Personalization Prompt #2 – Martha
And for the reader appreciation day of the event, I’m using the second personalization prompt for the wonderful Martha @going1582! Thank you so much for being a friend 😊 And I hope you’ll enjoy!!
BLACK: what face claim from an anime, comic book, or cartoon do I associate with you?
Tumblr media
Of course, you already know this one, but it really is Alex Benedetto from Gangsta.! She’s gorgeous, has the right colouring, and is just always the first character to pop into my head when I think of Martha!
WHITE: what flame type and box weapon do I think you’d have in the khr!verse?
While I sort of answered this when I did the other personalization prompt, I do think you have dual Mist and Rain Flames. Your Mist Flames are just the tiniest bit stronger, and though you can’t create full blown illusions, you can use the Mist Flames in ways that do help to deceive or trick others, mostly in defensive ways, while your Rain Flames are the more offensive of the two. As far as box weapons go, I think your Rain box animal is a whale and your Mist Flame animal is a turkey. Going again with the symbolism of spirit animals, both of these animals have deep ties towards community and family. The whale is a symbol of wisdom, emotional healing, keeping history, and peaceful strength, while the turkey is a symbol of abundance and generosity.
RED: what aesthetics do I associate with you?
I know I did these up for you years ago now but they all still ring very true to me 😊
BLUE: what are three songs I’d put on a playlist for you?
LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS, the beatles
SWIMMING, james newton howard
DON’T GIVE UP, twice
YELLOW: what fictional world out of all my fandoms would I picture you in?
Going with the obvious answer that everyone has probably guessed will be here. KHR is the fandom we’ve shared for the longest time, the one we’ve talked about most, and it’s the one I see you in the easiest!
GREEN: who would I pair you with out of all my fandoms?
For KHR, it’s Hibari, of course! For K Project, it’s Dewa. For Nanbaka, it’s Trois. For Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun!, it’s Kalego. For Bungou Stray Dogs, it’s Chuuya. For Servamp, it’s Higan. For Saiyuki, it’s Kougaiji. For Eyeshield 21, it’s Akaba. For Ronin Warriors, it’s Cye. For Kekkaishi, it’s Hiba. For GetBackers, it’s Ban. For Black Cat, it’s Lin. For Karneval, it’s Jiki. For Gangsta., it’s Delico. For Bleach, it’s Hitsugaya. For Naruto, it’s Kankuro. For Deadman Wonderland, it’s Yo Takami. For Ouran, it’s Kyoya. For Durarara!!, it’s Walker. For Gintama, it’s Kamui. For Mystic Messenger, it’s Jumin. For Ikemen Revolution, it’s Oliver. For Blush Blush, it’s Volks. For Date Warp, it’s Alben. For Hatoful Boyfriend, it’s Nageki. For The Outsiders, it’s Ponyboy. For Class of the Titans, it’s Archie. For Ultimate Spider-Man, it’s Danny. For Gravity Falls, it’s Ford. For The Mighty Ducks, it’s Fulton. For Jungle Fury, it’s R.J. For Ninja Storm, it’s Dustin. For Mystic Force, it’s Xander.
PURPLE: what gif reminds me of you?
Tumblr media
PINK: if you were an AU, what type of AU would you be?
I do see you as a nice, relaxed, soothing type of AU, something very slice of life oriented without a lot of major drama and angst, so a nice coffeeshop AU or even a high-school AU would be what I would picture you as.
RAINBOW: if i were to write a khr sequel, following Tsuna’s demise, and could only use my reader’s as characters, who would you be?
Easy! It’s the same answer it’s probably always been, where I see you as the next Rain Guardian!

