Thoughts and pictures - S3E1
So after digesting my first watch a little bit, I'm starting my rewatch of this season and I'll share a few thoughts and reactions (and screenshots) because I can't keep it all to myself 😱
I was happy that we dived directly into the (sort of) trial and confrontation between Wilhelm, Simon and August. I do wonder how much time passed between the speech and this scene though.
It sets the tone for the entire season for Wilhelm: he's gonna be alone, with no support whatsoever from his parents. He enters the room alone, his parents arrive after him and his mother doesn't even look at him... Simon arrives with his mother and August with his stepdad. But Wilhelm has to deal with the situation alone (aka how to get incredibly mad at Kristina barely 5min into the season 😤)
Simon looks so pretty and so sad. (And how did Omar manage to look even younger this season??) He wants to be done with this whole thing. Also I checked but 1.2 millions kronor is not as much as I thought it would be (it's apparently around 107 000€, which is not bad, but I was expecting more)
I see what you did there Simon 😏 (Can someone gif this scene and put it in parallel with Wilhelm seeing Simon's room for the first time and saying "cozy" in season 1? :p)
The boys coming back to the meeting: very smooth. Nobody knows what you were doing. Nop. Not at all. (We can see Linda kinda smirking when Simon sits back whereas Kristina looks like she just ate a very sour lemon). Wilhelm arranging his hair and Simon smiling at him: they might be in the middle of an important meeting and at the Palace but they're still 2 teenage boys in love (and I love them for that 💜)
Rickard looked and sounded like such an idiot in the previous seasons that I didn't expect him to actually be competent! But I guess we were mostly seeing him through August's eyes... I know Rickard said he was the best lawyer in the country but I have to admit that I thought he was just bragging ^^'
Also: August is such an asshole. Did he really need to rile up Wilhelm like that? He's got quite the confidence to attack him and tell him how he just fuck things up on his own, in front of everyone like that, including the queen. Who, again, is not defending her son!! She tells them to shut up but she says nothing to August for talking like that to her son 😠
(They look like they've been called to the principal office). Kristina doesn't look at them immediately, she looks at Erik's picture on her desk first. Then she looks at August. And then finally at Wilhelm. She is so awful to him this season... Right from the start. And then she breaks down crying for Erik.
While Wilhelm holds her. I wasn't expecting to see her grieve so much this season. We didn't see that at all in season 2. Is it because she repressed all of her emotions too much? I hate that she breaks down like that just after Wilhelm publicly coming out. How can she not be there for him. I get that it must be hard to lose a son, but she still has a very alive one, who needs her.
Kristina is not getting redeemed in this season but Linda kinda is! I was super happy to see her get in mama bear's mode at the trial ^^ It was about time!! But here: I'm sorry Linda but it's not your son's role to keep you updated about what's going on in your house! You're the mother! Stop putting everything on this kid's shoulders!! Maybe he never tells you but do you ever ask??
Simon being truly angry at Sara is so good. I am so happy so he's able to feel that way and to not feel like he has to repress it, to forgive her, to help her. She did something truly bad and he's allowed to be mad. Also look at his angry lil' face 💜
In things that made me laugh: Wilhelm's reaction and face to learning that Simon is grounded all semester xD He was talking all smoothly/flirty and then his tone changes so dramatically when he realizes he won't be able to get his boyfriend in his bed very soon! Horny boy is horny (and frustrated :p)

I'm happy to see that Simon still has Ayub and Rosh here to support him. I wish they would have told him that replying to comments online was a bad idea though. You know the saying kids: don't feed the trolls!!
Wilhelm looks like such a normal teenager when he gets back to his room. First time we see him so carefree. It breaks my heart to know that on the other side Simon is so unwell already.
Wilhelm waking up happy and smiling. And being just a teenager (for the first time in a very long time): thinking about his boyfriend, redrawing the heart on his hand. It's such teenager things!! My boy just wants to have a normal life... (And then he's immediately reminded that he's actually not just a regular teenager with Farima's text).
Simon's worried face when he asks about Wilhelm's initiation. You can see he's truly horrified at the idea that he might have gone through what's been described in the article.
And then it starts: the piling up of everything on Wilhelm's shoulders. First his mother looking really unwell and breaking down (even though she hasn't been said to be officially ill yet), and now the negative impact of his speech on the school... Which Vincent takes great pleasure in reminding him about.
This first episode is really good at setting things in motion. We see already the beginning of what's gonna go down during this season: Simon not feeling well, dealing with online hatred, struggling with his new place next to Wilhelm in the spotlight. And Wilhelm trying to finally live a carefree life at school with his boyfriend now that he's officially out but slowly getting crushed under the pressure of his role as Crown Prince and the increasingly obvious lack of support from his parents.

I caved! S3E1 Live Reactions
Well, they jumped right into it, didn't they?! 😯
I know the theory is that the Queen is terminally ill, but I'd really like to see her portrayed as having anxiety, depression, etc.
I'm dying at the settlement. Anyone reading 'And That's How We Make History, Baby' will see why soon!
They are so horny for each other. ❤️
Oh damn. I knew the drugs would come out but I'm still furious.
And I'm really hoping that August tells them to go fuck themselves too, not for Sara but for him. It's the only way he can go on a path to redemption.

