[#] Also Matching Outfits do their first night out this week end Sat 27.01, at Backereck (Ockerstr.35) for Ceiling Rat Shakedown concert series. They will share the stage with Slipper!

[#] Finally, this coming Sunday long awaited live show for The Shna at Sunday Matinee @xbsundaymatinee in Villa Kuriosum, with Raving Mad Carlos sci-fi, and Sestra. As usual, topped with vegan food, a tasteful dj set...children friendly, wheelchair accessible and full of amazing vibes <3 !

[#] Long time no news entry! Here’s some!

[#] First an unpleasant thing. Deutsche Post increased massively the cost of the so-called “Buch und Wären Sendung”, the small packages that you typically received with out tapes. The cost to ship to the US will be close to 9 €! In order to not shift all the cost to our fans oversees, we had to increase the cost of tapes to 6 €. We didn’t want to join the speculation crowd, but it is really Deutsche Post that forced us to do that.

[#] After a very excellent show in West Germany almost two weeks ago, where they presented also some new songs, Halfsilks will play Fusion Festival this week end, they will be on stage Saturday. In the same festival you ca catch also Jana’s solo Point No Point and Karen’s band Gym Tonic. And, as usual, a lot of very great music, and an inimitable atmosphere.

Grief Scene is a indie trio composed by Berlin’s usuals: the people you’ve already seen in other bands and you’re like: “Holy schnapps! I’ve seen him play drums with that other band and has that other solo experimental-ambient (or industrial?) thingy project, and here’s playing indie guitar music with a surprising vibrato singing! Each time under a different “spell” and/or part of different ensembles, Herr Ryusui will join this edition of The Sunday Matinee with GZHI: a fresh new project out of Berlin composed by Tatsumi on electric guitar, Adam Goodwin on electric bass and Itta Nakamura on drums. Our View on the Recent Eviction of the XB Collective from its Venue at Liebigstr 34

We are a group that has been organizing Sunday afternoon matinee shows at XB-Liebig for the past 26 months, featuring a wide range of musicians and performance artists under the heading of the XB SUNDAY MATINEE. In our experience, the reproaches made in the “Statement über den Rausschmis des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” claiming that members of the XB collective are racists, sexists, abusers, and assholes have no basis in reality. On the contrary, the XB collective has provided support and safety at every one of our events. People in the matinee group haven’t only organized monthly Sunday shows at XB, but also a good deal of evening events there. Especially at the evening shows, the XB collective has always been vigilant in watching out for potential threats to our diverse, curious, and respectful audience and guests. In fact, XB was the ideal space for our events because of the safety and respect that the XB collective offers. The concept of our matinee is to put on all inclusive, smoke-free and child-friendly shows. We aim to have at least half of the performing artists identify as female. Again, this goal of inclusion is completely in line with the values of the XB collective. Those who wrote and support the “Statement über den Rausschmis des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” seem to object to the inclusive politics of the XB collective, and it seems like they have framed this objection in outrageous and baseless claims of racism, sexism, transphobia and abuse within the XB collective. In reality, the members of the XB collective have shown us nothing but consistency in their actions as well as their politics of inclusion and respect. In contrast, those who wrote and support the “Statement über den Rausschmis des XB-BarKollektivs” seem to point fingers with claims of abuse on one hand, and with the other hand they abuse an XB member through a brutal ejection from the venue. It was actually eight hands that physically abused and removed the XB member who was woken up in their sleep, surrounded by people in masks, and violently carried out. Those who wrote and support the “Statement über den Rausschmis des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” can practice their aggressive politics of exclusion all they want. Yet their doing so harms not only the alternative culture of Berlin; it also damages the very causes that are important to them. Because of the eviction of the XB collective, many artists have to cancel events that have been planned for months in advance. (Not just our events, but many events.) And among those artists are female or non cis-male identifying people who now suddenly and abruptly do not have a venue for their art. With the eviction of the XB collective, there is now one less space in Berlin for alternative culture and art. And the number of DIY spaces in the city is already in rapid decline. Those who wrote and support the “Statement über den Rausschmis des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” play right into the hands of state actors and their strategy to divide and conquer all who oppose the gentrification of Berlin, to drive up speculation, to eliminate non-corporate DIY spaces, and to further turn the left against itself. One goal of the XB SUNDAY MATINEE is to bring culture and art and awareness of left spaces to people who might not have otherwise come in direct contact with DIY art and these spaces. We have built many connections this way. And thanks to the openness of the XB collective, we have been able to offer diverse, exciting and inclusive music and performance art on a regular basis. The fact that the people who wrote and support the “Statement über den Rausschmis des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” perpetrate abusive treatment of the XB collective is disgraceful. Especially coming from self-proclaimed feminist, anti-racist, anarchist individuals, this is irresponsible, incoherent and harmful for everyone that is fighting for those ideals. We believe in the importance of our Matinee project that we started with members of XB, using XB facilities. Since the bar under L34 is no more in use after the violent take over,  we are determined to find a new space and to keep our project alive. We believe we owe this to the community that we make contributions to create, to the artists, to our audience, friends, to the XB collective and to the DIY independent culture still existing (and fighting to exist) in Berlin.

