“Animagus” marauders x animagus!reader | 777 words
Summary: after months of preparation, you're finally ready for your first transformation
No cw
Feels kinda choppy but I can’t be bothered. Not proofread.
You'll never look at a mandrake the same. Their leaves are so bitter.
Sure, it's been several weeks since you set your mandrake leaf into the vial with the other potion ingredients, but you can swear you can still taste it. You take a deep breath.
The vial is filled with a mouthful of blood red liquid, a potion that has developed in the dark without interference until this storm. You all had been buzzing all day. The weather-predicting charm that Remus had cast easily warned you all of the storm tonight, and as soon as you all heard the first lightning strike, James had retrieved the potion. Just as the spell says.
It was an odd feeling at first---the feeling of a second heartbeat alongside your own. But you soon got used to it, and by now it's as familiar as your own.
James, Remus, and Sirius all watch as you take a deep breath. This is almost ceremonial, the way that you have an audience, the way you're sitting with your legs folded underneath you on the floor, the way that this is going to be the last time you recite this incantation. The boys sit in a row on Remus’ bed, all waiting for you. They look about as nervous as you feel.
This is supposed to hurt. They didn't sugarcoat it. The feeling of your bones breaking and molding into different shapes for the first time is going to be painful, and there's nothing that you can do about it but grit your teeth and bear it.
Well, here goes.
“Amato amino animato animagus.” You say with the tip of our wand to your heart. For the last time, that double heartbeat appears. You think a quick goodbye to it before knocking back the small vial in your hand, swallowing the entire potion in one gulp.
It burns down your throat. The second heartbeat ricochets through your body alongside a feeling like your blood is on fire, and James reaches out a hand to stop Remus from going to you as you brace your hands on the floor. The pain leaves you gasping, and it only gets worse. Your bones creak and crack, and you feel every break.
But it’s over as soon as it starts, and soon you’re left panting through a respiratory that is both foreign and familiar. When you open your eyes from where they were scrunched, you see a pair of paws on the floor in place of your hands.
“How are you feeling?” Remus asks, tentative, and you look up at him. All of the color seems to have leached from your surroundings, replaced by muddy blues and grayish yellows. You blink up at him.
“She doesn’t look like she’s still in pain.” James grins, expression morphing from the concern that he’d been feeling since you had all sat down. There are a lot of ways that this could have gone wrong, something Remus had pointed out a few dozen times during the process. Sirius had taken on the task of attempting to quell his fears, having spent months pointing out that it would be a lot easier for you since James and he have already done it.
It’s odd to walk on four paws instead of your feet, but you test your strides anyway, making a small circle before walking up to where the boys sit. Sirius leans down to offer you a hand, and you sniff it for a moment before bunting your head against his palm.
“You're a cat.” Sirius informs you. “An orange one.”
You mraw up at him, standing on your back legs to brace your front paws on his knees. Remus reaches in front of James to rub behind your ears, and you lean into his hands as purring wells up in your throat.
“You remember how to change back?” James asks. He joins Remus in petting you. You rub at his hand.
After a bit, you go back to where your wand lays on the carpet, sitting beside it and picturing yourself in your mind's eye. You will your form to change, and it does, moving from cat to human.
Fatigue hits you as you pull your wand from the ground. James takes it from your fingers and sets it on Remus’ nightstand, as the others come to sit with you on the floor. Sirius takes your weight against his shoulder like it was made for him, and Remus kisses the palm of your hand.
“You did great.” Remus hums into your skin, the ridges of a scar on his cheek under your fingertips.
“Anything for our Moony.” You tell him.

Congrats on your milestone!!!
❤️ I would love numbers 30 and 34 from list 3 if possible- please and thank you 😊
hey hey!! thank u for being here! this was a toothrotting set of prompts for which i applaud u for dear GOD <3 i hope u enjoy it as much as i enjoyed writing it hehe - FYI: fem!reader
It’s a snot-fest, honestly.