CHARACTER INTRODUCTION
Tumblr media
NAME: Marta
ALIAS: The Painter
PRONOUNS: She/Her
NATURAL ABILITY: Marta was born with the ability to produce, out of thin air, a set of magical paints and paintbrushes, with which she can imbue life into anything she paints for up to twenty minutes.
ADDITIONAL ABILITY: Through the story Marta gains an additional ability, one that allows her to heal the mental and physical injuries of others, at the cost of having to feel all the pain and effects of the injuries themselves.
REGION: Wedergebore
FACTION: Allied with The Hadia, largely works for La Revolucion
FACECLAIM: Alex Benedetto from Gangsta.
BIOGRAPHY
Marta was born in Wedergebore and she does love the region and the people. All her loved ones, all that is important to her is within Wedergebore. Her plans for life were always to stay in her region, to live a happy life with those she loves, and to leave the world a prettier, happier place. However, with The Hadia pushing harder and harder for all out war, Marta finds that she'll have to work just a bit harder to accomplish that and so she begins working first with La Revolucion and then with Hibari and Kusakabe, childhood friends of hers, with Hibari becoming sort of her 'boss'.
Marta's a dreamer, someone who sees beauty and potential in everything. She's a truly kind individual, sweet and encouraging, with eyes you get lost in and a face as expressive as her boss's is neutral. She's incredibly loyal to those she loves and cares about, the sort of friend that keeps everyone happy and together. With her tireless creativity and curiosity, she sees and aims to bring to life a better, more peaceful world and will work incredibly hard to do so, working to explore and uncover all the secrets of The Ever Young, slipping quietly in and out of the various regions with Hibari or Kusakabe by her side.
INSPIRED BY: Marta is inspired by Martha, over at @going1582. Along with Chiwa, Martha really shaped so many of my fandom experiences during my early tumblr days, helped me keep sane and happy, encouraged and supported me. She was such a close fandom friend of mine for KHR and she also helped me establish and create the way I still write Hibari to this day!

🌺 for Alex from Nina!!
@dominusornatum,   prompt,   accepting.
Tumblr media
more often than not the two girls were hanging out nowadays.   alex didn’t mind, anything to save her from the monotony of sitting and waiting for the phone to ring.   she didn’t realize just how much nina did during the day  ——   ferrying back and forth deliveries for theo or prescriptions that needed to be filled or a myriad of other things.   nina didn’t act like it, but she was just a little kid   …   still, alex supposed that you had to grow up fast in ergastulum. grow up fast or don’t grow up at all.
alex was pulled from her thoughts when she felt her ink dark hair shift, and something nestle in behind her ear, secure in thick waves. fingers coming to delicately brush over the petals, head turned to see nina’s grin beaming at her, another delivery clasped tight in her arms with a bunch of flowers surrounding it.   where’d she found such pretty flowers? a smile of her own tugged at alex’s lips, and she picked up the bag she’d set down while waiting for nina.   ❝ where to next? ❞

I don’t know if it’s because the voice sounds similar or because the song is jazzy or what but the version of “love addiction” sung by Meiko Haigo (the last song on the Meikonic album) really really makes me think of Alex

DNI if you are a minor. no exceptions. I don’t care how mature, or how close to 18 you are. please do not interact, as it makes me extremely uncomfortable. please respect that.
Please have your age in your bio, or you will be blocked upon entry.
I do not take requests, so don’t send them in please. they will be ignored and deleted.
I do take thirsts and suggestions, so feel free to send them in.
Don’t send in a flurry of messages to me at one time. It’s very stressful to open my asks box and find 5+ messages from the same person.
I write with a black, chubby, afab reader in mind—mainly because I write to me, for me, and about me and I just like to share it with the world!
DNI if dark content makes you uncomfortable. I don’t need to hear how much you don’t like it, just block and go.
All characters are portrayed to be 18+ in all of my writings.
I don’t write: scat, death, cheating on the reader, sacrilege, underage/pedophilia.
I will write: pretty much everything that’s not listed above, but I do have the right to deny interacting with a message if it’s something I don’t want to or feel uncomfortable writing.
Characters I feel the most comfortable writing: Bakugou Katsuki, Midoriya Izuku, Kirishima Eijirou, Worrick Arcangelo, Nicolas Brown, Alex Benedetto, Toji Fushigurou, Megumi Fushigurou, Gojo Satoru, Nanami Kento, Sukuna, Itadori Yuuji, Eren Jaeger, Levi Ackerman.
Also, feel free to send in other characters that I haven’t listed. These are just my favorite ones that I can produce the most content for.

