I am incapable of not combining my interests so may I present a list of penacony characters as TMA entities (2.2 spoilers ahead)

Sunday - The Eye. Can literally force people to tell the truth? Has birds watching everything? That's just The Archivist right there

Sparkle - The Stranger. She has notthem! Vibes what can I say

Aventurine - The Lonely. :)

Black Swan - The Spiral. She literally exists only in people's minds and memories that's spiral behaviour

Gallagher - I really don't want to say the same entity twice but... how can I say anything BUT the stranger... he's even more notthem! coded than sparkle...

Boothill - The Hunt. Easy answer because it's the same name as his path LMAO. I did try and think of smth else based on the whole "mostly a machine" thing but iirc robots tend to be Eye aligned and he's not smart enough for that

Robin - ummmm this one's hard she's too nice to be associated with The Horrors. The vast??? She's known across the universe and that's Big

Firefly - the corruption makes the most sense to me bc shes chronically ill. Could also say the desolation tho

Major Spoilers to Honkai: Star Rail Main Story of version 2.2 (about basically everything) under the cut

First of all GENSHIN COULD NEVER AND IT NEVER DID! None of the Genshin Archon Quests could ever compare to this.. Masterpiece!

Hoyoverse outdone themseves completely! This whole update was truly perfect!

(Because I saw the leaks) I was like, so Harmony MC wasn't needed in the Sunday fight? But weren't they mandatory? Why was it so easy?

Until the plot went farther and we had a real fight with Sunday! And my jaw dropped. I'm a big fan of this fight! But I expected it to be harder- I literally build my Ruan Mei with some random pieces in one day for it-

This was the most beautiful and emotional moment in this entire version! Also MC's response to 'Why does life chose to slumber'? BHJDwfabshkjnlaksvdjfbkhjsnlBKHAFSDBKJEFL

That moment and the whole quest made me really love this sibling duo! It was so sweet how Sunday was always concerned for Robin and was caring about her more than for himself. Also, Robin got shot at the neck-

I'll admit the moment when Dan Heng and Jing Yuan appeared in Ena's dream was so funny and random, but the entreance was indeed surprising and gorgeous! Honestly I couldn't stop smiling at Jing Yuan🥹

Mikhail's indentity was WTF honestly, the fates of the 3 Nameless were sad, mostly Tiernan. And Acheron's real name!

Sunday looked so good and sexy during his boss fight~🤣

I'm happy we got lots of Sunday this version and that Gallagher wasn't really as bad as I thought he would be!

Sunday in the confessional?!?!!?!? I'm dead

But I have so many questions at the end of it all, such as, what exactly happened to Firefly? And will Boothill and Black Swan still travel with us (The Astral Express) just like in the dream? Would everyone really get along in the negotations in the end?

And.. What will happen in the next update? Is story in Penacony really finished?

Regardless if it happened in a dream or not, they thought it was reality so it's still prob gonna be our next stop-

LET'S TALK HSR PENACONY 2.1 (or rather, have my impressions and thoughts on the main quest and some other stuff)

First of all, I went out of it with so many thoughts and emotions. This is not gonna be spoiler free (duh).

ACHERON IS SO FUN TO PLAY. Like, really really fun. Finally Simulated Universe is not an annoying pain anymore, and much quicker too. Thanks to a good friend of mine her relics aren't too bad either. She's already so fun to play with Black Swan, can't wait for a Kafka rerun now 💀

Aa for the story now: I FUCKING KNEW MIKHAIL WAS THE WATCHMAKER. I KNEW IT. Now to wait for them to confirm that Misha is connected to him, either as a ghost of his past self or a child or some sort. It's the only way.

It's also really refreshing to see that HSR is giving 4star characters significant roles in the story. First it was Tingyun, now it's Gallagher (and maybe Misha? I'll die on this hill).

Loved the pacing. Story was quite long and lots of gameplay but didn't feel overwhelming at all, probably because we didn't just stick to the MC the whole time. The characters split up and we didn't just follow the express crew but also Aventurine, I really loved that. It felt so dynamic and immersive.

WELT AND ACHERON INTERACTION. BRO. The way I gasped the whole time. We still don't have a canon confirmation of how Raiden Mei and Acheron or just generally HI3rd and HSR are connected but it's sp clear that Acheron is by far the closest connection yet. So sp excited to find out more about this. Raiden Mei, I'll love you in every universe.

Aventurine and Ratio are also very interesting to me. What does Ratio gain by involving himself in all of this? What does he get out of it? Anyway, their little journey through the mansion was nice. GIGANTIC RATIO. The kinda stuff my dreams are made of tbh.

Generally the whole Aventurine story got me right from the beginning. He's generally one of the most interesting characters to me (although this game has plenty of them). I gotta admit of course I was suspicious of him (as one should be of all Penacony characters) but I liked him nevertheless. This patch supported my feelings, my GOD HE xkdjjdjdjd. The way I cried. Since I played the story so late ofc I saw some spoilers/screenshots of his backstory but I never expected it to hit me this hard. Just wow. His ending, too. It's so bitter. Kinda hope we get to see him again, since he'a mot really dead, right? Just in some limbo.

His boss fight was really something. Not a lot of different patterns, but I still had to try a bunch of different teams, since you're kinda fucked even with just a single single target character in your party. Had to unbench Clara, and I gotta say, she came through for me. I might not have used the most meta team, but it worked soooo...

