they literally went "fuck the non-american part of the audience and also even if you're american fuck you if you're poor"
like, yes, of course artists deserve to be paid for their art! that's not the point here!
the point is that this just looks like a risky and not properly thought through business decision because what percentage of the fan base is left after cutting these factors from the demographic? and how many of those left are even willing to spend money on a handful of new videos per month? do they really think they are that competitive? do they even know their audience? have they done any market research whatsoever?
apparently they blindly assumed their entire american audience (how many are those? in numbers?) would sign up for this and keep carrying them forever, as if production costs would not continue to rise, inevitably leading to rising prices eventually (netflix started out as a $5 subscription site as well).
it just seems like a too hard cut to drop this concept (not to mention the alienating of the fans) instead of slowly moving towards that direction by for example offering different tiers (access to x amount of shows for $1, full access for $5, bonus content like that on patreon for $6, as well as free access with ads and sponsors). also, apparently there isn't even an app? like seriously what did they expect

Signal boost to UK people: you can send a prewritten email to your local MP about the horrors occurring in Gaza and to the people of Palestine. This one is specifically about the recent invasion of Rafah on the 8th of May and its effect on the displaced civilians living in 'safe' zones, which are not safe as civilians are being killed

the boss (who I’ve been in conflict with) from my former job sent me a condolence card and one of their employees (who I started off on the wrong foot with and also haven’t liked at all since April) also sent me a card. which is very nice on both accounts. Yet my main thought is still..what about museum paul 🤷‍♀️🫠

they back pedalled on their back pedal. the planned ban on conversion therapy will once again include the protection of trans people
now the shit just needs to avoid loopholes for 'religious conversion therapy' to use and stop being a draft.

I've found out that I'm mainly allergic to two things in local political groups: 1. Extremely black and white thinking about people or ideas, 2. Lack of emphasis and respect for the soft skills that are the backbone of activism.
Like, please don't read this and think I'm some kind of seasoned activist, quite the opposite. I barely do anything compared with many, and as far as knowledge and life experience goes, I barely know anything at all. But I know this stuff freaks me out and that's a good thing, because it means I won't waste energy on spaces that drain me.

It has been hard for me to talk about how what is going on with Israel and Palestine is affecting me personally, but I grew up in Gaza and most of my family still lives there. My father did not survive the bombings last week and I have not been able to contact my younger sister in days. I am try to being understanding that most people do not have personal connections to what is happening and therefore are justifying their silence, but is heartbreaking to see this misinformation being spread. What’s happening there is a genocide, not a war. It is not antisemitic to support Palestine, it’s not even antiemetic to criticise Israel. There is no grey area or neutrality regarding this, and it is so easy to find resources that will educate you on the subject. It is my people and my home being destroyed so I will never be silent about this, but I please urge everyone to get informed and start speaking up and finding ways they can help.
decolonizepalestine has tons of information on Palestine’s history/propaganda that has been spread throughout the years
UK citizens can email their MP asking for a ceasefire
US citizens can call/email their local government officials asking for a ceasefire
Jewish Voice for Peace also has many resources for ways for US citizens to get involved, including protests
Donate to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund
Donate to Medical Aid for Palestine
Donate to help get food and hygiene kits to Gaza

Imagine cutting humanitarian aid to any country around the world without batting an eyelash. People at their most vulnerable -who are being massively ethnically cleansed and displaced -who are being permanently disabled because of destructive bombings and with whom will probably have little to no resources to help them manage these disabilities their entire lives, who have been and are at the brink of starvation and death... this is what these western/European countries are doing instead of the bare minimum which is a ceasefire.
Albeit it's not a surprise to me (or most of us) since settler-colonial and imperial countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK have notorious histories of genocides against Indigenous people and have been (and currently are) perpetrators of imperial violence.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency provides basic assistance for people -and to deny that life-saving help to Palestinian people (because we know what this is about) is aligning with IOF terrorism -and it undeniably makes these governments all equally complicit.
My MP's office is closed on weekends but I'll be calling and emailing her, and then emailing genocidal apologist Trudeau. Call and/or email your representatives. This is beyond heinous. I truly don't think these governments could sink any lower -be any more evil, and then they do and it's beyond disgraceful.
