down our consumption of plastics, period. Coffee cups are an easy – and necessary – place to start: it's estimated that more than three billion take-away coffee cups are sold in Australia each year, many of them non-recyclable. The solution, of course, is a reusable coffee cup. Lucky for you, now more than ever, there are plenty of beautiful cups to choose from; some even pay for your coffee for you. And, in another win for the planet, many reusable cups are made locally. The hardest decision is which to make a part of your daily routine. Zero Waste Camping Tips
Tumblr media
TOILETRIES: 💚 Bamboo toothbrush Instead of buying a plastic toothbrush, get yourself a bamboo alternative. They are exactly the same, but are just made of eco-friendly biodegradable materials! 💚 Homemade cosmetics Pack your toiletries from home. Stock up on small re-usable containers and put things like face cream, cosmetics, toothpaste, sunscreen and homemade hand sanitizer in them. 💚 Cotton washcloth Ditch the wet wipes and opt for a cotton washcloth instead. After use, attach it to your backpack and let it dry naturally. 💚 Menstrual cup The menstrual cup is the most waste-free sanitary product on the market and with a bit of practice, it’s pretty easy to use.   💚 Bleach-free toilet paper & ziplock bag If you’re not a fan of the “shake dry” method, you can either use a pee rag which you should wash regularly or opt for bleach-free toilet paper. Once used, keep it in a ziplock bag and then flush the paper away when you’re at a campsite or back home.   ------ Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

A Zero Waste Car Kit
Tumblr media
First off, what is a zero waste car kit? Basically — it’s the collection of items you always have stored in your car that’ll help reduce your waste while you are out and about in the world. This includes items needed for grocery shopping, coffee buying, eating out, etc. 1. A cardboard box: Use whatever you have — a canvas bag, an Amazon box, a reusable shopping bag. 2. Items used when grocery shopping: This includes your reusable shopping bags and produce bags. 3. Mason jars (recommended the 16 oz. size): These come in handy for multiple scenarios. You can use them when buying bulk at the grocery store or farmer’s market. Or if you’re craving a frappuccino from Starbucks and your reusable coffee cup won’t hold all the delicious whipped cream. Or you just need some water from the park water fountain. 4.  Eating out items: A fork/spoon and reusable straw wrapped in a cloth napkin ready to go when going to someplace with only plastic options. Keep a reusable coffee cup for any on the go hot beverage purchases. 5. Take-out container. A lunch box that I keep in the car for when you need to take home leftovers from a restaurant. containers you have in the house. Put together whatever you already have at home in a little “kit” and you won’t be caught off guard when out in a world that hasn’t 100% caught on to reducing waste just yet. ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

Zero Waste Zoodles With Heirloom Tomatoes and Pesto
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
4 medium zucchini
2 medium heirloom tomatoes, chopped
2 cups chopped cremini mushroom caps
1/2 cup basil pesto
Olive oil
Salt
Pine nuts (optional)
Equipment:
Spiralizer or vegetable peeler
Colander
How to make zoodles with heirloom tomatoes and pesto:
1. Grate or spiralize your zucchini into thin noodle shapes, as desired
2. Lightly toss your zucchini with a small amount of salt, then let your zoodles rest and drain in your colander or kitchen sieve.
3. Heat a small amount of olive oil in a medium sauce pan over medium heat and add your tomatoes. Cook until your tomatoes begin to release their juices, about 5 minutes, and add in your mushrooms and cook until soft and cooked through, about 5-10 minutes.
4. Stir in your pesto and let simmer until flavors have melded and your sauce has thickened somewhat.
5. Pour off the excess liquid from your zucchini and blot with a clean towel, if necessary. This will prevent you from having watery noodles.
6. Divide your zoodles among your bowls and top with sauce. Add toasted pine nuts for additional flavor and crunch, if desired!

Buying Secondhand Clothes is Awesome
Tumblr media
There are plenty of reasons why you should buy secondhand clothing, many of which actually benefit you personally, no matter your lifestyle. Buying secondhand clothes also benefits the environment in a big way, making it a win-win. 1. Buying second-hand clothing saves money. As you probably already know, you can save an incredible amount of money shopping for secondhand clothes. 2. You extend a garment’s life-cycle. 3. Buying used promotes sustainable fashion. Another reason why you should buy secondhand clothing is that it promotes sustainable fashion. Buying secondhand clothing is a big part of the slow fashion movement and a key factor when you’re starting to create a sustainable wardrobe. A sustainable wardrobe is filled with secondhand clothing and/or clothing made by slow fashion brands, both of which do wonders for the environment. 4. Secondhand clothing is unique. If you want one-of-a-kind clothing, shopping secondhand is a great way to get them. 5. Buying used clothing saves resources. When shopping secondhand clothing, you’re saving resources and doing the environment a solid favor. 6. Reduces fast fashion demand. When you purchase secondhand clothing instead of buying new from retailers, you’re reducing the demand for fast fashion. 7. Another man’s trash… Is another man’s treasure. This saying holds true for secondhand clothing as well. 8. It’s easier to shop secondhand. In second-hand clothing stores, everything is usually sorted by size, making it a breeze when searching for clothes to buy. 9. Secondhand clothes last longer. Some of these clothes were created before fast fashion started becoming so widespread. Since they are pre-fast fashion, they are better made and meant to stand the test of time. ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

ZERO WASTE COFFEE ROUTINE
Tumblr media
Coffee comes a long way before it even gets to us. and commercially branded coffee is one of the most heavily polluted food products on the market. Your morning brew also comes with a side of deforestation, exploitation, pollution, plastic packaging, oh, and tons of carbon emissions 1. Choose Better Beans All coffee starts with the bean. Do you know where yours comes from? It’s important when making your coffee consumption mindful to choose fair-trade beans. Beans you know were sourced ethically and are organic. 2. Skip The Disposable Coffee Products If you insist on using your Keurig, we encourage you to buy reusable coffee pods. If you’re using a regular coffee pot, a pour-over or even a Chemex, use reusable coffee filters. Not only will this save you a TON of money but will also help you radically reduce waste. 3. Grind Your Own Beans Not only does it taste WAY better, but it’s also a more eco-friendly option. Try grinding your own beans with this manual coffee bean grinder! 4. Get A Reusable To-go Cup An average of 7 million disposable cups are thrown away each day. At this point, there are simply no more excuses for single-use cups. Most to-go cups have a thin layer of polyurethane on the inside making them non-recyclable. Make sure to bring a reusable mug with you and ask coffee shops to put your drink in it. You could save hundreds of coffee cups a year. 5. Support Coffee Shops That Use Fair-trade Coffee This might take a little research on your part but it’s seriously worth it knowing your pennies are supporting the livelihoods of hard-working farmers. 6. Re-use Your Coffee Grounds Don’t throw out your coffee grounds just yet! There are a couple of ways you can use your used coffee grounds to reduce even less waste! Not only are coffee grounds totally compostable but are also great to use in your garden as a fertilizer! Other than that you could use them as a natural wood stain or even in DIY body scrubs! Because they smell AH-MAZING! ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Let Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!
