Exciting Opportunity for Young Professionals: MATES Australia Program Set to Launch in 2024
Australia stands as a beacon for Indian youth seeking opportunities to study and work abroad. Renowned for its exceptional infrastructure and welcoming environment, Australia offers a promising destination for those eager to pursue their ambitions. Building upon this foundation, the governments of India and Australia are joining forces to introduce a groundbreaking initiative known as the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early Professionals Scheme (MATES).
MATES is a pioneering two-year program designed to facilitate Indian university graduates and early career professionals in living and working within Australia. With an annual allocation of 3000 temporary work visas, this initiative is poised to create pathways for young talent to thrive on the global stage. Scheduled to kick off in late 2024, MATES represents a collaborative effort to foster cross-cultural exchange and skill development.
This program presents a unique opportunity for young Indian professionals to immerse themselves in the vibrant Australian landscape, enriching their expertise, honing their skills, and expanding their professional networks. Notably, MATES eliminates the need for Australian employer sponsorship, streamlining the process for aspiring participants.
Key Criteria for MATES Eligibility:
Age Limit: Applicants must be 30 years old or younger at the time of visa application.
Previous Participation: Individuals who have previously engaged in MATES are ineligible.
University Graduates: Candidates must have graduated from an eligible university within the past two years.
English Proficiency: Proficiency in the English language is mandatory, with a minimum IELTS score of 6, including a score of 5 or above in each of the four components.
Qualifications: Applicants should hold qualifications in fields such as Engineering, Mining, Financial Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Information and Communication Technology, Agricultural Technology, or Renewable Energy.
The MATES program is poised to significantly benefit Australian industries by harnessing the talents of young, skilled professionals from India. With a focus on fostering innovation and driving growth, this initiative promises mutual prosperity for both nations.
Participants in the MATES program will receive a multiple-entry visa valid for two years, allowing them the flexibility to engage in various professional opportunities. Furthermore, participants may apply for temporary or permanent residency, provided they meet the requisite criteria.
If you meet the eligibility criteria outlined for the MATES program, seize this remarkable opportunity to embark on a transformative journey in Australia. Contact Visamint Overseas Services to initiate the application process and witness your aspirations come to fruition. Don't miss out on this chance to shape your future on the global stage!

An End to the American Sick Day
Tumblr media
Fear not Monica, if Chandler won't take you in your sick and sexy, corporate America will.
I've been in the workforce since I was 16 and almost every job I've had has given me shit for calling in sick. I always made sure to give my job notice as early as possible, and of course I provided doctor's notes - but that didn't stop bosses or coworkers or shift leaders from hassling me. I mean, I'd miss a 5-hour shift for the flu, come back the next day vomiting every 2 hours, and shift leaders would give me extra tasks to do and throw shady remarks about not taking enough vitamin C for the next month.
It's like for $8.35 an hour we as employees signed a marriage agreement - get underpaid doing one job that used to be split up between 3 people in sickness and in health.
Tumblr media
I work as a graphic designer while balancing school. I've been fighting the symptoms of an undiagnosed virus all week - it's been spreading like wildfire all across campus. My roommate, one of my favorite professors, and many of my friends/classmates have all been missing classes to recover. It wasn't until today that it hit me like a truck - which I personally find pretty impressive of my immunity system considering most of my inner circle was severely sick over a week prior.
You'd think that working as a graphic designer is something that can be adapted for remote work, but my boss strictly has us work at the studio; my department supervisor (a title below my boss) had his wife give birth to their first child right before Christmas, and he had to beg my boss to work from home at least a few days during the week. In order to work from home, my supervisor had to pack up his computer monitors and computer tower because all of our files and programs are saved on hard drives, not cloud locations. He didn't work from home for more than 3 weeks; he was back by New Year's.
One of the many jobs I worked in college before working as a graphic designer was an event coordinator position in my university's student engagement department. I had Covid within the first year of the pandemic and was in the hospital for over a month - I was in quarantine for over 2 months. I was able to work from home while fighting Covid, but the expectations for my job fulfillment were still very high - I remember hosting a virtual game show from my bed with a wastebasket filled with my own vomit next to me. I couldn't hardly talk from all the coughing but I still had to impersonate Alex Trebeck.
In that specific scenario, it wasn't my supervisor's fault that I was working like I was in prime health while I was in severe sickness; I needed to get paid to continue paying for the many supplements and medications that were keeping me alive and off the ventilator, and we didn't have enough staff members to make up for my absence.
But that doesn't forgive the fact that I couldn't really have a "sick day" - my team couldn't compromise to make up for my absence while I was ill; my supervisor's higher-up couldn't - er, sorry, wouldn't - pay my coworkers for the hours I would be missing, and he didn't wanna hire extra help unless I was formally breaking my contract and he was hiring someone to take my place.
So I write this and think about the lack of accommodating employees' needs for sick days in corporate America because when I texted my boss about needing the day to recover and promised a doctor's note and Covid test results, he did not text me back.
No response. Not even an "okay" or "get well soon" - heck even a "You suck" would've been better than the anxiety-inducing nothing. I feel like a lot of business hierarchies demonstrate pettiness from higher-ups; it's more common to hear nothing (and feel nothing) from bosses when something very human and empathetic is being discussed.
It's so hard to feel comfortable talking to bosses about something not business related when it seems like all they care about is their business.
And I think about the costs of recovering from illnesses - besides the sacrifice of pride and workplace respect; it usually takes extra money to pay for Nyquil and cough drops and tissues and Vicks, and missing work means losing 5+ hours of income (at least according to my experiences and most of my friends when I asked them about it - those who said they get paid sick leave are 30+ and have been working in their positions the majority of their career).
I hope that in the coming years businesses become more accepting of employees needing sick days - it'd be great if it became a normal expectation to receive paid sick leave as part of a job offer. I mean, how are we supposed to work hard for a company if they always believe we're never working hard enough?

Why?
Why do the things I love?
Why do the things I hate?
Why love or hate at all?
Why do I breathe, why does my heart beat, why would I love a myself I don’t know?
Why is she here, why has she gone, why is she so alone?
Hurt runs deep, pain lays bare, and yet, she believes, there’s a why and she’ll be home.