And just as I was glad I had managed the fight they hit you with that big cut scene, woah. AND THEN WITH THE FIREFLY SCENE? AND SUNDAY????

First of all, apparently it was common knowledge among the community since last patch that Sam was Firefly. Yeah, I gwt it bc of the leaks and stuff. But I'm just so confused as to HOW. Like HOW and WHY and just generally HUH. I can't wait for them to explain this connection (if you're reading this and you wanna spoil me with non-confirmed stuff then leave it, please, I might as well wait another 3 weeks).

And then Gallagher and Sunday... Just as I was admiring Sunday's beauty because he might legit just be one of the most gorgeous male character designs... THEY KILL HIM. When I tell ypu I was SHOOK. Mouth agape and all. Didn't know what to do. What a cliffhanger.

Now I don't have a real theory as to what I think will happen. If I remember correctly they said the main story will stretch until 2.3, right? I really wonder what else will happen, the story already seemed so huge this patch and I really wonder how it'll conclude. There's still so many questions and stories. Might add on to this post later when I have more thoughts.

Also Aventurine's banner just dropped but as of writing this I haven't pulled yet. Might add a little post later about it.

- Peppy is Asta’s Gallagher OR Peppy is a direct descendent of Gallagher who was Mikhail’s Peppy

- Aventurine’s boss form shows up and reveals that underneath the mask - it’s Firefly!!!

- Boothill will teach Robin to sing again and Robin will teach Boothill to curse like a sailor 🥲

- SAM and Blade wrestling match!!!!!!!

- Sparkle reveals herself to be an emanator of Geo

- Sampo inherits Aventurine’s luck and discoveries the ennui of all his schemes working out exactly as planned

- Clockie merged with the Astral Express in a Totoro-Esque manner to produce a Totoro-Esque transportation companion

- Welt is bamboozled by the gravity wall puzzles, he is left behind

- Sunday awakens to discover himself a miniature denizen of his own model city - he looks up to see a huge other self gazing back

- Aventurine’s boss form shows up and reveals that underneath the mask - it’s Misha!!!!

- Black Swan will end the patch by witnessing a horror incomprehensible (Jade) and will begin crying and shaking - Furina singing causes her brother to repent

- Aventurine will cockblock Acheron and Black Swan from kissing by holding up a straight pride flag

- Dan Heng is gonna one shot Sunday and then make out with Boothill on his grave

- Gallagher will receive a boss form (even less clean shaven)

- Firefly reveals SAM’s evolved form - The Lightning Lord (that’s why Jing Yuan’s here)

- Upon meeting Firefly, March 7th obtains a new form (also a robot)

- Himeko ceases to be a functioning alcoholic

- Welt finally reveals the shotgun (in his cane) and shoots Sunday

- Robin is Siobhan - Everyone is saved as Dr Ratio cracks the dream formula and faces off against Silver Wolf to hack (calculate) reality - Woolsey gets a shirtless alt - Trailblazer acquires a new form - the path of Harmony, in which their weapon is a giant tuning fork (like N-Tropy from crash bandicoot) - Charlie Chaplin esque car chase scene !!!

after finishing 2.1 I have so many thoughts… spoilers under the cut and my disorganized thoughts

first, I like aventurine so much more than I originally anticipated. that poor man needs a hug. I really like the parallels between sunday and aventurine though. they’re such interesting people. I want to study them under a microscope

firefly as sam was something I was not expecting.

gallagher being the killer?? the way he talked about mikhail was interesting because I was like… how does he know this? I want to know MORE. sunday, you genius. it’s also very interesting because gallagher is an abundance character, so the juxtaposition of him being the killer and following the path of abundance is really interesting

also sunday??? he’s dead???????

that scene with acheron drawing her sword… she’s so hot. I love her

my jaw dropped during the cutscene before and after the aventurine fight. even though it took me four tries to beat him, I really liked the gimmick. I was like of COURSE he’s gambling in the middle of battle

anyway, those are my disorganized thoughts about this. I am so excited for more

Okay so here's what I got from 2.2

Character Motivations:

Acheron: Emanator of Nihility. She's there to give fulfill a promise made to a Galaxy ranger hero.

Sunday: Deviated from the Harmony when faced with the weakness of mankind. Sought to create a new paradise within a dream, created with the power of the Stellaron and the path of the Order.

Mikhail: the Watchmaker, ex-mechanic of the Astral Express.

Firefly: the first one who actually awoke. And actually dead(?). Or at least "dead" two times out of three.

Tiernan and Razalina: former Nameless. Tiernan is the galaxy ranger who met Acheron when he was old. Tiernan, Razalina and Mikhail fought for Penacony's independence from the IPC.

Penacony:

Penacony: ex prison of the IPC, now a grand hotel. It passed hands several times. Going from the IPC to the Nameless, to the Harmony, to the Order now. There was a war to take it back from the IPC. It is during that war that the three nameless Mikhail, Tiernan and Razalina decided to stay.

Dream-Penacony: We spend most time in Golden hour, extravagant city of all luxuries. The cost of the Dreamscape's existence is the slow decay of the dreamers' minds. Dreamflux Reef is also a zone of the Dreamscape, that the Family tries to hide from the public (?). Memoria is escaping from it, accelerating the Dream's collapse.

True Penacony (?): Land of Exiles. Water.