I was betrayed by my BFF, and I know how much it hurts. I'm glad they're showing that sort of grief. Because Madison is right. That friend break-up more than my divorce.
I was right about the cup, and Linda finally realized that she's the parent! I'm so happy about this! Simon and Sara both need that in their lives.
I find the parallel that she's getting stronger as the Queen is getting weaker to be very well done.
And again I continued to be impressed by Omar's acting. I can't believe it's his first.
Great sound job with that kiss.
I hate to admit it, but there's a decent boy buried inside of August.

alright okay. Great first episode. Really setup conflicts for resolution this season that are all interconnected to previous ones.

Live Thoughts on S3E1
Gonna try watch an episode a day so I don't overwhelm myself lol
- Starting in the palace ooo!
- The no eye contact from Kristina was harsh feel like it’s setting up for me to dislike her character even more this season (still really want a redemption ark for her though)
- Fourth wall break my beloved
- anyone wanna analyse the painting they showed in the intro? I wanna know the symbolism
- yes Linda defending them! I want her to tear into Kristina and August so bad
- the picture above wille's bed is still red hmm (also love that Simon says cozy 😭)
- the contrast from the happy lil "I’ll show you" scene to the meeting and Kristina made my anxiety skyrocket ahhh so nervous
- forgot to write for a bit because I was too absorbed in it but so much cuteness and pda, people staring all the time would make me so uncomfortable idk how they manage, is that they first time they’ve said ‘boyfriend’ too
- Sarah’s horse plushie 🥺
- friend breakups are so hard feeling bad for Felice also she looks so pretty as always
- cute polaroid! and drawing on each others hands I need gifs of that on my blog
- Wille seems so happy for once, everyone else around him is struggling though
- the school being investigated for the initiation stuff is well deserved, Simon being grounded is deserved too honestly but he's already gone through enough give him a break
Thoughts overall: not as nervous about the series by the end of the episode. I feel like even the bombshells that hit this episode were manageable. How Simon is gonna deal with the negative comments/articles is really the thing I'm most worried about. Oh and Sarah at their Dads! Feel like its gearing up for Simon becoming a boarder with the talking about how they're not gonna be able to spend time together, we'll see. All the cuteness is making me yearn for a relationship :( but it's worth it

nah bro I don't care actually, I 100% wholeheartedly believe Wilson actually started treatment after the end of the show, and House was there for him every step of the way just as Wilson was there for him post-leg surgery, and he eventually got better and recovered and he didn't fuckin die and he and House lived happily ever after. And I literally do not accept any criticism on that. Let my boys be happy ffs.

kendall dabbling with "buddhist daily quotes dot" reminded me of the first ep of s3 when he tells rava sth like "like you always said its either this (taking over waystar) or becoming a monk in mount athos". he reminds her of an observation that she made about him and he seems to agree with it. And the fact that these are the two options that they can think of for him is very telling for what i see as kendall's need to be in service of something powerful and also his need to feel chosen by Daddy™ (be it god or logan). I also think about his line "i needed to feel weak" that he tells dodds in s1s10 that was cut, and i think this also relates to him thinking becoming a monk is an option (even in a passsing thought),i.e living a life defined by surrender and acceptance of the weakness of the human condition. I think kendall resents having to feel and be strong so i think a monk fantasy helps him escape his resentment and live in his weakness without it being and indictment on his character. idk if him shifting from monkhood at mount athos to daily buddhist quotes dot com in s4e1 says anything about him being disillusioned by Daddy™ lol.
idk if this is coherent but when i saw your post i was literally thinking about that kendall moment in s3e1 and wanted to share some thoughts.
mm, i think there's also a joke here about the catholic -> buddhist pipeline. like, ex-catholics will be like "i don't believe in the omnipotent christian god anymore!" but then they still like, have that hardcore dualist swag where they're morally afraid of bodily experience and they graft that onto a weird bastardised version of buddhism with the same self-flagellation they were always doing but expressed in different language. also for kendall, he has no stable identity or sense of self and so there's something almost freeing about whatever understanding he has of buddhism where it's like, ooh, subsume yr individual identity into the Many! and like, doesn't really do anything with that concept or build on it, but kendall treats it as a shortcut to enlightenment or transcendence. which is also why it's easy for him to forget all of it once he has his name on a piece of paper: it was never a serious ideological commitment and was more just him engaging shallowly with a philosophy he brought his own shit into, and whoops, now he's actually back to wanting the company anyway lol
#the dodds line i think is more about him rejecting the medico-legal construction of addiction and saying that he's simply choosing to do#drugs rather than succumbing to an external disease (rare kendall bodily autonomy slay)

