do you think soowon is sociopath? i saw some fans saying he lacks empathy and i don't think he does.
Hey Anon! Thank you for the ask :) I didn't expect to receive that kind of question that was the heart of debates years ago, but I'm more than happy to reply!
Very long answer below the cut. Sorry for being unable to be brief, there's nothing that I love more than talking about Suwon and his emotions!
Short answer is no I don't think Suwon is a sociopath, at all.
I've read people say that many times, especially in response to chapter 196, I don't know if that's what you have in mind. From personal experience, I've never seen anyone call him a sociopath know what that word really means or not being a Suwon-anti and I think most of the time people say this in the pejorative "cold and emotionless" way. The manga has shown countless times the range of Suwon's emotions, and to imply he doesn't feel anything is just, wrong (Kusanagi stated it explicitely too). I guess it's understandable for series going on for years like akayona, but I feel like it's a common mistake to read a chapter as a standalone and not something that adds to what was established before. Like, it's not because the diary and castle arc showed new sides of Suwon (through the eyes of other characters on top of that) and in specific circumstances that it invalidates everything shown to us about him before. It's one piece of the puzzle for sure, but nothing less nothing more. I'm no psychiatrist and I'm not qualified to give anyone any kind of diagnostic, but Suwon feels very much, and he feels guilt, is even paralyzed by it at times and it is sometimes an obstacle to him. Suwon is all about discarding feelings, and for that to be a thing, feelings have to be there to begin with. From what I know about sociopathy, this isn't it. And even if he was, that wouldn't make him any less lovable and deserving of compassion to me.
Now on empathy specifically, it's more arguable, but I don't see lacking empathy as something inherently wrong that makes someone broken or cold. What you feel or not doesn't matter in my opinion, it's what you do to care for others. So like, yeah, if you compare with Yona I guess you could say Yona is more empathic than Suwon, but in no way that alone would make her a better person than him(I don't want to make this about Suwon vs Yona, she was just the first character to come to mind).
Lack of empathy is also not exclusively a sociopath thing. Like, everyone feels it to a different degree and there is a lot factors that can be at play.
Suwon feels and thinks differently, his differences with characters like Meinyan, Yona and Hak being the most obvious examples of that, and it's one of the many things that make me see him as neurodivergent in some way. But in the end, whether he feels empathy or not is not important. Or like, yeah, it can be interesting to explore, but it isn't relevant to define him in the slightest.
Tumblr media
That being said, let's talk about what we know. First, what we know for sure, is that he cares! And even if you admit he doesn't have the same level of empathy as others, he tries to help when he can and if it's not in the way of his goals. Whether it's when he was a child comforting Yona and his mother, or reassuring an insecure Lili, or again, trying to comfort a trembling Yona in the way he knows best. It's something that comes naturally to him, something that very much makes him, him. Suwon is someone who wants to help, and who finds joy in making others happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is also intelligent, can understand how people think and feel, and why people act the way they do. He is able to sense very young that Il doesn't like him. He was able to give Yona exactly what she needed when she was mourning her mother. In the present, Suwon understands why Yona or Hak would want to kill him, or how his words would only upset them because he is able to put himself in their shoes. (This, is different than empathy imo. Putting yourself in someone else' shoes is an effort you make to understand others, whether you feel what they feel) It's because he understands how people feels that he was able to come this far and unite the country like he did. He is able to play with how people perceive him to get the upper hand over them too. And he is very aware of the consequences of his colder decisions. Everytime he discards someone, he very much expects their hostility towards him and doesn't ask anything of them again. In my opinion Suwon just doesn't think in term of good vs bad. He can tell between the two in like how it matters to others, but it's not relevant to him, and he rather thinks in term of "is that thing on my way or not". (I think he does struggle to understand the extent of how people feel about him, though. He thinks logically, so it's hard for him to understand things that go against all logic, like Hak and Yona helping him after everything.)
Then I think it's important to mention the part of Suwon that shows a discardment of emotions and empathy, and Yuhon.
Actually, how much of that comes from how Yuhon raised him, the environment he grew up in, or from how he is inherently as a person is interesting sure, but not that relevant either. Whatever the roots of it, he is able to put his feelings on the side and stay composed in dire situations. But again, it doesn't mean he doesn't feel anything. And what the war against Kai shows is that his ability to not be affected by the deaths of his people is the reverse of the determination-turned-desperation to not lose against Kai. "Even death is acceptable"(his own included) he says to himself. The fact this is a thing he had to tell himself to begin with says a lot in my opinion. He was struggling, and had to remind himself repeatedly to not look back, to think about nothing but the war. Suwon has limits, even if he is more composed and determined than most, and when he reaches these limits he needs to cling onto his father's words, because otherwise he would falter and stop being able to think clearly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanksfully this desperation turned back into his usual determination(still kinda fueled by the urgency of his situation) after the events of this battle. But like, Suwon is not at all a character that is a complete facade when he acts as a King and whose cold decisions go completely against his heart all the time. He really is the King not hesitating to take harsh decisions and make sacrifices to achieve his goals. He really is the King not unfazed in the slightest about losing his own castle and capital, and people dying in war for his cause. That's also what makes him, him, and something more than helpful in war where you have to deal with losses and unpredictable events all the time.
Tumblr media
Going back to chapter 196, when Yonhi thinks to herself "How can he be so detached?" or when Yuhon's faction is impressed by how unfazed he was about investigating his own father's corpse, in no way it is that Suwon doesn't feel anything about his father or Yona. He so does. He is shown burning with anger, and he is shown not looking the least enthousiastic about killing Il. The situations and ways in which he expresses these emotions are simply not what you would usually expect from a child, but why should there be any rule about how someone is supposed to react and feel? There's nothing scary about that. When you stop to think about 2 seconds, is it that fearsome for someone to cope by taking the lead and prioritizing dealing with the problems at hand first, and being unable to process things emotionally? Like, isn't that pretty common? I can relate a lot to that personally. I guess what is surprising in this case is how Suwon is able to do it so young and to this extent, but it's nothing more than that. When Suwon asks Yonhi if she wants Il to die, and she gets scared of that, Suwon is genuinely asking too. Is that this far-fetched for him to assume Yonhi would want that when everyone else around him does? When revenge seems to be the very reason Il, supposed to be peace-loving, killed his father?