What happens:

We trailblazers are actually in the dream created by The Order/Sunday from the moment we make the jump with the Astral Express, just like everyone who was called to Penacony. This leads to the first "smooth-sailing" ending where we win against Sunday who's using the Choir (previously controlled by the Harmony)— this is basically just him showing us what we want to see.

We wake up from that thanks to Black Swan who points out a flaw in the dream (Misha). We gather with Robin, Boothill, Acheron etc... And beat him a second time. Still not awake. Bruh

What remains:

If I understand correctly, it's all the people in the dream who need to want to wake up for the Order's dream to actually collapse. My guess is that Aventurine will report from the land beyond the dream (the true Penacony/land of Exiles,that Firefly has seen as well (?) ), Boothill will bring enough dissonant minds, Robin will manage to unite everyone, and Acheron will destroy the dream. Maybe the Watchmaker's clock which is actually a compass will help.

OH MY GODDD THE NEW TRAILBLAZE MISSION IT’S SO GOOD BUT ALSO NONE OF MY THOUGHTS ARE COHERENT AAAAA

Major spoilers for 2.1 ahead!!!!

So first off to the people that voted for Aventurine and Sunday in this poll how does it feel to be right?

ANYWAY THAT WHOLE ENDING WAS FUCKING INSANEEEE, Aventurine walking INTO the Nihility????? And he might not ever come back???? Acheron showing off the true extent of her emanator powers?????? Gallagher being the twist villain and also somehow in control of Something Unto Death???? What the fuck?!

My brain is a mess right now I’m just rotating all of the story in my brain and a hundred miles a minute. The next stuff is just going to be me word vomiting my reaction to stuff in a vaguely chronological order.

First off I LOVEEE how Aventurine-focused the Trailblaze mission was. I was kind of assuming it would be a 50/50 split between focusing on Acheron and focusing on Aventurine but it seems like they’re saving Acheron’s backstory for 2.2 or 2.3.

The little appearance of Boothill??? And how he immediately threatens violence?????? Just a silly guy I can’t wait for him in 2.2 I wanna see them fight. Also I wonder if Constance is making empty promises because it’s possible.

Back to Aventurine, DAMNNN I knew his backstory would be tragic but it’s even more gut wrenching than I expected. The reference in his achievements too??? ‘What do you want Sibyl?’ ‘I want to die.’ THE PROGRESSION FROM AVENTURINE STICKING WITH THIS UNTIL THE END WHERE EVEN THOUGH HE COULD POSSIBLY DIE FOR REAL YET HE DECIDES FO CONTINUE FORWARD BECAUSE EVEN IF WE’RE BORN TO DIE THERE’S A POINT IN LIVING LIFE AND PREPARING FOR THAT INEVITABILITY???? OH MY GOD.

Sunday’s also a scary dude. Maybe being an emanator does that to people but when he did that Harmony mindfuckery on Aventurine I was almost certain that he was going to die because of that. I was also SO pissed at Ratio for selling Aventurine out only to learn they were actually double crossing SUNDAY was insane. I’m glad he finally got to be angry about Robin’s death towards the end though, most of the downtime between 2.0 and 2.1 has been me wondering ‘man his sister just died why doesn’t he feel more distressed.’

Ngl I’m probably gonna dedicate a whole post to Aventurine in this update because 90% of the time I was playing the quest I was either thirsting over him, internally sobbing for him, thinking he was gonna die, or waiting to get back to his POV.

Gallagher is one hell of an enigma because Sunday implies that he’s made up of different ‘aspects’ of each Family member who’s died over however long the dreamscape deaths have been happening, yet he has a past with Siobhan and apparently knew Mikhail??? Like what the fuck????? How long has this been going on????

(Edit: so the use of ‘enigma’ was NOT a pun, when I played the trailblaze quest someone goofed up and forgot to add the line where Sunday calls Gallagher a follower of The Enigmata. Yeah that’s a pretty big lore drop to forget to add.)

I do wish it was foreshadowed slightly better though because the most we get is him being very vaguely sad about his past and also like two people going ‘who the hell is Gallagher.’

One thing I didn’t expect to happen was for a ‘Sam is Firefly’ reveal. Like I had seen the leaks before (not out of my own will sadly) and kind of expected for it to be a 2.2 reveal. Either way yayyyy Firefly is alive!!!

I’m sad that we didn’t really have an Acheron and Welt team up, or at least that we didn’t see more of it. It was kind of hyped up to be a whole B-plot but turned out to only be a few scenes. I’m not complaining because we get a little teeny bit of Welt characterisation but I’m still sad.

I like how Sparkle kind of just shows up to either be a nuisance or a conveniently timed piece to move the plot forward. It’s very fitting with being a Masked Fool.

There’s a lot more I want to scream about but it’s all Aventurine related and I’m gonna save it for its own dedicated post.

2.1 is so fucking good 2.2 and 2.3 better stick the landing.

I've just finished the main story for v2.1 now and I have. SO many thoughts running through my head for now but unorganized guttural reactions I'm feeling right now:

I honestly really enjoy how Aventurine's story was handled. He's a sleeze and I still don't like him but they put him into a situation where you can't help but feel sympathetic for him and it adds a lot of rich flavor to his character.

Honestly wish Acheron had more of a presence, her segments felt like they started and ended really quickly. Honestly maybe the Trailblazer could've had longer segments too because for as good as the Aventurine stuff is it really feels like it outweighs the other two main plots (time-wise and with the depth of characterization) going on by a lot.

