Something that I just need to get off my chest, and tbh I'm curious what you and your followers think about this topic: I'm Jewish and for shorthand purposes, a Zionist, but out of fairness and intellectual honesty I do try to read opinions/articles coming from an anti-Zionist perspective. I specifically look for ones that aren't explicitly antisemitic (which narrows it down substantially) and acknowledge the valid claims of both peoples (narrowing it down even further.) In several of these more balanced articles, I've seen extensive analysis of "Jewish fear" and how the politics of fear impact the situation. At first I was trying to take this perspective in, because I have seen fear (even legitimate fear) be weaponized. On the other hand, though, the longer I think about it, the more I really don't like how most of them approached that discussion. It comes across very "get over yourselves" and "get past the past," and I just find that extremely frustrating. Because the thing is this: it's not paranoia, or post-trauma, or even particularly remote in time. It's a completely rational fear when one looks at the last 2500 years of history and stacks that up against what Palestinian leadership's stated goals are re: removing Jews from the land. And there's never any real concrete plan for how to keep Jews safe from another genocide (or multiple) if we don't have self-determination somewhere, ideally somewhere we have a valid historical claim to. It just gives me strong "go back to your husband and save your marriage; I'm sure he'll change" energy. Why should we believe that it'll be different. The bones of Babi Yar weigh that scale down pretty far and so far there's naught but a feather on the other side. Hopes, wishes, thoughts & prayers, etc. Anyway it really rubs me the wrong way.
It's not remote at all.
Less than 90 years ago, major cities from Vienna to Warsaw to Alexandria to Baghdad were all 25% Jewish. To put that in context, New York City today is about 18% Jewish. 100,000 Iranian Jews were forced to flee for their lives from an "antizionist-not-antisemitic" regime in 1979, the same year Alien came out. Poland banished its pathetic surviving remnant of Jews in 1968 as collective racial revenge for defeating the Soviet bloc's Arab client states; that was 8 years after Ruby Bridges climbed those school steps.
What is ancient history? What doesn't matter anymore?
You are right to see it as a "go back to your husband" vibe. Whenever I have told social-justice leftists about the unreliability of America, about the Jewish need for a state that is guaranteed to defend us if America goes the same way all prior diaspora countries did, several of them have told me that American Jews must stay and fight for their country and force it to be safe for them. I can't help but notice that they say no such thing about Mexicans or Syrians, for whom fleeing to a safer country is seen as an unquestionable right - no matter how much racism that safer country may have anyway.

Comment on Star trek Tng Farpoint:
-First episode and captain Picard is already in the position of having to prove humanity as not a savage race, easy peasy. I would say that he is going to loss hair due to the stress but yeah
-Q is constantly checking out Picard. I don’t have words. Pretty sure Q stole his shirt in the end
-Geordi and Data haven’t interacted yet :( I feel betrayed
-You know what the vid they showed Riker needs? The Careless whisperer song
-Tasha Yar is great! I hope nothing wrong happens to her ever
-Thank Q the gigantic space jellyfish weren’t revengeful (I want what they have btw)
-“I’m leaving because I want to, not because you told me to” Lmao????
-Q: :D I’ll be back
Picard: please don’t

ok, belated tng update time. idr what day it was (monday?) but we did "remember me" and "legacy."
remember me: THIS RULED!!! i absolutely cannot believe that 1. they give beverly crusher nothing to do ever 2. she was almost KICKED OFF THE SHOW FOREVER? 3. i used to dislike her so much. when you give this woman half a chance she totally, absolutely steals the show. not only can she act in the most technical sense, but beverly herself can be stubborn and brave in the face of danger and she is SO MUCH MORE than Just A Mom! (tm) which is all we were getting from her for season 1. and then in season 3 she really only got a few chances to show her stuff, most notably the terrorism episode, which is a bummer cuz that was not the best episode but SHE was great in it. and she was also also in this
the point being i want more of her being cool and good. i really loved everything she had going on here. running around and talking like a crazy person and not ONCE (ok, one time) did anyone suggest she was crazy. they just believed her!
WHICH IS NUTS BECAUSE IT TURNED OUT SHE LITERALLY WAS CRAZY. like it all happened that way bc she got too deep in her cups about her dead husband
speaking of: the plot twist in this episode. mwah. so good. and she was so smart to figure it out on her own where they couldn't help her, and it was so smart that EYE also was tricked but it didn't feel like unfair trickery. because i knew SOMETHING had happened.
the whole episode was just so spooky and cool, i was on the edge of my seat every minute, it never felt too slow or rushed, it was perfect
anyway support women. support women in the medical field. support women in the workplace. support women with sons who trap them in warp bubbles.
legacy: once again we dishonor the memory of tasha yar...not really but it BROKE me knowing she DIED FOR SOMETHING but nobody in this timeline would remember that!!!!!!!!
i like her sister honeypotting data. he literally almost bagged both yar girls and good for him
once again: rape gangs mention. it's been so long. after all this it was almost disappointing not to see them. almost.
actually though it's really fucked up that tasha just left her and revenge would've been a good motivator...but in some ways, it's even more fucked up that it wasn't. like she just doesn't care. she doesn't care about anything but her shitty gang war on this shitty planet, and goes back to it and (i looked it up) never appears in canon again. that's just her life. sister left and then died for nothing and she will also die for nothing and data will carry around that little holographic photo and now that bomb implant for the rest of his little android life. wack.
NEXT TIME: "reunion" and "future imperfect."

ROUND 1 BRACKET LISTINGS
Welcome to Round 1 of the Wasted Woman Poll, the tournament to see which fridged woman deserved better!
Thank you everyone for your patience for Round 1 to begin. Now that the semester is over, I finished the list of match-ups for the Round 1 bracket.
There were 89 contestants for this tournament. Anyone familiar with tournaments knows that it doing a 89-contestant, single-elimination tournament would be annoying. Rather than cutting out 25 contestants to make it a 64-contestant tournament, I opted to use the format of a 64-contestant tournament, just with some of the poll in Round 1 (a majority of them, actually) being three-way polls with a single winner rather than solely two-way polls. So out of the 89 contestants going into Round 1, only 32 will go on to Round 2. Many of the listings in Round 1 will be characters from the same series going against each other, so that the future rounds will be more varied.
The tournament will be split into 4 sets of 8 polls each, with every poll running for a whole link. Below the cut will be the list of match-ups for each set and when the polls will premiere.
If there are any mistakes at all (spelling, if a character appears twice, if the media someone is listed under is incorrect, etc.) please let me know! I did double-check it, but I'm only human so errors do happen.