do you have shounen recs too? other than naruto and fma lol
naruto and fma are like decade long infections that have refused to leave me djdbkdn but yes, i do! i’ll apply the same logic here as i did in the other post where i include some seinen too bc ultimately the distinction is just an age demographic
sket dance (manga) - this is one of my favorite manga of all time! it centers on a group of three friends—bossun, himeko, and switch—who start a student support group at their high school for anyone to come to with their everyday problems. the clientele and their problems are varied in a pretty humorous way, and in the beginning it almost feels like the series is set up to be purely comedic, but as you get further into the series you learn just why the main characters started the club, which is the winning point for me. these characters are so fleshed out and so much of their individual trauma gives insight as to why they’re intent to help and befriend others, especially on bossun’s part. he is probably one of my favorite shounen protagonists period. his character propagates a really wonderful message of how people don’t need to be fixed in order to solve their problems, just listened to and supported, and i adore the series for its exploration of that concept. the mangaka was also an assistant to sorachi on gintama, so i think fans of gintama will rly enjoy it in the sense that both series share similar values, messages, and humor! there’s a few crossovers between the two, iirc. also! i don’t particularly mind the anime and it has a banger soundtrack but just imo the emotional beats hit harder in the manga
silver spoon (anime/manga) - this is the series hiromu arakawa wrote after finishing fma, and i would actually argue that it’s her better work of the two! it centers on a boy named hachiken, who spontaneously decides to enroll at an agricultural high school to get away from his stressful family life in the city, and obviously, it’s a huge reality check for him. he’s dropped into this school where every other student has farming-related ambitions in the long run, while he has no ambitions at all and simply used enrollment as an excuse to get away from his problems. the series is a masterclass in learning about the worth in hard work, camaraderie, and why thinking about your future and what you want to do matters, not just from a practical aspect but also in terms of self fulfillment. as expected of arakawa, it boasts endearing humor, a wonderful array of distinct characters, and a really fleshed out portrayal of farm life, made even more enjoyable and genuine by the fact that she’s writing in her element, as she grew up on a farm herself
tsubasa reservoir chronicle (manga) - this is a cult classic within clamp circles, but outside of that fandom it’s more known as the intimidating clamp series most ppl wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole. and i get that! the fact that it crosses over with some other clamp series makes it pretty confusing to parse through at times. but i also think that’s the series’ greatest strength, bc when you understand the nature of that crossover, the depth of the storytelling is truly brilliant! at its most basic, trc follows a pair of childhood friends, syaoran and sakura, who live in a desert-like “clow country”. sakura walks into some ruins one day and is spontaneously robbed of all of her memories, which syaoran must then journey across multiple dimensions to recapture, as her memories have been scattered in the form of feathers. the pair also have three traveling companions—kurogane, fai, and mokona—and altogether the group visits multiple dimensions that are loosely inspired by clamp’s other series and characters. obv, as the plot progresses, we discover there’s more to the group’s mission than meets the eye, and it ventures into pretty dark, existential territory, as is the norm for clamp. it also may be unpopular of me to say this, but i actually think it’s a great introduction to clamp (it was mine lol), given there’s so many cameos from their previous series and the series sets up such interesting lore. just be warned that you do have to think while reading this series, as the lore is intense! also, do not watch the anime. at all. it’s the worst adaptation ever
ookiku furikabutte (anime/manga) - popularly called oofuri, this series is in my opinion one of the best sports manga published in the last two decades. it follows a boy named mihashi, a baseball pitcher who refuses to give up the mound and essentially alienates himself from his middle school teammates in the process bc they don’t know how to actually utilize his pitches. he enters high school as a total nervous wreck with little to no confidence in himself bc of this experience, until the catcher, abe, recognizes that he’s actually a really unique pitcher unrecognized for his talents by his old teammates. abe and mihashi basically latch onto each other, with abe believing he can mold mihashi into the best pitcher there is, and mihashi believing abe is the one person capable of making him into a good pitcher. it’s a fascinating take on codependency and building up your self esteem, and i would argue that higuchi asa’s sports psychology background lends itself splendidly to the messages oofuri sends about how to build healthy sportsmanship among teenage boys. overall i think it’s a great series to read if you’re looking for catharsis and comfort, as well as baseball lore!
gangsta. (manga) - this series is the most dark and complicated of the works in this list, just as an advisory. there’s prostitution, gang violence, gore, etc etc. but for the presence of all of that, gangsta. is probably one of the most well rounded series i have read in the last few years. it starts with alex benedetto, a prostitute who ends up as the sole survivor of a mass gang murder propagated by two thugs for hire, worick and nic. the two men take her under their wing as a friend and someone who answers their phone, and the three of them form a unique but really loving partnership with each other. the plot eventually extends into a turf war that plagues the town they live in, ergastulum, on account of a drug trade that allows for the breeding of “twilights”, who are essentially drug enhanced superhumans. it’s hard to explain much more without giving away spoilers, but the series has an incredibly diverse cast, in terms of race, disability, and sexuality, and it manages to tackle really dark subject matter without coming off as too edgy or tragedy porn-seque. the artwork is also absolutely gorgeous and the relationships among various characters are portrayed with such amazing nuance, that i can’t even complain when plot points make me sad beyond belief
this is what i have for now but i may add onto it later! do let me know if you enjoy any of these ❤️