Tumblr media
People might say that Suwon lacks empathy and maybe they wouldn't be wrong, but he constantly tries to understand what people want and answer to their expectations anyway. And I think that's what matters the most, even if he fails at it sometimes. He couldn't understand how Yonhi felt about Il in chapter 196, but he still tried hard to be what he thought she wanted from him: a replacement of Yuhon (Again, logical conclusion when that's what everyone else around him encourage). He still did all he could to comfort her, and he gave her strength.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He became the ideal King most of the generals and Yuhon faction wanted, and a lot of the issues in his relationship with Yona and Hak come from the fact he behaved in front of them as the Suwon they (used to think they) wanted. He cared for them genuinely, but he couldn't show the rest of him because it would go against the idealized image they had of him. Just like he can't show all of himself in front of his supporters either, because what they want is for him is a perfect, never faltering King, following Yuhon's footsteps. When it became impossible to be these two ideals at the same time, he discarded one. Suwon cares and loves, and this has nothing to do with empathy. He is both the caring friend and the pragmatic king and can't discard either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suwon might have less empathy than others, yet he is the one who acted to better the lives of his country's citizens, in contrast to Il, that sure, might be more empathic (except when it comes to Suwon visibly) yet barely acted on it.
I'm gonna stop here but I could go on forever. I hope it's not too much all over the place. Sorry I can't help it.
TDLR : no I don't think he is a sociopath, mainly because he feels guilt and regards what people think a lot, and all he does is never for his own personal benefit. But empathy or not, he cares and does his best. There is so much to explore about him, and basing the morality of a character on empathy is just not it. I think the fact he has such a different way of thinking compared to the rest of the main cast is what makes him so fresh and interesting and I wouldn't want him any other way. He doesn't give a fuck and idk it's funny and so cathartic sometimes. We should embrace that.

akatsuki no yona chapter 184: youtube comment I’m proud of: Joo-Doh has no right to talk to hak about Loyalty
That's kind of interesting. I ctually think Hak is right. I think king Il didn't physically kill his brother. like for one thing Il isn't a war general. imaging Il killing his brother or fighting him and WINNING with a sword is really hard to imagine. His brother is a BEAST. We definitely find out relationships between the two brothers weren't completely loving...there was some complicated stuff in there. but we know for a fact king Il was king and his brother apparently expressing to soowon that he just wanted to support his bro. I think there could have been a fight if yu-hon decided to go wage war after his brother told him no or something. but unless yu-hon was found to be involved with killing the mom its hard to imagine king Il even raising the blade to his brother and not being wracked by guilt all the time if he did kill his bro. but yu-hon was litlerally oe of the strongest in the kingdom and king il was already getting fluffy/bubbly.
love your reacting to Hak calling out joo-dou. Joudou was making a big deal about how he KNOWS Hak hates and wants to kill soowon so why would they let hak into the army that directly protects the king. trying to get Hak to swear loyalty to soowon or fail to o so and get kicked out of the sky army.
but what really hit me hard with Hak asking why did the king have to die and both him and yona get betrayed like that ws h was calling out Joudous loyaty and what do oaths mean. after all even if Il wasn't a good king Jou- Dou and the sky army SWORE a oath of loyalty to protect the king and royal family. Jou-dou even knew yona on a personal level and was one of the to people.
yet jou-dou here is trying to get Hak to swear loyalty and lecture hak?
Jou-dou and others in the skytribe army who own loyaly guards that hawk probably even trained with snuck in during Yonas party celebration and planned to cver up the tre prgins of king Il's death. they DIRECTLY betrayed the king.
forget soo-won. that burn where hak basically threw in his face that joodou is a oath breaker and that empty vows or loyalty don't mean anything. Hak could sweat that oath and sneak in a kill soo-won because in the end unlike joudou and many in sky tribe army....hak was ACTUALLY loyal to the king. hak didn't just see the king as cowardly. he knew there were lots of issues with the king and his methods and ideals. but the king won haks respect and loyaty and  hak found him worthy for a reason. He ws able to see why the grandpa king(king il's dad) chose king Il.
and what even more interesting is Hak was soo-won's best friend. his right hand. he also wanted soo-won be be king just traitors they fought for. honestly probably even more than them. he was willing t happily put aside his feelings for yona to encourage them both to marry an be together so he could serve the two people he loved th most. the traitor and Joodou use the excuse it was to save the kingdom an we could be fooled since we know he wasn't a good king... but unlike them he knew a peaceful solution had just been in reach. hak knew yona was in love with soo-won at the time and that she fought with the king because she wanted to be allowed the option to marry soo-won. and there even seemed to be slight progress at least on soo-won finding out her feelings.
Hak has even more trust in soo-won's skills. I like hak thinking soo-won could have talked with king Il and they then used the death of th brother as a reason talks couldnt happen. but he knows if yona is willing to care about soo-won and suck up that he killed her dad in front of her to work o the good f th kingdom than soo-won definitely ould be able to. that could be naïve. maybe king Il DID kill the dad and Il would refuse any talks with soo-won. but that's excuses. soo-wo could have kept trying to talk to king ill and negotiate. but I like Joo-dou trying to hide behind that as a excuse for their behavior because even if joudou chose to swear loyaty to the idea of soo-won as king. It doesn't excuse he swore a actual oath of loyaty to the actual king and they broke it and deliberately caused his death right under haks nose.
and Hak is STILL loyal to Yona his princess and given her support. I also like you bringing up that hak brought up yona in the discussion because even if Il killed soo-wons dad. yona was innocent and it was still betraying her. though my guess was th plan was to kill king Il while yona was innocently asleep in her quarters and that she'd be obvious to the true culprits who killed her dad and she'd see soowon as innocent. maybe the plan was to use her as a figure head or for soo-won to rule in her stead while she grieved but they hadn't actually planned to kill her until she had appeared unexpectedly and witnessed the murder. which then they had to silence her. I like how you phased hak saying 'I don't believe you' and why should I believe you' XD after all we know that shady advisor is the WORST...he tried to get zeno and jaeha shot with arrws. encouraged soowon to kill yona after she witnessed the murder. dude gives ALL the disrespect to yona with the seating arrangement. and I can't help by wonder since the dude is so a yuuhon fan...that maybe that advisor dude got disappointed yuhon didn't want to take over the kingdom from his king Il. so killed yuuhon himself and then puts all his eggs into the basket of into making soowon king and planned on killing king Il, who he saw as having stolen the rightful place of yuhon even though it was decided by the grandpa king and king Il didn't deliberately steal anything. like the adviser I could see having a grudge against King Il on his own on prince/general yuu-hon's behalf. trying to recreate the dream he thinks the ideal yuu-hon would have actually wanted if yuhon didn't hold back on his brother. he tried to stall on a peaceful solution in discussing stuff between the tao and kouren and soowons people. the advisor tried to stop that.
I also like hak seing it more of a surface excuse. in th end everyone else betrayed king il because they wanted sowon on the thrown and didn't approve on how Il handled the country. but they are still in the wrong for breaking that loyaty and betraying them.
and jodouh cant argue that hak isn't loyal to yona if he gave up his place in the wondtribe general to care for his tribe and her.
