Had some Worm x Disco Elysium ideas spiraling around in my head past couple days.
1. Taylor replaces the player character in DE. Proceed from there. Have her meet Kim and attempt to solve the hanging with all of the quirks that would come with someone like Taylor being out in those shoes. She can't control bugs, but she would have a really high "Shivers" score. This can be Taylor at any point in the OG canon although I do think post-GM would be the most interesting.
2. Same as above but replace Kim with Lisa, Amy, Victoria, whoever.
3. Now we turn it around. Harrier Du Bois in Brockton Bay. A lot of fun ways to go from here. Could writer Harry being a Brockton Bay detective who triggers and gains the ability to listen to all of his emotions and senses as personified voices in his head that he can also choose to prioritize between at the cost of the other emotions and senses (kind of similar to the wyvern serum in Twig actually). Could also insert Kim into this and just insert them into canon events. Investigate some characters death or another in the narrative or chase the undersiders or whatever. Harry is completely unreadable to Lisa because of how fucked his head is.
4. Evrart in place of Piggot. Crackfic.

KIM KITSURAGI - “You were right, detective.”
The lieutenant speaks in a hushed tone. You strain to hear him over the surrounding hum - the city talking, the murmurs of the past and the nonexistent future.
PERCEPTION (HEARING) - Here, at the centre of the known world…
REACTION SPEED - And now also it’s very edge.
PERCEPTION (HEARING) - …everything is loud.
LOGIC - You remember the two-millimeter hole in the world - the way it swallowed sound and sensation around it - this is different.
EMPATHY - Surrounded by the pale like this, you hear, you feel, everything.
YOU - “Of course I was.”
RHETORIC - Right about what? You realize that you have no idea what the lieutenant is talking about.
YOU - “What was I right about, Kim?” you ask.
INLAND EMPIRE - In the far far distance, somewhere out to the east, you hear gunshots. Screams of the fallen revolutionaries, a bitter wail of failure.
Then, in the south, a child’s laughter, echoing all the way from Jamrock.
REACTION SPEED - It’s your laughter. You must’ve been six… Or eight. You can’t tell.
INLAND EMPIRE - Another familiar sound cuts you off from reminiscing further.
The call of the Kineema, from that fateful morning when the sound of its engine brought you back into the world of the living - with no memory, but with the first inkling of the approaching end.
CONCEPTUALIZATION - That morning, your life began - and ended.
KIM KITSURAGI - Back in the present, the lieutenant snorts.
His lips are wrapped around the butt of a cigarette. This one is nothing like his usually preferred brand - it’s thicker, stronger and it burns unpleasantly in his lungs.
EMPATHY - In the last few weeks, ever since the pale has gotten noticeably closer, he’s been smoking a lot more than one a day.
ESPRIT DE CORPS - This abandonment of his carefully crafted habits is what makes the gravity of the situation truly sink in, more so than the porch collapse stretching on in front of you.
KIM KITSURAGI - “The Gloaming?” He glances over at you. “The end of the world.”
VISUAL CALCULUS - You were wrong, though. About the timing of it…
YOU - “No.”
KIM KITSURAGI - Your curt response makes the lieutenant turn towards you fully. He regards you curiously, but says nothing.
YOU - Noticing the look on his face, you explain further, “It came sooner than I thought.”
KIM KITSURAGI - “Ah,” he exhales. The cigarette smoke is white, much like the odourless nothingness surrounding you. It curls, mixes into the pale until one is indistinguishable from the other. “Yes, you did say it would be…”
REACTION SPEED - He’s trying to recall the exact number.
YOU - “27 years,” you finish for him. “It would’ve been 24, now. If I had been correct.”
KIM KITSURAGI - “Mhm. I thought I’d live to see 70.” A sad smile.
INLAND EMPIRE - He was supposed to. But something has changed, some shift in the ever turning wheel of events, just out of your reach - he was supposed to see 70.
VOLITION - Don’t worry. He will. In another life - another universe.
You will, too, Harry.
YOU - “Perhaps in the next world,” you whisper. The words echo loudly in the surrounding memories.
KIM KITSURAGI - The lieutenant hums in acknowledgement. By now, his cigarette is nearly a stub. He pulls it away from his lips and ponders it for a moment before outstretching his arm towards you in a silent offer.
YOU - Rather than look at the cigarette in his hand, your eyes linger on the lieutenant’s lips.
VOLITION - Stop it already. This isn’t appropriate.
ELECTROCHEMISTRY - Oh, would you loosen up for once? None of that matters anymore. In fact, you could…
COMPOSURE - Pay attention. He’s looking.
KIM KITSURAGI - He is. Noticing your hesitation, the lieutenant meets your gaze and nods towards the cigarette.
YOU - At last, you take it. You take a long drag, until there’s nothing more left.
ELECTROCHEMISTRY - Your body buzzes - not with the nicotine smoke curling in your lungs, but rather with the warmth of his skin against yours as your hands brushed against one another.
INLAND EMPIRE - You will never feel this warm ever again.
KIM KITSURAGI - “Well then, detective…” he pauses.
YOU - “Kim?”
SHIVERS - The pale swallows you both and with you, the city. You hear it, for the last time…
YOU - What does it say?
SHIVERS - SEE YOU TOMORROW, OFFICER. IN ANOTHER WORLD - AGAIN. YOU CAN STILL SAVE ME
ESPRIT DE CORPS - And another voice, overlapping…
KIM KITSURAGI - “See you soon, Harry.”
ESPRIT DE CORPS - You can still save me.