i only got into F1 this season and dear lord i so wish i had started watching like CENTURIES ago i feel like i missed out on so fucking much! but i love it and i'm having a lot of fun with everything that's happening now and learning about everything that's happened in the past and honestly late to the party, but glad i made it at all lol
anyway, having said all this, i wanted to thank you for Seven Years Next May because it's some of the most beautiful writing i've had the pleasure of enjoying in a bit. i started reading christian/toto stuff on a literal whim just to see what's out there and because i was rewatching dts and there was like a 2 second moment in s3e1 in australia when they were talking and they were both wearing casual clothes and they were so /soft/ that it made me lose my mind a bit.
i still have 3 more parts of the story and i am trying to savour it, it's just incredible, you captured them really well and apart from being so intelligently written and paced and structured, god, the love and the passion and the sex and the tender intimacy between them just feels so real it makes my heart ache, that's the type of love and care we should all be so lucky to find. and this is why i love fan fiction so much bc it's literally a story about two fucking 50 yr old formula 1 principals lol but it's so so much more than that
so yes thank you so much for sharing your writing with us, i am extremely grateful! i plan on picking up the pen myself for some sewis so wish me luck and i wish you a wonderful day & rest of the summer

my derry girls s3e1 thoughts
here are my thoughts on the episode and my updated bingo card! i hope to post my thoughts here every time a new episode premieres! obvious spoiler warning for derry girls season 3!
to start off, if anyone is looking to watch the episode i used a VPN and used the all4 website, as i live in the US and can’t access channel 4 content from my region. this is probably the best way to support the show and safest method of streaming right now until the series is available on netflix or another platform.
some initial observations
- orla is fucking incredible so far and is the highlight of this episode for me. granted, she is normally a highlight because i relate to her so heavily but she SHINES here. so glad they gave her more lines than usual!
- the idea of the gang making a home movie is so adorable to me and i think they did a great job. shout out to that familiar-looking actor with the brown curly hair, i hope that orla recalls her name and we see her again.
- clare’s exam anxiety is so relatable and i missed her so much
- i love that james is still being teased and we get the michelle and james banter but it doesn’t feel as mean-spirited as before which was a worry for me since i didn’t want the ending of season two to be spoiled. they all seem much closer as a result and i love that.
one of my predictions was that erin gets a new dog, and while a pet was on the cards i surely didn’t expect that it would be joe who adopted a cat! seamus is so cute and funny and the way joe defends him is identical to the way i defend my own cat whenever she does something wrong. glad to see the joe and gerry banter again too, i missed all the grown ups.
i also predicted that the gang would try to replicate a heist movie after watching one which was sort of half-true! watching them fight over opening the school door was pretty classic and it’s one of my favorite tropes in movies/tv lol
i did NOT expect for there to be a storyline about hiding a corpse so that was certainly an unexpected gerry and joe bonding moment
COLM IS BACK AND HE WAS GREAT! i missed the man so much!
also, i am absolutely LOVING clare’s new love is love pin and i want one for myself.
so far it’s off to a fantastic start. love the characters, love the script, love the soundtrack. i have such high hopes for the rest of the season and can’t wait for next week’s episode!

in s3e1, morty killed rick. or, so he thought anyway, for about 30 seconds. if rick hadnt given him a fake gun, he'd be dead right now, and morty would have to go home to his mom and tell her about the blood on his hands.
not so shockingly, this was forshadowed in the purge episode. rick keeps pushing morty to purge- maybe because he think's it'll be funny, maybe because he's curious to see if Morty will actually do it, or maybe it's a roundabout way of trying to help morty let off steam in the only way rick knows how. it backfires when rick tries to tell morty he's done, and morty starts threatening to kill rick too.
at this point, I don't think he would have gone through with it, but the fact remains that thoughts of hurting rick back were already in there, buried deep.
when ya repress yr emotions, it doesn't actually helps things.
rick fucks with morty constantly in those first two seasons, and when morty does get upset, its often not taken seriously. how many times have we heard him just agree with rick tiredly, instead of showing he's uspet about something? that shit builds, and with no outlet, it festers, until it grows into something worse and burts out of ya like some chest alien
theres quite a few episodes where morty tells rick off for being rude to summer, and he straight up admitted to wanting to protect her in this episode. when citidal!rick had the gun up to her head, and morty thought c137rick was actually going to let her die, he couldn't sit back and let it play out. he would choose summer over rick during this, for sure.
ricks a bad influence, and everyone knows it. but how much of his "nothing matters, infinite universes" mindset has been rubbing off on morty? it's possible that jumping universes once dulled down consequences to his actions, like shooting Rick. it obviously wasn't premeditated, but that line of logic could have contributed to lessening the hesitation of commiting an irreversible act that maybe isn't actually irreversible when another version of the person yr about to kill is standing five feet away.
rick is the one that controls adventures, besides with Morty's adventure stamp card. he also lets morty get away with quite alot, but thats something that we the audience can see the pattern of, but morty can not. he's a kid, and rick knows everything, and the only thing he can control in his own life is the clothes on his back.
not when he gets to sleep, not when he gets to go to school, not what's being cooked for breakfast, not what alien planet he's being subjected to each day. with that gun in his hand, and both of the ricks yelling at him, and the sister he just tried to save berating him, there's only one way to take control of the situation.
and so, he pulls the trigger. who's stupid now, bitch?