I'm still not normal about Siobhan and I doubt I'm going to be for the weeks to come until v2.2.

I still hope he can come around again but if this is Duke Inferno's last hurrah than I think I can settle with it. His scene with Acheron is extremely good and the vocal cameo from Constance raises a lot of questions that make me hopeful we'll see more from the Ever-Flame Mansion in the future.

I cannot believe that line from Sparkle about the mutes was plot-critical.

Aventurine getting to talk to various Penacony NPCs for his questline was really cute.

I've figured for weeks that Clockie and friends were distant echoes of figures from Penacony's past and I'm SO happy I was right about that, and it's nice to start getting some answers on Mikhail and the Watchmaker.

Surprised we STILL haven't gotten any real information about the Penacony Nameless despite it being reiterated again that the Trailblaze has something to do with the events going on.

They only had bit roles this chapter but I'm glad Black Swan and Sparkle got to still play a part here.

I'm dreading what "harvesting" means for v2.2.

Firefly's scene is very brief but is going to let me add some extremely interesting lines to my ship chart.

What do you mean HE was the murderer. WHAT.

I'm realizing now that Misha and Clockie didn't show up AT ALL in this update but I suppose they'll get their closure in v2.2.

The reveal about the impossible in dreams is bittersweet for me because I absolutely called "death" weeks ago but now I'm going to have to grapple with what "dormancy" really means.

(thoughts on penacony 2.0 trailblaze mission!)

PENACONY!!! 😍

just a warning, this is gonna be mostly aimless rambling about the penacony map and story. this includes spoilers!

i'm blown away on the production quality of penacony, both in the real world and the dream world. the music, special effects, skyline, whimsy... they put so much into the penacony experience and i love it

golden hour is massive and even though i took a detour countless of times from firefly's tour (I'M SO SORRY FIREFLY) there are still places i haven't fully explored! it's a pure delight ♪(´▽｀) i really enjoyed how they introduced penacony gameplay mechanics so naturally in the story

penacony puzzles in general are so unique and a huge step up from past regions! my favorite one is the clockie puzzle. i actually find them hard but they reminds me of puzzle games i used to play and i like that challenge

penacony food looked so delicious... 🌈🍦🍨🍩🍟🍰 sorry firefly i picked the most expensive item hoping we could share it

i was very pleased with the whole "touring around with a cute girl eating french fries dipped in ice cream" vibes we got with firefly! it's very cute... especially while playing as stelle (❁´◡`❁)

firefly's story is very touching... "a dream you don't want to wake up from" seems to be a big theme that's being set up for penacony. i believe acheron at the very beginning also questioned us about our willingness to stay in a dream and risk things for ones we care about, and firefly's love and reason for staying in penacony bring this theme back

this line thoroughly shattered me. please protect firefly...

other characters who stood out to me:

acheron. she's less of a scary badass than i expected, and she's actually really cute?! (gap moe?!) but perhaps my initial impression of her upon seeing her splash art ("spines and bloodied clothing... she looks like bad news!") might be true after all... 😳

sparkle. she is so catty and snarky! i didn't expect so much venom to come out of her mouth. i like more characters like this who deliberately antagonize others

misha. I HAVE A BIG THEORY about him ┌( ´_ゝ` )┐

i think misha is related to mikhail. this is entirely due to the voice during the trippy dream-in-a-dream sequence sounding just like misha's in the CN voiceover, so i could be totally wrong. but misha is quite special as someone who can see clockie and is the one who guided the trailblazer to golden hour

"mikhail," whoever he is, is too prominent in the trailblaze mission to be something unrelated to the mystery of the watchmaker. so my theory is also that mikhail and/or misha is involved with the origin of the watchmaker...

i have more thoughts about the latter half of the story but i'll add to this post when it comes to me later, it's late! thanks for reading!

penacony story thoughts because that quest has me in a GRIP

I am loving the vibes and setup for penacony. It seems like bunch of different factions vying for control and no one seems to know what's really happening. It's quite literally becoming a murder mystery and I'm sure we'll become a suspect against Sunday

Firefly my beloved Firefly. The totally-not-a-date with her was adorable and I need to see her happy and healthy right now 😭. I knew she was gonna die but that was more brutal than I expected

And Something Unto Death is lowkey terrifying. The section right before it showed up was really cool. It became even more scary when it got Luocha in the second phase

Misha is my son and horribly suspect. Unless I'm totally off base his voice was the once in the weird memory zone and ig he was searching for someone named Mikhail? Who might of gotten got by the Death monster? Also Misha on the Express is adorable

Between Aventurine and Sparkle I'm not sure who I'd want to punch more (lovingly. they're both extremely entertaining)

Sam was fantastic and I loved his fight, although I expected him to hit harder, he was kinda just tanky with a huge HP pool. I'm sure fighting him in Simulated Universe or MoC (lol I'll never get that far) would be harder. (and I'm sad we didn't get to see much of the fight between him and Acheron)

Anyway I need to repeat the sam boss theme and the vocal track a few more hundred times

I'm still alive omg!

Lots of irl things happening atm, BUT I managed to play through Penacony 2.2 (stretched over 3 days, no less)

Woah. Just ... woah. So much happening, so many characters interacting, so much lore, IT WAS GOING ON FOREVER but I loved it nonetheless. Of course they had to make the finale of Penacony long and epic.

