YENAPOOOOOOO 💥💥 tbh im just gonna rest today and do nothing special like i might speedrun through s13 of criminal minds or watch an ep of tomorrow with rowoon or even just write and work on my smaus (mainly this 😝) because the past 2 days were really exhausting like Monday i was in the train all day along and even got lost at a train station in paris so yk stressing as hell 😭😭😭 and then yesterday we again drove a lot to go to the apartment and getting the keys as well as signing all the contracts and stressing over my final exam results was just very tiring so since i start my summer job the 10th im gonna rest until then 😁

Honestly not shocked yenas mv got taken down like regardless of the actual intent behind the song (and yes I am aware of it even if I don't think the lyrics actually convey it that well) the optics of titling a song that are HORRIBLE and the fact that no one at her company was like hm maybe like change that... not all press is good press!!!

#the lyrics should not have referenced olivia specifically At All imo it should have been about a nebulous idol (in the literal sense) figure #and then yena could just talk about how shes a huge fan of olivia in interviews or smth but... guess they wanted to go for controversy

bro do u know who's an idol that i wanna gatekeep soooo bad? dokyeom. like this is a man who's so crazy talented that he's lead vocal of a hugeee group, belts high notes Just For Fun, is moodmaker, energizer, sunshine of the group, cute and funny and adorable and sexy buff all at once and is ALSO the leader of the incredibly successful bss on the side?? he's been in a musical, TWICE (bc he was so good that they called him in to reprise the show), and no matter how much he struggles he literally never fails to have the hugest smile on his face. he's caring and gentle and loud and bubbly and he's so fucking GORGEOUS. like it's actually insane how beautiful he is. people don't appreciate him enough and i think that this is a sign that we start gatekeeping him bc if lee dokyeom is gonna be treated with anything other than kindness and love, then others don't deserve to know about him at all.

Songs of 2022, #13

[my considerations in choosing these songs!]

Lemon-Aid by Yena (August 3, 2022)

At the end of 2021, I made two playlists at the recommendation of some therapy modules I was working through at the time: activate, for when I needed to get up and move, even when I felt I couldn't; and soothe, for when my racing thoughts were triggered and I needed some peace. In the year since, my soothe playlist has been invaluable to me, an easily accessible type of soft, warm blanket in my classes and at social gatherings, and I've developed a lot of appreciation for the songs that help calm me down.

One of these is Yena's "Lemon-Aid." Though it's just a b-side on the Smartphone album, and I absolutely adore "Smartphone," "Lemon-Aid" is higher on this list because of how much its soothing atmosphere has meant to me. This track is a fluffy, tart (but so, so sweet) dessert, like the lemon bars I love from Trader Joe's, such a light meal that it's impossible not to leave on repeat (or to grab just one more from the fridge). It certainly helps that I am a long-time enjoyer of house music--after an intro of shimmering synth that helps create "Lemon-Aid"'s angelic feel, the song offers hints of the full-sounding house keys that kick in during the prechorus and give life to the chorus. I just... I just really love house keys, and the ones in this song are particularly delicious!

After "Lemon-Aid," I totally get the appeal of Yena's voice on these unabashedly pop songs--her tone only adds to their catchiness, especially in such a tender track, where she sounds almost like she's singing a lullaby. This successfully tones down the potential of her singing to reach an annoying level of chirpiness, showcasing the best of what these kinds of cutesy vocals have to offer.

Yena is a ray of sunshine, and this song fully embraces that--in fact, the main memory I associate with "Lemon-Aid" is of a sunny library parking lot, as I sat in the car with my brother just before chess club. I mostly remember the light streaming through the wide front window and the joy of driving myself around, of discovering my independence yet again on such a lovely summer's day. Thank you, Yena. Things haven't really been okay, but I've learned how to get by and why I should bother to. Getting by, it seems, starts with "la-la-la-la-lemon, la-la-la-lemonade." Cheers!

“i waited, for about forty five minutes this time. i am actually even impressed you showed up considering last time, you didn’t even tell me you weren’t gonna be able to come. left me fucking hanging at the restaurant like an idiot.“ the words are monotone, jihoon doesn’t even bother looking at her this time around, too focused on his own food to really give her the time of day properly. if anything, it would had taken a simple apology, but all he was currently hearing is excused.

does jihoon hate excuses.

he liked yena, he really did. otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so willing to put up with her recent bullshit. despite being a patient and collected person, there were things and apparently people, who would be able to snap that patience of his in half. the female idol has been doing this quite well for the past few months. jihoon has simply, had enough of it.

“listen. i’m busy as well, i get it, being busy is hard and annoying and can be difficult to manage. but not cancelling or rescheduling?“ he asks, putting his chopsticks down and finally looking at yena with a raised brow. he really has had enough. its been what? two to three months of being messed with, it’s going ever so slightly overboard at this point “i waited for hours last time, yena, you didn’t even answer my texts on time.“ there is a pause, a smile of disbelieve tugging on his lips before continuing, a huff leaving him as well “i actually can’t believe you showed up this time, damn.“
