Yoga all weekend. This morning, I attended the #internationaldayofyoga2017 event at the American University of Barbados. The discussion, practice and meditation was led by Nancy Flores. Yesterday evening, I attended the Barbados Association of Endometriosis and PCOS yoga session led by Tami Reilly. I thoroughly enjoyed both events, they brought some needed stress relief for me. What do you do when you’re waiting for your client to arrive for their session? You take a selfie of course!😜 After this private sesh it’s off to the last day of training for the weekend. Today we will talk a bit about finding your voice. It’s something you may not really think about until you find yourself standing (or sitting) in front of a room about to teach your very first class. Or for some it’s standing in a boardroom about to make a presentation for your job. Finding your voice is much more than being able to project it so it’s loud enough for you to be heard. It’s also a reflection of who you are; what you stand for; and how you express yourself to be understood. And sometimes until you’re in that space, in that moment you might not even know who or what that is! Exciting stuff! Floating into the weekend like.... About this floating camel pose. Whose idea was this? 👀 Anyways it’s FRIDAY! What plans have you got for the weekend? I haven’t really made any but I do hope to get out of the house. The island is in full swing of celebrating our annual Crop Over festival & that means non-stop parties culminating in Grand Kadooment! For years I suffered from major back pain and through pilates, strength training & yoga it has lessened significantly over the years. I still experience moments when my back feels so painful, I can only describe it as ‘feeling as though it’s being squeezed in a vice & it’s slowly tightening’. Butttttt even on days like that I keep moving. I continue to work on strengthening and stretching my back muscles, & I’m always grateful for days like in this photo when I can move pain free & with ease! The key is to never stop moving. Best pillow ever!!!! Soft, cushy and complete with surround sound purring! Did you know that cats not only purr when they’re content but when they’re in pain or distress? It seems to be their way of comforting themselves when feeling stressed for example when giving birth. I remember many years ago when my furbaby Scully jumped into my bed and was rubbing up against me & purring like mad! She was purring so loudly, she woke me up. I was a bit alarmed as this wasn’t her usual behaviour and I wondered what was wrong. Then I realised she must be in labour!!! OMG!! Needless to say I hopped out of bed, grabbed the box I had nearby already prepped for this moment and stayed close by. I remember I could hear her purr. Several hours later, 3 furbabies were born & I was a furbaby grandma ☺️ Yeah I said all that to say, pay close attention to your furbaby when they’re purring; look at their body language & behaviour; how they’re moving.
