one of my top-tier genres of Tobecky fics are the ones where Tobey is just outright called a loser by 80% of the cast. Like repeatedly. This is, in part, because he is (I say this with love, as someone who is also a bit of a loser) but it's also because it makes the fact that he and Becky end up together supremely funny.

Think about it.

Becky's a physically fit, top-of-her-class, friendly, extroverted person, who is always willing to help people with their homework. She's the sort of person you want to ask to help manage your start-up business because she's incredible at organization: she has a color-coded binder for unrestrained summer fun she's outstanding at managing.

and then Tobey is incredibly smart but utterly useless in most situations. Social interaction? Babygirl can't even have a single conversation without insulting someone on purpose. Physical exercise? He's never even seen the sun before. He's a social pariah by choice (mostly). He hates everyone. He can't lift a 10lbs weight without struggling. He's perhaps the first person in history to have negative muscle mass.

and BECKY BOTSFORD is the one who picks him.

From an in-universe perspective, they could not possibly be more different. For crying out loud, they were school rivals for the longest time because he couldn't stand that she was as smart as him. In-universe it's like the math nerd who won't even speak to you if you haven't played World of Warcraft (and constantly brags about getting admitted into college early) got together with the prodigy student with 17 black belts and an honorary English degree.

AND, AND Who is Becky's best friend???? Violet. The canonical most popular girl in school.

Please.

Tobey's lucky he had a redemption arc/ego check because my boy never had a chance without it. Utter dweeb <3

I had a thought about amazing cheese. An AU where they couldn't stand each other at first. Make it dadbrains too.

Slowburn, but seeing Amazo Guy protect his daughter and starts a little spark. By the time Steven became Two-Brains they were together but the incident caused Two-Brains to have a vendetta against Amazo. Why? Amazo took away Becky in his eyes when he really didn't want Becky to be exposed to a villain. Legally adopted Becky by then. Her legal guardian since Twobrains would be dangerous and such.

I wouldn't think that Amazo Guy would completely take Becky away from Two Brains. Despite being a villain now, Becky still loves her dad and misses him when he goes to jail a lot. I would think that Amazo will let Becky have bonding time with Two Brains but under close supervision because he is a villain now. I see Dr. Two Brains try his best to not put Becky in any danger but also having to deal with Squeaky's urges. But yeah, there is a slow animosity between those two because even thought they still love each other deep down, they both argue constantly on what they believe is best for Becky. Neither of them wants to lose their alien child. They both want what's best for her but have a hard time dealing with their feeelings for each other now. But honestly great au idea anon. I love the concept of the slowburn angst relationship between Amazo and Steven/Two Brains. Great au idea.

A light note to this angst: During the times when Amazo Guy ends up stopping Dr. Two Brains from committing a crime, half the time it turns up into a custody battle over Becky’s living arrangements.

Hello Wordgirl fandom! Welcome to Wordgirl: Exploration!

What's Wordgirl: Exploration?

Wordgirl: Exploration is a fan reboot inspired by Wordgirl: Rewired. It takes place when Becky/Wordgirl is 12, but also follows a loose continuity. For the most part, anything that happened in the show canonically happened in our project, but there are a few changes or straight up retcons we've made regarding episodes, characterization choices, and even what the characters look like! As for the goal of this reboot; we just wanted to make out own continuation of the show while also exploring potential character arcs and plot ideas. Hence the name ;).

How will Wordgirl: Exploration be shared?

"Episodes" will be written and posted on AO3, with art interspersed throughout. We'll also be sharing fun facts and additional art on this blog.

Who's behind Wordgirl: Exploration?

Currently, the team consists of three individuals: Raven, Ale, and Robin.

Raven (they/xe) handles most of the writing and is the one spearheading the project. They've been a fan of the show since middle school and recently got sucked back in. Any posts or asks answered by them will be tagged with #Raven Rambles.

Ale (baa/it/he) does most of the art and writing editor. He recently got into the show thanks to Raven. Any posts or asks answered by him will be tagged with #Ale Announces and #Ale Art.

Robin (she/her) is the person Ale and Raven bounce ideas off of and the one who suggests how to handle characterization. She's our support team member :). Robin is Raven's younger sister and therefore has been dragged into the fandom by them since day 1. Any posts or asks answered by her will be tagged with #Robin Reports.

1) What artists (musical or visual) have made a big impact on your aesthetic & continue to inspire you?

Disney songs: mainly from Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty & the Beast

Dead Mans Bones: Ryan Reynolds, themes of horror, and a choir of school-children

Mitski and Lana del Rey: the super-duo

Vocaloid: this left an impact on middle-school me

2) Who is an artist (musical or visual) who is a newer discovery to you that you're obsessed with right now?

Bear Ghost: they just have this chaotic, villainous vibe that I really love ("necromancin' dancin'," "haunt, the cartoon heart," and "starkiller")

Will Wood: same as the above ("2econd 2ight 2eer" and "vampire culture")

3) What films or TV shows have made a big impact on your aesthetic & continue to inspire you?

I'd say that the majority of these come from my childhood: Charlie and Lola (aes.), Sleeping Beauty (aes.), The Little Mermaid (aes./inspire), Wordgirl (inspire), My Little Pony (aes./inspire), Strawberry Shortcake (aes.), old Barbie films (aes./inspire)

4) What is a film or TV show that is a newer discovery to you, that you're obsessed with right now?

Barbie (2023), Gilmore Girls, Love is Blind: Japan, Serial Experiments Lain

5) What is a fashion movement, era, or item, that has made a big impact on your personal aesthetic?

cottagecore fashion: light dresses and earthy colors

e-girl (I know): got me into doing more makeup (blush on nose, eyeliner, and false lashes), which was really fun

items: leg warmers, mary jane platforms/heels, cross-knit sweater, jumbo claws, plaid skirts, henley tops, tiered skirts (aka, the "cottagecore skirts"), flared jeans, heart necklaces

6) What is a fashion movement, era, or item, that you're currently obsessed with?

kogal: the academic clothing mixed with girly accessories is such a VIBE

7) What is a book, poem, essay, etc. that made a big impact on you?

The Secret History: my english teacher recommended it in class, and it caught my attention. I bought it the next summer and read it. the writing style is so vivid, and the story was really interesting! it came one of my favorite books and started my love for unreliable narrators.

My Dark Vanessa: the best approach to "Lolita, but from Dolores' perspective" I've ever read. it's such an accurate depiction of grooming, the cycle of abuse, and the lasting effects of manipulation on victims. it's terrifying, but real.

9) What is a "classic" coquette trend that you'll never let go of?

red gingham: like, just look at it.
