Remnants of Filth, vol. 2 spoiler read at your own risk
Gu Mang is slowly starting to get his memories. His first one is a memory of he and Mo Xi spending a hot night together celebrating Mo Xi’s birthday. I’m only sharing a short part, but basically for Mo Xi’s birthday, Gu Mang had bought a book full of debauchery and sexy couple positions and is trying (in a teasingly way) to have Mo Xi read it with him while lying on Mo Xi’s bed.
“You’ve closed your eyes again!” [Gu Mang] admonished. “Open them up!”
Mo Xi said nothing.
“It doesn’t count if your eyes are closed. Your ge is teaching you how to hook up with girls. You’d better pay attention.”
Silence. Mo Xi had seen people get wildly drunk, but he’d never before seen a wild drunk force his brothers to read porn with him.
Gu Mang had no plans to show him the most exciting picture right away, instead flipping through the pages one by one. Every once in a while, he turned his head to check that Mo Xi hadn’t looked away. The tent was very quiet. Gu Mang knew that page was coming ever closer. He didn’t know if it was because of his penchant for teasing this icy beauty, or for some other reason, but his heart was racing.
Mo Xi’s breathing also roughened, likely in response to Gu Mang’s own agitated state. With each exhale, his searing breath brushed across Gu Mang’s temple and his firm chest pressed against his back, as if shorting up for a storm that neither of them could control.
So warm. So hot.
They slowly made their way through the book. Gu Mang knew exactly how many pages were left before that picture of two men entwined. At first, he had been in a rush to reach that page and share the enjoyment of it with Mo Xi. But the atmosphere between the two of them gradually grew more strange—there seemed to be an invisible stream of heat passing between them where their bodies nestled together. All of a sudden, that dating jokester had second thoughts.
“Why don’t we stop here?”
“Weren’t you trying to show me something special?”
They spoke at almost the same time. Gu Mang turned his face, the tip of his nose almost brushing Mo Xi’s cheek.
It was like the air in the tent had thickened, becoming too hot to flow and too dense to dissipate. Gu Mang sensed danger, like he’d fallen into a trap of his own making, like he’d burned himself playing with fire. He parted his lips in an attempt to speak, but he couldn’t make a sound.
Mo Xi narrowed his eyes, watching him from mere inches away. “You were, weren’t you?”
“How special could it be? Ah ha ha.” The next page was that page. Gu Mang swallowed, half-wanting to slam the book shut then and there.
But Mo Xi, who had previously loathed the little booklet like nothing else, had scented a subtle change in the air. He snatched the book away with his elegant, powerful hand, and his long fingers reached out to turn the page. Gu Mang closed his eyes with a sense of impending doom.
It was silent. Neither of them moved, neither made a sound. After a few moments, Gu Mang couldn’t bear the suspense. He cracked his eyelids to sneak a quick peek. He saw Mo Xi wearing an inscrutable, complicated expression as he examined the painting of one man fucking another man. His eyes flickered.
The aura emanating from Mo Xi was too strange. Even drunk, Gu Mang still shivered at the sight of him. He summoned up a forced smile and made to get up. “Um, Shidi, congratulations on coming of age. It’s gotten late. Gege’s going to go back now, I—“
He hadn’t finished the sentence when Mo Xi pinned him back down. As before, Gu Mang was lying on his side, Mo Xi against his back. However, Mo Xi had intentionally left some distance between them earlier. His chest had been pressed to Gu Mang’s back, but they hadn’t been touching anywhere else.
Right now, Mo Xi had basically pulled Gu Mang flush against his body. Gu Mang immediately felt something very large and hard push against him and even thrust forward.
“Mngh…” Gu Mang let out a muffled gasp. The alcohol, the new sensation, the terrifying taboos, and his accumulated lust all combined to make him incredibly sensitive. A humid, fiery voice rumbled against his ear, the rough, deep desire audible within making his wine-softened body tremble all over. Somehow, he didn’t know that voice at all. Mo Xi panted raggedly into his ear. “Was this what Shige wanted me to see so badly?”
“No…I…ah…”
Gu Mang only managed a handful of words before his earlobe was captured by a warm mouth, soon followed by a roughy tongue licking around and into his ear. Gu Mang was instantly sapped of strength, the unfamiliar sensations drawing a moan from his lips. “Ah.”
(PP 278-280)
Just so you all know there’s more to this scene. I read it at work and had to go hide in the break room for a bit because I was blushing so bad at the interaction between them. If any of you want more sneak peak of this scene let me know and I’ll share it when I have time.

Web Novel Quotes Tournament: Round 2-A, Match 33
Quote A:
“This life of mine, this heart of mine… Are all in your Majesty’s hands. Without a heart, without a life, what’s the point of setting this empty shell free? I would rather die wholly on your hands than to live in this world as an empty shell. At least… I would be glad to die on your Majesty’s hands. I could close my eyes in death.”  - Qi Yan, Clear and Muddy Loss of Love, Chapter 271
Quote B:
“Just because, back then, I loved you more than I feared death.” - Remnants of Filth (Tumblr - Link 1, Link 2)
[Propaganda below]
Quote A
Submission: This quote comes after Nangong Jingnu has just had Qi Yan secretly kidnapped after she issued a public order to banish her. Qi Yan begs Jingnu to kill her rather than send her away. Qi Yan is under the impression that Jingnu hates her for killing her father and brothers (which is a fair impression considering Jingnu did have Qi Yan tortured and exiled for that a few chapters ago). What is notable is this quote is a complete switch from Qi Yan’s sentiments earlier in the novel where she vows to kill Jingnu last in her journey for revenge against the Nangong family. She has let go of her revenge (for the most part since the main perpetrators are dead) and she desires to have Jingnu kill her instead cuz she cannot bear to part from her. Fun stuff

Yuwu is so good. And I'm loving it more and more every chapters. Meatbun wrote such complex character's relationships and emotional scenes. The fluff, the comedy and the angst are so well balanced. 2ha and Yuwu are definitely my cup of tea!

I am almost done with Yu Wu, and I will likely read the official when it releases to see if I like it better upon a reread, but the only person I actually like unconditionally in this book is Gu Mang

ask game
5. What genre did you read the most of?
oh def SFF + some litfic - wanted to read more nonfiction this year, but I hadn't managed to alas. idk why - all the nonfiction nonfiction books I've read (thinking of Emperor of All Maladies and She Has Her Mother's Laugh specifically) ended up being a favourite of some sort. adhd is a cruel cruel mistress ig!
9. Did you get into any new genres?
SFF that's like. good.* no I'm kidding hdaskjlghasdjg uhhh. looking at Goodreads rn this's the year I've gotten into literary fiction. bit of a surprise to me (thought it was earlier) but yeah so that
*taking a closer look at the books I've read in 2022 that's an unfair assessment but in my defence the first books I saw when I opened that page were some of my most hated/aggressively mid books of 2022. so.

Web Novel Quotes Tournament: Round 2-C, Match 41
Quote A:
“She wanted to tell him. Tell him that there was a world that didn't need his sacrifice to be saved. She thought that, if it was her, she should be able to do it.  Because she was most proficient at lying than anyone alive, after all.” - Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, Chapter 539
Quote B:
"It's alright, even if you aren't a son of nobility anymore, you are still you, and in your heart there's a spark, sooner or later it will shine brilliantly. I can see it, and in the future, someone else will also see it."   - Gu Mang to Mo Xi, Remnants of Filth, Chapter 5