Like anyone can blame for crying on your wedding day. Well, you call it crying but Robin had called it blubbering which might be more of an appropriate word for it. Some silly part of your soul sings when she tells you that Steve is doing no better, two doors down the hall from you, and apparently on his 2nd box of tissues already.
How the pair of you are going to survive the ceremony is beyond anyone.
You do, though. It helps that it’s not really a proper ceremony. There’s no priest, no officiant that isn’t just one of your friends. Along with a series of other undisclosed skills, Murray surprisingly has the legal power to wed you. Strange man, you think to yourself, but you’re thankful for it. Keeps the wedding among friends.
It’s small numbers, just enough of you to fill the backyard. You get married amongst the flowers, in the evening sunlight, just enough of a breeze to swish your dress. It's a perfect first event to hold in the glorious backyard of your new home.
Will had painted the bunting that’s strung above your heads, pastel and dreamy, fluttering in the wind. The bouquet in your hands was gathered by Erica and Lucas, who had taken the job very seriously, and found beautiful purple and yellow flowers from the nearby meadow. Eddie pleads Steve to let him set off fireworks after the ceremony, sneaking you a wink that tells you he probably will anyways. It's hard not to feel utterly surrounded by love.
Steve’s eyes are already red rimmed by the time you meet him at the altar.
His vows are short but bursting with love. He promises all the important things, like to always split the last pancake with you, to only use his puppy dog eyes when he really wants something, and to never let his girl go a day without a proper good kiss.
After your teenage adventures with alternate dimensions, the til death do us part comes as easy as air. And you mean it.
Despite all your practice, the kiss is a bit fumbled — too much excitement between the both of you. It‘s a bit alike to the first time you kissed Steve, way back when. This time, however, the clumsy kiss means something different all together. Steve has no shyness around kissing you; it’s his own excitement for the future trickling through. For your future together.
His warm hands hold you tightly. You don't even mind that Steve hasn't waited for Murray to tell him he can kiss the bride.
As Murray announces your official union, Eddie and Dustin yell like they’re attending a concert and not a wedding, hooting and swinging their ties above their head. Robin attempts to join them but can’t get hers undone for the life of her and instead, helicopters it around in her hand while it's still attached to her neck. Steve laughs as he steals a glance at the small crowd, the garden filled with love, and swallows, his throat thick with emotion.
He turns back to you, eyes shining, and presses his forehead down against yours. You feel full, breaking at the seams with how affection runs wild in your veins. You think you could live in this moment forever — could bottle it and drink it and get stupidly drunk with how in love you feel.
“Thanks for marrying me,” Steve murmurs, words wobbly. Words meant just for you. His eyes scan your face, the brown a bit lighter through his tears. You wonder if he’s committing this moment to memory as you are. “Wasn’t sure I’d have any takers for a minute there.”
You startle a laugh that comes out doused in emotion. A poke at the time he’d floundered for dates for more than a year after the break up with Nancy; at least, he had until you came into the picture. There’s irony in it, considering how you’d seemed to be enamored with each other from the very beginning.
You think you’ve always known you’d end up here, with him, one way or another.
“That’s okay,” It comes out awfully sentimental, even as you aim for a jest. “Any time, really.” You say, with an insistent nod and another wet-sounding laugh.
Steve’s chest tightens impossibly — he feels like he’s got no heart at all, just a cavity that you fill with burning hot love. The flowers dance in the wind behind you, your friends clap and cheer, but it all feels worlds away. There’s no room for any other emotion, just love.
“I have never loved you as much as I do right now.” He says, voice sappy beyond words. It’s genuine, the words as tender as they are softly spoken. It’s a whisper on the wind but not a secret.
You don’t need to tell him the same, he already knows. You remind him with another kiss and finally remember your friends, feet inching towards the makeshift aisle. There’s bouquets of wildflowers tied to the seats with twine. You’re in love.
“C’mon, husband.” You say, grin like starlight. Steve thinks he could hear those words forever.
join the celebration!

Love, love, love the birds worldbuilding in Himring.
I've actually been digging through links looking for birds that occupy Nan Elmoth and the surrounding area - Himlad, northern Estolad, the banks of the Celon.