I like your excitement over soo-won's hawk visiting hak XD I also wonder if haks jab at jou-dous loyalty might also imply king Il was right to choose hak over joudoh as Yonas boyguard and being in charge of the guards at the castle.
Joudoh might be afraid of hak honestly but he cant say hak's anger at soo-won isn't justified after the betrayal.

You seem to be still hoping that Yuhon didn't kill Kashi since Il didn't present any actual proof but I'm pretty sure he did because otherwise Yona would lose the morale high ground and I just don't see it happen. I think she will forgive SW and end the bad blood in the royal family so SW can see the red light and find peace because he would've be forgiven for lying to her.
Dear anon, in fact there are several reasons, why I do doubt this very pretty obvious turn of events.
1. Why did King Il present no hard evidence? Wheter personality wise - King Il would have loved to tell. He pretty much come to hate his brother- nor from the narrative it makes sense. It cannot be to surprise the readers, because many people including some people in the manga believe it as if it was already a fact.
2. Narratively it would make more sense if Yona would lose the high moral ground. I do think that the flash-back shows her the difficulties of the “other side”, the reasons for some deeds, but should also make clear that her father did in fact kill his brother. Yona actually didn´t believe it and she could use this reason to justify the act in itself. I doubt that it would be great if Yona told Soo Won, that the murder of his father even though he did not defend himself was in fact “justice”.
3. Yona may forgive him, but Hak would be unable to do so. And having the three at least mend their relationship up to a certain point, may be wiser, since it is a selling point for the mangaka.
4. Some scenes would be really disturbing like that he consoled his wife, when he is responsible for her misery. Or Soo Won telling Yona that he took revenge...like...that would be pretty disturbing.
5. So I should believe that King Il is - just like his daughter - also always right regarding his mere assumptions? Just because he did say so? He did not even talk greatly about the fact if he could prove it or not. He just assumed that it was him or saw the mere fact that he lied about knowing that Kashi was  a shrine-maiden.
6. Is there any reason, why Kashi and Yon hi became “friends” shortly before Kashi was murdered? I would be suspicious regarding that point.
7. Why did Kashi wish that Yon hi knew her identity? She did not intend to be friends with her, when they met again.
8. I do think that there might be a trick to it, or Yona would not try to remember this event.
9. Kashi´s thoughts and character is still pretty faint. It could be that there is still something coming that would explain her a lil better.
Or to sum it up: It could be, but I am free to doubt it due to the points above!

WTF was this chapter? Yonhi was just told in the morning "hey honey I had a bunch of people slaughtered now you can live in peace" and that's her reaction ? And she didn't tell Yuhon what his actions did to her clan? She even tried to take the blame for his actions in front of Il and Kashi And Yuhon couldn't talk before burning people to death. Is killing easier than talking?
Hi anon
Apparently not being able to discuss things properly is something everyone needs to suffer from in this manga.
I don’t know why Yonhi cannot speak with her husband. Why she cannot propose more diplomatic ways of solving the issue? Like encouraging Yu-hon to speak with Il sincerely and telling Yu-hon to tell Il that he wants to help him.
At the very least she could question if her husband ways are truly the best way to deal with problems and conflicts. Even if people Yu-hon’s kills are not completely innocent, would it make his aggressive response right and 100% justified? Was the punching of Il 100% justified? I have never felt it was justified, it was explained, but not justified. Both brothers should have spoken with each other in priavte where they would be alone instead of making a scene.
Having Yonhi questioning her husband’s ways and wondering if his approach is truly solving anything and not just creating more problems would do the trick in my opinion if Kusanagi was afraid that people start seeing Yu-hon as too much of a hero or something.

An Analysis of Akatsuki no Yona Chapter 178
If you haven’t heard, the translations for Chapter 178 have just come out, so I suggest you read that first before reading this post. The dialogue of the chapter has outright confirmed my analysis of Yona's decision here, so I won't be analyzing that again. I will, however, touch upon other topics of import that came up during the chapter in this post. Feel free to reblog for further public discussion. For the sake of simplicity, I will use the first spelling denoted in each header for every character.
Keishuk/Kye-Sook
I think I'm not the first person to say that I hated Keishuk at first sight. He's smug, cold, snake-like -- he's like Gin Ichimaru, except without that damnably likable, cheeky, trolling personality.
That being said, this chapter paints Keishuk in a new light. For a long time many of us have suspected that Keishuk has been manipulating Suwon, possibly even planning to betray him at one point - but this chapter seems to confirm that Keishuk is loyal to Suwon, or at least his goals, even if that means he has to act behind his chosen king's back and make this offer to Yona.
Another thing that makes him more likable is how he deals with Judoh. He refuses to allow Judoh's personal feelings get in the way of the good of the country, and straight up calls him out on it. That further underlines the fact that, despite his faults, Keishuk honestly does care about the good of Kouka. He just has differing views from Yona about how the recovery and prosperity of the country can be achieved.
Judoh/Ju-Doh/Joo-Doh
Speaking of Judoh, aren't we all glad that someone finally called him out on his bs? Even if it is Keishuk who did it, we can't deny that it's been a long time coming. Ever since the Nadai arc, Judoh's obsession with killing Hak (either by his hand or Suwon's) has reached dangerous heights.
Of course, initially we thought it was because Hak was a threat to Suwon. Later chapters implied that while that's part of it, Judoh's issues with Hak stemmed from long before Suwon. Here, in this chapter, Keishuk all but confirms it - Judoh has hated Hak for a very long time.
This chapter also gives further clarification as to why, and it's the reason we all saw coming: jealousy. And why wouldn't he be jealous? Judoh is the general of the Sky Tribe, the royal tribe that holds Hiryuu castle, that holds the throne. And yet, despite his position, he's lived in the shadows of others for years: first Guen-Tae, then Hak.
With Guen-Tae it was easy to ignore. The man was older, a decorated general who fought side-by-side with Prince Yuhon back in the day. He was Judoh's senior, so of course he'd be better. It was something to be expected. Judoh couldn't resent something that was simply part of the natural order of things.
But with Hak? Hak is little more than half Judoh's age. And yet by the time he was eighteen, he was general of the Wind Tribe. He had beaten Guen-Tae, Judoh's better, when he was just a kid. Worst yet, King Il passed Judoh over in favor of Hak when assigning Yona's bodyguard, a position that was traditionally given to someone like Judoh. Hell, there were even rumors that Il was planning to arrange a marraige between them.
Oh, that must have grated on him. If those rumors were true, that meant Il had essentially chosen Hak as his heir, over the men of the Sky Tribe like Judoh and Suwon. I highly doubt Judoh actually wanted to marry Yona or be king, but he'd probably would've liked being considered at least. Plus, if Hak actually did marry Yona and became king, that meant Judoh would have to serve him - this orphan kid from the Wind Tribe who had gotten lucky enough to be adopted by the previous general, who had been overshadowing Judoh since before he had barely hit puberty. It must've felt humiliating.