Character: Alex Benedetto
From: Gangsta
Representation: Biracial (Black and Chinese), Rape Survivor, PTSD
Their Importance: Mixed race representation where neither half of the character's heritage is white is uncommon, so Alex being both Black and Chinese is nice. Alex has also gone through some very traumatic things by the start of the show, as she’s forced into sex work and made to be addicted to drugs by her pimp. As the show progresses she deals with both the trauma of what she went through as well as the withdrawal from the drugs, and while she does get better, it’s not a straight line to recovery, as she’s shown to have good days and bad days, and even has an episode where she attempts to have sex with one of the other main characters, Warwick, who rather than take advantage of her, calms her down and brings her out of that headspace. Overall her story and trauma are handled very respectfully.
Issues: Alex dresses in very revealing clothing, even after she’s saved from her forced sex work, this can be seen as a black woman being overly sexualized. Her story, while handled very well, can also be highly triggering to some.
Thanks to @chronicbackstabbingdisorder for the write-up!

“I won’t go easy on you.” @ alex benedetto
@hxgure,   prompt,   accepting.
okay, maybe worick had a tiny, little smidgen of a point.   the bout of confidence alex’d had when she propositioned nicolas with the idea was now utterly gone and instead a little twist of anxiety was beginning to form.   she’d wanted this, well   —   wanted to be   …   less of a dead weight.   sure, she was obviously never going to get to the fighting prowess of the other two benriya but alex wanted more to justify her presence in the apartment than just answering the phone.   something consistently whispered in the very back of her mind  —  burden, useless, whore, good for nothing.
Tumblr media
❝ right — ❞   it wasn’t like she’d never fought before.   even under the influence of tb, being on those streets, you fought or you died.   plenty of long faded bruises still ached at memory, and a varied dotting of scars against tan skin were always there to remind alex of just what she’d fought.   raising her hands up a little from where they’d previously lingered at her side, vibrant blue gaze settled on the other and noted the slight, almost not there, quirk at the corner of his mouth.   flustered, and a little miffed, one hand came out to shove at his shoulder.   ❝ don’t start laughing ! ❞   worick was right  —  and those words stuck in her throat for a moment  —  this was a really dumb idea.

S.H.I.T. — What Do You Stand For? (La Vida Es Un Mus)
Tumblr media
What Do You Stand For? by S.H.I.T.
“Spectacle,” the opening song of S.H.I.T.’s first LP, is thrilling, bracing stuff. Distorted picking, top speed snare work, a galloping riff — the song churns through 30 seconds of headlong tumble before Ryan Tong adds his somewhat nasal, reverbed caterwaul. Then things get really noisy. Brittle high-end crackle and blistering guitar textures trade elbows with Tong’s vocals, creating the sonic analog to the congested dancing and shoving you encounter in an inner city DIY space. The intensity doesn’t last long; none of S.H.I.T.’s songs do. The 11 tracks that compose What Do You Stand For? hurtle by in fewer than 17 minutes. But in spite of its brevity, all that speed and punky bile somehow add up to something substantial.
To be sure, S.H.I.T. aren’t interested in innovation. The band’s sound strikes a number of familiar notes: the Germs’ influence is pervasive (S.H.I.T.’s bare-bones website is whatwedoissecrete.org); you can also hear some käng and “Sheer Terror”-era Government Issue. But what S.H.I.T. might lack in originality, the band more than makes up for with spirit and energy. The record effectively cuts back and forth from hardcore burners like “Fixed” and “Cooker” to songs that vary the pace a bit: “Algorithm” includes a breakneck breakdown, and “Losing in the 21st Century” is as close to mid-tempo as the record gets, until the song flares into total chaos in its closing 40 seconds. From start to finish, What Do You Stand For? exudes vitality in nearly palpable waves.
And vitality is the band’s primary mission. They’ve been releasing a steady stream of 7 inches and live tapes since 2012. But equally significant have been their contributions to Toronto’s dynamic punk scene. Tong has managed Faith/Void, a record shop and meeting place for punk culture and politics; guitarist Greg Benedetto founded Toronto’s ongoing annual underground music festival Not Dead Yet; the band collectively ran a performance space, SHIBGB’s. Other Toronto punk bands have emerged (Prom Nite) and flamed out (the terrific and too brief-lived Triage) to relatively greater fanfare during S.H.I.T.’s tenure, and the band has continued to write songs and make tapes and hustle for the good of the scene. What Do You Stand For? indicates that the band isn’t near done generating anxious, angry noise. One hopes they keep rocking, organizing and being generally excellent for the long haul.
Jonathan Shaw
