i think ive finally settled on the way i draw my cephalings so behold! me being a gay little spec bio nerd!

text for those who cant read my handwriting under the cut

Octolings:

tentacles on head are prehensile (+ tail)

sclera are typically green or yellow

skin texture can change

stands on toes

opposable "thumb" for climbing in the domes

Inklings:

only tail is prehensile

sclera are typically white

smoother skin

more plantigrade build

"thumb" is more like a spur on inklings

Both:

neck gills can be ink colored or skin colored

skin markings differ from person to person

blue blooded

How Do Your Xeno Inklings Reproduce If They Don't Have Genitals?

anon please stop capitalizing the first letter every time. anyways here's the information I have memorized (it's a bit in depth ??)

Basically all inklings are sorta like clownfish. There's these two little sacks in their body that when together can either create an egg or if one is inactive, it can create sperm. I'd tell you how it works if I knew (i am not a scientist!!) (this change also takes a while so when an inkling is transferring to being able to do the opposite thing, their partner helps take care of them and make sure there's no issues :] )

In order for an egg to be fertilized, they drop the eggs and then shove them into water. Most of the time an inkling will separate one or two unfertilized eggs to put into the water, and then consume the rest. (very nutritious !)

Once an egg is in the container of water (preferably a large body of water, but any works as long as it's not too crowded), the one with the sperm will sorta go into the water with the eggs and go pshoo in the hopes the eggs take it.

My hc is that inklings / octolings don't explode when they're in water outside of battle. Ink tanks explode when submerged and combine that with the messed up ink pressure to produce more ink, that will lead to death as they basically dissolve under water :]

I think the eggs would be pretty small, like small enough to fit in a palm and be expelled easily, but still big enough that the development can occur without issue.

POV : you just complimented two young punks about their ear piercings and they thank you by schooling you to hell and back

-Long story short ; I have a feeling that since they have no visible eardrum hole to actually serve the hearing function, the inkfish "ears" aren't actually their ears, but the humanoid version of their fins ; or more accurately of the floppy bits on their heads from their original species.

So they aren't actually ears, but they're used for fashion, conveying emotions (they can move them more or less consciously, much like a cat), and also and mainly for protecting their actual ears, located behind them, from weather conditions (like wind or sand storms), from direct impact during fighting circumstances, and from currents, like when they swim.

Their headphones are actually always designed to somehow cover the little slits that are their actual ears. (The fins play as mere structural support then.)

...This is a theory of mine that just kinda jumped in my face when thinking about how Inkling ears are completely flat, and even if it isn't going to stop me from drawing their fins like actual ears, it's cool to have an explanation about that design. Hope you like it too 🤗

My take on Agent 4!! She's an absolute piece of shit, and the worst part is he's too good at his job for anyone to say anything about it. Uses weapons like the Reef-Lux or Hydra, whatever she finds more annoying/overpowered.

Also like, super gay for Neo 3. Super gay. (And sorry for the @, but I wanted to give credits for the patterns on their body, which were inspired by @bunnybrainrot's inklings!!)