And the most ironic part? Judoh is still in Hak's shadow even now. This recent battle with the Tully tribe all but proves it. Even with Hak on the run, having given up his own name and generalship over the Wind Tribe, he still manages to outdo Judoh at every turn. There's no way Judoh is unaware of it, and there is no doubt it's gnawing at him even now.
Deep down, Judoh fears Hak. Let's face it, if the coup hadn't involved killing King Il, Hak would be Suwon's most trusted lieutenant, not Judoh. If Suwon had just married Yona like how Hak and Yona wanted him to, Hak would be by their sides, every step of the way, leading Suwon's forces and soaking up all the glory that Judoh is implied to want. And while reconciliation between Hak and Suwon is impossible now, there's still that nagging little fear inside that maybe, just maybe, they might be able to work past it and work together again. And if that happens, where will that leave Judoh? He'll be left behind yet again.
And say, what if Hak succeeds in killing Suwon? Or Suwon dies from some other means? The throne will default to Yona, as Suwon's closest living relative and Il's original heir to begin with. If Judoh doesn't find himself executed or exiled, he could lose his position. And even if he doesn't, even if Yona finds it in her heart to forgive him, to trust him again, he'll be serving Hak, because there is no man she will marry but him.
Yona and co. going back to Hiryuu Castle might be the best for the country, but not for Judoh. And while he disguises it with his legitimate concerns for Suwon's safety, Keishuk saw through it, and thus, so do we.
Fin
That's it for now. I wanted to touch on Hak and Yona, but I think those pages said everything that I wanted to say. 'Til next time!

Hi hizasukisenpai! So have you read the lastest AnY chapter 184? Why do you think Hak joined the sky tribe army as a footsoldier? And about Ju-do’s confession when hak questioned him? (I think we all assumed this at some point but what do you believe). And the most important question is what do you think about the last image of the chapter? I know Any has been dragged a lot, but I been rereading the first volumes this days and I still love it so much. Is such a good story. Thanks like always!
Hi! I believe Hak knows he won’t be able to stay close to Yona while she’s in the castle, she’s the hostage who will make the DDHHB behave. Obviously he still wants to be nearby, so I guess he used his position as former soldier/general to enlist in the Sky Tribe army and monitor things from there. Not only will he be able to keep close to the castle, but the army will also likely be the first to know if something is going on inside the walls. He’ll be able to make friends with the soldiers, hear rumors and if things get fishy, maybe he’ll be able to convince his squad to help him. Kye-Sook sees this as a way to keep him under control, but Judo is right to be scared. That’s a good way to start a coup imo.
As for the confession, it seemed to me that Judo pitied Hak for not knowing Il killed Yuhon. Maybe he finally found something he could best Hak at. In any case it looks like he’s less angry at him now. The part about Hak not being convinced by any reason, even revenge, leads me to believe Judo knows way more about the circumstances that he lets on. It seemed he knew at least one other reason that led Soowon to do what he did, and I think it might be related to Yuhon and Il, or their father.
It’s nice seeing Gulfan again, although I don’t know if the reunion is only meant as a reminder of days long gone or if the bird will have a part to play in the next chapters. Ao might eat it if it tries to steal the spotlight XD

@akatsuki-no-yona-angst-week
Day 5 - Death (AO3)
Warnings: Severed Heads
Her mother used to tell her that no child should ever have to live through a war. But that was how the world was. Always at war. Her mother was lost to a war too. She wasn’t killed, but she grew sick and there was a shortage of everything during war times. She lost her mother to the world that was always at war and she had only her father, Tao, and her people. Tao was too young to understand what death meant, too young to understand what war meant, too young to understand that Kouren was constantly in so much pain.
King Junam was ruthless and the commanders under him were the same. Xing had suffered far too many losses, they were losing resources, they were losing their people, they were losing everything. So Xing decided to draw back their soldiers and beg for a cease fire. A reasonable thing, Kouren believed. A treaty could be made instead of this bloodshed.
Their soldiers would be released.
They could finally put an end to this stupid war that had taken so many of their people away.
It was over.
It was over.
It was supposed to be over.
Kouren stared in horror as it rained blood and severed heads.
People were screaming and crying, some were shouting in outrage. There was so much going on around her. Or there should have been. For Kouren, everything had gone oddly quiet and oddly still. As if time itself had stopped for her.
She watched blankly as dead eyes met hers and a severed head dropped to the ground and right by her feet.
He was a soldier that had worked in the palace before. He smiled a wide smile, babied Tao and patted Kouren’s head even when she asked him not to.
He wasn’t smiling anymore.
How strange.
She slowly knelt in front of the severed head and brushed the matted, messy and blood caked hair away from his forehead. The blood was at least several hours old. He had been dead since morning. Kouren absentmindedly rubbed cracked and drying blood from his stiff cheeks. She stared at his lifeless eyes that looked like glass and then closed them.
“Princess Kouren!” Someone shouted behind her, but that sound too, was muffled.
It was just her. Her and this soldier.
Her and this soldier and their burning hatred and rage felt for Prince Yuhon.
“Would you like to go home?” Kouren asked the soldier.
There was no answer. The man’s lips were covered in blood and motionless. Kouren closed her eyes for a moment. It was fascinating how calm she was despite boiling inside with rage, despite the severed head in her hands.
“I can take you home,” she said and then picked the man’s head up, staining her dress with half dried blood. She cradled the man’s head to herself, like a child that she loved dearly.
She looked around her and people were still crying and screaming. Several soldiers and men were trying to usher everyone away from the border. The soldier that had come with Kouren was batting away people that came near her while glancing at her in terror. Her eyes went to the camp Kouka had made in the distance, catching just the slightest glimpse of red.
Prince Yuhon.
Kouren closed her eyes and turned around, walking away with the man’s head held close.
She would make Prince Yuhon pay.
“Princess Kouren! What are you holding?” her soldier cried out. “Please let go of that immediately!”
“I’m taking him home,” Kouren said quietly, turning to look at her soldier. The man went still, horror and fear in his eyes. “Is there something wrong with taking someone home?”
“N-no, your highness,” the man looked away, unable to look her in the eyes.
Why?
Was it because of the blood that dirtied her dress, the tender way she held the head, the tears that wouldn’t stop falling from her eyes?
“Do you know where his home is?” Kouren asked.
“N-no,” the man stammered.
“I see, I will have to search then,” Kouren turned and kept walking.
She searched and searched, but she couldn’t seem to find the man’s home and anyone she asked would tell her that they didn’t know. They were all scared. Kouren didn’t understand. What were they so scared of? It wasn’t as if she were Prince Yuhon.
“Kouren, what are you doing?” her father shouted.