The parahumans power creation system is a good fit for TTRPGs and a horrid fit for video games. It’s dependent on human pattern-matching and metaphor literacy to carry every character concept over the finish line; it would be difficult bordering on impossible, I think, to try and implement a mix-and-match version of the system where you create your parahumans PC from pre-selected trigger components and then play in a sandbox, which is what I’ve seen advanced as a proposal for how a parahumans RPG would handle character creation.
No, parahumans screams out for a roster-based RPG system; some combination of Disco Elysium, This is the Police, Sunless Sea and X-Com, in which you play as a PRT director (or aspirant crime boss, or corporate cape team manager, or terrorist, probably you’d pull from the disposition doc here) who pulls together and manages a small squad of parahumans that you can pull from a potential pool of, probably, 30-40 free-floating, fleshed out pre-written capes who exist throughout the game world, each with their own trigger event, unique moveset, personal foibles, pre-existing relationship to the city, and subplots that you can pursue via some expenditure of resources. You can only plausibly get 10+ at a time, and most capes have an alternate faction they’ll fall in with if you don’t recruit them; to accommodate this, you might take the DE route of having the game take place over a short timeframe in a crisis situation in order to maximize your ability to replay it with different rosters, or you might just make the player suck it up and commit to a long session with their chosen team, but either way I’m picturing all players starting from the same Day-zero world conditions, dominoes falling differently based on their actions. I’m picturing semi-turn-based combat but in a fairly-well-realized physics-based/voxel-based world (in no small part due to the number of powers that have interactions with specific materials). I’m also picturing a sunless-sea/skies-style “designate your own personal win condition” mechanic, where the “main quest” is just one more plot thread bouncing off whatever major turning point acts as the game’s inciting incident. Would this require an idiot amount of pre-writing, game triggers, worldbuilding, and pre-determined character relationships to function correctly? Yes. There’s a reason I cited Disco Elysium in the “some combination” section. But I genuinely think that a Worm game would need basically the same decade of pre-writing that Worm received, in order to get anywhere close to capturing why Worm was good.

After playing Disco Elysium a couple times and seeing the Kim Kitsuragi merch that implied he had his own set of in game skills, I decided to take a crack at making some of my own. It was also pretty experimental, as I’d not used a digital brush like this one before. It was pretty fun!
Brief descriptions of each skill:
Trivia: “Did you know there are a number of different writing systems that have been developed for ASL over the years? Very few of them get a lot of traction however, and as a result there are now a bunch of competing systems that very few people actually use even though-”
Retort: “Your mom, lol.” Might be best to hold your tongue.
Oculus: “Picture it in your minds eye”
Mechanics: “The world is built out of systems”
Masquerade: “Understand other’s emotions as a set of systems, rather than a feeling.“
Meta: “Systems within systems. You’re definitely not overthinking this. Promise”
Leviathan: “Saying the exact same thing as someone else at the exact some time, but constantly is pretty funny. No idea how you’re doing it though.”
The Man: “DO. NOT. BREAK. THE. LAW.”

Bones: My bones don’t like me. (its more my ligaments, but those don’t look as interesting) and they’re constantly causing me problems.
Red String: The feeling in getting tangled in obligations and wants between you family and friends.
The Millipede: The claustrophobic feeling of being stuck in a crowd and not being able to speak and having all those eyes on you.
Worms: The physical churning sensation of strong emotions
Like Water: “Move with grace, even if its entirely accidentally.”
Alarm: "What was that noise?”
X: The technology becoming an extension of you, more than just a tool.
Vibe Check: “You have failed the vibe check.”
Hand Eye Coordination: “Trust me, you can totally do that trick”

First, thank you to everyone for your submissions! It's been great seeing them all come in and reading all the propaganda. There's characters from a pretty wide range of things, so it'll be a fun challenge to get them all matched up and I'm really looking forward to starting this tournament.
Since we're only a few days away from the final submission deadline, here's the list of the characters submitted so far, so that if anyone has a character they want to submit who isn't on the list yet, they can still get them in!
I'll also be noting which characters are currently going to be going through preliminary polls to determine if they're eligible for the main tournament. There aren't very many characters on this list, and everyone who is on it is either there because someone who submitted them indicated that they weren't sure if the character was eligible or not, or because I was personally familiar with the character and felt they were in that gray zone of eligibility for this particular tournament. Welcome to the Overworked Blorbo Battle Preliminary Round!
Many characters were submitted for this tournament so, in order to allow as many different blorbos into the bracket as I can, I’ve had to limit them to one per series. For most, i just included the most highly submitted character but there were a number of series with characters who had the same (or very similar) number of submissions. Therefore, I’ve created a preliminary round for you to vote on which character from each series gets to enter the bracket.
There will be 37 polls lasting 1 week each.
The polls will be separated into 3 waves. Each wave will be posted 24 hours after the previous.
The first wave will begin on Tuesday the 27th of June at 3PM BST
I've tried my best to only include official images for all of the characters on the polls but I'm not familiar with every series listed so, when the polls go up, if you notice I've used a fanart or cosplay image without permission or credit please let me know and I'll add credit and correct it for any future appearances of that character.
I apologise if I’ve accidentally spelled something wrong or used a wrong name for something, I’m not familiar with every series listed.