Unsere Sicht auf den kürzlichen Rausschmiss des XB-Kollektivs aus seinen Räumlichkeiten in der Liebigstraße 34

Wir sind eine Gruppe, die über die letzten 26 Monate unter dem Titel “XB SUNDAY MATINEE” Matinee-Konzerte an Sonntagnachmittagen im XB-Liebig veranstaltet hat. Im Verlauf dessen boten wir einer breitgefächerten Anzahl von Musikern, Musikerinnen, Performance-Künstlern und -künstlerinnen eine Bühne. Ausgehend von dieser Erfahrung, geben wir zu Protokoll, dass die im “Statement über den Rausschmiss des XB-Bar- Kollektivs” vorgebrachten Anschuldigungen, Mitglieder des XB-Kollektivs seien Rassisten, Sexisten, Missbrauchstäter und Arschlöcher, nicht der Realität entsprechen.

Ganz im Gegenteil hat das XB-Kollektiv bei jeder unserer Veranstaltungen Unterstützung geleistet und die Sicherheit gewährleistet. Mitglieder der Matinee-Gruppe haben nicht nur monatlich an Sonntagen Konzerte im XB organisiert, sondern darüber hinaus eine Vielzahl von Abendveranstaltungen. Insbesondere während dieser Abendveranstaltungen war das XB-Kollektiv stets wachsam gegenüber potentiellen Bedrohungen für unsere diversen, neugierigen und respektvollen Publikumsgäste.

Tatsächlich war das XB-Liebig gerade wegen der durch das XB-Kollektiv gewährleisteten Sicherheit und des durch das Kollektiv hervorgebrachten Respekts der ideale Raum für unsere Events. Das Konzept unserer Matinee ist es, für alle offene, rauchfreie und kinderfreundliche Konzerte zu veranstalten. Dabei verfolgen wir den grundsätzlichen Anspruch, wenigstens die Hälfte der Auftretenden aus weiblich-identifizierenden Menschen zusammenzusetzen. Diese inklusive Zielsetzung deckt sich vollkommen mit den Grundsätzen des XB-Kollektivs.

Die Verantwortlichen hinter dem “Statement über den Rausschmiss des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” scheinen Anstoß zu finden an den inklusiven Politiken des XB-Kollektivs. Dieser Punkt des Anstoßes schlägt sich auf empörende Weise nieder in den gegen das XB-Kollektiv hervorgebrachten, haltlosen Beschuldigungen des Rassismus, Sexismus, der Transphobie und des Missbrauchs. Die Realität stellt sich so dar, dass die Mitglieder des XB-Kollektivs nichts als Konsistenz zur Schau gestellt haben in ihren Handlungen, ihren inklusiven Politiken und ihrem Respekt. Im Gegensatz dazu zeigen die Verantwortlichen hinter dem “Statement über den Rausschmiss des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” in ihren Missbrauchsbeschuldigungen mit dem Finger auf Andere, während sie selbst ein XB- Kollektivmitglied misshandeln: durch dessen brutalen Hinauswurf aus den Räumlichkeiten. So waren es acht Hände, die das Kollektivmitglied körperlich misshandelten bei dessen Entfernung – das Kollektivmitglied wurde aus dem Schlaf gerissen, von Maskierten eingekreist und gewaltsam nach draußen getragen.