“Oh, father,” Kouren murmured. “I am looking for this man’s home. While I look for it, I was wondering if I could leave him with Tao.”
“Absolutely not! You mean to leave that with Tao? Throw that into the furnace at once!” her father sounded horrified.
Why?
“Why would I throw a hard working citizen into the furnace? He has done nothing wrong. Father, you cannot treat your people like that.” Kouren stared at her father and he looked even more horrified.
“Kouren, please, give that to another soldier. They will take the head to where they are paying respects to the fallen.”
Why?
“Respects?” Kouren said softly. “Respect? Is that enough?”
“Kouren?” her father asked.
“This man is not dead,” she said quietly. “He is filled with fury. He is filled with rage. He is a burning furnace himself.” She brushed her fingers against the blood stained hair, tenderly. “Respect? He does not want that. He wants blood. He wants the blood of the people of Kouka to be spilled until their rivers are red. Respect is pointless.”
Her father stared at her, speechless and then she noticed the man on the side, his face bleeding and his side maimed.
“Ah,” she walked over to him, placed the head on the floor and pressed her hands against the flowing blood on his face. He stared at her in wonder. “This man too, is not dead.” She pressed her forehead against the man’s. “Are you too, hiding that rage within your heart?”

I wanted to respond to your post comparing what Soo-won did to Hak killing a soldier to protect Yona.  I think it’s a horrible comparison, to be frank.  Soo-won killed a king whose intent was to protect his people by using a violent-free method.  Il cared about his people and had good intentions, just that his method was different from Soo-won’s own.  It’s not like he ever went on the offense to hurt Soo-won or anyone.  if Il wanted to hurt Soo-won, I imagine he could have easily gotten rid of him, not let him grow up beside his own daughter.  Not only that, but Soo-won was willing to betray and even kill innocent people(Hak and Yona) to change the course of his country.  That’s equivalent to Yona agreeing to kill one of the dragons to change Kouka.  Would that be acceptable to you too?  Saving innocents by killing innocents.  That’s hypocritical.  To compare what Soo-won did to Hak killing a soldier who was on the offense to hurt Yona is something of a joke.
Hi A.J. Glad to hear from you. You didn’t leave your tumblr url so I can’t tag you.
Hak didn’t kill one soldier to protect Yona. He killed a lot of soldiers. All of them were probably fighting for something they believed in. If they are real characters with names, they would probably have people waiting for them at home.
Now obviously I’m not saying he shouldn’t have protected Yona. But the point is… he did what he thought was right under the circumstances, and shows no remorse for it. (I mean, not that he has to.)
Like most works, Akayona is a manga which doesn’t really humanize mooks. HHB kills a lot of people in this manga, and the people they kill are never humanized.
Soowon isn’t morally clean. He started a war, which probably killed a lot of people. But King Il is just one person. He probably did have good intentions, but it’s been made clear that the degree he went into pacifism actually hurt the country. He was oblivious to corruption within the fire tribe. He gave away so much land it weakened the country. As a king, his ignorance killed thousands of people, people that died of starvation and plague and crime which could have been stopped with better governance. Could Soowon have somehow fixed these issues without killing the King? Maybe. We’re not sure tbh. But like… King Il also (allegedly) killed his dad so it might have been kind of difficult to work out their differences on top of that.
No, Il didn’t hurt Soowon personally aside from allegedly murdering Yuhon… But neither did Yang Kumji hurt Yona when she DECIDED to get involved. She got involved in fighting human trafficking because she cares about people who aren’t even given names in the manga, people she doesn’t even know.
Ultimately, innocence is never part of the question. Soowon wants to strengthen Kouka as a whole. He wants to serve both the good and the bad people of the country and everyone in between. There’s no objective measurement of innocence in people so honestly, it’s just a matter of number. And if better governance saved… let’s say… 1000 lives, at least a few of them would have been “innocent”. Whether his governance is actually better… I have no fucking clue man… this manga doesn’t give us anything so I’ll just have to take random characters’ words for it…
If Yona is willing to kill one of the dragons to change Kouka… Well, hopefully, it won’t come to that? Kusanagi is much too nice for that. I mean… idk the situation is too hypothetical so I don’t know how I’d feel about it.
Like… honestly, I’m not trying to say Soowon is right in killing Il and starting the coup. That is hard to say. But I’m just saying it’s really a matter of framing. Characters have gotten away with much worse and still applauded as a hero in other stories. And murder, for the most part, has no moral consequences when it’s done by protagonists. I’m not saying Hak killing people to defend Yona is equivalent to Soowon killing Il, but you have to admit, if the story started from the loved ones of people he killed… you would view him very differently.

@acertaincritic requested Present!Su-won and BeforeTheCoup!Su-won (but already planning) meet, and discuss whether or not it was/is worth it.
This isn’t...exactly this prompt, but it’s certainly the result of it. It’s set in the same au as my other time travel fics: essentially, Hiryuu Castle is riddled with portals through time, though not many can access them. Suwon is among those who can.
Disclaimer 1: one of the other fics in this au, What We Make, contains a crackship that is...somewhat relevant...to this fic. I think this stands alone just fine, but if you want more context, that’s where to find it.
Disclaimer 2: while not technically a Suwon Double fic, I’ve shamelessly borrowed elements of @sorasan000‘s Suwon Double theory
2018 words, featuring past!Suwon, present!Suwon (technically between-Kin-and-Sei-arcs!Suwon), King Il, and time travel that makes about as much sense as the stuff in the Terminator franchise
AO3 link
When Suwon feels the familiar tug of Hiryuu Castle’s time portals, it's already too late. Upon his ascension, he'd made a promise never to visit the past again. He's learned much over the years, from eras both distant and more recent, but as Kouka's king, it was time to put the past behind him and look to the future...or not. He wouldn't have chosen to step through this portal, but he's in the past now, with no way to return home other than to let things take their course. A day or two, maybe less. The portals have always sent him home in due time.
Suwon smiles to himself. In his previous visits, he was always a student, learning from the great rulers and generals of the past. Now here he is, fresh from his own victory, one step closer to restoring Kouka to that past glory. Would history’s greats be proud of him? One man, in particular, surely would…
Now, when exactly has he found himself? If he's already here, there's no point containing his curiosity, after all. The palace is similar to the one he knows—almost too similar. The portals have never taken him anywhere so recent, but is it possible? Could he meet—? Then a familiar young man rounds the corner and Suwon’s eyes widen. This is the recent past, yes—far, far too recent.
“Lord Suwon!” Minsu’s broad smile almost hurts to see. “We weren’t expecting you this early. Shall I tell Princess Yona you’re here?”
“No, don’t—!” He takes a deep breath and composes himself. “I came early to do some business in the city,” he improvises. “Don’t tell Yona, she’ll only be disappointed I can’t spend time with her yet.” Minsu accepts this easily; Suwon has done this before.
