Test Subject: Vesta Bio
Name: Test Subject Vesta
Species: Daryan
Race: Yellowscale
Role: A Test Subject of Winterkill Works whose experimental abilities have brought her nothing but misery. Tormented by the emotionally volatile people surrounding her (if not more so by her own persistent instability), she’s resorted to forming an odd, yet amicable friendship with Jupiter.
Affiliation: Winterkill Works
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Height: 5’1
Appearance: Vesta is short and fairly petite, with a compact, solid build. She has cold-hued, dark brown hair that reaches her shoulders in a messy style; it used to be longer and kept pulled back until she cut it herself during an emotional episode. Her eyes are an amber-like, yellowish shade of orange, and her body language and posture always seem rigid and tense.
Personality: Vesta’s personality has been heavily impacted by the ability she’s gained as a test subject. Extreme hyper-empathy makes her oversensitive to the presence and feelings of everyone around her, and she’s become dangerously volatile as a result. She’s left in a state of anxiety and tension, always dreading the next time she’ll be tipped over the edge. The constant mood swings are exhausting, forcing her to experience the collective misery of everyone around her, and only able to escape the onslaught when she’s completely alone. At one point, she knows she was disciplined, level-headed, and reliable, but her mind now hardly feels like her own, and the stress is taking a terrible toll on her physical health as well.
Positive Traits: Though the drawbacks of it are overwhelming, Vesta is sensitive and emotionally intelligent. She’s had to learn how to navigate her own unstable mood swings, but because of that, she’s gained an excellent understanding of others’ feelings as well. In her better moments, she’s direct, hard-working, and down-to-earth, and her mental fortitude is undoubtedly admirable. Especially because of her recent struggles, she makes an effort to show others sympathy, tolerance, and understanding.
Negative Traits: Vesta’s emotional state is a precarious balancing act that can topple at the slightest external provocation— and when it does, the results are messy. She’s prone to erratic, impulsive behavior when stressed, as well as confrontational outbursts towards the people around her. She was prone to pessimism even before the experiments, and by now, that pessimism has escalated to downright fatalistic despair. She’s a constant worrier caught up in expecting every worst-possible outcome to strike.
History: Before Winterkill Works, Vesta’s past was overall unremarkable. She’s originally from a rural area, but relocated to a larger city early enough that the change wasn’t entirely overwhelming. Getting by in the world was never exactly easy for her, but neither did she resent the challenge of figuring things out on her own. Her involvement as a Test Subject was accidental— brought about by responding to an advertised job offer, entirely ignorant as to what the so-called employer’s true intentions were.
Relationships: Vesta doesn’t get along well with her current coworkers. Nearly everyone in Winterkill Works is too emotionally volatile for her to be around safely, and her fellow Test Subjects are among the worst of the bunch. However, over time, she’s developed an odd friendship with Jupiter; he’s so mellow and even-tempered that Vesta can tolerate interacting with him... and by now, she’s found herself hopelessly attached to his company.
Interests: Vesta likes stable, level-headed people, well-thought-out plans for challenging tasks, and just about anything that qualifies as “peace”. She dislikes raised voices, crowds of any size, and losing control. She hasn’t had the time or energy to pursue personal interests, in recent years.
WW Role: As one of the specially selected Test Subjects, Vesta was given a particular experimental power. In her case, she’s developed a supernaturally acute sense of empathy that makes her aware of the people around her at all times— their presence, feelings, and moods—, and takes in those feelings as if they were her own. The more people are nearby, the worse it gets.
Miscellaneous: Vesta didn’t miss the countryside when she first left it, but lately, she’s wondered more and more whether she’d be any happier somewhere more isolated. She’s not sure if her feelings for Jupiter quite qualify as ‘romantic’, and too embarrassed by the very thought of that to consider it for long. Though she knows it’s highly unlikely, a part of her still hopes that her experimental abilities can be removed, someday. Due to spending so much time around Jupiter, she’s ended up overhearing a few potentially deadly secrets about Winterkill Works and its members.
Connotative Description: A turbulent, miserable person who fears her own emotions and loss of control over them. Empathetic to the point of agony, and too overwhelmed to claw back any semblance of stability.

Day 3! This one is a screenshot from halo.
I did it to practice clouds and water, I'm not entirely pleased, but I think I slightly improved with contrast, which is good. I will paint more clouds and water in the future.
I didn't own an xbox, but I owned combat evolved on an old CRT PC, alongside the GTA games and Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005). I didn't have sound and a faulty wire made it yellowscale, but I still remember looking at the views. Eventually I got those issues fixed, and heard those little alien freaks for the first time, changing my life.