Die Verantwortlichen hinter dem “Statement über den Rausschmiss des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” können ihre aggressiven Politiken der Exklusion ad nauseam praktizieren. Ihr Handeln schadet allerdings nicht nur der alternativen Kultur Berlins, es fügt auch genau der Sache Schaden zu, die ihnen wichtig ist. Durch die Zwangsräumung des XB-Kollektivs müssen vielen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern Veranstaltungen abgesagt werden, die seit Monaten im Voraus geplant waren. (Nicht nur ausschließlich unsere Veranstaltungen, viele andere Veranstaltungen darüber hinaus.) Davon betroffen sind auch viele weiblich- oder nicht-cis- männlich-identifizierende Kunstschaffende, deren Kunst nun keine Bühne findet.

Mit der Zwangsräumung des XB-Kollektivs existiert nun ein alternativer Kunst- und Kulturraum weniger in Berlin. Dabei nimmt die Zahl der DIY-Räume in der Stadt bereits rapide ab. Die Verantwortlichen hinter dem “Statement über den Rausschmiss des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” spielen den staatlichen Akteuren in die Hände; mit deren Strategie, alle, die der Gentrifizierung Berlins entgegenstehen, zu spalten und zu bezwingen – um Immobilienspekulation zu befeuern, non-kommerzielle DIY-Räume zu eliminieren und die Linke weiter gegen sich selbst auszuspielen.

Ein Ziel der XB SUNDAY MATINEE ist es, Kultur, Kunst und linke Räume Menschen näherzubringen, die möglicherweise ansonsten keine direkten Berührungspunkte mit DIY- Kunst und diesen Räumen haben. Auf diese Weise haben wir viele Kontakte geknüpft. Dank der Offenheit des XB-Kollektivs waren wir in der Lage, ein regelmäßiges diverses, aufregendes und inklusives Angebot an Musik und Performance-Kunst aufzubauen. Dass die Verantwortlichen hinter dem “Statement über den Rausschmiss des XB-Bar-Kollektivs” sich gewaltsam am XB-Kollektiv vergangen haben, verurteilen wir aufs Schärfste. Grundsätzlich und speziell aus den Reihen selbsternannter feministischer, anti- rassistischer sowie anarchistischer Individuen kommend, ist dies unverantwortlich, inkohärent und beschädigend für alle, die sich für diese Ideale einsetzen. Wir glauben an die Wichtigkeit unseres Matinee-Projekts, welches wir zusammen mit Mitgliedern des XB- Kollektivs, in den Räumlichkeiten des XB-Liebig begannen. Nun da die Bar im Erdgeschoss der L34 nach der feindlichen Übernahme nicht weiterbetrieben wird, sind wir entschlossen, einen neuen Raum zu finden in welchem unser Projekt weiterleben kann. Wir glauben, dass wir der Gemeinschaft unseren Beitrag schulden – im Kreativen, den Künstlerinnen und Künstlern, unserem Publikum, unseren Freundinnen und Freunden, dem XB-Kollektiv und der noch bestehenden (und im Existenzkampf befindlichen) unabhängigen DIY-Kultur Berlins.

[#] Brabrabra are on the line up of a fantastic festival in Berlin, called Synesthesie, that this year will have as line up the Spiritualized (yes, omg) and Soft Moon, plus a lot of others great bands including Jealous, a a truly impressive Berlin trio! https://www.8mmmusik.com/synfest

[#] The Matinee - an afternoon show series very diy and hearty- is back alive and kicking! There has been already two shows, in May and June and next show is July 8th, at i.E. down in Ziegrastrasse.