He leaves the palace straight away. If he were to see them now… You can change things, his mind whispers to him, and why not? he wants to answer. It’s not as if he believes in some grand plan. Still he leaves. With a portal to this era, he could find himself trying to make things right forever, if he lets himself. This is why he chose to look only forward.
“Oh! Excuse me.” Ah. Perhaps he should take looking forward literally, too. “Wait. You...I…” That voice. Suwon looks up. The man he bumped into is...himself.
“What are you doing here?” he asks. “You’re not expected for another week.”
“I...came early, to take care of some business in the city…” Of course. He’s done this before, after all. “But I should be the one asking you that question.”
“I discovered a new portal.” His younger self nods in understanding—he’s been exploring Hiryuu Castle’s time portals for years—but still there’s a question in his eyes. “Purely by accident. I don’t intend to make a habit of this.”
The younger Suwon looks over the elder, taking stock of his appearance. “You’re king,” he says, eyes falling on his golden hair cuff. “How long has it been?”
“Eight months, perhaps?”
“Such a narrow portal! Well, come with me, I know a place—” He breaks off in laughter. “And so do you!”
Together they walk to a quiet inn where they know they won’t be disturbed. “Tell me everything,” says the younger man.
Of course he would ask. And of course he’ll tell. “I don’t remember this,” he begins. “Meeting my older self. History is changing already.”
His younger self shakes his head. “History hasn’t happened yet,” he replies, and Suwon nods.
“Well then.” The coup must be on his mind. It’s only two weeks away, isn’t it? But he finds himself reluctant to bring it up immediately. “The most important piece I have to tell you is about General Sujin’s rebellion…”
They go over everything, or nearly. Still he doesn’t ask about the coup, and finally, Suwon can’t stand it. “Yona will be all right,” he reassures his younger self.
“...yes? None of this has anything to do with her.” His eyes widen has he abruptly remembers—Yona was never supposed to see. “Did—did something happen to her?”
“...he’s her father, of course she’ll be affected.”
“No, it’s more than that, I can see it,” he insists. “What happened?”
What should he say? He can warn himself to be more careful...if he wants the outcome to change. But what he’d thought he wanted for them—for Yona and Hak to go on all unknowing—would that really have been better?
And the other way to avoid hurting them isn’t even an option. Il has to die.
“Tell me,” his younger self insists again.
“Yona saw,” he reluctantly admits. “She knows.”
“Then I’ll make sure she doesn’t this time.”
“And then what? I know you haven’t really thought about that.” Because he hadn’t.
The younger Suwon is silent for a while. “Tell me,” he finally asks. “Does it feel as good as it should? Vengeance.”
“It feels...over.” And that will have to be enough.
His past self looks down. “That will have to be enough, he says, reminding Suwon that they really are the same person. Then he looks up again, into Suwon’s eyes, and opens his mouth to speak, but no sound comes—he’s flickering out of sight. That was quick, Suwon thinks, before he realizes—the other Suwon is the only thing that’s flickering. The world isn’t shifting around him as it sends him back to his own time, it’s...sending his younger self back instead.
“Wait!” he cries out, but it’s too late. He’s alone.
He sits there frozen for nearly an hour, thinking surely the timeline will sort itself out. It always does. But nothing happens. He remains here, in the past, and—they were so close to the same person, is that why?—and he never even told his younger self where to find the portal.
Finally, he stands up. He’s not expected in the palace for a week, and he has business in the city.
The week passes. His other self hasn’t returned, and he knows he’ll have to take his place. If he doesn’t...could he change the future so much he might jeapordize his very existence? And when his future self is really his past self...no, he has to go back. Has to see them again. Has to smile at Yona and tell her how much she’s grown (and oh, how much she will grow still), has to laugh with Hak as they compare their skill. He knew what was coming the first time around—why does this hurt so much more?
Hak tells him he’ll gladly serve him as king and he knows, knows he can’t do it. Can’t let them stay here unknowing, not when he’s seen Yona’s frozen tears and felt Hak’s bloody thirst for vengeance. He can live with many things, but not with that lie.
But he also can’t let them go, and he finds himself wondering the unthinkable.
He goes to Il the night before Yona’s sixteenth birthday. “Uncle, I know we have not always seen eye to eye. And what I’m about to tell you may be hard to believe. But there are ways of connecting the past to the future—”
“So she did tell you, in the end.”
Suwon blinks. “You know.”
“I followed your mother once, after one of her secret rendezvous with King Hiryuu. Hmm,” he frowns to himself. “And she agreed you were never to know.”
Mother knew followed by Il tried to keep this from me? followed by Hiryuu. What?
“Now, I thought I’d made it clear to you that Hiryuu has nothing to do with you.”
Now Suwon is just irritated. “This isn’t about the past. It’s about the future. I could let Father rest for Yona’s sake, but your obsession with that ancient king is going to get our country killed. I’ve seen what will happen. I know what can be done—”
“No. My daughter is Hiryuu. You are not.” And his face makes it clear that nothing more will be said.
What just happened? It’s clear they were talking past each other, Il so sure he already knew what Suwon was saying. Just what did he think he knew?
Mother knew about the time portals. Mother had met with Hiryuu. And Il thought he wanted to be Hiryuu—?
No. Impossible! But even if it were true— Does he really think I’ve forgotten what he did to Yuhon? Did Il think it didn’t matter? A scream of frustration escapes him into the empty night. There will be no compromise with King Il, nor does he ever wish there to be.
The hairpin was Mother’s. She told him it was a gift. Suwon supposes it’s only fitting that Yona have it now.
He waits until the last possible minute in the place the the portal left him, still hoping against hope that his younger self will return from the future and do what is rightly his to do. What will happen if they never trade places again? He’ll live through all those months again, until...what? The portal opens, dooming him to repeat this night yet again? Is this what has come of traveling history so freely up until now?
Is this what comes of being born of two different eras?
It’s time. “You made a mistake,” he says to Il. “This was never about Hiryuu. This is for my father. For Yuhon.” What did he say the first time? Does it matter? Yona walks in, and it’s like watching someone else. The words he chooses won’t make a difference yet he has to say something, and he’s almost grateful when Keishuk and the soldiers chase her away.
At least nothing is on fire this time.
“You—it’s tonight?” Suwon had thought himself alone in the king’s chamber. Who—? He looks up. “I finally found the portal again. We can—” His younger self freezes at the sight of blood spattered on Suwon’s robes.
“I’ve killed him twice now,” Suwon says. “You won’t remember it at all. How—?”
“Yona. Hak.”
“Yona ran…”
“Clean yourself up,” his younger self commands. “I’ll go after her.”
“No, wait—!” But he’s already gone. The other man doesn’t know what happened, won’t know the right things to say—but Suwon can’t let himself be seen, not now. Powerless, he watches from an empty guard tower.