FIRST OF ALL I KNEW IT! I TOLD Y'ALL!!! Literally in my post about 2.1 I talked about how Misha definitely has some close connection to Mikhail/the Watchmaker. I suspected him to be a child of his or something but the actual thing was close enough, I guess. My sweet boy. I love him. Mikhail being a Nameless was so cool. I'm really glad we're finally getting more lore and info about Akivili and previous Nameless, but I feel this was only the beginning.

I'm still madly in love with Sunday and Acheron. Robin is such a cutie too. I'm not gonna pull for her because I need my savings for Mr. Boothill and then Jade but I'll try and pull for her on a rerun. Sway to My Beat in Cosmos is such a banger. Caught myself constantly singing "riiise into my wooorld" (ofc much worse than the one and only lol)

On the topic of Boothill... my god. Love him. The way they can't make him swear so they just make him say??? Whatever??? Whose idea was that 💀 mother loving instead of mother fucking?? What the fork?? Wubbaboo?? I would die for this man. He looks so hot too. Again I have to say that HSR never misses with male character design. THEY'RE ALL SO PRETTY.

On the topic of pretty men... SUNDAY. My little radicalized bird man. I cackled when Sparkle called him chicken boy. She's just a hater, love her for that. Serious question... is he straight up dead now? I have only played the main quest so far so in case it'a mentioned somewhere in game don't spoil me but if it's not... tell me will I get to see him as a playable character... pls...

The whole thing with Ena the Order was so interesting to see. The fact that they made Order so similar to Harmony... AEON LORE. Love it. Resurrecting an Aeon is possible, you say? Kind of? The way they make Sunday'a motives understandable... he's just a boy

So I had the feeling that facing the boss Dominicus was a bit too easy the first time around. Wdym he has only one phase. I should have known there was more to it. Nevertheless loved to see IL and Jing Yuan cameo. They slayed (literally)

But then the eerie feeling I got when Black Swan talked to us on the Express... the way she makes us question everything that happened... GENIUS. I did kind of get flashbacks to Sumeru act II. The line between dream and reality, who is dreaming, what happens outside of the dream, the repetition of events... not critiquing or hating, but the concepts were just similar to me and I liked it :) Penacony just put a different twist to it.

The final fight was still very cool. The several toughness bars to break is really interesting, and the fact that you get a shield value the more bars you break. Also the Astral Ecpress literally crashing into Sunday??? I barely realized what I had just watched ghe first time around. Idk why, but the concept is hilarious to me. And the question remains... is Sunday dead now??? What about Robin?? Are they both dead??

Aventurine isn't dead either?? What about the present that Sparkle gave out to several people? What was it and what did it do? Is there smth I don't remember about that rn? Did I miss it? Also if Robin didn't actually die, how come we saw her body? If she just got transported to Dreamflux Reef, then there wouldn't have been a body, right? ALSO is Firefly dead too? She didn't make an appearance throughout the second part after we see her leave and she talked abput the way that the script said she would die 3 times in Penacony... I'm so eternally confused. It's part of the reason I think there's still gonna be more in the next patch... They're not gonna give us playable Firefly without at least a Story Quest for her, right? And Jade, too? She had one appearance in a throwback during the story, the Trailblazer hasn't interacted with her in person yet so the IPC probably hasn't finished their business with Penacony yet?

And since I mentioned Trailblazer... HARMONY MC??? LOOKS SO GOOD? LOVE THE MOVES?? THE HAT? The Significance of it had me 😭😭 my MC obsession ks back y'all. He looks so good. Caelus ily. The silly little dance with Clockie 😭 Can't wait to build him, I heard Harmony MC is really good.

I also briefly have to mention my girl Acheron. So they've literally just casually confirmed that she's Raiden Mai? I actually don't know what Bosenmori means or it's significance BUT RAIDEN MEI. And her whole flashback with Tiernan... I had my suspicions about his identity but the reveal was interesting, anyway. I've got the feeling this is not the last we've seen of Acheron. I never played HI3rd far enough to fully understand Raiden Mei's story, but I'm really intrigued with the whole thing. How come her and Welt exist in noth universes, how did they end up in HSR and what's their motive?

One thing I'm also still hung up on is the Annihilation Gang... no more mention of them? We don't get any real eyplanation as to why Acheron killed Duke Inferno? No little animation of the scene? I'm guessing it's gonna play a role later? The reason they talked about it is probably to tell us that Acheron was dangerous but like... idk what to think of it. No question the other members of the Gang are gonna appear later and maybe then we'll get more background? But if they don't play a large role in Penacony, why introduce them to the players prior to it in such a grand way?

Anyway, I judt have lots of questions still but no doubt the game is gonna answer them when the time is right... I had a really good time playing the quest, went through a whole lot of emotions during it, fell in love with even mlre characters... the new maps are GIGANTIC and look so cool and let me just say rhe music was so so epic too. Can't wait for the OST for this to get released.

I also wanna mention here (outside of discusaions about the story) is that having a fully leveled Acheron with pretty decent relics paired with a tank Aventurine feels like playing the game on easy mode. Nothing can penetrate a fully def stacked Aventurine, and Acheron's damage is straight up insane. Gonna take a while before I get tired of using them. They helped me clear basically all Stage V of every SU World I hadn't done yet... legends.

