KOKIA in flashback - 2017

In the year of 2017, KOKIA begins a new project: Ton ton ton, a project that initially starts with 1 CD (Doubutsu no ongakukai, 'animal concert'), but with a twist: the CD comes in a tin with 6 different designs, all done by KOKIA herself. All songs are about animals, and for every song, KOKIA makes a separate leaflet with the lyrics and the animal design. The project is aimed explicitly at kids as well as adults, with merchandise and more CDs planned for later.

KOKIA returns to China not once, but twice this year, in January and in December, opening en ending the year with her visits. The year also ends with a Christmas concert as per usual, but this time, it's an orchestra concert.

She also starts counting down to her 20th anniversary next year, launching a special website like she did for her 15th anniversary. This is also when she starts her own Facebook page. The countdown has begun!

雪村千鶴 / Yukimura Chizuru

Profile She has a really positive and bright personality. She likes traveling since she was a child, and she tries to be optimistic as much as possible to stop her family from worrying that she goes far alone.

Work While still attending high school, she was debuted with a single under Kondo Isami Produce. This April, she is releasing her second album. Not just singing, she does volunteer visits to nursing care centers and keeps doing charity works, which makes her appealing more in the nationwide.

KOKIA in flashback - 2016

The year of 2016 has barely started, but it is already an exciting one for KOKIA as she gives birth to her son Leonardo (Leo for short) on January 13.

Amazingly, KOKIA is already back on the stage in weeks, for her second fully orchestrated concert no less! Later in the year, KOKIA also performs in Shanghai for the first time, and in November, she holds her concert LAYERS. This concert celebrates her 10 years of independence, shorter than her usual concerts but incorporating sounds, lightning, dance and effects in ways she's never done before. The title refers to all the layers of sound and visuals woven throughout this performance.

This is also the year KOKIA releases her first jazz cover album, Watching from above, featuring little Leo on the cover. The album is published by KOKIA's own office, anco&co, and therefore only available via the web shop or at concert venues.

Release of my single ‘Nostalgia’

It’s been a while since I talked about a single.

I was allowed to write the theme song and the ending song for Yuukyuu no Tier Blade - Fragments of Memory-, the sequel to the previous work Yuukyuu no Tier Blade for which I was also allowed to writing both the theme song and the ending song.

The single containing this theme and ending song will be released tomorrow.

And since I got to write a really lovely title song, I would like it if you’d check it out, even if you don’t play the game.

Library Cross∞ theme song: Tomatta toki ~Library Cross~

KOKIA has composed, arranged, written and sung the song Tomatta toki ~Library Cross~ (’Halted time’), the theme song for the new app ‘Library Cross ∞ (Library Cross Infinite)’. The app will be available in 2017 in the App Store and Google Play, and an animated series set in this world is already announced to be in the works as well. The game is produced by Otomate and Wright Flyer Studios; Otomate also produced the two Yuukyuu no Tier blade games for which KOKIA provided the theme songs.

KOKIA will perform the opening and ending songs for the upcoming PS Vita game Yuukyuu no Tier Blade -Fragments of Memory-: the single will be released on October 11, 2017.

The opening song is called Nostalgia; the ending song is titled Kimi ga iru kara tsuyoku nareru yo (’I can become strong because you’re here’).

‘Nostalgia’

Being allowed to lend my voice for the second chapter of this series in a collaboration makes me really happy. Having gotten closer to the world view from the game, it’s at the same time pretty difficult to make a product just as good as the previous one, but his time, it’s not necessary to make it ‘up tempo’ which is often the case with requests for theme songs. Since that was the request beforehand, it was fun for me to create, since writing ballades is my strength. As a consequence, I don’t know how everyone feels about it, but a wonderful theme song was born that I personally really like. It’s a universal song that gives you a wistful sense of strength. Of course it’s for everyone who enjoys the game, but I also feel it’s become a song that I’d like for many people to listen to.

‘Kimi ga iru kara tsuyoku nareru yo’ (I can become strong because you’re here)

Keeping with the theme song, I also wanted to make the ending song a good song with a nice meaning, and a relaxed and airy feeling. This is a personal story, but it’s very important for me to be allowed to do everything in the KOKIA shop up until the arrangement, with there being many jobs where I am allowed to participate through the lyrics and the music (and of course the singing).

The work takes more time than if I were to just throw it at an arranger, but it also became a song where I was able to get much closer to the music the way it sounds in my own head. It was a good experience. Of course, a song that’s born in that way is like one’s own child, but it’d make me happy if many people will also love it for itself.