This is wrong. Hak and Yona are supposed to get away. If he’d thought they couldn’t he would have done more to change things! Where is Minsu? Why is his past self just letting this happen?
Because I told him Yona would be fine. He grabs a bow from the guard tower’s weapons rack. It’s a cheap distraction, poorly aimed, but it’s enough.
“I’m sorry,” his other self when they find each other again, when they’re alone together, when it’s quiet. “I don’t know why it took me instead of you.”
“Because we’re the same.” Or because they don’t belong in any one time in the first place. “But what’s done is done.” And that trite phrase can never hold true again, either.
“Well, hopefully you’ll be the one to go back this time. I don’t think anyone suspected—what would they even suspect?—but there were things I just—”
“What happened?
“The Water Tribe’s daughter, are we really together? Everyone seemed to think so…”
“What? No, that’s—”
“Ah, good. She was kidnapped by Sei—but she’s safe now. Oh, and Sei will become Kouka’s vassal state. We didn’t even need to deploy the army.” He says that like it’s a good thing. “And Hak...Judo tried to kill him, even after he helped us. Have things really become like that?” He helped…? “I would have kept them out of it, I know I would have. What changed, between me and you?”
“...and you came straight back here and had to draw a sword against him. I’m sorry.” Not sorry enough, says the look in his eyes. “Someday you’ll understand.”
“...and you?” he finally asks after a sigh of reluctant acceptance. “Did everything go according to plan? Did anything change at all?”
Nothing and everything. “No,” he tells himself firmly. “Nothing has changed.”

Let's do the obvious: akayona please? Ship: geun-ta yuhon And character: sowoon
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: Kija
Least Favorite character: Kushibi
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): JaeKi, GeunYuno, plato JuSu, YoLi, NeguKou
Character I find most attractive: Tetora
Character I would marry: Kija
Character I would be best friends with: Jaeha
A random thought: I never thought it would get an anime.
An unpopular opinion:
My Canon OTP: GeunYuno
My Non-canon OTP: JuSu
Most Badass Character: Hak
Most Epic Villain: Uuuuuhhhhh….all the villains are either pathetic or not worthy of being called “epic”. Kouren was pretty epic as a villain, but she was also redeemed by arc close.
Pairing I am not a fan of: I’m not all that hot for Jaeha/Shinah.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Two years ago I would have ranted about Judo, but nowadays I’m just waiting to see what that was all about. I think everything is still being written out and it’s hard to call.
Favourite Friendship: Zeno and Shinah
Character I most identify with: Kyo-ga
Character I wish I could be: I wish I could be Yuno.
002 | Send me a ship and I will tell you:
(BTW, I’m going to assume you mean Geuntae/Yuno, but if you really meant Geuntae/Yuhon then shout back at me)
When I started shipping them: Back around 2015 or 2014.
My thoughts: Their background sounds simple enough: a noble fancies a servant and chooses her as his bride. I have a feeling that it was a superficial union and it was only after they were married that they really got to know one another. I headcanon that Geun-tae pairs “hooking up” with “calming down” because this was what he went through with Yuno. She helped ground him. However, for a while he didn’t know how to repay her for being a positive influence in his life. So when her business started kicking off, he was willing to use his status and money to spread it like wildfire to turn her hobby turned lifestyle into a success.
What makes me happy about them: I like how they’ve been established as a couple for at least five years.
What makes me sad about them: The fact that they don’t have very many appearances together.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I dunno
Things I look for in fanfic: Any fics set in the present.
My wishlist: More interactions with each other, having them side with Suwon through and through and not pull a flippin Ogi, seeing them taking care of a kid someday
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Judo. Both of them. Lol
My happily ever after for them: Just being alive together until Geuntae dies of old age and not because of a battle, Suwon have mercy
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you:
How I feel about this character: I think in the past I overestimated how deep and complex he was. While he is complex, he’s not all that hard to figure out. Plus, he has a surprisingly straight and narrow goal that is easy to understand. For as flexible as he is with his strategies, his morals and beliefs are rigid, unmoving, and blind. His mind is trapped in the past, and until he’s set free from it, he can’t move on.
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: None
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Him and Judo. I want to add him and Ogi, but god I’m pissed with Ogi
My unpopular opinion about this character: Among Suwon fans, I think how I feel about his character above sums up what my unpopular opinion is. I think the idea that he only had one choice in accomplishing his goal is also nonsense.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish he had been given more inner monos or flashbacks from his POV. Even small flashes just to give foreshadowing.
Favorite friendship for this character: Suwon & Lili
My crossover ship: Suwon x Kashima (Nozaki-kun)

WIP tag
Tagged by @zenoobsessed
List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or as little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, art, vids, gifsets, fanwork, or original work! I tag @tatzebea, @carrotcouple, @sorasan000, @sallie-nyan, @a-kouka-rat and @yelena-chan
Also want to tag @tartsplace and @another-miracle but you’re both super busy..? ;_;
So, I decided to do this for my fic-WiPs. Be warned: ALL of them are GeunYuno (They are BIG IDIOTS AND WILL NEVER GET TOGETHER FAST). I start with the ones that have at least some parts already being written, so I can call them an actual WiP.
#1 Time Travel AU (an AU to @fallenwithstyle‘s Time Travel Yonghi) filled with lovesickness. Includes #11 Healing which shows what happens after Hak wins against Geun-tae for the first time.
His footsteps echoed through the hallway of Hiryuu Castle as she tried to follow him. He walked fast. Much too fast for her. And he even carried his own luggage. And hers. "Lord Geun-Tae, you really don't need to do that..! Please, let me at least carry my own belongings."  [...] She followed him around a corner, perhaps a bit too close to the wall and..."BUMP" - "OUCH....!" - "Can't you look where you're going?!" - "THUD" - "Clatter" - "bump" - "....Damn...."The green-haired man looked at the young woman lying in front of him, picking up his spear. "Great... she's out cold."
#2 Orphan
The sun was setting, stretching the shadows of swords and lances sticking out of the ground. Beheaded corpses and dead horses were piling up. The smell of blood, splattered innards and vomit filled the air. It was far from a glorious sight, how he had viewed war and the screams of the wounded made him dizzy.
This was nothing like the wars he took part in before. Far more cruel and with a much higher death toll than any war he had ever heard or read of. Suddenly his surroundings became foggy. Pictures of the wounded and dead flashed before his eyes and pain struck him like lightning.