Now we wait for Boothill... The grip that Hunt characters have on me is unbelievable. Meta wise I know I should invest in Harmony characters... Ruan Mei or Robin but... HAVE YOU SEEN BOOTHILL? HAVE YOU???

Alright, that's it for now. Really excited to dive into exploration and events and quests of the new maps. Might post a little about it.. or maybe not. I still have to tell you about my thoughts on the Arlecchino quest and Remuria exploration, I began a post about that and never got around to finishing it.

Honkai Star Rail 2.1 Liveblog

I'm having too much fun with these. They're a great, low-cost substitute to running streams on Twitch.

Before we begin...

A Quick Recap of HSR 2.0:

The Express landed in Penacony, though not without the Trailblazer accidentally getting absorbed into Acheron's dreamscape for a bit. We were greeted quietly by Misha the bellboy. Then we had some check-in troubles that were quickly resolved by the IPC's Aventurine, in which he gave us his room, and met Sunday of the Family and the slightly hoarse Robin, at which point that Himeko and Welt began to suspect that something was seriously afoot. They discuss these concerns with March and the Trailblazer, stating that they believe that a former Nameless sent them a distress call. Inside our room, Aventurine points out that he knows what the Traiblazer is (gay a Stellaron) and wants his new "friend" to repay him somehow, but he's stopped by Acheron.

After sinking into the dreamscape for the first time, we Yamcha'd onto the ground and got acclimated to the place thanks to the angel siblings, then met Firefly being cornered by the Bloodhound Family. Gallagher chased them off, and we decided to go on a fun personal tour/date with Firefly. In the middle of our tour, we met Sampo (actually Sparkle in disguise) who got us into weirder trouble, involving sending us into a dream where we had to save a bunch of trash cans from a giant Sampo. Sampo left us a warning about Firefly and Penacony's dreamscape before disappearing when we went to console Firefly about her lies to us. A Clockie meme came to us asking for help, after which we followed it to rescue Misha and Acheron who were being cornered by more, uh, I think they were more Bloodhound Family. We then followed Firefly to a beautiful outlook in an area under construction in the dream, where we took a cute selfie together and learned about Firefly's Entropy Loss Syndrome condition.

After attempting to exit the dream at the behest of the Nameless family, we meet Sampo (actually Sparkle in disguise) who un-Sampos herself and KO's the Trailblazer. The Trailblazer and Firefly find themselves in the Primal Dreamscape, where we hear strange and creepy voices about a hide-and-seek game with someone named Mikhail and someone who desperately needs help. However, we're then attacked by Something Unto Death and then rescued by Black Swan. After beating up Death together, she sends us back to the real world and meets up with the Nameless, stating she wants to ally with them in this crazy chess game between factions. It's also possible that whoever sent the distress call to the Astral Express opposes the Family and desires our involvement. Welt shares the location of the anomalies in the Dreamscape Reverie Hotel (information received from Silver Wolf) and we hop back in alongside Black Swan. While in the Dreamscape Reverie, we meet Acheron and travel alongside her. Black Swan realizes that Firefly is also in the same area and is in danger. We try to rescue her, but Something Unto Death appears and stabs her. (can't wait to go back to the express and tell dan heng that "my first girlfriend was taken by death" and for him to go "that's rough, buddy")

After like 0 time to mourn, Black Swan helps us retrace Firefly's steps, at which point we learn that she may have been working with someone and was betrayed by them. We find numerous charred monsters, and find Stellaron Hunter Sam, who battles the Trailblazer, Black Swan, and Acheron. While Acheron goes ham against Sam, Black Swan teleports us elsewhere, where we find Aventurine again. After briefly thinking that Black Swan betrayed us, Aventurine and Black Swan explain that they actually wanted to rescue Trailblazer from Acheron. Acheron is an Emanator (they're not sure of what, but I think it's Nihility) and she killed the boss of the Destruction-following Ever-Flame Mansion and stole their invitation. According to them, she can't be trusted. Aventurine then takes us to the "truth" in the dreamscape, which is Robin's dead body lying in a dreampool.

Several other cutscenes happen away from the Trailblazer's notice. First, Dr. Ratio who came with Aventurine asks what the hell his plan is, before disappearing. In another, Sparkle uses Space Racism and asks Aventurine how an executive of the IPC, Penacony's original owner and possible enemy, managed to get on the Family's good side long enough to get an invitation. In a third, Sparkle tries to ally with Sunday, who learned his sister died, but Sunday brushes her off and says he intends to kill whoever is responsible for killing his sister.

Some theories:

There might be more to Misha than meets the eye. First, the person visible in the "Mikhail" cutscenes wasn't Firefly, it looked fairly close to Misha. Second, I'm not quite sure why, but Misha might be invisible to almost everyone in the Dreamscape. Trailblazer was the only one who could see the memetic entity Clockie, and that Clockie was the only one who ever mentioned that Misha needed help. When you went to rescue him, the scene could have appeared as though Acheron was the one being surrounded by the gang if Misha weren't around. And besides that, neither Firefly nor Acheron could see Misha, though Acheron claimed that she could sense something next to her- while it could have been Clockie, there's a good chance it was Misha if he was a memetic entity. There's other evidence, like the fact that the Bloodhound Family's target was a "lad with silver hair" which roughly matches Misha's description (very roughly) and the hints that Misha's grandfather may have been an adventurer aboard the Astral Express.