Any thoughts about the flying critters living around there?
I’ll start with Himlad!
Flora, fauna, geography and environment masterlist
Himlad was a realm in Eastern Beleriand, bordered on the West by the river Aros and on the East, its tributary, Celon. It means ‘cool plain’ in Sindarin and was described simply as a cold region, likely due to its proximity to the March and thus to the Iron Mountains, the cold fronts of which extend throughout the surrounding regions.
I have imagined it as a steppe environment with an ecology similar to Mongolia. We have little information on environment other than the description of cold but some speculation can be done due to the habitat and through looking at similar real habitats, mostly in Northern Europe and temperate parts of Asia as well as parts of North America which Tolkien was inspired by the prairies in (source: The Flora of Middle Earth)
As always I include world building notes at the end so it’s not just a list of species! And as always please consider the list incomplete! There are so so many birds and I often go back to add more. Feel free to request a more specific prompt to focus on or a more specific family of birds
In the plains and steppe: tawny pipit (migratory, traveling west in the winter), David’s snowfinch, brown accentor, Siberian stonechat (also found in shrubs), rosy starling, swan geese, steppe partridge, pallas’s sandgrouse, great bustard, common cuckoo (migratory), cornrail (migratory, avoids the more arid parts), bearded vulture, crested lark, golden eagle, steppe eagle, imperial eagle, grey faced buzzard, ring necked pheasant, hazel grouse, black grouse, blue rock thrush, common quail, horned owls, gray partridge, desert warbler
Roosting in the sparse trees and shrubs: Yellow browed bunting, common rosefinch, fieldfare, stock dove, common nightjar, little owl, pine bunting
River shores: snow bunting (migratory), red necked crane (migratory), greater painted snipe, osprey, coturnix quail, grey heron, hen harrier, white throated dipper, bank swallow
Other: fork-tailed swift (migratory, mainly aerial), white headed duck, house sparrow, brambling (migratory), song thrush (migratory), black billed caper, northern wren
World building notes:
-Hunting with eagles and other birds of prey is more common than in the other Fëanorian realms (though most utilize birds at least sometimes). Golden and steppe eagles are used primarily by Celegorm and his loyal servants; these are huge and beautiful birds whose use is in some ways a boast of the skill of their handlers
-Celegorm’s knowledge of the language of birds is highly utilized for the defensive and offensive projects of Himlad. Though his followers do not for the most part have this gift they are highly skilled in using tracks, traces and conditions to understand the presence of local birds and the implications thereof. They know what to make of the stray tail feathers of a steppe partridge versus the presence of molt. They know the difference between the tracks of
Of course this applies to other creatures besides birds but as this post is about birds…
-Grouse and quail are sometimes kept for meat and eggs though different species of quail then are kept by the Marchwardens of Doriath. Some of the species are brought from Estolad, Ossiriand or Western Beleriand. The birds are housed in large open pens with small nesting boxes.
-There are also domestic species of chicken, peacock and quail like birds that are kept for similar reasons. Hybrid species, sometimes with native species, occur naturally and through planned breeding projects during the Long Peacd
-The camouflage of steppe creatures including birds is often used in the fashion of Himlad’s soldiers.
-The various sections of archers among the army and scouts are distinguished by varying types of feathers used in their arrows. For example, Swan goose feather is used for the scouts that patrol the borders and rivers, swift feathers are used among the smaller more specialized groups and golden eagle feathers are reserved for the archers who will be first in the lines of offensive movements.
-Game birds are hunted for meat though all parts are used. Bird bones are actually highly utilized by the host of Himlad, in jewelry and headwear as well as whistles and other tools.
As always please feel free to ask more!