May's is one of those people with a freakishly strong immune system. This idiot has never caught the flu in her life and probably never will. The COVID virus wouldn't survive a minute in her body. She's actually resistant to a ton of common human viruses like the herpes simplex and Epstein-Barr viruses. HIV can't even infect her at all.
However, she's also susceptible to several Pokemon exclusive diseases as a result. May is kind of a guinea pig for medication on the rare occasion she does get sick due to how fucking weird her biology is. It's entirely possible that most vaccines aren't 100% effective on her given that most of them are tested on either human or Pokemon subjects rather than someone who straddles the line between both. ( Nobody's entirely certain and no doctor's willing to put it to the test. ) She's caught Pokerus in the past. An outbreak of draconian yellowscale in Kalos once put her in the ICU for a week.

Kupka Oil on Canvas, 20x24 inches, 2013 František Kupka was a Czech painter and a pioneer and co-founder of the early phases of the abstract art movement and Orphic Cubism (Orphism). Kupka's abstract works arose from a base of realism, but later evolved into pure abstract art. Kupka’s self portrait in yellow scale is one of my favorites so I had to reimagine it in polygons. People ask me all the trine why/how I make the color and angle choices I do. I am after imperfection in the structure rather than creating something perfect which is so easy to do digitally. Also, I want a peak shift quality to the color choices creating a heightened sense of reality and finally an equal dissonance to the work so you understanding was made my a human hand. Swipe to see the piece hung in collectors home. Since she doesn’t have any friends to stay and talk to, she’s one of the first of the group out the door. Snow crunches under her shoes as she bounces down the back steps and out into the garden, intending to hurry home— but she doesn’t make it far.
“Hey, you!”
Lillianne stops. She holds her breath and takes a second to turn around, and is met with a Yellowscale boy maybe two or three years older than she is. He’s tall, with a ragged jacket and a scar on his chin.
She doesn’t say a word.
“Don’t you answer people when they talk to you?” he asks, but when that also earns no answer, he just keeps going. “Y’know, I like that coat. It’s pretty. But kinda big on you, huh?”
So that’s what this is about. Lillianne narrows her eyes and clutches her cold-reddened fingers a little tighter into her sleeve.
“I think it’d be better on someone it actually fits,” the boy says. “You can get another one, right? I mean, you have parents. It’s not like you’re all on your own.”
“Leave me alone.”
She says it coldly. Short. The boy just frowns.
“Hey, that’s no way to talk to your classmate. Helping people out is the right thing to do, ain’t it? If you want people to like you, you have to be nice. This is why nobody talks to you,” he sighs. “Y’know, I could help you make some friends if you help me out first...”
Lillianne just stares at him. Why does he think she cares about friends more than her coat? It’s a trick, obviously, and a stupid one at that.
The boy doesn’t like that response, though. “Come on, I’m trying to be nice,” he says, tone lower than the almost playful one from before. “Don’t make me do something mean to you.”
A moment passes. Lillianne turns and walks away.
She’s had enough of this, whatever it’s supposed to be. The boy’s attempts at being threatening don’t make any sense, and it’s getting annoying to listen to him trying to frighten her. Why should she stand here and listen to this?
She gets Dinah’s garden gate open and makes it down the steps before the boy grabs her roughly by the back of her coat.
Under his grip, a seam stretches, and a couple of stitches pop.
Lillianne twists. She slips out of her open coat to leave it hanging empty in the boy’s hold, lunges up, grabs a fistful of his shaggy hair, and pulls with all the built-up rage she has.
The boy, caught off guard, stumbles and falls forward. Lilliane shoves his face into the gate with a sharp clang.
Snatching his wrists with both of her hands, vice-grip on his ragged sleeves, she plants a foot right between his shoulder blades and pushes down. A strangled howl follows.
“I said to leave me alone.”
The boy is whimpering now. He tries to struggle, but Lillianne has the advantage of her weight pushing down on him. Even though she’s smaller than he is, with his arms wrenched behind his back, he doesn’t have the leverage to throw her off.
A second later, he’s whimpering. Crying, from the sound of it, his face still mashed up against the harsh metal of the gate.
Lillianne stares, silent.
“Why are you crying? You started it.”
She says that and holds him there for maybe ten seconds more, just to make sure he’s not going to do this again, then lets his trembling body drop. Picking up her coat from the snowy ground, she brushes off the caked-on clumps of white, pulls it back over her shoulders, and walks away. The boy doesn’t try to follow her.