Are Sam and Firefly the same person or alter egos in one body? There's a possibility. Firefly implies that she might be the Trailblazer's enemy on account of hunting down the Watchmaker's Legacy, but why would she say that? Could it be because she's part of the only true enemy faction to the Nameless that's on Penacony? Furthermore, in Sam's boss fight, he starts fighting the Trailblazer but tells them to tell other people in the real world about who defeated them. That lightly implies that people cannot die in the dream world if they're stabbed, for example. At the same time, the official report that explains what happened to Firefly and Robin was "Death has taken them", not "they were killed". And that's actually part of the mechanics of Something Unto Death- it can actually capture your party members, keeping them alive but unable to fight until you free them. Third, Firefly claims that she was stuck in a hospital room with a chronic illness, while Sam is a genetically engineered warrior. Genetic engineering and a robot suit sounds like a perfect cure for chronic illness in this high-tech universe. Fourth, Firefly's color scheme is white and black with some green accents and an orange-and-yellow cross-shaped tie on her chest. That perfectly describes Sam! Fifth, MHY is seriously allergic to giving us characters that don't jive with the Five Standard Humanoid Models, and their solution for robot characters like Svarog is to attach them to a humanoid model like Clara. Firefly has shown herself to be incapable in a fight in the main story so far- it's possible her true abilities lie with Sam. That could be true! Or I could be totally wrong. Possibly sixth, the group chat I'm in has had three separate arguments about mistranslations, and one of them said that Gallagher actually said the Bloodhound family was searching for a "silver man", not a "man with silver hair". If Sam is Firefly, he could have reverted to his Firefly form to evade capture.

Aventurine is lying about something. I find it a little weird how the Trailblazer was grilled so hard over not having RSVP'd by name, but according to Aventurine, Acheron got in just by giving the front desk a stolen music box. That wouldn't be possible if the security procedures were so tight that the Trailblazer couldn't enter even with all three of the other Nameless guests vouching for them. One of those has to be a setup. Furthermore, even though she's one of the galaxy's most powerful thief clowns, how did Sparkle get in if security was really that tight? Basically, there's something wrong with that statement. Either Acheron really did get in with just a music box, meaning that the front desk troubles were a setup (to put the Trailblazer in Aventurine's debt?) or something is wrong with Aventurine's story about how Acheron obtained her invitation. It's also important that the IPC has motivations to mess with Penacony's affairs, given that Penacony itself is basically a colony that broke free of the IPC's control.

What's up with the secret ending? There is so much weird stuff with the secret ending. First, it's implied that no one is who they say they are. Question marks exist for every single Penacony character mentioned except for Sparkle. We know from the rules of the Dreamscape that it is, in fact, possible to disguise yourself as someone else or impersonate someone within the dream. The logistics of doing so are unknown, but based on the "don't enter the Dreampool naked" clause (yes i'm actually making it relevant here) it probably just involves disguising yourself physically as the target. Second, the IPC is mentioned to be plotting something, and is the ill-intentioned party here. Third, "special thanks" go to Robin and Sunday- they aren't "actors" like the others- are they sponsors, hosts, supporters? And Robin is mentioned too- since Acheron mentioned that even dead people can manifest in the dream, does Robin only stay alive as a living memory? Finally, after all is said and done, it's implied that the Astral Express crew never leaves Penacony, and stays in the dream forever. That means that learning the truth (that Robin has been taken by Death- I'm not sure if she's actually dead) is the only way we can keep on going. By the contrarian principle, we'll only uncover the truth if we aid the IPC- which will be kinda shitty of us. Either way, I only foresee future political tangles.

Robin and Firefly aren't dead. I promise this isn't copium. A good part of my evidence is that "death has taken them" was used to describe both of the ways they died, that Something Unto Death incapacitates your party members but never outright kills them, and the fact that Sam hints that dying in the dream world won't necessarily kill you in the real world. There's also a line (was it from Sunday or Black Swan?) that stated that a person's soul can be snuffed out in the dream world to kill a person in real life. What role this will play in the future, I'm not sure of. But I do have some theories. First, Something Unto Death is just hunting indiscriminately, and happened to attack both Robin and Firefly. That would be boring, though. Second, Something Unto Death is akin to an attack dog hunting specific targets at the whims of a mastermind. That would be slightly less boring, and leave the question of who the mastermind is up in the air. I have no answer to that one, I'm afraid. But if it's a good illusion of death, it could be used to push forward an agenda.

Who is the real mastermind? It could be anyone! AAAAGH! Metatextually, I actually suspect The Family- Robin and Sunday working together. I mean, when's the last time angels lost a battle against mere mortals, especially when they're really good at warping narratives in this instance? I've never seen a piece of media where the characters symbolized with angels weren't very good at staying on top of every situation. There aren't even any demons around like in Bayonetta. Otherwise, it could be the obvious choice of the IPC (*Benoit Blanc voice* "The IPC are not idiots." /ffw/ "The IPC are idiots!"), maybe Acheron who is named after one of the rivers of death, literally maybe an Emanator of death. Maybe it's Black Swan but I kind of doubt it. Maybe it's Sparkle looking for a spot of fun. It's not Misha. Misha is a precious bean. Although that rule kind of bit me in the ass the last time I picked up a Danganronpalike. It's not Gallagher either. They never give masterminds facial hair. Could it be Firefly herself? That would be so funny and so tragic that I kind of hope it is now. My theory is, it's either the IPC itself, Sunday and Robin working together to deceive everyone, or the Watchmaker acting through Misha.