i said i'd do band codes and so band codes there shall be
current list of settled forms of states in the exesverse can be found here!
regular bird bands have longer codes and information on how to report them, etc. that's not as fun as 4-5 digit system, though!
rather long post below cut.
okay, so first up b/c i mentioned them in the tags of the previous post:
the texas squad in the exesverse has a settled great-tailed-grackle form and would probably be given the band code ST1 or 1ST, for 'lone star'. as banded grackles are a bit unusual, this might get them a little attention. i think the idea of texas squad being harassed by fascinated wild grackles trying to steal the leg band is funny as hell. texas system also has a pit tag in snake-shape and a radio transmitter in bat form.
california has, as those familiar with the series may know, the single largest settled birdskin in the statehouse as a california condor. ordinarily, as they're critically endangered, reintroduced and wild california condors are given large over-wing tags to be able to identify them from a distance. california, however, only has a leg band, likely labeled GS79 or CA79, both referencing the atomic number of gold. california does not have a radio telemetry collar, but does have an ear tag in bear form. lizard form has a pit tag.
alaska was the trickiest of these three. as a snowy owl, he's got a chunkier bird band going on. Likely LF49 (for Last Frontier & 49th state) or LF50 (for Last Frontier and admission date of 1950.) obviously not going to use the state abbreviation for this one. snowy owl is not state bird but is very cool. and also extremely quiet. alaska does not have either a radio telemetry collar or an ear tag in bear form, but does have a transmitter in his shark form.
now on to alphabetical order for representations with birdskins! there are less jokes i can make re: numbers with everyone else, but i'll try my best. most likely going to be admission dates & order
alabama is settled as a northern flicker (yellow-shafted). given the colloquial name for this bird is yellowhammer (yes there's a bunting from europe with the same name... but... they don't HAMMER...). given the... other nicknames for alabama, that leaves the only real viable option as YH19, YH22, or AL19 or AL22.
colorado's first suggestion re: band code was rejected by virtue of being too similar to connecticut. CO00 was a) available and b) funnier, so he's very happy with it (state abbreviation + centennial state (100th anniversary), it rolls back over to 00). his bird form is a lark bunting (state bird, generally a delight)
dc (city) -> wood thrush! band code is DC90, as there isn't any admission date since they aren't a state (yet)
florida's band code is a bit unusual with three letters and one number: SUN1 (sunny!). this is very difficult to read given it's like. the size of a pinhead, as he's a ruby-throated hummingbird.
georgia has probably had a band code for a very long time. like most of the original 13, georgia's brown thrasher shape uses admission number, not admission date, with a pretty simple GA04.
gov's got a pretty simple tag too! GOV0. his bird form is a bald eagle but in the fish stealing little bastards (affectionate) way. don't ascribe him any dignity, he is not owed even the barest hint of it.
for safety reasons, hawaii rarely uses her bird form, as there are no wild ʻalalā left due to introduced diseases. for this reason, she is also unbanded.
i have a lot of unsettled/indet states on the list (feel free to suggest something, folks!) so that brings us to maryland. most likely OL400 (from the history of the nickname 'old line state'). Outlier with a five-number code! settled as a baltimore oriole. likely gets less but similar conspecific harassment over the band tag as texas+.
next on the settled list is minnesota as a common loon, with yet another unusual band code! minnesota's is K10, for 'land of 10,000 lakes'
a couple more undetermined and unsettled states go by, and now we're getting into the 'news', haha!
kind of wrote myself into a corner with new jersey and lesser black-backed gull, but new jersey has NJ03, the only reason why california can maintain a possible GS code.
new mexico is a greater roadrunner (no surprise there) with the band code of EC12 (enchantment-1912). his javelina form has a radio collar.
new york is still mad about not being able to shift a pigeon as they're domestic, so he went with the next best thing. he is a peregrine falcon with the band code NY11.
still have undetermined forms for the next few, so that brings us to:
oklahoma (scissor-tailed flycatcher), band code SO01, for sooner state.
oregon is an osprey with the band code BS33, which has been made fun of before and will likely be made fun of again.
pennsylvania is a ruffed grouse, band code KEY2, a break from usual patterns.
puerto rico gets puerto rican spindalis with a likely code of IE52 (isla de encanto + PR constitution ratification date of 1952)
lastly, bringing up the pack is south carolina with a carolina wren banded with PM08 (palmetto & 8th admisson)