#3 Hostage
The package was small and light and certainly contained multiple items. Geun-tae let out a groan. This wasn't going to be something good. -- You don't have to worry, everything will be alright and I'm back in 6 days! -- He should have obeyed to the first letter. -- Do you want to accompany me? -- Taking back the troops from the border, just evacuating the villages on the front to be safe, it could have been so easy. -- I really want to go... --
#4 Heart’s desire
Light steps and the swishing of layers of fabric were getting closer. Lady Yun-Ho had heard there was a young guest on the terrace, and she certainly was curious. Carrying a tray with tea and sweets she paced towards Geun-tae and the timid girl. Smiling she placed the tray in front of the girl: "I hope you like sweets..?" Nari looked to the side, being scared to say something weird she only nodded slowly; but followed by a mumbled "thank you" a view seconds later. She couldn't risk to forget even more manners now. As she looked down to avert eye contact - feeling terribly awkward - she thought how to properly introduce herself. Talking to Geun-tae had been hard, but this was worse. "You can call me Yun-ho, so what's your name, young lady?" Somebody was faster. Not moving her head but still trying to look upwards she answered "Nari, Ma'am..." "Oh! I said you can call me Yun-ho...? I'm not THAT old...!" Yun-Ho playfully made a pouting face, but being called Ma'am was probably just as weird to her, as it was for Nari to call her by her first name just yet? Yun-ho poured tea into the cups she had put in front of Geun-tae and Nari and realized that her husband acted just as disconcerted as their guest. She pinched him. "HEY!" "Don't make such a face. You scare her!" "What.", Geun-tae groaned. Since his wife had joined them his mind had gone blank. His hands had become cold and his throat felt like somebody had poured glue into it. He didn't want to imagine her reaction. But why imagine it. It would be reality soon enough. Yun-ho looked back to Nari "He's not as scary as he looks, dear. But as much of a pleasure it is to have you as our guest - may I ask what brought you here?" Nari started coughing. She had just tried some of the tea and damn: That stuff tasted weird. "I was told I can find my father here." >Yes. Good. A very diplomatic way to tell her.< Yun-ho blinked, looking back at Geun-tae: "She's one of the guar-...?". She couldn't even finish her question, as she realized how stupid it was: Looking first at her husband's and now into the young girl's eyes. She had finally made eye contact.
#5 School and day-care Based on the school sketches from Kusanagi. P.E. teacher Geun-tae and trainee teacher Yun-ho. Also trainee teachers: Jaeha and Zeno. Headmaster Yuhon and school nurse Yonghi. Stuff will happen?
#6 Tattoos and sweets The yakuza protecting their favorite waitress. Steamy Geunyuno, srynotsry.
#7 We love you - flowery cocktails GeunYunoJudo
#8 The princess you don’t need Known as “Sibling AU”.- how to not affect the actual story
#9 How to be not scared of your father-in-law AU for sibling AU - how to really mess up canon.
#10 If I can turn back time Judo being not able to bring Geun-tae back from the battle field. Finding a way to stil safe him, while the years pass filled with taking care of Yun-ho and her child. IT WILL HURT.

My AkaYona Magical Girls AU is useful for brainstorming even if nothing else comes of it.  I keep having ideas about it and thinking, “Hm, I should re-import this into my canon-adjacent ideas...”
Latest example: I knew that in that AU, the reason Yonhi is in such poor health now is that she was wounded in battle when Soo-won was very young.  And then that got me thinking “What if that happened in Xing?  What if that was the trigger for the whole head-flinging incident (however I would render that in this cutesier bowdlerized AU)?”  And then I thought “Hey...”  The logistics are a little more challenging when Yonhi’s not a Magical Girl, but still easily manageable (like maybe, having run out of other options, Xing tried to assassinate him and she drank poison that was meant for him or something).  Would also explain why Soo-won tended to see his father’s actions then as justifiable.
A broader headcanon that followed roughly the same path is that Yuhon was a walking fountain of toxic masculinity.  (Well, I call this a headcanon, but IIRC the only time we’ve actually seen him on camera he showed up to tell his sick son “I expect you to BE A MAN and DOMINATE this thing --- by the way, your mom wanted to come but I wouldn’t let her because she’s too delicate.”  So yeah.)  In a lot of ways it’s remarkable Soo-won turned out as well as he did (related headcanon: his mom is really pretty awesome or at least does her best under the circumstances), but he is kind of low-key screwed up by it.  Like, his craving for connection with and approval from his father was a bottomless pit that could never be filled when Yuhon was alive much less after he died, and it comes out a bit in his envy of Hak and Mundok’s relationship.

Any fandom: 2, 10, 16, 27
any fandom....AnY fandom!
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP? Soowon/Lili needs to never ever turn romantic ever. (the only person I can see my very ace Soowon attempting a Relationship with is Hak) Besides, the Soowon/Lili friendship is perfect and really good for both of them and I think romance would needlessly complicate it
10. Most disliked arc? Why? I didn’t really get anything out of the whole Iza seeds Fire Tribe arc. It was following up Yona’s big moment with Kumji, so it felt kind of slow. It got interesting again when Sujin started doing his thing.
16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change? I’m gonna interpret this as “plot” rather than the anime. I would hurry along some of the plot lines we’ve been waiting on for like 130 chapters (YONHI, FOR ONE). Specifically, some more of the backstory as to what the hell happened that led to Il stabbing Yuhon and that whole series of events. It’s the thing that got the story started in the first place but it hasn’t been brought back up in SO LONG. i just feel like some of the plot strings have gotten too long and need to be tied
27. Least shippable character? I’m not an active shipper myself. I want to say Keishuk because the thought of him being shipped with someone makes me laugh. “the mysterious, dark advisor of the king and the dashing rogue”. Jaeha should seduce him.

Do you think hak is going to forgive soowon when he discusses how II killed yuhon with yona
I think that Hak can understand Soo Won to a certain degree...Hak knows how hate feels like...He is also aware that King Il was a person that Soo Won might have liked in the past...
I believe that forgiveness is the end point for all three of them.
That will be at least for Yona and Hak mean more freedom and peace for them. When they can understand the reason and at least partially relate to that, it becomes at least a little lighter...They can let go of the past and move on in their lives.
I hope this will be the case for Soo Won, too. If he could let go of the past...He is even more caught up in the past events than the other two. He is deadly ill due to an illness that persisted like a curse in his mother´s family.
He killed and ascended the throne in order to fulfill his father´s dying wish...He even considered to throw away his own life in order to protect his father...
I really hope that he will find his own way...that Soo Won will find other people he can relate to and love...people that might understand him.
The reason I say this is because neither Yona nor Hak will be likely to stay at Soo Won´s side.
Forgiveness means something different than just forgetting or ignoring situations. It means letting go of the hate and therefore the pain, but the memory is still there. It won´t be like it used to be...
Both Hak and Yona will remember what happened, but they won´t be tormented by hate anymore. They can focus on their current lives.
The same I hope for Soo Won.
If all three could move forward, could continue with their lives without being tormented by feelings of hate or guilt, this would be the best solution...in my opinion.