My fucked-up-angel enjoying self is being well-fed. I cannot wait to watch Sunday cook.

*sigh* Oh right, Robin's dead body!

??? So that vision of Robin is supposedly just a memory. She's not actually lying dead in that dreampool. But she is dead, supposedly- has been for a long time. And Aventurine believes someone killed her because only someone incredibly powerful could have broken past the Family's security systems. (I'm not sure if that's the case, as I stated before, because my number one suspect is someone in the Family!)

I was joking before the splash art for Harmony Trailblazer was leaked that they'd better not have all of the Penacony characters fighting together with a weapon like they had for the Preservation Trailblazer splash art. Because these bitches weren't fighting together, they were at each others' throats the entire time.

I mean I'm not sure if I should trust Black Swan (the memokeepers keep antagonizing my found family sister!!!) but she is the most trustworthy person here. If she trusts Aventurine I trust him a little bit more.

... what did I just FUCKING tell you. What the fuck else could Aventurine be here for. That's right, he wants to take back this freed prison for the IPC. And he'd better not give us any SHIT about- oh, yup, he's like "it's because of the murder" bitch you work for space amazon, shut your mouth, you'd be obsessed over target's forensic department and the clever way they manage to prosecute shoplifters

Well, I do agree with trying to figure out who killed Robin and my girlfriend. Well, "killed". They're putting many quotations around "Death". Like I said in my theory section I think Robin isn't dead.

He thinks (or says he thinks) Acheron is the real enemy here, which I don't fully agree with at this point. Acheron and Sam now have a bit of an alliance going.

Once again, everyone is suspicious, and March, thank you for bringing up the possibility that Robin isn't dead. Although if Taylor Swift died the world would feel the same. That she can't be dead, how can she be dead?

And in the hidden ending, even Gallagher was given question marks. If he is ACTUALLY the traitor to the Family, I am PISSED at myself for not seeing this coming because "this is a gacha game and normal rules don't apply".

so, to summarize, in a past adventure, it's likely that mikhail, an old trailblazer, helped free penacony and then settled here. gallagher was one of his "children", whatever that means (probably in a more adoptive sense, like how families work here). the oak family (the one sunday leads) set them up for something. the bloodhound family left. that's how you get a bloodhound family that's still loyal to the watchmaker, and an oak family (and every other family) that hates him. Someone has inherited the watchmaker's title (likely Misha)

Post-Liveblog Thoughts

someone wanna explain to me what the fuck just happened

no for real what the fuck just happened.

uhhhhhh i'll be back in a bit

First, it has been a hilarious trend with me that the character whose design I love for no reason, whose gender I need for no reason, who I find really, really cool for absolutely no reason, turns out to be a serial killer. It has happened in almost every game I've played with a serial killer. Even the ones that don't follow the Crack Prediction Rule. Like, note to friends reading this- if i ever like a character with brown hair or think they're cool or lowkey Would, they're probably a serial killer. Or a serial kidnapper. Or they love torturing people. Or something equally fucked up. Literally at this point if I say I like a character but never elaborate, they've killed several people. Oh my god why does this keep happening.

If Sunday's dead, wow I did not expect that. Sunday implied that "Gallagher" wasn't real- he was actually someone or something else using a collection of traits as a disguise. So, what is he? Is he a meme? Is he the Watchmaker? Or is he a different person entirely? If Gallagher's dead, there's something else and someone else at work that was just eliminating him for the sake of covering up evidence. I still think there's some kind of actual thinking, feeling mastermind at work and it's not just some monster or bad phenomenon. As for what the next arc is going to be, we know that the Express crew hasn't found who the killer is yet. That's probably the next step once the Trailblazer returns to reality- especially since now, we as the player are very, very close to chasing down the killer ourselves.

I joked before that "it would be really funny if Sunday unleashed these threats against whoever killed his sister and then did absolutely nothing" and that joke was actually half right- he never succeeded in cathartically annihilating his sister's killer. Though he did do that incredibly fucked up stuff to Aventurine (Zone of Truthed him and also literally put a time limit on his life while torturing him with visions of his past and future), so I'm still satisfied.

Also, Firefly is not dead! Firefly, who got gutted by Death, is not dead! That opens up the possibility that Robin and whoever else just got gutted is also not dead!

I'd love to know what happened to Aventurine. It seems to me that he decided to give up on his ambitions after risking it all to basically destroy any semblance that the people of Penacony had that death was impossible within the Dreamscape. So, is HE dead now? Because it looks to me like Acheron never intended to kill him in the first place, and if he is dead, he made that choice himself.

Sparkle is Sparkle.

No Misha this patch, even though he's definitely relevant to the story. He's probably return for 2.2, when we try to actually figure out what the Watchmaker's Legacy is while tracking down the killer. Since he's very clearly related to the Watchmaker.

We'll be getting Boothill next patch. I need to see how this cowboy's introduced. Please let it be as funny as Trailblazer getting Yamcha'd. And maybe Black Swan will be working with him. Also, it turns out that Constance, Dubra, Akash, and Katarina are still relevant in part. There's a possibility we might see them in future worlds.
